Title: When do they whine?
Post by: dadditude on 2006 May 30, 09:02:44
Ok, this is probably a strange question, but I'm gonna ask it anyway, because I need to know.

At what point (from -100 to 100) does a sim first complain about low bladder motive without any mods in place to prevent such complaints?

Also, what personality points cause the fastest drain on the bladder motive? I'm guessing lazy slobs would be worst. Is that right?

Round about the same time you would, is my guess!

LOL! You don't know me very well, then... I'm such a couch/mouse potato that I usually wait 'til my bladder bar's about to burst before I take care of the problem... But then again, that's probably more information than you wanted to know!

Well, I think that's about the same for sims.

I'll bet Sims don't have to worry about sneezing.. :D
P.S.  Nice to see you again ZZ!

Well, if they have flu or a cold, they do!  And the reach bladder critical VERY quickly when they're ill!

Methinks it's -60, but it might be -40.

Amazingly enough, sims of an age category all of equivalently-sized bladders, and no normal sim's bladder motive has a faster drain rate than any other.

Kinda unrealistic, given that we all know some people have puny walnut-sized bladders that run the risk of an accident if they try to hold it longer than 2 hours, whereas others of us have long-range tanks the size of Texas or even Alaska, and can last without any discomfort for over a day, then piss like a horse. I, for instance, can hold over a two-liter bottle's worth. Not bad, at 66. I have nothing in common with Sim-elders in that respect.

It's all about eating raw meat. Eating raw meat makes you tough and hard.

my sims will annoyingly not interrupt what they are doing until they are almost at the complete red end of their bar.  then they will waste time whining about it they should spend running to the head.  ive had a couple pee the floor because they used what little time they had whining instead of running...  but others make it to the head in time.    i think the whole whining thing is stupid if there is some way to achieve their need they should just do that.  whining should be reserved for hungry but no food in refrig, or bathroom full...

Thing that used to annoy me most was how the maid would stand outside the bathroom and complain!

THe extended wave-and-whine set tends to be bad. Try combining the effects of "lesswhiny" with "dontwaveatme". And also use Macros.

JM casually slipping his age in there?  Seems a bit strange, does that.

As for my bladder, I am forever on the toilet, but it's nothing to do with being a wuss.  Drinking lots of coffee doesn't help of course, but in the main it was caused by childbirth (having 5 babies may not affect a Sim bladder, but it definitely affects a human one) and I therefore cannot take responsibility for the resultant weakening of my waterwork system.

Ancient, I never had any babies, but I did have two gynae ops, and I've had a problem ever since the second one!  Consequently, I don't know any more what it is to oversleep!

i have this real low tolerance for whining (unless im doing it).   if one of mine yawns in a days play i get irritated.

She frequently does a yawning action with her hand too!  Maddening when she's just eaten a plate of turkey, spent three hours before that playing the piano, having a nice bubble bath and is generally well-fed, clean and happy!

Title: Re: When do they whine?
Post by: J. M. Pescado on 2006 June 01, 21:08:03
Yes, but oddly, being clean, well fed, and happy is, strangely enough, boring, to sims. This is because rather than having a desire to alleviate boredom, like real people do, sims have a "fun" motive. As opposed to in real life, where if you're spending most of your time struggling to survive, at least you won't be BORED. Realistically, what sims should have instead is a "Boredom" motive, that decreases whenever a sim has nothing to do. What a sim is doing is less important than the fact that he's doing something, or else he will become bored. Because real people don't need "Fun", they just want to not be bored, which is solved by doing anything, even if that thing involves fleeing for their lives from a pack of hungry cannibals.

Post by: verdaeni on 2006 June 01, 21:14:17
well i had to work my way up from minimum wage with medical problems and i'll agree there wasnt much time to be bored.  but i notice that people that have always been well fed, housed, medicined and so forth seem to be very bored.  they get incensed over incredibly trivial stuff.   i had a roomate go on for two days because someone left a cigarette butt near the garage on the street.  they start imagining all sorts of slights...  maybe we need a hack for meaner sims to alieviate their boredeom by arguing with their families until finally they get kicked out and start wandring the com lots like crumpleton.  a nice sim would run around encouraging and admiring others...

I'd just like a mod that lets your sims throw out someone other than a partner!  then they could throw out a really awkward teen or a troublemaking old aunt!

Title: Re: When do they whine?
Post by: verdaeni on 2006 June 01, 21:42:45
there was a hack to make a teen runaway, i think it appeared as a drawing man statue.   it would be funny if enough of your family hates you that it forces them to move out!   you'd have to make amends and bring scores up to come back home!

Well, in one of my games, Lilith was left alone after Mary-Sue and Daniel Broke up, Daniel was thrown out, Mary-Sue left, Angela had been burned to death trying to make crepes suzettes (I'd forgotten to put an alarm in) and Lilith was so depressed she ran away.  The police brought her back to an empty house!

I thought it great that they will save babies and toddlers when a fire breaks out.  First time I saw that was with Brandi Broke's kid -- I forgot to put a fire alarm in, and the (I'm pretty sure) toddler was in the living room playing.  Beau and Dustin were freaking out, but Brandi immediately ran over, picked up the kid and ran outside.

