Title: Inge where are thou?
Post by: maxon on 2006 April 05, 20:01:07
Does anyone know what's happened at SimLogical?

Sorry, if this is the wrong place to post this question.  I'll delete it if it's inappropriate.

OMG. I have no idea either. I was just there last night and there was no indications of anything like this :(

I had no idea!  Good thing I have what I wanted.  She had been talking about she wanted to not mod anymore, she was getting tired of updating for every expansion.  Hmmm, wonder why she decided to pull up stakes now without really giving notice to anyone.  Anyone notice anything in MATY chat?

Title: Re: Inge where are thou?
Post by: BlueSoup on 2006 April 05, 20:06:54
Nope.  We're just wondering about it now. (Shhh, don't tell my boss I'm in chat while at work!)

Inge! What have you done? Just done and left us here?

Why?

Waitasec. Has she been sighted since April Fool's Day?

Edit: Nevermind. She has.

Hmmm, wonder why she decided to pull up stakes now without really giving notice to anyone.

Because she could.  Sometimes running a popular site just gets to be a PITA and pulling the rug out from everyone is what you want to do.  She didn't owe anyone a warning, though it would have been a nice gesture.  Maybe it is better to burn out than to fade away.

Or maybe this is a belated April's fools.

Come to think of it, Inge may have been unhappy with us for some reason and decided to just quit. She has been playing other games a lot too recently - she's talked about it in chat.

Oh that just bites. I have several of her hacks that I consider indispensable.

Title: Re: Inge where are thou?
Post by: Fat D on 2006 April 05, 20:27:53
As there was no warning, I first though it was a late April Fools joke, but she has, unlike the last time she quit, which was on April first, 2004, I think, deleted all the subfolders except the public one.
I joined her download section this month at her repeated offer and hadn't got any time to fill it.

If I hear nothing from her, the plan to make my own site might grow again.

A warning would really have been nice. We seem to have lost one of the greatest creators.

This is bad. If she didn't tell her own moderator...

Has anyone contacted Unibrow?

Title: Re: Inge where are thou?

Title: Re: Inge where are thou?
Post by: Ellatrue on 2006 April 05, 21:09:56
She's been talking about it in chat for a long time, I was pretty sure she was done modding. I'm just surprised she took everything down instead of what I expected- just never updating again.

It's too bad, I was an Inge fan before I even found MATY.  :(
I even remember liking her stuff from TS1. Which I guess explains how she could get tired of it, it's been a long time.

Title: Re: Inge where are thou?
Post by: Database on 2006 April 05, 21:16:19
Having gained access to her forum, it has been lockign into maintence mode and this is the only word:

"whatever..."

This can't be good.

Title: Re: Inge where are thou?
Post by: Karen on 2006 April 05, 21:19:34
She's made some comments on her forum recently to the effect that modding wasn't fun for her anymore, what with all the multiple versions of her hacks that needed to be supported for each EP.  If she really has decided to quit, I'm sorry to see her go.  All her stuff is very high quality.

Oh, this is such a shame. I had been keeping my eye on some of Inge's stuff I hadn't gotten around to downloading yet. She's made such a huge contribution to Sims 2 modding...

Title: Re: Inge where are thou?
Post by: Sagana on 2006 April 05, 22:40:26
Oh no :(

I love her mods, and there are several I hadn't yet downloaded and meant to (dang, I hadn't even checked everything for OFB updates, I've been moving slow) but more'n that I appreciate her presence and contribution to the community - not just mods, but everything else as well. Inge is awesome people.

I hope she's not as unhappy as that rather sounds. I can perfectly understand not wanting to mod anymore, but would have thought she'd at least leave stuff up with a warning and just not update or something - unless that's too expensive.

Dang. :(

:(

"That's all falks

That is written when you enter her site now.

Gee, I am so sorry - personally I liked  Inge very much.  :'( :'( :'(

Inge's work has been present in my game since Sims 1.  She'll be sorely missed as a modder and a valuable asset to the community.  I hope that the outside world *shudder* is kinder to her than some of those I have seen online. We'll miss you Inge.. :'(

Title: Re: Inge where are thou?

I hope Maxis has hired her.....they should. The 'new' lock a door in OFB originated with Inge.

