Title: Origin screws my computer
Post by: rmaddzoo on 2015 February 14, 15:25:04
I have been having computer issues lately, I refreshed my computer, it is a Windows 8 thing that saves you files but removes all installed software and installs all original drivers etc.  After the refresh everything was running fine, when I reinstalled origin I started having the same issues again.  Has anyone else had this sort of thing happen? Now I have to weigh whether it is worth playing the Sims 4 or not.  How I wish EA would have just improved upon the Sims 3 instead. . . Origin blows.  But you already knew that. . .

I'm thinking that installing Origin is merely a coincidence; even as bad as Origin is, I can't see it doing much to your PC, although It's hard to say, as a fix for "screws" on Windows 8 didn't come up in any Google searches.

Some extra information about what actually happens, other than just issues, would be useful.  Many things can screw with a computer.

The computer runs really slow, hangs, lags and the updates for MS Word and Windows freeze and will not update.  When restarted Word will no longer open.

Origin can use up a relative large amount of memory, so if your computer is already cluttered with processes, viruses and possibly old, I'm not surprised your computer gets 'screwed'. Also, if you're using a laptop, it's possible your computer is also getting too hot beside all the other problems.
You can try cleaning your computer or you can upgrade your computer hardware and OS.  Search for 'clean windows x'  or 'speed up windows x' (replace x with the windows version you have) on google.

I'm not suggesting this is your problem, or indeed your mistake, because Origin is far from being a friendly little Santa's helper of a program. But a common error among users reporting Origin messes up their computer with lag and so forth, is because they have not shut Origin down properly when finished with it. When finished gaming and you wish to use your computer for other purposes, then simply closing the Origin window does not shut the bugger down as it would most other programs. This is where Task Manager is your friend, to open it up, see that Origin is still running, and running quite high the sneaky little so-and-so, and use said Task Manager to shut it down properly. It can help in most cases with ending the Origin poltergeist effect.

I will check to see if Origin is still running in the background and if so squash it. Thanks for the tip.
