Title: New Pets patch 1.29
Post by: Druscylla on 2011 December 14, 19:16:23
Lots of Pets issues supposedly fixed. Apparently our sims could nom horse fertilizer before this. And they patched a cauldron we don't even have.

I'm installing now. So let's see if it explodes my game.  A little curious because Win7 asked me not only to grant patch installation permission but also asked permission to install an EA Proxy so Ima just get my tinfoil hat on.

I could use some help here.  I have 1.26.089 and I cannot get this patch.  Everytime I download it, it goes all the way to the very end and says "Invalid File Found" and won't let me install it.  I had this issue before, but one day it just randomly let me patch the game, so I have no idea how to fix it.  I have a couple of Arr'd SPs and the Pets EP, but I don't think that should be causing the issue, and I did try with my firewall off.  Could someone please tell me what's going on?

If you use LAA Turn it off before patching. That's what caused this problem for me.

What is LAA?  I've seriously looked up everytyhing I could find on this problem, and I can't get I can't get it to update no matter what I do.  It seems to find thinvalid file somewhere around the TS3W file, and I attempted to replace it, but I can't even find a file to replace it with.  THe one thats in there is a cracked one that came with Pets, but Pets didn't appear to come with a NON cracked one.  There isn't a copy of it on the base game disc, either.

TS3 supports LAA by default now.  Your problem is probably using the launcher to patch.  Don't do that.  That is a bad thing.  Get the patcher from MTS.

Oh, never mind.  I see by your last post that the problem is amateur hour pirating.  Good luck with that.

Jeromycraig, everything I downloaded I followed the intructions for to a T.  I'm not a total, N00b, you know.  I wouldn't be updating through the launcher, but I couldn't find this patch available elsewhere yet.  I also mentioned that I had this same issue before, but it managed to resolve itself without my having to do anything.  I think it might have been because I installed a new EP, but I can't remember for sure.  If you know how I might be able to get the update to work, I'd really appreciate you telling me.

Title: Re: New Pets patch 1.29

Your problem is that the patch is not seeing the original .exe, which is causing the installation to abort.  According to your posts, you don't HAVE the original .exe (you seem to be claiming that the game installed the cracked .exe on its own without any effort on your part and you never did have the original file, which is frankly unbelievable).  If you don't have the original .exe saved, your only course of action is to uninstall, reinstall, and this time keep the bloody thing and perhaps use something like Awesomemod or Twallan's No-CD hack to bypass the disk check instead of relying on a cracked .exe.

Dude, did you ever stop to think that maybe the game is telling you it can't update because it found an invalid file because IT FOUND AN INVALID FILE? What do you think a crack is? How did you get all the way to Pets using fucking cracks? Stoopid n00b.

Jeromycraig, thank you for telling me that.  I didn't know that the TS3W file was an .exe file, but in all honestly, I can't find a non cracked version in the download of the Pets EP.  I did a search through all the folders, and its not there.  The only one that is there is in the "fairlight"  folder, which is the crack, so I can't just copy the thing off of the ISO.  Thank you for he advice, though, because I think I've realized how to fix the problem.  I  ought to be able to make a copy of that file before I install the crack after reinstalling.  I was hoping to be able to find that file on the disk so I didn't have to reinstall, but I cant find the thing, if it's there.  Anyway, thank you for the help.

Kissing_Toast, no dip, Sherlock.  That thought obviously never occured to me because I am such an incompetant n00b that I have absolutely idea what the fuck I'm doing, certainly haven't been doing this for years, and was, by no means, obviously just momentarily confused because I was unable to locate the invalid file on the goddamn disk.  So, maybe instead of being so arrogant as to believe that anyone who knows what they're doing doesn't make any mistakes and insulting people who attempt to politely ask for help why don't you just shut your mouth?

