Title: I was told about a marriage post mortem hack that is here....
Post by: speedy on 2005 December 14, 20:18:15
I've down the search several times with different wordings and can't find it. Can anyone help me? I don't even know if I'm asking this in the right place.   :-[

I downloaded it and put it in the folder, but I still can't marry my Sims. I think the game is hinting that I need a break, lol. :'(

Yes, but after I realized I had it running, I quit the game and restarted it. Do I need to have the game off while it downloads and when I put it in the folder?

Yes, but it should be there now.  Just in case, it wouldn't hurt to re-download and install the hack, while the game is off.

Title: Ok. I downloaded it again while the game was off.

Now, on the insiminator there's a chair. I clicked on Relations Adjuster and that brought up a pink heart. From there I've got options about Marriage, Engaged, etc. I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do to allow him to get married again. I even saw something about a family tree, but the only ties it will let me end are the ones with the Sim he's leaving with. There's nothing about his deceased wife.

Title: Ok. I figured it out.

I went into the old house and found the wife's grave at the front of the house. I deleted that one along with his mother's grave. When I went back to my sim's lot, he was able to propose. Is that how it always works? You have to delete the grave in order for the marriage to no longer exist?

Hmm. I'm not sure that's what this hack is supposed to allow, but I could be wrong. As far as I've understood it, it allows for the marriage line between sims to remain intact when one or both sims die. This is the "official" description of the hack's functionality:

marriage-postmortum.zip - Officially Nightlife Compatible
The marriage "spouse" line is no longer automatically disconnected after death.
The surviving partner may remarry as usual, which will correctly connect the line to
the new partner and disconnect the old one, but unless the survivor remarries, when
he dies, their marriage line will still show as connected on the family tree, like
those of the deceased Maxian families.

I don't see how that would help you reconnect a line for spouses dying before installing the hack, or allow you to marry a dead sim, but I could be wrong.

Well it didn't seem to work. It seemed as though the widow thought he was still married, b/c I couldn't get the engagement proposal to come up with his new love. But deleting the dead wife's grave seemed to do the trick.
