Title: Ok Glamour is installed. Anyone have questions?
Post by: lindaetterlee on 2006 August 27, 04:15:59
Ok I've got Glamour installed. Anyone have any questions?

It installs the same way as famliy fun making a new icon and its own directory.

I have a question. Did you bootleg it? My little brother tells me it comes out on the 31st, and he would have it by now if it was out.

Nope no bootleg.

A few people already have it. It happens. It's only a few days before the release, and that means many stores already have it, just not on the shelves. Not necessarily anything illegal involved.

Here's my question. Is there ANY hair at all?

It surprises me that it's already on BitTorrent already, I half-expected it would take them till the next day after the release date (August 30?) to get the torrent distributed.

Anyway, the question that I'm wondering about the thing is if there are any new features that would be in that Pets expansion such as Rotatable Floor Tiles or Painting from a Picture File.

Nope no bootleg.

Ok, thanks.

Was it worth the money?

The floors were the first thing i tried. Didn't get a result but not sure if you are supose to use a cheat code or it works as normal.

No not worth the money in my opinion but very little is lol.  I didn't notice any hair give me a sec and i'll pull up body shop again and see.

Yeah Usenext had it this morning. GRRR kindof wish i would have known before paying LOL

OHHH yes there is a wedding hair. One with a long vail.

Edit: it seems to only be available for YA's and Adults.
Edit 2: Pictures of new hair

Oh... really?

*drums fingers on desk*

Well, I'm sure I don't care if such a thing was up on BitTorrent... already, did you say?

Quote

I can see why you didn't notice it. Your eyes must have passed right over it. It certainly isn't anything you'd want to stop to take a better look at. The veils at Pronup Sims blow that dinky thing out of the water.

Making note to self: Don't buy the Glamour Pack.  The thought had crossed my mind, but based on what's already been said here the thought instantly died.  I'll go find stuff to download on my favorite sites instead.

What about the clothes and furnature?  They looked half way decent in the preview pics.

Title: Re: Ok Glamour is installed. Anyone have questions?
Post by: jrd on 2006 August 27, 13:32:59
Game version is up to 1.5.0.121

Not that many clothes this time around, but some nice new furniture. And as with FFS two houses in the lot catalog to showcase the new things.

No engine changes found thus far, it's still OFB internally.

What new radio station tunes do we get?

Edit:  Oh, wait.  Better question.  Run into anything that's gonna need a patch to fix yet?   ;D

Does that mean we still use the OFB disc to play the game?

I'd imagine you'd have to use the Glamour Pack CD to run the game after installing it.

Title: Re: Ok Glamour is installed. Anyone have questions?
Post by: jrd on 2006 August 27, 14:59:51
You need the Glamour CD of course.
NOCD patches are out now, I'm still looking for a mini-image.

This time it seems they left the bugs at home.

Installing it caused a neighbourhood reset again (all Sims were standing—that's why I always save at 7AM), and I had to regenerate twojeffian CR tokens.

Title: Re: Ok Glamour is installed. Anyone have questions?
Post by: lindaetterlee on 2006 August 27, 15:12:19
Haven't found iany bugs. Yes you need Glamour CD. But the new nocd works amazing and helps with load times.

Also it seems this pack in general speeded up load times.

I have 1gb of CC and before load time took 1.33 minutes.

Now alittle under a minute.

does the glamour pack have any new cars? oh and what store did you buy it in that they gave it to you early?

Post by: jrd on 2006 August 27, 15:18:19

NOCD patches are out now, I'm still looking for a mini-image.

What do you mean about the mini-image?

A no-cd patch is one that strips the copy protection from the exe. This usually leads to problems later on (most no-cd patches for TS2 disable parts of build mode for example, or disable the uni grade bar).

A mini-image is a small virtual CD-ROM which fools the game into thinking the original is in a drive. It is my preferred method for all my games.

proudbrunette: No new cars, just some clothes and furniture.

Okay, I did not know this.  Would someone kindly point out these houses to me?  I've never really used the FFS stuffeth but it'd be nice to see them all in one lot.
Thank you.

Daemon Tools (http://www.daemon-tools.cc/dtcc/download.php?mode=ViewCategory&catid=5) is a free program that allows you to mount Virtual DVDs/CDs such as .iso files.

