Title: Disaperaing eyes
Post by: ChibyMethos on 2006 August 21, 19:19:57
I just had the cutest alien baby ever.

As a baby, toddler and child, she had the black alien eyes.

Then, Fallon becam a teenager and they disapeared! :'( WHY??!!

Has this happened to anyone else?

Is that an alien birth baby from in game abduction?

Or, are the skin tone and the eyes, downloads?

Title: Re: Disaperaing eyes
Post by: ChibyMethos on 2006 August 21, 19:24:44
She the product of an abduction. I do have the multiple poilination tech hack, but that shouldn't matter. The eyes she has now are her human father's. The ones before were from the Poil-Tech.

I can't help then, I was hoping they were downloads and you inadvertently deleted them.

Would have been an easy solution.

I have the same problem with my aliens.  All ages work fine, except from teens.
The alien teen eyes does also not appear in CAS in cheat mode, the other ages do.

I always suspected that it was caused by my alien skin replacement.  I've just swithced to a different skinset, so I'll have to check if that's made any difference.

Post by: Tamha on 2006 August 21, 21:08:15
Did they become default Maxis brown? If so, this is a problem caused by the way Maxis designed the alien eyes, and is the same reason that children of half aliens sometimes have brown eyes but never alien eyes, even if they don't have any brown eyes in their genes. I'm hoping to eventually find some alien default replacement eyes that I like and test to see if that fixes this issue.

If that's not it, then that just means something else is broken for alien teens. Which would suck.

An alien defaultskin replacement would cause this: The "eyes" for an alien are actually imprinted on the skin, and the "eye" textures simply use a null alpha that reveals the underlying "alien skin" texture. If the person has drawn eyes onto the skin as a result, you get whatever is there if your sim has the alien eye.

It's over on MTS2.  Can't remember the name of the user who made it (Bob something -- 'BobL' I think).  I'll see if I can dig up a link to it.

Found it: http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=131402.  He's got a bunch of other interesting stuff, too.

Dylan has some nice purple replacements (and a lavender alien skin that's very nice) over on insimenator.net, I think.  But it's down right now while they change servers.

but it still doesn't explain why I can't pick alien eyes in CAS for teens, when I can for all other ages.

Apart from losing her alien eyes, your sim also seems to have changed skin colour. When she was a child, she had a bluish green skin. When she became a teenager, she's become a more yellowish green.

Mind you, she also seems to have changed gender - from a really girly toddler to a boy child. So don't mind my observations :P.

Title: Re: Disaperaing eyes
Post by: Ness on 2006 August 21, 23:16:34
I see what you mean, baratron.

The first shots look like the maxis alien skin, but the teen shot looks like a completely different alien skin in there - this could be the source of the problem.

I had the same problem with alien teens, now I change the eyes on the skin files whenever I make a new alien default replacement file.

My current alien default replacement file is done from Enaylas "Porcelain Doll" skintone  ;D

I just noticed that too.  It looks like whatever replacement alien skin ChibyMethos is using doesn't have baby/toddler/child replacement enabled. So the young kids went to the default skin, and the custom skin kicked in at teen.

CM, maybe you can temporarily age the teen up to see if the new eyes stick when she's an adult?

If this is a really stoopid question and solution,  slap me with a wet kipper.

Is it possible to put teens through the plastic surgery thingy?

If so, couldn't the eyes be changed there?

Title: Re: Disaperaing eyes
Post by: J. M. Pescado on 2006 August 22, 09:02:47
With a hack, but no, it will not fix the eyes. The eyes are a problem caused by your default replacement skins. Stop using them.

Title: Re: Disaperaing eyes
Post by: Magicmoon on 2006 August 22, 14:45:28
If we don't use replacement skins, then they all look like barbie dolls.

Is there anyone making the skins with appropriate eyes?

Title: Re: Disaperaing eyes
Post by: Jelenedra on 2006 August 22, 15:34:00
It would be difficult to fix the ones you have.

