Title: Sooo, Does Anyone Play This Game?
Post by: Aggie on 2017 February 23, 20:56:13
Call me nuts but I actually really like The Sims 4, especially now that they have a certain non-existent lifestage and blood suckers. Does anyone else on here actually play it and is willing to admit it?

I play it.  but no where near as much as I did 3.  in fact, I still find myself firing up 3 more frequently.  but 4 seems to finally be finding a stride

Been busy playing other stuff and dealing with family drama.  :P

Also: I hope I didn't break the site. Not long after I posted this thread I kept getting an error 500 message.

Server running on a potato sounds good, environment-friendly tech! Please share!

Seriously, I'm glad it still works.

Yes, I play. The toddlers were certainly a shock, because they just dropped them without as much as a hint or a leak or anything. They're actually well done, some say even better than the other life stages. I do think people play, they just hang out on other sites because this site is in sleepy mode.

And it only took not-Maxis three years to implement them. I wish that meant we'll be getting CASt and open world eventually, but sadly those features require actual work...

I'm surprised that Pescado isn't interested in playing the cracked version since there are a few murder and mayhem mods out for the game that are rather well done. Some features that I've seen are: drowning in your own pee, embarrass a sim to death, and a Chucky mod that allows the toddler to set things on fire and literally stab a sim to death using an actual knife and results in a bloody stab wound and the immediate death of the victim.

Probably because people don't seem eager to crack it. I haven't tried too hard because frankly, it's just a mobile game that somehow found it's way onto PC instead, but I've yet to find a crack for the latest version (toddlers and vampires). There's also the fact that every update seems to make many script mods unusable.

These sound way cool but still not enough to tempt me to play. I tried; oh how I tried but after 3, I felt the whole cartoony vibe and loading screens to be a massive step back. Do not want.

Have you even TRIED getting an up-to-date version of the game? It's basically impossible.

That's not really my thing. What's MISSING from the game is the opportunity for Sims to generally fight and have utterly dysfunctional relationships like seen in TS2's Awesomeland. No handbag walloping. No Punbot-smacking.

Which seems to be more due to lack of interest than anything else. I'll never understand why companies spend so much on expensive DRM like Denuvo. Best way to protect your game against piracy: make it unappealing AF.

Polygamy seems to be an option. It loses most of it's charm due to the fact that you can max out your relationship with someone in less than half a day though (right from the start, no OP charisma skill or anything like in The Sims 3).

Eh, I can see that. It does have a few mean interactions that may be appealing (tranquilizing handshake for one), but not a heck of a lot, admittedly. Have not yet had the chutzpah to play a sim that Hates Kids and have them Crush Toddler's Dreams yet, though.

I tried to do that with my own kid, but it is too much like its parents and is as cynical as we are. How the hell do you crush the dreams of a kid that wants to be a tax attorney?

There is indeed a lack of squid.

Also hello!

Dude, I tried TS3 but can't get past the pudding people. The open world thing is nice but its not a seller for me.

Someone who isn't EA needs to remake this game.

No. It was bought as a gift for me, and it's very very pretty, but DAMN is it boring. I occasionally play TS3 but fucked up when I bought a disc for IP and now Origin is required, so I removed it all and have to start over (yes yes I will pirate IP like I should have from the start). I have TS2 fired up right now. Still the best one.

What do you mean origin is required?  Mine asks if you want to install it, I just say no, everything works fine without origin.  Unless you have the downloaded version, you don't need to install origin (unless Eaxis did something nuts with newer releases of the disc version).  Origin is one of the reasons I haven't installed TS4.

You can use the super patch to revert TS3 to 1.67 if you accidentally (or intentionally) installed 1.69.

Did they really

make a transgender patch last summer?

what is amazing is that no Simmers are talking about it. Underwhelmed, much?

Would that work on a newer disc that installs origin with it? Had BFBVS so I lost everything non-important. I reaaaaally don't want to have to pull out my eye patch and hunt down legit yarrs.

It should work. I had to reinstall TS3 through Origin when I built a new PC, since I had originally purchased it through EADM (I know, HUGE mistake). Running the 1.67 super patch downgraded the install so that Origin is no longer required.

For me it's a toss-up between 2 and 3.  Tried the free trial for 4, and I agree, it's a Facebook/mobile game, just for PC.  I didn't mind CAS but actual game play...well, if the base game comes down in price to, say, $10, then MAYBE....

Now for TS3...1.69 has the expansion and stuff pack manager, doesn't it?  I've personally never had an issue with it (running Windows 10, don't know if that's relevant).  I actually like that feature, since IMO most of the TS3 expansions don't integrate as well as TS2's do unless you make custom worlds.  And one of these days I may take another stab at figuring out CAW.