At least there isn't a major bug in this one, but I don't like that they shoved a DRM on it again.

I've discovered a problem with a hack already though.  I entered a lot with a lady who was 73 hours pregnant.  I left the couple having just woohooed and ready to get up out of bed, eat and she could have the baby.  When I entered the lot after installing glamour, she stood up from the bed and popped her 3rd trimester belly.  Insim still shows her at 73 hours pregnant.  I tried to use the lot debugger to randomize their baby and the game crashed.  I'm gonna try again in a bit.

C

ETA:  Never mind.  I can't go back to the neighborhood view from a house no matter what.  The game freezes and quits responding.  I wonder if it's related to my nocd crack.

Try looking in the lot bin.

Doesn't really help if you have a lot of custom houses in there -- since Maxis doesn't distinguish the included houses from ones you add, it's almost impossible to tell what FFS added to the bin.  I know I wasn't aware that FFS added two houses...

No, just that if they release it before the actual release date, the company will refuse to deal with them any longer. It is a HUGE no-no. Though Wal-Mart gets away with all sorts of crap because a) they have the excuse of stupid employees and b) they're fucking huge.

Though this is so far before the release date that it must be a bootleg or something, frankly. It's not in stores yet, anywhere, back room or otherwise, at least in the U.S.

Title: Re: Ok Glamour is installed. Anyone have questions?
Post by: SaraMK on 2006 August 28, 01:01:43
I wasn't talking about the general illegality of it, just that the OP did not necessarily do anything illegal. Stores screw up or do something they aren't supposed to, but that is not the buyer's fault. Amazon sent me Nightlife nearly a week before the release. I chose not to say anything because I wasn't sure if I could get in trouble, which of course in retrospect seems silly since it certainly wasn't my fault. If I had said something, I'm sure I would have been accused of stealing it.

On the other hand, I have absolutely nothing against BitTorrent, so I wouldn't care at all if the OP did that. I was just pointing out that theft isn't the only reason for someone to have it earlier than the release.

I would just like to vent my extreme disapointment and disgust.
And i haven't even got my copy yet.

Those photos of the red neighbourhood and the screwy clothes have actually shocked me.  Everyday people create their own custom meshes, their own cars, objects and all sorts of things for the sims.  Theres a flintstones car, and a horse and carriage that works fine.  Max whipped up a Trogdor tree quicker than it takes my comp to boot up.  There are some truely amazing clothes and meshes out there.

And yet Maxis seem incapable of making their own stuff and putting it on a cd with no problems.  How the hell can a stuff pack be so hard to make?  Why are neighbourhood screens crashing?  I mean are there new animations?  No?  Then its just furniture and clothes.  On a cd.  ITS NOT ROCKET SCIENCE!

Please, someone.  Explain to me how a stuff pack can cause problems, because I sure as hell don't understand.

It's really disappointing.  The only thing I liked was the new pajamas for adult females (I didn't even look at any other age group, or males).  They're quite baggy (good mesh, though I didn't look at it with the scrutiny that nectere did) and the textures are nice.

Gamestop, Manager is best friend/ old beau, Louisiana (USA). Graphicly the same mesh issues your pics showed. I was having the prob right after installing that leaving a house or closing game, etc. would result in a we have encountered problems type crash. After 3rd install this seems to have stoped.

Also the Loft house that is included sucks. It looks awful and well is just awful lol.

Mini-CDs or CDs tend to work better than NoCDs but they take more space than a crack.  You'll probably also need something like CureROM with Daemon Tools to get past the Anti-Blacklisting procedures of Safedisk for the CD.  I needed this to play OFB and FFS but some people have used virtual CDs without the additional software.

EA adding the DRM to these stuff packs doesn't make them any harder to pirate, but makes them a lot less desirable because they say "FFS" or "GLS" for 20 CC items.  This and the fact it causes graphics problems just ends up screwing the consumer.  I was hoping that they would include Pets' engine upgrades with this, but they probably can't afford to lose the 5% of the consumers that hate pets but will buy it anyway for the upgrades.

/me smacks Pescado.

The meshes and textures look well done (depending on how you rate maxis stuff), and the stuff is hidden like the Family Fun trees and base game paintings.

All the games have had hidden stuff you can find in SimPE, if you know where to look.

