Title: Sims 1 for Sims 2
Post by: flowerchile on 2006 January 19, 01:28:35
I was just reading through some of the older posts and came across "When was the last time you played Sims 1"?  Reading those posts reminded me of some of the cool things they used to have, e.g. the real fish and frogs in the pond, the medievil dunny, and my all-time favourite; the Pokie Machine.  My question; does anyone know whether any of the Sims 1 objects have been remade for the Sims 2, and if there have, could you provide details.  My thanks.

I don't really think so. Maybe some were remade, and I missed it. :-\

I've never played Sims 1.
I think I'm spoiled by Sims 2, because I find sims 1 so absurdly ugly that I don't see why anyone would ever want to play it.

Well, no objects that I know of, but it seems that someone somewhere (http://www.sims2.thesimsresource.com/profiles/view.php?mid=129251) along with someone else (http://www.sims2.thesimsresource.com/profiles/view.php?mid=689452) worked to at least get some walls and floors done. I was going to do some objects, but, um, some majorly life changing personal stuff got in the way. Sorry to say that I don't even have my copies of the walls and floors anymore, or I would offer them to you on a non paysite, I might download them all some weekend soon and put them up, if you want me to.

I so miss the bottling table from sims 1 - and how useful for family sims who want to stay home and earn money!  And I do disagree about sims1, there were some really nice objects, such as the grand pianos, some of the build stuff from Unleashed, the cafe tables and chairs etc. need I go on?

I've got several Sims 1 remakes of various walls and floors.  I'll see if I can find them.

Well, I've found a dozen, and they're all ones I use a lot, so I know they all look good in game.

Toddfx at tsr has a few objects from sims 1 made for sims 2, if I remember correctly. The expensive stereo (with the weird looking, upright speakers), the really cheap black and white TV, and those giant speakers that came with house party. Just wait until they're free, and download them. Usually, if you're vigilant you'll catch them.

Elf, thanks a lot for the link (I have an account there, but didn't visit lately)!

Now I can play my favorite nostalgic families again. Real happiness...:). I really miss the Newbies and the Goths, as they were in Sims 1.

Thanks for the ideas and messages,  I really appreciate them.  I will do some surfing, (skating my husband would say, not PC compatible), and see what I can dredge up.  If anyone is interested I'll let you know if I find anything...

I miss the real Michael Bachelor!  Libra, lazy and oriental-looking!  Funnily enough, I also miss the Mashugas!

And I really miss Elton(?) and Mama Hick!  I used to love turning Elton into a Star!

The tennis court and the cheesy hawaiian decor, walls, bar, tv...ah those were the days.  You know, I only played Sims 1 for about a month (Only bought computer last year) and then my friend told me about Sims 2.  The rest is history.

I miss the "preachers pulpit"  it was so funny.   I miss the sims getting booed by other sims when they did not have any charisma points.   I miss the "dial-a-slap" too,   very funny.    ;D

Occasionally I get really nostalgic for some of the sims1 stuff. Things I especially miss: that lime green sofa (http://thesims.ea.com/us/about/hpscreenshots/images/global/screen19.jpg), the basketball hoop, gnome-building bench, vegetable garden, that ugly orange chair (http://thesims.ea.com/us/about/hpscreenshots/images/global/screen16.jpg), this sort of tacky decor (http://thesims.ea.com/us/about/expansionpack/screenshots/images/global/screen2.jpg), the genie, spiral staircases, and the couch, chair, and round endtable in this picture (http://thesims.ea.com/us/about/unleashedscreenshots/images/global/screen2.jpg). Well, among lots of other things. I want my new sims to have all of these snazzy-but-tacky objects, too. If I had a 3-d program thingy I'd try recreating them, but I don't. So yeah.

Post by: gali on 2006 January 20, 00:10:18
OK, I played with the Goth-Sims-1 family - all went quite well, except the tombs in the yard: I coudn't touch them, and couldn't order Mortie and Bella to mourn. So I moved them to a new house. But it was pleasure to play the little Cassie again...:).

I am going now to play the Newbies - they already befriended the Goths at the community lot. He he, I am going to make a new Brandy Newbie...:).

I agree cheriem

I liked the fact that they took up much less room than the stairs that are available do now and as a consequence most of my houses are one story only.

...and round endtable in this picture (http://thesims.ea.com/us/about/unleashedscreenshots/images/global/screen2.jpg).