Sad to see you go too, Inge. Hope you still frequent the forums of some of the Sims sites so at least we can 'see you around' once in awhile. Thanks for all the modding you have contributed (both Sims 1 and Sims 2). You will certtainly be missed. Hope to see you in a forum somewhere soon! Tracy

I'm stunned.  I actually accidentally clicked on her site this morning instead of MATY and it was still there.

I sure hope Inge is okay and will rejoin the living soon.  It can't be easy to be a modder when so many people seem to think you work for them!

I too will miss her  :(   Inge's Mods were invaluable, like the NoAutonomy Fridge, awesome, teleporters, no water shrubs, and the list goes on.

If she is reading this, I hope she realizes that alot of us did appreciate her!

Good luck to you Inge.

Title: Re: Inge where are thou?
Post by: BlueSoup on 2006 April 06, 02:30:21
I don't know why people assume she's fallen off the face of the earth and won't be seen again.  I think she just got tired of modding and updating (she's said that enough times) and decided she didn't want to be responsible for keeping up with it anymore.

It's too bad she deleted everything, especially without a word (not even to her own moderators), but I can sorta understand it.  I hope she doesn't drop off the face of the Simming community.

Title: Re: Inge where are thou?
Post by: GreenEyedHobgobblin on 2006 April 06, 02:30:56
This really blows.  :(

But I can relate.  I kept my TS site, Simage Homes (for those who don't recognise my kitty, I'm Damage Inc356 everywhere else) open for several months after it stopped being fun, but thieves and bastards made me bitter and TS2 was about to come out.... and I ditched it.  I felt bad because I know there are still people who miss my stuff for the old game, but... you've gotta put yourself and your intrests and your time and your motivations first.

yeah-me too. Inge's awesome stuff is how i found MATY. i have just about everything she's done in a folder for "just in case" situations. her baby stuff is indispensable....ummmm-now that's juz not right. i was talking like she's the stuff she makes-dang it.  sometimes you wanna be more than juz what you do for people :-\

Would it be possible to put up her stuff somewhere? She said we can still share it...

I have a lot of her stuff...between us all we should be able to come up with everything that she had. I have descriptions for most of it too in text files. (Finally! My super-anal system may pay off!)

A yahoo group, perhaps?

I checked the Wayback Machine internet archive, but it only archived the text, colors and layout of her site but not any pictures or files and even then the last archive was over a year ago. I guess it will be up to the community to share her work, assuming that's okay with her, but it doesn't seem like she much cares anymore. I hope something didn't upset her. It would have been nice to have gotten notice so we could all grab what we wanted and people could set up mirrors. The whole abruptness of it just seems like a knee jerk emotional reaction to something, and I know because I am prone to such reactions myself lol.

Title: Re: Inge where are thou?

LOL. I am sorta the same way.  :-[

I know from talking to Inge she doesn't care if people share her stuff.  So, the group is set up so that anyone can join and upload/download anything, but if you don't want to upload it, you can send it to me and I can upload it.  I'd prefer people sent to Sims2Files@gmail.com if you want me to do it.  :)

Blue, I am going to send you my entire Simlogical Folder. Everything is organized and most things have the accompanying text file, named the same as the package file.

Everything there works with OFB, I just downloaded all that in that last month.

I hope to at least see Inge around in chat. It's a shame that it's all gone. I wonder then if Peter will no longer be updating PSJE either. And what of tuna? Will he be forever locked away in his cage? Poor tuna! :D

Well... if he ever does get free, maybe he might take up the reigns on PSJE? Or... any word on the Torkle PE? Was that Torkle who was workin on something? Or did I imagine that?

Anyhew, I'm babbling and wandering off topic. I hope Inge remains part of the community even if she has decided to stop modding.

With effect from yesterday, the Simlogical website and forums are

Not that she owes us any explanation but I would like to know why she left like this.

It just seems like something you'ld do if you were fed up with all the crap in this community rather than how you'ld handle it if you just didn't have time to keep up with the stuff.Whatever her reasoning is it's sad to see her go.