Family Fun stuff had a lot of hidden stuff too.

This stuff pack sucks ass.

Just to clarify.

Software and video games tend to have a "soft" release date. Due to the whole 'not shipping them until the date we advertised for' that some companies do to avoid things getting pirated. Meaning they give a date, but it usually has a give or take thing applied to it. It's kinda one of those things that unless they give other instructions for, can be put on the shelf the next time they have a "new release" day.

Movies have a "hard" release date. They send you movies early so that employees can have a chance to snatch them up and tell customers that want to know "is it any good?" if it is good or not. Because they send them earlier than intended, they are VERY ADAMANT about them being out at the proper time. Again the whole pirating thing. Only for some reason, video games, they're not as strict on it.

Software and video games tend to have a "soft" release date.

I remember back in my days of Everquest when some Walmarts put the 'Planes of Power' expansion on the shelves a day early. People from my guild were rushing out to their local Walmarts to see if they could get the expansion early. It was like the lottery if you could get it before anyone else.

*nods* I used to work for Blockbuster and I made a habit of reporting the Walmart next to us everytime they did it.

I know it doesn't STOP them, but if they're gonna break the rules, they can pay the fines.

Even had a customer let me copy his receipt showing that he purchased something three days before the release date and sent that.

Then again, I was mean when I worked at Blockbuster. Pescado would've been proud.

Then I started working at a bank and all the estrogen made me stupid.

The BBS thread had no graphical glitches in their meshes. And even if they were farther away, they were still from the same angle, so the pikes in the back of some, or the squiggly waist would've been visible.

I'd be willing to bet that in a few days or so Numenor will have the hidden objects available at MTS2. He's done it with the hidden stuff from previous packs.

They have upped the requirements for this pack, I had an ATI X200 and they have went up to x300 now so that is likely my issue with weirdness, which sucks because it wasnt an issue prior to this even tho it wasnt listed in OFB supported graphics cards, but now it is. I will be throwing my newish graphics card in tonight that I had bought for the other box (but it needed too much power) which is a GeForce 6600 - it SHOULD fix all the issues I have been having...we will see.

Supported video cards for Glamour:

ATI Radeon(TM) series (8500 or better)
    8500, All-In-Wonder 8500
    9000, 9200, 9500, 9600, 9700, 9800
    X300, X600, x700, X800, x850

  NVIDIA(R) Quadro(TM) series
    Quadro, Quadro2, Quadro4

NVIDIA GeForce series (GeForce2 GTS and better)
    GeForce 2, 2 GTS
    GeForce 3, 3 Ti
    GeForce 4, 4 Ti, 4200, 4600, 4800, MX 420, 440, 460
    GeForce FX 5200, 5500, 5600, 5700, 5800, 5900, 5950
    GeForce PCX 5300, 5900
    GeForce 6200, 6600, 6800

Intel(R) Extreme Graphics (see note below)
    82865, 82915 and above

NOTE: If you have a non-T&L capable video card, such as Intel Extreme Graphics, then you need at least a 2.4 GHz processor.

Supported video cards for OFB:

ATI Radeon(TM) series (8500 or better)
    8500, All-In-Wonder 8500
    9000, 9200, 9500, 9600, 9700, 9800
    X300, X600, x700, X800, x850

  NVIDIA(R) Quadro(TM) series
    Quadro, Quadro2, Quadro4

It appears these are lists of "legacy" boards that will run the game, because clearly the current ATI and nVidia product lines will run it—the X1000 series and GeForce 7000 series, respectively. One might expect the bottom-end budget models in each line might have difficulties, though.   :-\

I wonder...

Do they expect people to pre-order 3 copies of the damn buggy Stuff Pack, or do they pretty much expect that everyone will steal whatever items they couldn't get legally? Way to encourage piracy, Maxis. They're practically begging us to do it.

It's like showing an addict three different drugs, telling them they can only have one, and then locking them in a closet with all three laid out on a shelf. You KNOW what's going to happen. You can't pitch a tantrum about it afterwards.

This is part of why piracy is rampant. Paying for stuff doesn't get you good results! Either the game is so buggy that it isn't worth the money, or the company has let you down so often that you feel you have to "check" the item before you actually pay for it, or, like in this case, paying for it will leave you lacking something. Having items out there that match the items in the stuff pack, and then telling you you can't have two of those items, is just inviting people to get those items regardless of legality.