I have that, and the pale yellow wicker end table, and the dark little Mission end table. Someone else made them, I just downloaded them. I'll have to start up my game to find out who, though.

Unfortunately, those are the only Sims1 remakes I know of. I miss a lot of the Unleashed furniture, too.

[edit] They're by Ogula at Savage Sims, in the Free area. Look around that site, you may find other Sims1 objects remade. They're very well done, except that the catalog description still shows that of the "Crazy 8" table used as a base.

Good news???  Max3d has re-created the Wavy counters, (I loved them) and a few other items at MTS2.  Go to Buy mode, By function, Surfaces and search for Max3D.  Hope this helps any Sims 1 nostalgia buffs...

I miss playful people teasing with puppets, and if the other person was playful, they would laugh and pull out their own puppet and put on a show. And gift giving. Gardening. Baking bread. The cooking is cooler, but it's not as satisfying to buy "food units" and then making whatever with them. I liked buying sugar and butter and baking mix, and if I forgot carrots I couldn't make carrot cake, just bread and elderberry pie.

And it sometimes increased in value!

Does anyone else miss the flickering gas-lamps  and the ceiling chandeliers?  I hate how in Sims2 you can have wall candles, tables candelabra and the standing candelabra, but no matching ceiling chandelier to complete the look!

I did saw on the Sims 2 exchange that someone redone all the houses that where in Sims 1.

You have to search for them by address.  Like example:  9 Sim Lane

I miss gardening, baking breads, churning butter and wine, and selling honey.  All of that came with the later EP's, Unleashed and MM, I think.  I also liked making the gnomes with the bench and then bringing them to life and watching them get drunk in the wine vat.   :D  I guess that some of this will be possible with OFB, namely baking bread and making objects for sale.  But I really missed being able to make a country community and having farms.

Title: Re: Sims 1 for Sims 2
Post by: BlueSoup on 2006 January 21, 01:18:40
I was never able to get the gnomes to come to life.  But I didn't really try either.  And on the subject of farms, if the new survery is to be taken at face value, then the EP after OFB will have to do with farms.

I think Makin Magic was actually one of my favourite expansion packs - I too loved matching the ingredients and actually creating a dish as opposed to just clicking on the fridge.  Loved the wine vat & also the stage where your sims would perform magic tricks.

I didn't like unleashed too much - it got really old really quick especially the rabbits & gophers - yuck!!!  I never grew carrots & stuff on my lots as the animals would drive me positively batty.

Ah, good days, good times...

I never got around to those expansions, but it seems to be like the main point of growing things like lettuce and carrots *IS* to attract rabbits. Rabbits, after all, taste a hell of a lot better. Mmmm. Rabbit.

The problem was they didn't let you eat the rabbits or gophers.  Your pets got skills and you got a ball of fluff that you had to dispose of.  Roasting vermin on a spit and letting you givie the leftovers to the pet would have been noice.

I remember I read on the bbs that they are going to make each aspiration a expansion pack. University was knowledge, Nightlife was eather popularity or whatever came with it, Open For Business is Fortune, and the new one is family. Makes sense when you think about it.

Title: Re: Sims 1 for Sims 2
Post by: ZephyrZodiac on 2006 January 21, 04:46:44
If so, maybe they should do something about those missing LTWs!  Without more LTWs, each EP is going to just get more and more boring since the sims will have no more varied ambitions than they had in the base game!

So far it seems to fit, but that doesn't mean that's necessarily what they're doing.  I don't believe anything I read on the BBS; all those people are full of crap.

Title: Re: Sims 1 for Sims 2
Post by: J. M. Pescado on 2006 January 21, 06:15:55
University was popularity. Knowledge sims actually suffer quite horribly in Uni, since they can't get their customary skillpoint wants at all. NL was Pleasure, they actually made an entirely new aspiration just for it. OFB? Who knows? Who cares? NOT ME!

Title: Re: Sims 1 for Sims 2
Post by: Simsbaby on 2006 January 21, 06:23:22
I would have thought it was knowledge, their wants seem to shift to be what they need, like if they need a cooking point then the their wants will show him wanting that.

Title: Re: Sims 1 for Sims 2
Post by: ZephyrZodiac on 2006 January 21, 08:11:53
It's Fortune sims who always want the skills they need for their jobs, Knowledge is random, they may need cleaning skills, but they are hooked on logic, so that's what they focus on!  And if they have teenagers, they fill up their want slots wanting their kids to get scholarships.