Title: Re: When do they whine?
Post by: J. M. Pescado on 2006 June 01, 22:51:06
It's not "great" at all, it's a good way to needlessly be killed, because babies are fireproof and there is no point to trying to save them.

Well, it's great for us normal folks to see. :)  Besides, can't toddlers be killed?  I know babies can't, but I seem to recall that a toddler can burn or drown.

Title: Re: When do they whine?
Post by: J. M. Pescado on 2006 June 01, 23:09:47
Toddlers cannot be normally killed by fires or drowning, since they are flame-retardant and cannot be killed by pools, but it is possible to attempt to kill a toddler by other means and cause it to be attributed to the fire as a result. This generally requires the use of cheats, however.

well you never know, remember all the babies to chat with?   that reminds me, they really need to be able to select an age channel for chatting.  i have single sims online to find dates but all their friends are twelve years old, and you cant even tell at that stage...

Title: Re: When do they whine?
Post by: ZephyrZodiac on 2006 June 02, 00:14:54
I just wish they'd (a) put last names and (b) allow you to block townies and dormies and professors and such!  It's 3am, your student sim is lonely, and tries to chat with someone from home, and all she gets is a bunch of strangers!  (I know email is more efficient at filling the bars up, but somehow I think chatting online with a family member is more natural!)

Title: Re: When do they whine?
Post by: verdaeni on 2006 June 02, 00:23:16
i seems like you can only get 2 or 3 relationship points that way which is silly.  i have lots of good friends ive met online.   and the decay rate,  you dont talk toyour family for a week and they forget you?

Title: Re: When do they whine?
Post by: ZephyrZodiac on 2006 June 02, 00:29:12
The decay rate somehow is worse for family than friends, which is really stupid - you have your popularity sim phone his friends on autoyak every evening, and yet he can be 100/100 with his friend when he's finished, and only 100/95 with his mother!

Title: Re: When do they whine?
Post by: verdaeni on 2006 June 02, 00:35:22
i had just put in a relationship decay slowdown hack when i had to pull everything out and upgrade for ofb.   at first i thought a bunch of hacks were workng but the businesses wouldnt run in visit mode.  now im down to just insiminator, pescado twojeffs and crammyboy, simlogical and merola.  i need to get back to testing but ive been having too much fun with a whole new group of people to annoy here. <evil grin>

Title: Re: When do they whine?
Post by: ZephyrZodiac on 2006 June 02, 00:41:54
I used to use Gnomon's flamingos in the base game and they were really great, but they don't work properly now - the only one that still seems ok is the set that keep their motives up, and I have to admit I still use the flamingo of contentment, just so they don't get exhausted half-way through the day!  But TJ's electro - energy statue is good on comm lots.

Title: Re: When do they whine?
Post by: verdaeni on 2006 June 02, 00:45:58
i dont know whats wrong!  for the very first time ( since ofb ) some of pescado's and twojeffs hacks arent working!   i mean i got the upgraded versions...  the static energy statue hack doesnt work, and neighter does the inseminator static energy thing!    maybe its time to test merola's time control clock with comm lots.  is anyone else having trouble with only maty, merola, simlogical and insiminator hacks loaded?

Title: Re: When do they whine?
Post by: ZephyrZodiac on 2006 June 02, 01:11:42
Well, I don't use Insim and the static energy statue worked fine when I put it into a business lot.  And most of Inge's still work, but you shouldn't try using her doors

I think you need "enemiesaccumulate" from the Director's Cut.

Yeah, but since the original build, I added some other tweaks, such as a relational decay that doesn't end up consuming 15 hours a day to resolve. For instance, it makes it so only ~10, randomly selected, best friends per day will decay off, so it doesn't become a boring daily exercise of having to drive to a community lot just to have enough time to call them all.

Title: Re: When do they whine?
Post by: ZephyrZodiac on 2006 June 02, 02:32:15
That sounds reasonable - but do their enemies stay enemies for a bit longer?  I find it rather ridiculous, I had an incident at a grad party where Lauren Carpenter's best mate Trixie Tanner suddenly decided to leap into Lauren's fiance's arms, and having had a dust-up in the middle of his party, (which she lost) within five sim minutes all she wants to do is to talk to Trixie.  Jake, the poor fiance, whose only crime was to catch Trixie (who was his friend too, obviously, since it was his party) she stalked for days, turning up at his house in Pleasantview in the middle of the night.  But in a couple of days she was all ready to want to be best friends with Trixie again!  And guess which one had to keep apologizing to get his relationship back up with her?

Anyway, I'll stick it in and see what happens!  It'll be interesting to see what happens!

Title: Re: When do they whine?

Eh...I think you might also need the Romance Mod, if your sims are inappropriately leaping on each other.

I'm starting to think you installed all these things incorrectly, or are using really outdated versions....

Title: Re: When do they whine?
Post by: ZephyrZodiac on 2006 June 02, 04:12:11
This was dated 19.05.06, and I'm about to check for updates again (updated quite a few yesterday).

Only thing I can think of is the two female sims are both extremely outgoing Leos (they were both in love with Jake as teens, and since I have teens don't lose loves, even though Trixie is engaged to Dustin, I suppose in her sim mind she was in love with Jake first  ;D  (And although I have casual romance installled now, I didn't then!)

The only explanation I can really think of is - too much champers!
