Title: Lot challenge, June 2013
Post by: witch on 2013 June 09, 14:22:32
This month you will need to find a picture of something you like on the net and attempt to build it in the sims. Of course with sims' building limitations you sometimes have to be a bit creative in work-arounds. An example of this is Woozlebury Mews (http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php/topic,21521.msg591844.html#msg591844), a townhouse I made. Another project I am working on - but not for this competition - is this rather cool picture.

So:
Find a picture of a house, or commercial building, or even a park/garden you like.
(If you mainly do a garden, then make at least two seasonal versions. e.g. summer / winter garden.)
Keep the picture for display with your creation.
Make the lot as big or as small as you like, but keep in mind that people generally prefer smaller lots for fitting into crowded hoods.

ETA: Name your lots.
Use any store content you like.
If you use custom content (CC) you MUST include it for download with your lot.

What about CC and EA store?

Even CC exterior walls ... please....

Title: Re: Lot challenge, June 2013
Post by: witch on 2013 June 10, 00:19:20
Hmm, EA store, definitely OK.

I dunno about CC. Personally I find it a pain to track down and load things for just one lot. You could put the CC up for download along with your lot. That might upset a few people and cause some fights, so that would be OK.

OK. CC is allowed if you include it for download in your post.

I'm working to this huge house.
It is possible to include in sim3pack the CC contents? If yes, how do I make that?
Custard do not show me the CC used. The CC to appear with Custard, they must be installed as sim3pack? I have installed the CC as package.

I took a little bit of liberty with the building. It appears as if there's a room off to the side of the chapel that we can't see from the photograph. Well, in my building there definitely is a room off to the side. :P

I tried to replicate the famous home of the television series The Vampire Diaries. Glenridge Hall has only one photo of the façade on internet.
The Interior is built by my pure imagination.
The living room is inspired by the series.
Even the outside arrangement is my imagination.
I have made so many photos for everyone to see this huge mansion.
I have tried to keep the style of the old mansions, with a Baroque atmosphere and space for servants.

52 Glenridge Hall
Lot size 50x25
Price furnished 289277
Price unfurnished 152168

CC used is included in rar.
CC used are: the medieval kitchen (from MTS by The Merrye Makers MTS), the Tudor walls and the climbing plants (by LunaSimsLulamai) and the well and gothic arch (from SimWorld)

I guess this month's competition did not appeal to many.   :'(

Title: Re: Lot challenge, June 2013
Post by: rainkius on 2013 June 26, 08:06:34
I actually started looking for the "perfect" house to build right away. But unfortunately, most of the ones I liked I decided against because they were basically impossible, or way too modern (past voters didn't seem fond of that style), or doable only if I used a ton of CC.

I did start one but it's turning out like crap. I'm an amateur builder, and custom roofs really strain my patience and abilities. But I'm still planning on finishing and getting it up - It's just taking a lot longer than I expected.

And I've had three weeks of no weekends. I'd like to ask for this one to roll over another month.

And I've had three weeks of no weekends. I'd like to ask for this one to roll over another month.

I agree with you, because I founded another famous house, but is a boathouse and I hope to have the new EP in a week (on Europe there is a delay of distribution).

Post by: witch on 2013 June 26, 10:01:57
We've had a deadline at work too, finished last night. I might have time to build something if we roll it over. I've put a poll up for 5 days, so we'll see what happens. Sounds like there's a bit of interest.

Title: Re: Lot challenge, June 2013
Post by: witch on 2013 June 26, 20:28:15
I'm also thinking about CC and I'll backtrack on the requirement that it must be provided for download, links will do. Because I do understand that some buildings need extra content to match images.

I have dreamed last night that I was sleeping in this House ... I still dreaming to slep in that house… in real life… but it's only a dream…

Tom Hanks Houseboat -Seattle
Price furnished 110038
Price unfurnished 66201
Lot size 40x40

Build with patch 1.55. A have all EP and SP less Island Paradise (not yet).
I will never be able to build this house like a really houseboat, seeing the pre-made lot dimensions of houseboat on the new EP (founded on thesims3 site) so, this is a lacustrian house.
Do the technical limitation of the games, the house can't be reproduced 100%.

