Doesn't look like happening at Simlogical either.

Inge, The Sims 4 was released almost a year ago. Go see your doctor immediately - we may have cause for worry.

This place has died. Pity, really, since I learned a lot here from Sims 2 onward. What happened?

Sims 2 was worthy of the title 'awesome', whereas 3 and 4 have not lived up to the hype.

Also, doesn't TS4 require Origin? Pescado installing Origin is never going to happen.

I miss your retail hacks in TS4, Inge. I loved the auto restock and instant cash register in my OFB stores and wish my retail establishments had them again!

I also wish Pescado would mod for TS4, I'd love to see what he'd come up and fix. I have fewer quibbles with TS4 than I have with previous games, but there are still annoyances I'd like to see fixed!

It's on my list of things to look at, but currently it's a bit too hectic for Pirate Cat to keep current with, it seems.

Well the Reloaded version doesn't require Origin.

How well does it handle patches and updates?

How well does it handle patches and updates?

Currently Reloaded version is at 1.7.65.1020, one patch behind Retail (1.8.61.1020).
All older DLC included.

Kind of, you have to wait for their "homemade" patches to be released.

Sounds like I might be staying with TS3 for a while longer, especially as Pes is still working on it.

You need Origin to verify when its first downloaded (whether via Origin or Disc) otherwise you can set origin to offline.  Origin is nothing more than a client like Steam.  You do not have to be set online to play.  I personally never have had any issues with Origins client.

I have found Most mods for TS4 are at Mod the Sims.  There are two people at SimAsylum (Madame Butterfly & JustAnotherSimFan (JASF)) who also have some good mods for TS4 as well.

The question was whether or not TS4 was going to happen here, not "HAY U GUISE KNO ANY GUD MOD SITE 4 TS4???/?" And Pescado isn't going to install Origin period, so it doesn't matter how often it's needed. And while you personally have never had any issues with Origin, the one time I installed it, it quietly uninstalled my ARRed EA titles without prompting me, and I'm not the only person that's happened to.

I know others have had issues.  I know it most likely will not have mods here for Sims 4 so I simply put a few places where there are for those that might need it who read this post.  If you guys don't want it here simply remove the post.  I was simply trying to be helpful.

The majority of people who use this site are actually well aware of what sites host mods for TS4, especially given they are generally the same sites that continue to host mods for TS2 and TS3.

After the lies and debacle that was securom with TS2, I don't trust EAxis any further than I can throw them, which isn't far.  The fact that Origin MUST be installed to play makes me question the real intent and purpose of it.

I downloaded the Games4theworld (http://www.thepiratebay.se/user/Games4theworld) versions, along with their update, and I have no Origin on my computer, and am playing just fine now.

Yep.  But my point is FOJ could install this one, and not have Origin.

Post by: jezzer on 2015 July 12, 11:59:56
Why even bother? TS4 is a shitty last-gen tablet game that threw out all complexity, focusing on brain-dead collectible hunting and overly simplistic mood management.

Title: Re: Sims4 is not gonna happen on here, is it?
Post by: LOolyharb on 2015 July 28, 17:40:28
I think it has potential. And by that I mean that it may just be playable a year from now when it catches up to the Sims 2 base game. Right now, 10 mins of gameplay and you feel like there's no point to play on. It may be that we have just grown tired/bored of the sims franchise.

Title: Re: Sims4 is not gonna happen on here, is it?
Post by: cwurts on 2015 July 28, 19:16:40
Oona proclaims once again:  they need to bring back the old way of playing multiple households. Instead of the discount bulk box of 3 and 4, Sims 2 had households that were individually wrapped chocolates in a neighbourhood full of flavorful delight. When you get bored munching on one, you have a whole neighbourhood to choose from, but you can come back any time and continue where you left off.

Post by: witch on 2015 July 28, 23:29:49
I'm still playing sims 3 happily, there are many things I've still never tried. The big losses of TS3 were genetics and running a business. TS3 in a living hood, with CAST for builders, is the best yet. I wish more companies would try to build people simulators.

Title: Re: Sims4 is not gonna happen on here, is it?
Post by: LOolyharb on 2015 July 29, 13:58:47
The big losses of TS3 were genetics and running a business.

What about the hideous sims with their terrible routing and animations? I think the sims 4 is a step-up animation-wise, loading and overall look of the game (except the worlds. the sims 3 worlds were gorgeous), but nothing feels like sims 2 gameplay-wise. The sims 2 base game was sufficient to play around with families and the age groups were great (no babies aging directly into 9 year olds in 3 days), good aesthetics and UI, the AMAZING music is certainly missed as well :(
Sims 4 is just an oversimplified, corner-cutting disaster without all those emergency updates they released after the backlash. I don't think it's there yet, like at all.