What I'd really like to see, and haven't so far been able to find, is Sims2 versions of some of the hair from Sims1. Specifically, the one with the black hair and blond streaks and sunglasses. 'twas an original Sims head, no expansion, and I'd kind of like to get ahold of a sims2 version of the hair so I can recreate a sim that used that head.

Yeah, there was a lot more variety for sims 1, but that was mostly because there were like 8 expansions. If you compare just the base games to each other, Sims2 probably shipped with more stuff.

Yeah, but I still want some TS1 objects that aren't in TS2

God, I miss the teleporting stairs and the cage dancing and the cake where you could hire a person to jump out a do a show

You either got the regular(one that your sims were very attracted to) woman or man your sims ordered, or the ugly one(gorilla or something) sometimes

I found a complete set of remakes of Sims1 walls over at MTS2, but when I checked them they looked to be much poorer quality than those I've got from other sites.

From what Heather at SF told me, it's quite difficult to use a Sims1 Wall to create one for Sims 2 unless you have the original ;icture you created the Sims1 wall from, and I know that Ptekgirl (Juniper sun) had to do all her remakes twice to get them so she was satisfied with them.  So it seems it's far harder to make a Sims1 wall into a good Sims2 wall, than just to create new ones.  Anyway, I'll load them into a test hood and check them out, and I'll make a collection of all those that seem ok and get back to you.  No-one seems to have done the floors, though, and I'd have thought they were easier as the templates are the same shape - I think the wall templates must be wider, as all the patterned walls appear to be stretched horizonatlly.

Well, if you yourself created some floors you could easily remake them. However there is no way to extract the original square bitmaps from the game, they could only be pulled off of a sideways diamond shaped screenshot. Rather difficult to reshape and smooth the pixels in Adobe. At least that's what I found when I did the tons of walls and floors that I linked to way at the top of this thread. I admit though, some of them I had to recreate, and some of them I could never get to look fully the way I wanted to.

Title: Re: Sims 1 for Sims 2
Post by: ZephyrZodiac on 2006 January 22, 17:21:44
Sara, if they are your walls, I apologize for sounding critical, I realise why they are so difficult to remake without the original picture/pattern etc. that was used to make them.  People have asked Heather at SimFreaks to remake some of her SF1 walls, and she said the results wouldn't be very good as she didn't have the pics that she used to make the originals any more.

I haven't tried them in game yet, and I expect they will actually look far better in game than they do in the images I got with the clean installer.

Again, I apologize, I certainly didn't intend to hurt anyone's feelings.

Title: Re: Sims 1 for Sims 2

No, those aren't my walls at mts2, mine are at tsr. I wasn't offended, even if you did critisize mine that's okay 'cause so do I. Just sayin' I didn't think you noticed at the top where I linked to them, especially since you said no one had done floors. My partner and I did a ton of floors, almost all of them. I think she never finished the MM walls and floors she was going to do, I'll do them later (along with touch ups) when I get a graphics program (again, lost mine) this summer.

Edited to add ~
Oh, and my original offer still stands, if you see walls and floors I want I will redownload them and upload them to a web page somewhere.

Yeah, best thing about Vacation, IMO, was Sims' being able to bring home those kitzchy prizes. They were ugly, but it was cool...it was STUFF! And the souvenir cabinets were rather nice, especially the tacky peacock style. Everybody needs a wooden acorn and eight scummy boots on a peacock cabinet in their living room.  ;D

Whelp, there went my other lips.

Hairfish, it seems that I keep following you around this board today.  I'm sorry, I'm not a stalker, really.   ;)

Anyway, I ldidn't like Vacation at all, but the fishing was cool.  I tried to make a lake and put a fishing pier on a residential lot, but it didn't work out.  Too new to go reading forums and finding out what I could and couldn't do.  LOL

I always got the Ceramic Chicken Cookie Jar with my reward points & then the penguin.  It was ugly but there was just something about it...

I miss the curvy modern dresser from Makin' Magic, the spiral stairs, and the "floating" stairs. I miss all the cool spa items too, esp Parsimonious' funky ethnic recolors.

Yes, yes, I know. Necromancy is bad. But I the meshes that I mentioned earlier in this thread by toddfx are free right now at tsr. (The expensive stereo and cheap black and white tv from sims 1) If anyone's interested you can download them here:

(You have to log in first.)