I havent seen any problems with graphics, lagginess, etc.  I have an ATI radeon x1300 256mb video, 4x AGP and 512mb ram, in case anyone is interested..

I agree, this stuff pack sucks ass.  There's barely anything new in this pack.  Mostly just decorative items and those really bad dining and bedroom sets.  The new walls and floors are okay.  Simply put, just browse a few download sites for an hour and you'll find way more stuff and of better quality.  I suggest waiting until its in the bargain bin or buying it used.  Personally, I dont think stuff packs are worth more than $5 or $10.  I bought this game with 3 friends, so we paid $5 each since we knew this pack wouldnt be worth $20 >.>

I'm using a nocd crack and havent had any problems like build mode being disabled thus far.

The first GLS nocd by Razor caused crashes on loading a neighbourhood (and thus on going anywhere on a date or outing). The second one fixes this problem.
The "broken" one has a Last Modified date of 26-08-2006, the working one (named "working" on megagames) has one of 27-08-2006.

I ran a diff on objects.package from GLS compared to FFSp2 and asides from the new objects there are no relevant changes. It is therefore still running OFB version code and all mods which are compatible with OFB/FFSp2 should be compatible with GLS.

And just FYI: I have no mesh issues like described above. It must be vidcard related.

I took it more as them begging people to pre-order three copies and then return two of them as soon as they got the code.  That pumps up pre-orders and the responsibility for the returns can be pushed off on somebody else.  Typical large-company think.  Anyway, the three codes are all the same, they're still using the same code from the Nightlife and OFB bonuses.

I can't say I'm impressed with it.

As usual, Maxis textures leave a lot to be desired. So I'm evaluating this package more in terms of new meshes.

Mainly the content consist of Evening wear.  There is no new content for elders, or children.  There are a couple of semi-nice dresses for women.  However considering the amount of better content for women avalaible for download, this package hardly seems worth it.  However there are a fair amount of new outfits for men.  Since that's more difficult to find for download, this is more interesting.  The textures are simply awful however.

The new furniture is simply awful.  Unless someone makes a miracle with new textures, I simply won't be using it.

There were a couple nice new wall paint though, which I thought were worth keeping.

All in all, this package is inferior to even the free content offered by a lot good sites.  It's certainly not worth $20.00. The only reason it might be worth it, are for the meshes.  Good thing I didn't pay for it :)

This would be why we don't take computer game returns except under very drastic circumstances. In any case, new game returns do always go back to the game company. They have to pay either way; they aren't going to try to shove it off on anyone else because there's no one else to shove it off on.

I definitely couldn't have said that better myself, I totally agree with this!! Silly Maxis!!

Yeah, I'm weak, I'll be getting this pack, but because it caters to things I want. Fancy stuff.

Now the Family Pack...probably never. Children don't last long enough in the game to justify decorating their rooms like that for 5 days. Easier to decorate them nice and generic like for their teenage years.

rofl. Good one!

Look at the tie on at outfit though.  It looks so painted on.  I've seen better jobs done by beginners.

I'll still debating wether or not to keep it.  I'm not happy that it changes your data files so that you can't go back to a previous version of the game.

It does, but all the textures in that shot suck.  I'm thinking the graphics aren't set to max, that's all.

Still thinking if I'm going to get this one.  And I'm still leaning toward my original thought which is: wait till the price goes down.  A lot.

What about height! Why are all sims of a gender and age group the same height! I'm taller than most of the guys I work with, not to mention the ladies. (And that's without wearing my stilletos!) SimElfPuddle should be able to tower over her neighbors, too!

Yeah, I know what you're saying with height.  It's never really bothered me--but how hard would it have been to have height be a genetic quality passed down through generations? Kind of a big detail Maxis left out (no doubt, though, a "feature").

Appparently many of us (incl me) like our simmies to look like barbies becausse I always hate how loose the stupid Maxis female clothes look.
But I can't wait to hear more about the new Glam male clothes. Look pretty cool (especially the ones with a tie and a sweater?)

By the way, not a lot of folks actually recolor FFS meshes  (clothes) on a regular basis, so I doubt Glam pack will change the situation.