Title: Re: Inge where are thou?
Post by: RainbowTigress on 2006 April 06, 12:58:23
I just heard about Inge leaving today.  I've been having PC problems and I'm a bit behind on messages.  I can't believe she just quit like this.  I heard her say something in chat one day about maybe someday she might take a break, but when I questioned her about it, she never really answered.  I kinda forgot about it, because I guess I didn't want it to be true.  I have a lot of her hacks that are indispensable, as do the rest of you.  While I know I have them saved and others in the community have copies, without ongoing support, some of these hacks will become useless when installing new EPs, just like some of Dizzy's hacks have.  This is one reason I haven't jumped on the OFB wagon just yet.  I am still trying to figure out which hacks will work and which I will have to do without.  At least some of the hacks were updated for OFB, so I'm glad that I can grab them from the Yahoo group.  I will sorely miss her work.  She was one of the few female modders out there, and I was proud of that.

Of course a modder is more than just their work, but Inge put a lot of herself into her hacks.  The type of hacks she created and her philosophy about how she wanted to play the sims was her own.  She once said that she created mods in order to help the sims behave more logically, hence the name of her site, in contrast to Pescado's philosophy, which is that sims are innately stupid and should be under strict control and never allowed to do anything autonomously.  I like playing with a combination of these methods.  Inge was (is?) an excellent modder, and her hacks were of the highest quality.  She even helped me to convert her autonomous study bookcase for the other bookcases in the game.  I have those if anyone is interested...I finally got all the recolors working.  I may not have agreed with all of her views, but it is obvious from the discussions we've had here that none of us will ever totally agree with each other.

I will just end this here by saying that Inge will be sorely missed.   :'(

Inge, if you read this, I want to add a heartfelt "Thank you" from me as well.

Well I hope Inge still comes and posts here sometimes :) I would miss her if she didn't.

Hi Blue, I've sent a couple of zips to you via email. I've also uploaded the school rar file with webpage included, plus some misc. OFB hacks.

The noempty potty is not working with OFB and Inge recommended - is it Crammyboy's hack?

BTW I'm nz_wiccan @ yahoo. And witch3 in my other email. :)

I saw Inge's response to you in her thread and even though I wasn't having a problem with her hack, based on her response I switched. After I switched, the sims still had to empty the potty. I reverted back to just using her (and only her no empty hack and not the midstream one) hack and didn't have any problems.

I think I have a recent version of her "noemptypot" hack. I got it after I installed OFB as I wiped my download folder at that time and I had to hunt down a lot of her stuff. =)  I'll have to go home and check.

Inge, if you read this, I want to add a heartfelt "Thank you" from me as well.

well spoken! hear hear  :) i'm kinda sorry i've been a "lurker" for so long n so i didn't know Inge herself either, but have long admired her talent (ofb drove me out of lurking-lol!)  Thank you from me, also, Inge.

The noempty potty is not working with OFB and Inge recommended - is it Crammyboy's hack?

Hmm, I have her 'noemptypot' in my game, and I have all three EPs, and it still works fine. Sure you have the latest version? (dated 10/31/04)

yeah-it works fine for me too, n i have all three eps

I have a lot of Inge's stuff in my game and will certainly miss her creations, not to mention the fact that it peeves me to lose a BRITISH modder who puts yoos in her words.  I am annoyed now because I never did get around to downloading the school stuff and also there was a new mod she put on a few days ago that I didn't download at the time for some reason and now I can't even remember what it was!

was it the new alarm clock? i decided to wait on downloading that one too  :-\ i was looking through my folders, and it looks like i only kept SOME of them. i hate it when i decide i have to STOP being a pack rat and clean stuff out-isn't that always when you find out you should've kept it? geez! i have all the school stuff, and the kids stuff, and quite a few of the globals. i forget what else. i don't know how to upload stuff to these forums, but i'll figure it out if you guys end up missing anything that i have. Maybe post a list later?

It's too bad Inge shut down the site so abruptly, but sometimes a clean break is necessary. I was glad to read in her message that she'll be around forums as a player.  :)

It's good of you guys to set up the YahooGroup, so newcomers (and us slow downloaders who took it for granted that she'd always be there!) can continue to enjoy her work.

I too was waiting to download the newest version of things (I don't have OFB yet)...and I was so looking forward to the school.

Inge, thank you for everything you've done for my sims since The Sims Hot Date (yep, llllllllooooooooonnnnnnnnggggggggg time fan of Simlogical)

Ditto to everybody else's remarks...especially the kleenex (thanks, Ashleigh).