The hardest part would be getting the default alien eyes in bodyshop to edit.

Or if there are some default replacements you have, just get the texture off of that. Then in bodyshop, export the alien skin tone and overlay the alien eyes over the eye texture the creator left there. (Did this for my Howl sims)

Yea, I believe so.  I went through a bunch of alien skins until I found one I liked, and hit a couple of them that used the default eyes with no problem.  Can't remember which ones right now, and I'm not home to check. :)  I finally settled on Dylan's lavender skin with his default purple eyes, but I believe they'd have the normal black eyes without the purple defaults in.

Title: Re: Disaperaing eyes
Post by: Magicmoon on 2006 August 22, 17:59:55
I like the green skins and don't want to switch to lavender unless it is really necessary.

I have several sets of alien skins in my backup folder, but I don't know which ones work right and which ones don't. I went to the original posts and found that most of them have the pics missing. I think it happened when stuff was moved from MTS2 to Sexy Sims.

I want skins that are anatomically correct, but without penis for males (I'm using CBoy's penis), and without huge boobs for females, just realistic.

I haven't been able to tell whether the ones that I am using in my game have the correct eyes or not since so far the alien children have been born with normal sim eyes.

Is there a way to test them without birthing a lot of alien babies?

Also, while we are talking about skins, is there a need to replace zombie and vampire skins so that they are anatomically correct? I read something about how the zombie and vampire stuff just lays on top of the skin you already have. If that is the case, then vampire fixes should take care of vamps and the zombies should be ok as long as the base skin was correct. True or not? I don't have any vamps or zombies to test on at the moment.

I have a set where the skins are all called 'Default xxxx', like 'Default Alien (green)' and 'Default Dark (Dark)'.  Someone here pointed them out in a thread about replacement skins 2-3 months ago.  I don't think they're found on MTS2, and I didn't keep a link to the board where they're from, but they're pretty nice, and they have the normal (not alien) eyes all the way through.

Title: Re: Disaperaing eyes
Post by: Magicmoon on 2006 August 22, 18:38:57
But the point is that if they are born with the alien eyes, then I want them to have alien eyes. If born with normal eyes, then I want them to have that. I guess I'm asking too much though if I expect one skin to do that, or am I? After all, Maxis managed it.

The ones that I have in game as well as my back-ups are all default skins. I don't create aliens from scratch, so I'm only interested in default skins.

Thank you Gwill, I don't know why I didn't think of that. I guess because I knew about it, but have never done it before.

EDIT: Will simpe show me which eyes are being used? I know that all the ones that I downloaded are anatomically correct, it's the eyes that I don't know about.

I think the problem is that the 'alien' eyes are really the lack of any eyes at all -- the skin is just showing the black background behind the green (as I understand it). If a skin maker doesn't include that, then the alien probably won't have the right eyes.

Title: Re: Disaperaing eyes
Post by: Jelenedra on 2006 August 22, 19:15:58
I think it might be a case of Maxis, forgetting to point to the alien genetic eyes, but instead just act like the alien has no eye color set, so it falls on what the eyes are on the skin texture. So a default replacement would also point to the skin texture, so if the the creator didn't change the eye texture there as well, it would result in default textures being wonky.

It could be a case of born in game aliens though. You might experiment in CAS with debug mode. Make an alien toddler and see if it loses the Maxis alien eye as you hit the age button. (That's how I check my hair packages to ensure I properly coded them all to have the same grey texture.)

Title: Re: Disaperaing eyes
Post by: Gwill on 2006 August 22, 19:40:06
Look for the texture files that look something like this:
The eye colour in that texture is the ones your sim will have unless you have default eye replacements which cover the "holes".  There is one face texture for each age and gender (kids share, and the baby face and eyes are in the body texture).

I am amused by your toddler's binky. I've never seen that before.

Look on MTS for the recolours. I must have a dozen of them.