From what I've seen of the pack, a half an hour of downloading would get be better stuff. I already have so much Simstuff on my computer, I don't really need more. Except for male hair and clothes, and more doors and windows. I really wish some artist or other would start concentrating on making hair as seen on male models in magazines. As for clothing, I'm just about desperate enough for new male clothes to crank up Bodyshop myself again :P.

That tux looks pretty cool. I'm sure the tie looks better with a better graphics card, it's probably bumpmapped- a lot of maxis stuff looks fuzzy until you see it on a better computer/high detail, and then it's like, wow! Why did I need to download all this stuff again? Like I didn't even realize all those generic formal dresses actually had a really subtle pattern until I saw it on a fancy computer, and it no longer looked like just a flat, solid color. If your graphics aren't so hot, a lot of the user made stuff looks better because they design the textures for you to see them, and so they look better than the maxis stuff at a lower resolution.

I mean it would be crazy to have them show up at a party barefoot, but, I dunno, a wedding on the beach maybe? It would fit with a theme I have going in my game.

I am probably dyscalculic, but as I am aware of it I take special care to go over my numbers again before setting them down somewhere. The only mistakes I thus make are out of lazyness and haste.
If you know you are dyslexic you should take special care to check your spelling, and not type like a moron and then claim you can't do anything about it. ;)

Word blindness .... as in blind to misspelling even when presented with the correct way to spell something. This IS my taking a great effort to be 'presentable' and not to be shat on my small minded, petty individuals.

Title: Re: Ok Glamour is installed. Anyone have questions?
Post by: jrd on 2006 August 31, 11:29:45
You can't fool me into believing that word blindness (simplified: a problem in realizing which letter goes where) has anything to do with improper placing of apostrophes. In English there is no plural form which takes an apostrophe, the apostrophe is only used to mark missing letters (as in we're, where the apostrophe masks the 'a' from are; or don't where the apostrophe masks the 'o' from not) and the possessive.

I can except dyslexia as an excuse for misspelling 'by' as 'my' but not for thing's: it doesn't even have the same word shape as things so the dyslexia excuse doesn't fly there.

Title: Re: Ok Glamour is installed. Anyone have questions?
Post by: Elven Ranger on 2006 August 31, 11:37:14
Now you are oversimplifying things. It is not a case of spelling 'by' as 'my', but more a case of is 'be' spelt like that or 'bee' or even 'bea', etc, this does . Or is this letter an 'a' or an 'e', and does it go before or after this letter, and is it even supposed to be there at all. This is how it is for each and every letter of each and ever word written,  including punctuation, and is nothing to do with 'laziness' or making 'excuses'  ::)

I don't have FFStuff and I won't have GLStuff either. Both are rip-offs, and I have better uses for my money. You know, luxuries such as gasoline for my car, food for my kids, etc. I don't play a lot of instances where my pixel people use the formal stuff that I already have. Aside from that I'm very happy with my men's clothing from http://hnote.net/  and there are a few others who are just as good, but I can't remember right now where they are.

I think it's great clothing, I have almost all of his men's wear.

That they are, some are also in the athletic wear section. But it's not that many, and I can live with that. That reminds me that I actually wanted to look into that with SimPe. HNote is not the worst offender, there are a few creators who seem to make their outfits available across the board as a matter of course. Because I'm picky in what clothes I download, those outfits are rather nice and I would like to keep them, but I want them in their proper section only.

I have to dig around and find the coding for clothing. I know I've written it down...somewhere. Ah well, there's always MTS2. They are bound to have a tutorial for that, because they seem to have tutorials for just about everything. Which is entirely a good thing.

Jordi and Elven Ranger: I'm dyslexic too. It is a pain when you're trying to write quickly. But as I know I don't see things the way they were meant to be seen, I tend to type things first into Word or some other program with spell check, check for mistakes, then paste into forums such as this. If that isn't possible, I go slowly and do my best to proofread. If (when) I still make mistakes, I take the mocking as it was intended: to improve my writing so I don't look like an idiot. But that's because I care about my writing. Others may do as they will, of course, and when they look really stupid, I'll help make it better. :D

Very easy to fix in SimPE -- I believe there's instructions on how to properly categorize clothes over in Peasantry.  No new clothing goes into my game without being categorized right anymore.