I'll check in on the Yahoo when I get home (no Yahoo from work) and see if I have anything not there, although with JadeElliot helping, I'm sure I don't. (I REALLY admire your OCD, JadeElliot! Wish I was that good!)

I guess what we've all learned is not to take anything for granted, and to tell people how much we appreciate them while we can. Yes, I know Inge isn't dead, but her site is, and I'm mourning that.

I have been so busy at school lately that I havent had time to do any simming. I got a few of the hacks in when I got OFB but not everything since I didn't know which ones I may need. Good thing I got some of them anyway. If it is of interest to anyone I have nearly all the sims 1 stuff and can get them out to those who show interest.

Inge you will be missed as a modder but hope to still see you around the forums and chat rooms. Thanks for the hard work. Honestly my first thought was you got sick or had family crisis, hope thats not the case, but know that I am wishing you the best just in case.

Some of Inge's things were the first things I downloaded, when it came to hacks.  I have always been impressed with her items.  I kept hemming and hawing about the reservable beds, and I never did download them (guess that will teach me, if I think I want something, I sure as anything should download it, and decide later.)

So, along that line, thank you, Inge, for showing me what playing TS2 should be like. (I loved her door that kept toddlers out of the bathroom)

on a related note...

I would TOTALLY be interested in that.  I never understand, when a Sim has a want to gain a skill point, they don't go to the bookcase and grab a book.

Thanks! I am thinking of selling my DLs folders to those who want the system but would rather chew their arm off than do it themselves! *grin* People ask me for them on a regular basis. For that and my Whimsy Valley hood.

Yeah, I was still really surprised at my emotional response to Simlogical going. I just thought she would always be there. Like a monument or something. If anyone remembers my posts showcasing my coffeeshop and gym in Whimsy Valley using all of Inge's stuff way before OFB was even an apple in our eye, then you get an inkling of how much Inge's mods mean to me.

I had not even set up my school system yet! Better get cracking.

The only other site I would get major freaked out at a sudden close up shop is N99...but luckily they are not going anywhere, thank goodness.

I agree. She's not a slave and she's certainly not obligated to mod anything and she may not even be in the mood to play the game anymore, but I'll miss her and her sweet granny avatar if she doesn't come around from time to time to post and comment. ;)

Inge, you are my hero. One of the great sim modders out there is female! How many other games can say the same thing about their modders?
If you still need me to test your institution bunks, pm me and I will send the results to you.

I will miss your site and I hope you will feel like modding again in a bit.

No-empty potty - Inge said Phedge used her code, with her permission, and it was better to use his potty. That works in my game, I took Inge's one out. I wonder if she was planning this after all?

I too will miss a female modder who spells correctly and can be more than a bit wicked. Hope I see her round the forums.

For those who are interested, there is a school.zip in the schools folder on the yahoo group that is fairly recent, 19/2/06 and includes the webpage with Inge's explanations. No idea if it's OFB compatible, I haven't used it yet.

It's in the Peasantry.

To those who wish to see the bookcases I cloned from Inge's autonomous study bookcase, give me a bit to package it up and see how big the file is.  I'm a little bit pressed for time this week, but I will get to it soon, I promise.

They are all working in OFB. I have a daycare service for children in the neighborhood. I switched them all to Inge's home schooling, and Inge's homework table to generate homework for them to do.

What was the last straw that finally triggered it now rather than some other time?

The usual reason - an insult from an individual was the final straw (this was a respected modder, a supposed friend, not a sheep-hunter or a "senator").

Which respected modder would do this? Anyone in the community who has been with us long enough to have experience and respect should know that Inge shouldn't be insulted.

BlueSoup, Inge says you are still welcome to ask her for her files if your group still lacks some.

Apparently she mistook me publishing quotes from her messages as entertainment instead of the messenger role I wanted to take. Because of that, she stopped E-Mail communication with me.

She refused to send me a backup of her forums, so I won't be able to save that. Maybe i should stop trying to save parts of simlogial and leave the rest to you.

In her mails, she accused pescado of being the worst thing that happened to the Sims community.

I emailed Inge yesterday, but haven't received a reply.  I'm not entirely sure what was all on her site (and what she was only hosting as opposed to her own creations - flamingos?), but JadeEliott and I are working on that part.  I think between the two of us, we'll get a master list and figure out what we still need.  Hopefully, we can have everything on the Yahoo group by the middle of next week.