Oh, I'm SO happy this one will roll over. I have a bazillion ideas, but no chance to implement them until mid-July.

I don't know shit about the Vampire Diaries, but I am impressed by the sheer size of that house.

I was one of the people who voted no, because I find these sorts of challenges quite hard. Plus there isn't many Sims 3 tools that can accurately make a Queenslander home.

But thanks to the bogans, I can present to you the McMansion. A favourite of Housing Estates, where your house should take up most of your block and have more rooms than ever needed. Fill it with furniture bought on interest free and throw in some bamboo for "culture".

When I saw this old photo online I knew that I wanted to make the house for my ranch Sims.

http://www.encore-editions.com/western-ranch-house (http://www.encore-editions.com/western-ranch-house)

I finally got around to it this summer.  I visit the MATY site all the time when working on my Sims projects and noticed this thread and thought I'd upload this project.

Mockingbird Ranch House Download: http://www.mediafire.com/?4f66k046bdn0267 (http://www.mediafire.com/?4f66k046bdn0267)

I call it the Mockingbird Ranch.  I stole the Foxes' 50x50 lot in Appaloosa plains and created the barn based on my grandpa's.  Their lot had the best side lots that really add to the whole look.
I have all the expansions, stuff-packs, and tons of store stuff so if you do not have all the packs/store items you may have random replacements.

I usually use more grunge than you see here - but wanted to keep the cc to a minimum.  I hope I spotted all the cc; five packages - all free downloads (see credits.txt file in rar) included with the house all in package format so it will be easy to uninstall if you dislike them.

I play tested all the beds, ladders, appliances, stalls, etc. Everything works great for my ranch family consisting of my bf, the hired hand (re-tooled butler), 3 horses, 2 cats, 1 dog, and me.

I really like the western house, it's well done and authentic looking.
I also really like the knot garden, it appeals to my geometrical bias and I like having everything efficiently in one place.

My home is based from this. I could not compose myself to be a selfish bitch on flowers so I made two versions, one with tons of flowers and the other flowered to be close to the pic. Both versions are decorated all the same with a difference of flora.

I have a question - If the house I chose to recreate has plenty of decorated interior shots available, will recreating them fairly accurately earn me imaginary bonus points? Or is it more important that the outside & floorplan match?

I pretty quickly got bored of that - So no imaginary lollipop for me. :P I didn't like the decorating of the house as a whole, and decided half-way through to minimize my CC, so a few of the rooms "match" and others don't at all. I included reference pics for those that kind of match.

I will let you be the judge:

Clearly, this house is fancy. And expensive. And pretty large. I know those last two things aren't super popular around here... But I've been staring at it for weeks, and I'm in love with it (the real life version, that is). Built in North Carolina in 2007 for Coastal Living's 10th Anniversary, it was professionally decorated in the traditional local style and then sold in 2008. It burnt down in 2010, sadly, so nothing exists of it today (although you can still buy the plans, so my dream of owning this house someday lives on).

Furnished: $63,945 (not wanded)
Unfurnished: $34,957
3 bedrooms (sleeps 5 & 1 baby)
1.5 baths

Notable features:
Detached, unfinished basement - Complete with a rack of Grandma's home canned goods. (Building a basement in a foundation is so obnoxious and using the CFE cheat to attach it to the house was leaving floating, white planes behind. Not worth it.)
Kids play area
Dog-ready (big)
CC free! - Made with all EPs & SPs (excluding Katy Perry) through IP, & I have all the store stuff.

I, again, forgot to put ceiling tiles up, and I also forgot to put a mirror in the bathroom. Also I accidentally left a phone on the floor of the dining room. I figured these were minor enough that it didn't warrant loading the game again.

Voting's open, click away.

I didn't end up with enough time to build after all, but it turns out we have a great selection anyway.

I have a post where I told that Timonil houseboat is a mistake. It's only my imagination. Please cut it from poll.

A great job done by everybody who entered. I think I downloaded every lot in the thread.