I actually like Maxis textures, as a rule, and I've been having a hard time finding dressy clothes that don't turn all of my female sims into a freakshow-

I'm finding it's because very few meshers go thru the trouble of making sure that their meshes look good on the "unfit" female sims as well as "fit" ones.  They must somehow forget that Maxis included more than one bodytype into the game and when sims are in another state, suddenly their once gorgeous outfits turn hideously ugly with jagged, disappearing, invisable, wonky parts of the mesh as they morph into the sims body.

I test new meshes in my game before putting them into actual play now (learned the hard way) and these days promptly point, laugh and remove said meshes and add them to a list of who not to download from again.

I like variety in my game, fit and unfit (they are by no means fat, I don't care what the game says, I'm in the gimme more body types camp too!) and won't be bothered with those outfits or creators that don't work for all the Maxis body types.

As for the "stuff packs" if they were just like downloaded items and that was it, I might have gotten it if it were less than $10.  Talking legal copies here, the fact that it's twice that price for more hassle, urm no thanks.  I'll pass.  For it to be labeled "Glamour" and not to have more hairstyles is a bit misleading, I thought for sure they'd be including plenty of them.  Who can be glamorous without a new hairstyle to go with it?

I'll hold out still for the 80's stuff pack.  **dreams** Tight jeans or jeans that were cuffed at the bottom just so...and spandex--who lived thru the 80's without spandex!? Truly baggy tshirts and striped sweaters, off the shoulder sweatshirts with tanktops underneath, multicolored legwarmers and honest to goodness tennis shoes with socks that go over the jeans, or don't forget a good pair of leather "boat shoes" with the curls on the end! Friendship bracelets and pins for your shoes and long dangly earrings and big hoop earrings, a good tshirt mesh for the guys and denim jackets with pins and airbrushing on them for everyone.  Correctly spiked hair, long poofy bangs that took gallons of hairspray to get just right and curly hair to go with them.  And good 80's type sim music to match.  **sigh**

Where was I? Oh yes...meshes need to fit all Maxis body types!

:) :) :)

In a perfect world Sim object creators would also realize that TS2 is multilingual, and either update all language strings, or delete them all except US English.
Just about every second object I download has the wrong text in game because they only change US Englsh, not UK English.

I played the Game in german for a long time because I was trying to improve my language skills, but eventually gave up. All of the cloned objects in the game would just show the description of the original, which was especially problematic for objects that were hacked because I didn't know which ones they were of all the custom content. No info on wallpapers or anything either. I don't understand why it has to be so hard, it doesn't even have to be in the same language- just use the english description in the right place!

If you can't, for whatever reason, fix it on your own, and you care what your writing looks like, then you will find a way to get it right. If you don't care, then don't.

Be prepared, here and elsewhere, to have people notice when you're wrong. Some will poke, some will ignore, but the mistakes will be noticed. If you don't like it, then tough shit. Dyslexia is not an excuse to get things wrong and be forgiven: it's a challenge to work hard at getting it right.

I know, sorry I snapped at you ElfPuddle :) Just faced the supermarket, a trafic jam & my drunken neighbour who punched me 2 days ago for putting rubbish out on my own garden for the bin-men! Hope you can forgive me?
If you have any advice about how to 'see' what is correct, then by all mean's share it with me, because Im damned if I can
(Even my childhood Dr told me to live with it, Dyslexia is just a pathetic excuse for the retarded).

 :D You're forgiven.
I wish I had a good suggestion. I tell my kids to constantly spell check and use a dictionary. That, and studying grammar (for apostrophes) are my normal suggestions....my best idea is to put a disclaimer in your siggie and say thanks when people correct you (and then edit the error). I tell my students off the bat that I'm dyslexic and they should feel free to correct me. When they find grievous errors, we laugh together and I fix it. ;D And then they wonder how such an idiot became their English Teacher. Hard work!  ;D

It also helps that my dyslexia is mild. If I go slowly, I can usually get it right.

Elven Ranger, 1) Nice siggie!!! ;D   2) Trying hard makes it worse sometimes...relax!

Jelenedra, I'm glad it's the dyslexia. The alternative (my being stupid so I understand stupid) just didn't sit well.