Title: Re: Sims4 is not gonna happen on here, is it?
Post by: witch on 2015 July 30, 00:44:09
I've always loathed sims music and turn it off ASAP. Routing in TS3 has been much improved with various mods and personally, I always thought the TS3 sims were the most lifelike, but YMMV.

I could not lose the integrated town, I love that all the families/sims are doing their own thing. I pop in here and there and change things around, then move on to the next. Put the sims on Epic and you can still see them all grow up without the endless round of level this fambly up, then the next, then the next.

TS4 is beyond ghastly, it reminds me of the The Sims Online. Lots of little clone sims lined up in a row being inspired to act identically. And painted ground FFS! It's a phone game.

Title: Re: Sims4 is not gonna happen on here, is it?
Post by: jolrei on 2015 July 30, 01:54:41
As far as I can tell, TS2 was the real game.  3 gave us a living 'hood, which was almost worth something.  Admittedly you had to drop genetics, but you also got to drop the scheduler, rotating houses, and the notion that any time you accidentally deleted a family your hood would go BFBVFS (as much fun as that was).  I still think the graphics in 2 were better than the softened puddingy stuff in 3.  Nevertheless, the point I am slowly getting at is that every new version of the game has dumbed it down further and removed key features to replace them with shiny useless rubbish (like emotions - who uses emotions anyway?).

Post by: smokeverbs on 2015 July 31, 08:46:07
No open neighborhood, no dice. The open neighborhood is why I still "put up with" TS3. Unless Pescado can figure out a way to open up TS4, I'm good where I'm at, 20 minute loading times and all.

Title: Re: Sims4 is not gonna happen on here, is it?
Post by: Ambular on 2015 August 01, 03:22:32
I think if I ever do TS4, it will probably be after the last expansion and patch have been released, the full feature set is in place and I can make the rounds of the modding sites and pick up whatever goodies and bugfixes I want, ONCE.  I only just recently worked up the wherewithal to add the last couple of TS3 expansions, weed out everything that broke and update it all to final version.  Patches are a giant PITA I really don't need to deal with another dozen times or more (and god knows I'm not about to play an out-of-the-box vanilla Sims game.)

We're all better off playing TS3 or even SimCity BuildIt on mobile than that insipid The Sims Online remake with few TS2 elements thrown in, lbr.

I'm waiting for TS5...

Title: Re: Sims4 is not gonna happen on here, is it?
Post by: Tangie on 2015 August 27, 02:21:29
I wouldn't hold my breath for TS5 if I were you. If the theme of TS3 was Half Baked, the theme of TS4 is Barely Baked. And that means that the theme of TS5 will be Raw Meat. ;)

I really don't think EA is interested in creating simulation games any more. They want to cash in on the name recognition of these games to make cheaper online social knock-offs that tend to make them just as much cash for less effort. First came SimCity '13, then TS4. Next came SimCity BuildIt and ???...eventually another Sim mobile game is coming to an app store near you.

I understand the warning not to post to this topic... I have to voice my agreement with the sentiments however. I am JUST NOW starting to play sims 3 after a long hiatus from the game entirely. Schilling out good money for an inferior product is no way to encourage better products. So I come in on the back end pay less money (if the product holds up). From what I hear about #4 I won't even bother. What dunderhead decided to drop the toddler phase? This I am sure of, Pescado has done wonders through the years with bettering the games, in short order I might add. If he were so inclined I'm confident he would add bells and whistles to that pig and make it somewhat respectable.

Pescado once mentioned he was having trouble finding any conditional logic in sims 4. You know TS4 was made for tablets and phones originally? That's why it's so sparse and requires so little computing power.

The current thing I'm screwing around with is experimenting with time. All previous time-scale modifications to the game have had numerous issues: Twallan-style Relativity causes time-hiccups where the sun jitters in the sky, and generally breaks event scheduling by causing triggers to fire at the wrong times: When a trigger programmed to go off "3 hours later" goes off in the expected number of ticks, but time has been repeatedly rewound, the times are wrong. The other attempt I've seen results in the times for actions to not actually changing, so LENGTHY idle delays where your sim stares vapidly into space for no perceptibly obvious reason result, and the action still ends up taking a huge amount of time. Since nobody has really managed to do this WELL yet, I'm exploring my own options, and think I may have found something.