Jeremycraig, I honestly didn't realize it was an exe file.  I just didn't pay attention to that.  There is also a file in there the crack that I KNOW is an exe file, and it lists the EP number in it (which is what makes it obvious to me).  I should have paid more attention, and I'm not denying that at all.  But thats not really a N00b mistake.  Pets if the first EP for the sims 3 I've downloaded this way, and the cracks for the stuff packs didn't touch that particular file.  That said, I DID have the sense to try to find a non cracked version of that file to put in, but I couldn't find it on the ISO, so I asked for help.  I may be somewhat new to downloading for the sims 3, but I'm certainly not new to cracking games and the like in general, so I apologize for ranting, but I didn't think there was cause to insult me.  I do appreciate your help, though.

Using cracks for the Sims is a n00b move, there is no need for them and they only cause more stress than what they're worth. Your initial post of the launcher telling you it found an invalid file and you saying it couldn't possibly be your arr'd copies and that you have no idea what could be causing this is very much deserving of my response. If anything else you're at MATY, moar fight is the motto here.

This.

Seriously, I just didn't pay attention to the fact that the TS3W file was an .exe.  I know that the exe files are important.  I just got a little click happy and didn't bother to pay attention to that particular one.  I am willing to admit to fucking up, and I DID admit to being new for doing this for the Sims 3.  I never had an issue with 2 or any of the other games I've ever downloaded and cracked...and I've been doing this for a very long time.  I just screwed up, ONCE.

I didn't believe it was the Arr'd copies at fiirst because, on the site where I downloaded them, other people had said that they had been able to update the game successfully without having to screw with the cracks.  I didn't say it couldnt possibly be the issue, just that I didn't THINK it was.  And than, when I went to remove the cracks, I was unable to find a non cracked version of that file.

Kissing_Toast, I don't understand why I shouldn't use the cracks for Arr'd copies, when everything else I've seen says I should.  Would you please explain?

Watch for the in-game store advertising. Wanted something from the store but didn't have the simpoints, now you might be able to have it with the right amount of simpoints. Oh joy.

That is actually...rather curious. I am wondering what exactly it means that the item appeared in the game at all. Is it, therefore, actually sitting on the computer waiting for you to spit on your hands, hoist the black flag, and start slitting throats?

I'm feeling particularly charitable today, so I'll field this one.  See, the reason we don't recommend people use cracks is that so many people overwrite the original .exe with the cracked .exe, which makes the game impossible to patch without having to reinstall the whole damn thing (I know it's hard to believe that this could happen, but I assure you, I've seen it.  Recently).  Then there's the issue that a patched version of a game will usually require a brand new cracked .exe file to match the new patch version.  It's just high maintenance, and we recommend skipping it when, in the case of TS3, there are much more user-friendly options available.

Hopefully Am will find a way to block these, I wonder if these show up if you own have everything.

I'm guessing they will, since decrapped/repackaged store files are treated as brand new, different objects by the game.  Heck, if you used .packages, decrapped files, AND bought the store item, you'd have three different copies of it in your catalog.

Some new trees and terrain from the patch.

So, I'm not sure what to do.  Was this supposed to happen since the update incuded updates to EPs I have yet to reinstall?  Will the game work after I reinstall everything?  Or, is this an early sign that something went wrong somewhere...even though I'm not sure what could have gone wrong, with only the base game reinstalled at this point...  Thank you.

The patch only updates what you have, not having an EP shouldn't make this happen. I've never had a problem patching from the launcher, others have. I do still however make sure the launcher got everything with the tool from MTS, which may or may not be updated yet. I would definitely try uninstalling and reinstalling, you're actually doing it the same way I do when it comes time to reinstall everything, base first, patch fully, then the EP/SPs.

Kissing_Toast, what other user-friendly options are available?  And I do thank you for helping me.  I'm sorry for snapping at you, I really am.  I'm normally quite nice.  Its not an excuse, but I've been up for hours with my four month old, and I'm just kind of bitchy today.