I haven't played the original Sims, since Sims 2 came out in 2004. I am running windows 10 so I doubt with my lack of computer skills it would even work.Istill have all the discs.  ;D

Post by: Avalikia on 2017 July 09, 02:23:37
I actually have the Sims 2 as well, and have that working on this computer too.

That was actually harder to get to work than the original Sims - for that I just had to make it run in admin mode and windowed, but display at the maximum size it can (which is still much smaller than the screen size of a modern monitor), and you also need to Ctrl+Alt+Delete, then cancel, after it loads or all you can see is a black box even though the game loaded.

That was nothing compared to Sims 2, where the main difficulty is that I have each individual expansion instead of some sort of complete set combo.  That means that in order to install each expansion the previous expansion needs to be updated to the latest patches.  But though said patches are provided on the disc, they refuse to install.  So I ended up trying to overwrite my installation for each expansion with the files from my archived Sims 2 game from the pre-Sims 3 era, and that worked somehow.  I'm convinced that short of something like that or hackery beyond my skills, it's probably impossible to install Sims 2 on a modern PC unless you have the all-in-one combo set.

FYI: I have a modern PC but run Win7. I can install and update Sims 2 with no problems.

Yeah I'm pretty sure that the fault is with Windows 10 not playing nicely with the older-than-dirt patching program and not with the PC hardware being too uber.

Post by: Bugger on 2017 July 24, 22:27:34
I'm running 2 and The Pudding on Windows 10. I don't have a single combo set, so it does take forever to install everything but is running fine so far.

I Play Sims 4, I do like it and building is a lot better in 4 than other versions.  I have taken to rebuilding all worlds/cities then playing with the help of mods and tons of CC.  I still occasionally play 2 and 3 when they are not lagging on me.  Thus far no lag in 4 not even with my 10 gigs of CC.

There are still players and active community of simmers for this game.

It has grown since it's release though there are those who always find something to hate about it.

What is sort of toxic is how most content creators now are starting to think they are some sort of artist thinking that they should have their content protected and even profit off of it. They are just people who make content for a video game. I'm surprised we haven't seen an increase in paysites during this iteration of the franchise.

Either way, The Sims 4 is still a decent game that offers a wide array of new gameplay experiences even though it still lacks what previous installments held.

Plus for those who still want to play The Sims 3, but hate how it requires a monster of a machine even if they had the luck. This game provides a decent alternative alongside The Sims 2.

Aye, I stuck my finger in the pish that is The Sims 4: Because 2 Steps Back, Twice, Equals Four when they offered a free trial. Bombed out like a Dresden maiden on a mixture of Midori and Stolichnaya (a terrible composition I will tell you, but alas I had little else to dull the shakes of alcoholism) I blistered my way through the creation of a marvellously contorted creature that seemed to lack any semblance of humanity while also perfectly encapsulating the all-too-human, poison-induced suffering that rattled inside my booze-addled heart. I don't recall much of the gameplay itself, but I think that sums it all up, really.

When I awoke in a puddle of shattered glass and fine cheese vomit the next morning (late evening) with a headache I had already uninstalled both The Sims 4 in my drunken stupor. Considering the likes of EYE: Divine Cybermancy (a heinously obtuse game with barely a shred of comprehensibility) managed to make impressions on myself in far blacker states of sloshedness I can only suffice to say that the Sims 4 has about the staying power of a flavorless Cheesy Wotsit (Cheeto for you septics) in a torrential hailstorm. I've since had no urge to return to it, even when seeing CC I would much rather use than what's available for TS3.

Even staring into those goblin-eyed nightmares that the Pudding World Generator manages to crank out at a gatling-gun rate, I feel somewhere closer to home than I did touching The Sims 4's install button that first time. The exact opposite of home, it felt like a childhood soujorn into a motorway siding in the mid-2000s, before smartphones; astricken by the slave-driver nature of childhood, all one had to occupy themselves with was sit there and stare at cars flying by like the proverbial Flying Dutchman, hoping the majesty of a warm, toy and video game filled home would arrive soon. Neither distressed enough to bawl, nor entertained enough to grin, a true purgatorial state of absolute, complete, NOTHING.

I'll also say that pouring a liter of raw ethanol into my body was less toxic to my cells than clicking "Install" on the Origin launcher. What a pain in the arse.

GoblinCum, I'm struck by your 'over the top' response to the Sims 4. Have you no sympathy for the devs who had a mere month to turn the game from a mobile game to a computer game?

Talking about unplayable games have you ever tried "I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream"? This is weird, I found the wiki and apparently the game was released on 1995 for PC, I suppose DOSBox qualifies for that category. Most confusing game I ever tried to play.

ETA: Damn, the game is no longer on GoG.

Yes, I own it and I've never been able to do a full run of it myself. I think looking up a guide would do it a disservice, but man.