Fat D...

I have been a fan of Inge's for a very long time...since I first found her stuff at livin-it-up...and I am definately a fan of JM's, and from what I've read in this forum, the two of them have, at the very least, respect for each others work.

I just don't think that it's helpful to post negative comments, whether true or not, because they only cause hurt feelings.   Besides, Inge is not here at this moment to defend herself...not that I am accusing you of fibbing...I just think that there are multiple sides to any story.

She has posted a list of reasons at her site:

Doesn't clear things up for me though, I'm still confused, but I'm just glad that Inge's OK and that it wasn't health or anything else similar that caused her to "retire".

All eyes point to Pescado when she said a certain modder ticked her off. But he insults everyone, so when does she take him seriously? Maybe his insults and her lack of enjoyment while making hacks just made her decide to give up.

Title: Re: Inge where are thou?

Well I completely understand when she says "this feels like a job and I'm not even getting paid for it". Been there, done that. Once it gets like that it's time to pack it in.

IF she ever decides to mod again she should only mod what she WANTS to mod and what she would personally use in her own game and just look at it as making it for herself and then sharing it rather than just making what other people want. And she shouldn't have to worry about compatibility issues. If someone is squawking about it then that's their problem, not hers. It's not any modders job to make sure their files are 100% compatible with everything out there. Sometimes it comes down to an either or situation and the user will just have to make a decision. That's life. In other communities I've been in people may say 'My mod doesn't work with such&such's mod' or 'My mod won't work with any other mod that modifies...' etc and just leave it at that.

In this community I feel like every hack has to work with every other hack or people will start bitching about it and demanding it be made compatible with Joe Schmoe's elder potty hack or whatever the hell.

Thing is though, there's a lot of kids in the this community, particularly in the huge places like the BBS and MTS2 and a lot of them have gimmee gimmee attitudes. It's hard sometimes but they need to be ignored.

Ultimately, she needs to do what she feels best. I think she needed a break. Maybe she will mod again and maybe she won't. That's got to be her choice and I don't think people should bug her about it I think she needs her space right now.

Title: Re: Inge where are thou?
Post by: RainbowTigress on 2006 April 10, 06:15:06
Inge stopped taking requests for mods a long time ago.  Perhaps it was already starting to get to her then.  But I think it was also because of the way Maxis keeps changing their code in each new EP, and so new EPs are not fun anymore, they just mean more work.  Of course, it would help if Maxis would quit releasing buggy products.  But aside from that, every global hack has to be examined and tested every 6 months, and it's pretty much a requirement for every modder to get every EP that comes out whether they want it or not because if they don't people will keep pestering them for updated versions of their mods.  Perhaps that's why Dizzy got out as well.  I know that if TwoJeffs or Pescado ever quit making mods for the Sims, I will probably not buy another EP, and perhaps my interest in the Sims 2 will die out as it did with Sims 1.  I do not find nearly as much enjoyment in the game the way it is shipped by Maxis.

I appreciate when modders work together on their hacks like Pescado and TJ have, or TJ and Jase, plus others.  But while it is nice, we have no right to demand that they do.  Still, I understand that it was probably very stressful for Inge, although she was very firm in her stance, she cares about people and probably would like to be able to do stuff for them if she had the time.  But there is not nearly enough time in the day as it is for real life responsibilities, let alone the Sims and making mods for everyone in the community.

Title: Re: Inge where are thou?
Post by: J. M. Pescado on 2006 April 10, 06:23:15
Eh, new EPs aren't THAT much work anymore. It only takes about an hour or two upon getting it now that every single hack doesn't have to be checked manually, and generally about 85-90% will scan clean and work without changes.

All eyes point to Pescado when she said a certain modder ticked her off. But he insults everyone, so when does she take him seriously? Maybe his insults and her lack of enjoyment while making hacks just made her decide to give up.

"If you are one of the people who is working on a way to share my files, and you find you have stuff missing, I can probably find a way to make them available to you privately if you let me know.  If you're the person who pissed me off, don't bother asking as you probably won't even have the decency to say they're my work."

That doesn't sound to me much like something Pescado would do ... but what do I know?  ???

That sounds more like someone was stealing her hacks and distributing them as their own... but again, pure speculation, as I'm out of the loop.