It has its own side effects, of course, but these may prove easier to overcome. Testing is underway. Or rather, testing WOULD be more underway, if this didn't greatly increase the number of annoyances-encountered-per-simday that must be squashed.

Seems like an interesting thing to start out with and pick apart, I never myself noted the issues with Relativity in that sense, but I suppose it's because I didn't pay much attention myself when I played a lot, but in all if you can fix how game time flows without breaking things like the sky and event timers, then it's worth the extra symptoms to stomp out. If I may ask, what kind of annoyances are you seeing pop up with your attempt to fix it?

Also if I may ask, how are you faring with modding in S4? I know there's a bit more hoopage to jump through with S4Modding, so it's interesting to see how people adapt to them.

Well, it's not quite what I started OUT with. I started OUT by simply waving a hammer around randomly, breaking things just to see what would happen if I smashed a file in certain ways, without any intent of actually making a directed change, to see how they game would react if I inserted a file that was knowingly defective in specific ways, or deleted core game files. None of THOSE things are actually fit for mortal consumption.

Well, yes, you know me. I'm extremely picky like that. That's why Awesomeware is made to the highest standards.

Mostly of the "don't fucking do that, oh, hey, somebody made a thing for that already" and other EXTREMELY NITPICKY things that bug nobody except me.

I figured that it wasn't the first thing you tried out and I half expected you probably tried to turn TS4 into a BFBVFS (and probably managed to do it). Have you seen that crazy thing though with custom TS4 script mods? The whole you have a main mod package and this weird TS4Script file in the same folder at all times. That shit seems like an interesting setup, but I personally find it another annoying thing to deal with.

Well, yes, you know me. I'm extremely picky like that. That's why Awesomeware is made to the highest standards.
I never questioned that. I liked your mods in TS2 and 3 because they fixed the bugs that I wanted fixed without all the silliness or specialness.

Well no one ever said it's bad to not have to work on things, always frees up time for new things to make.

It's cool to be seeing some vetran modders coming back. I'm hopeful that we'll see some awesome recreations of older and well done mods and some newly done ones.

Wow! I am really happy that Pescado got the game!
The Sims 4 is the only game I am playing right now because the load times are much better than Sims 3 for example (and if I want to spend an hour playing, I don't need to spend half the time waiting for things to load) and because I still haven't gotten the Sims 2 installed on Windows 10... As of right now I am not using any mods and I have encountered issues with the clock running and all sims being stuck for (sim) hours. I think it happens most often during club gatherings. Am I seeing the same issues JM is describing?

Considering that EA tosses out patches because the wind blows, I would assume he'd have gotten it on Shitagain so he can keep himself able to fix/test issues every time EA farts out a patch.

IIRC the ARR'D versions seem to have gone longer between updates (The G4TW version is stuck back in December).

As long as the FOJ includes the Soviet Russia seal of approval on his TS4 mods, - wherein the bolshie appliances use the sims, and not the other way round - then I'm totally "Red" and I'm totally Hammer & Sickle in.

In Soviet Russia, you do not use TS4. TS4 uses you...

Can't wait. I knew you'd get round to it eventually, FOJ. You always have been a key simmer. Resistance is (Was) futile...

I'm a page too late for the reunion, but I'm getting back into sims now that I have a life again.  Seems like I missed a lot.

Li'l Brudder as I live and breath... oh.... anyway thought you were dead. Glad you're not.

The Sims, or having a life?

I'd tried to play Sims 4 before, and it looked okay, but in the end I found myself feeling pretty apathetic about it and dropped it pretty quickly. I reinstalled Sims 4 again today, felt a little more interested, and then decided to have a peek over here. Nice to know that this is apparently the year everyone decided to tinker with it again.

I look forward to seeing if Pescado ever rolls anything out for the masses.

I don't have the patience to even start!  I was just about gathering up enthusiasm for it a couple months back and then I saw what was happening with the monthly patches and so many mods broken every time I thought sod it.

I've been thinking right along that I've about had enough of the old the-patch-broke-everything-again routine, and I may eventually get the game AFTER all the expansions and patches and mod updates are released.

I bought the game a few months ago, and there's so many problems I regret buying. If you wait until everything is released and fixed, TS5 will probably be out. It's a viscous cycle

Viscous cycle sounds about right.

Sticky and repetitive. Note how it returns to the beginning?

Fuck off, Titlights. No one wants to talk to you.

I was gently mocking the OP grimmer for his use of VISCOUS instead of VICIOUS. You, as a member of the Grammar Police, should have spotted that.
But looking at the vid, it seems remarkably apt.