Definately not the case. Also, the being an English Teacher helps, it keeps you fluent in 'teenager' which is a branch form of 'stupid.' =p

not to be mean or anything, but before you go making fun of someone else, perhaps you should check your own work first.  i.e. "accept" and "except" are not the same thing. ;D

I can except dyslexia as an excuse for misspelling 'by' as 'my' but not for thing's: it doesn't even have the same word shape as things so the dyslexia excuse doesn't fly there.

Oops. Well, English is not my first or even second language :p

And I have the habit of continually restructuring my sentences, so  errors like this slip in. (Originally had something there where 'except' made sense.)

as i said, i wasn't trying to be mean. i am a newbie and am still trying to figure things out.  i tried to quote someone on another thread here and messed it up terribly and did not want to repeat the same mistake. one thing i have learned about this site, is that some people will tear you apart for silly mistakes.  while i find some of it amusing, i am sure some of the ones being picked on do not.  however, based on what i've seen here, you should not post if you can't take any abuse. lol.

thank you, sagana, for the quote.

Poking doesn't necessarily make the poker a mean person.

BTW, why are you capitalizing words that should not be capitalized?  (mean, people, stick).

Capitalization of nouns within a sentence is common in German, which is probably Havelock's native language. Doing so was once common in English as well.

I just downloaded and installed the Glamour Pack and the game hangs on loading, at Modeling Marquetry (right at the start of the loading). Anyone else had trouble getting it to load? I'm going to take out my DLs folder and see if that helps. Maybe there's a hack it's throwing up on.

ETA: It loaded fine without the downloads folder but did seem to pause on that same step. Maybe it just takes a realllly long time right there :P

Blah, I hate the Safedisc protection they're using now... so many steps to get a working mini-image (well technically it's MAXI, which just means all nonessential data is 0'd out and you have to use Windows 2000/XP file compression to make it smaller).

I have a mini-image if anyone wants it.

True, but the word 'mean' (gemein) is not captialized in German either :D. I know that, because German is my first language too. I would read: Die gemeinen Leute...etc.

No FFStuff or GLStuff for me. They are lucky that I'm somewhat intrigued by the newest proposed EP, otherwise I'd hold off buying that one too.

True, but don't feel bad. You can easily read up on it and educate yourself. It's always such a let-down when people fail to see the humor in anything other than their own attempts, I completely agree with you there.

Back on topic and away from the grammar rants, I've got Glamour Life installed and it hasn't caused any major glitches, but I've got some issues with my custom content and my hacks. Some of my custom content works, some doesn't. My phone hack didn't seem to be working either, which made me wonder if my other hacks were working or not.

For the custom content, it seemed like most of my hair was fine, but most of the objects (furniture) were gone. I'm a touch overwhelmed by my downloads folder, so wondering if anyone has any suggestions for figuring out what's working and what isn't? :}

 Here is the mini-image: SIMS2SP2_MAXI.rar (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=EI2TQXUY)

You'll need something that hides the Safedisc 4 blacklist for you (ie. CureROM, sd4hide, etc.) for it to work. Windows 2000/XP users can use file compression to keep the file small (right click>Properties>Advanced>Compress contents to save disk space), Safedisc 4 onward checks the size of the image, so that's why.
Anyone interested can see how it's done here: http://fileforums.com/showthread.php?t=76736

BTW, why are you capitalizing words that should not be capitalized?  (mean, people, stick).

Capitalization of nouns within a sentence is common in German, which is probably Havelock's native language. Doing so was once common in English as well.

Then there are the dutchies, who don't even capitalise 'proper' nouns, such as the names of languages and months. For example, 'oktober' would not normally be capitalised when writing in dutch, nor would 'dutch' for that matter. Also, in Germanic languages, words are run together, so that what in English would read as 'car insurance company' would be written as 'carinsurancecompany' in a Germanic language. Speakers of these languages often work around this by hyphenating (car-insurance-company) when translating into English. Try to keep these things in mind when judging reading other people's posts, as not everyone here is a native english-speaker  :P

I think the REAL problem is that humour, particularly sarcasm, doesn't translate well over the internet.

[/soapbox rant]

EDIT: The above problem is nothing that can't be fixed by adding LOTS OF SMILIES  :) ;) :D ;D >:( :( :o 8) :-*