Apart from losing her alien eyes, your sim also seems to have changed skin colour. When she was a child, she had a bluish green skin. When she became a teenager, she's become a more yellowish green.
You're right. I didn't even notice. Ew.

HEY!! :D I just didn't like that hair on her as a child. Besides, she rolled Romance, so how boyish can she be?

CM, maybe you can temporarily age the teen up to see if the new eyes stick when she's an adult?
I just extracted her from the game, so once I find her in bodyshop, I'll do that.

for those that want to do the "alien eye fix" for their teens and keep the default alien replacement files they are using.

in simpe, extract the teen face (it should only have 1 teen face in the package - if both are there then extract both cause I can't remember which one actually gets used)

in your graphics program of choice, copy the eye (from the file attached below this) and paste it over the eye on the face image you extract - merge/save(.png)

simpe - select old face - Right click on the image.  Select Build DXT.  Click open Image ... whereever you saved it to.  Select the appropriate file and click on Build.  Commit the change.  save and your all done.

I might as well ask here as anywhere else...  Does anyone know why "Build DXT" is greyed out in my simpe?  Do I need a special plugin?  I do have NVIDIA DDS Utilities.

Ok. Mine looks like the one Gwill posted, with a regular eye in the corner. I also use default replacement eyes in my game.

Now if I follow sleepycats's instructions...which I'm not sure I can do, will all the aliens have the large black eyes, or only those that were born that way?

Title: Re: Disaperaing eyes
Post by: Avalikia on 2006 August 22, 21:52:11
If an alien is born with human-type eyes, they should keep them.

Incidently, I made some alien contacts for my alien-skinned sims that insist on having human eyes.  I don't like how human eyes look on aliens.  Anyone want this?

Oh, and while I'm thinking of it, does anyone know what happened with the teenage-alien face disappearing problem?

Title: Re: Disaperaing eyes
Post by: Jelenedra on 2006 August 22, 22:00:31
Magicmoon-

I believe if you edit the the file through simpe, all aliens using that skintone will be 'fixed'.

This is assuming that the alien has no info pointing to an external eye color (other than the skin).

If that doesn't fix your teenie alien, then that's not what was broken. =)

Title: Re: Disaperaing eyes
Post by: Magicmoon on 2006 August 22, 22:03:36
Someone else is the one that complained about the teen file being broken. I assume that I would need to make the changes in my skins to all files that contain the face?

Title: Re: Disaperaing eyes
Post by: Jelenedra on 2006 August 22, 22:12:21
To be on the safe side, otherwise there might be inconsistancies. Technically your sim's eyecolor should be pointing at what they received genetically. Half alien babies should all have the alien eye, because it is more dominant. No clue if the children of half alien spawn will have the alien eye if say father or mother has brown eyes. For some reason, the alien eye loses its dominance over the generations.

(sorry for the confusion)

Title: Re: Disaperaing eyes
Post by: Sleepycat on 2006 August 22, 22:19:59
the exact name of the teen face that needs the fix is (the teen female face is not used and thus should not be in the package - if it is then change it to - just in case)

tmface~face~stdMatBaseTextureName

I usually change the toddler/child/teen/adult/elder eye images on the skintone but you don't have to.

If default alien eye replacements are used then you would need to get the eye image from that file for your teens to have the correct eyes, I think

Title: Re: Disaperaing eyes

Eh, I'll just stick them up here.  While I did go to the trouble of making these ones myself, it's so absurdly easy to make them that I bet it's been done thousands of times.  These are merely copies of the default maxis eyes, so I can't claim any credit to them really, aside from the five minutes it took to make the actual file (and I have a slow computer).  You can find it under full-face makeup (and it counts as such when it comes to attraction).

You need to extract face makeup that has they eye attatched, to alter.

With nightlife there is a blue face makeup that has they eye you can recolour.

I export that, import an ordinary skin coloured face over the top, delete the coloured one, then alter the eye only, you then get contacts for the default skin colours.