I personally use Nraas no CD mod, because you don't have to worry about waiting for a patch update. You can use Awesomemod as well.

The new objects are bizarre. I don't remember getting objects in patches as being the norm. EA being charitable is also kind of raising my inner paranoia. I had to grant permissions for two things to install when I used the launcher (I was feeling brave since I barely play it on my laptop) to install this patch and one was as mentioned that EA proxy which might be added permissions for in-game adverts. If I think about it from a DLC standpoint its convenient but since I know EA never does anything strictly for user convenience it makes me more annoyed since the announcement of Showtime illustrates that yes, they are willing to go there.

I wouldn't be surprised if the new trees were accidents, I wonder why they're labeled as base game.

I am suspicious about the objects also. I know EA polled about naming the new Alien world, also there is a magic cauldron coming. Both would go nicely with the trees for a whimsical lot, but still looks at these objects with distrust.  :-\

I view it about as I would a rabid dog that could bite me and then spontaneously combust. I have difficulty believing these were included intentionally. It just kinda makes me skeptical since they also patched the cauldron we don't yet have. Because it seems more on par with EA to only release those items with another of their overpriced custom worlds.

Edit for retarded typo.

The new objects are bizarre. I don't remember getting objects in patches as being the norm.

There's been quite a few added with patches before or at EP release.

Some wall sets have been added and also two other trees (Redwood). I'm not sure when those arrived through.

Yeah but these trees and that terrain are just weird. Like Spore weird especially given the recent survey and the fact that no other alien (futureshock aside) anything has popped up. Maybe EA thinks they're titillating us. Either way I haz a suspicious - the store advertising thing is also really curious. Crinrict posted on SimsVIP that even if you have an item installed (that Asian Fusion bed for example) if you attempt to purchase it and place it in a home that it can freeze or crash the game. Can't tell if EA is serious or just very stupid. Or seriously stupid.

Looks like a new window is included too.

The new trees look like they're from the Shivering Isles. The new patch also doesn't seem to have fixed the no-fluff problem everyone with a Raedon graphics card seems to have. Not interested.

If anyone is inclined to enable the shop mode for the store in your game, don't leave it that way when you close your game. Several updaters have experienced it and think enabling the shop mode is crashing the game.  If anyone have enabled the shop mode and the game is crashing, you can modify the options.ini file to disable it by setting it back to 0.

enableingamestore = 0

Just updated to 1.29 patch and I have to say, what a dumptruck of fail.

Go to launch game.  Game says my mods may be obsolete.  Try to run anyway.  Game crashes.  Odd, just got the newest "1.29 compatible" versions of my mods, but whatever.  Time to track down the culprit.

Began by removing a mod.  Same message.  Game crashes.  Removed another.  Same message.  Game crashes.  Wash, rinse and repeat until I have NO MODS LEFT in the game.

Same message.  Game crashes.

So to recap: I remove every mod from my mods folder, including the folder itself and the game still just says I have obsolete mods and crashes.

Guess I'll be playing something else and hope EA can pull their heads out of their asses for 1.30 patch...

Just like with Dark Author, the launcher may be shit and a liar but if the game is spitting warnings at you it's for a reason, you most likely missed one somewhere. Ea has dropped the ball on many things but this sounds like total PEBCAK.

Okay took my sims on vacation to China - still some lag and minor freezing but nothing game breaking. However, upon arriving home both sims climbed into the fambly vehicle which was black before and now looks like this:

Not sure but it may be worth noting that it registered as an unmanned vehicle via AM before my active sim got in it. Its a very amusing effect.

I have the new patch installed.

It's nice to see they didn't stray too far from fucking the game up with every new patch. I now don't have any empty lot templates,I can't build or place objects,my wall tool is only half there! Whenever I load a house that I have made it keeps trying to load the lot even though it is there.  I also can't zoom in or out.

Time to throw this game in the bin and stick with TS2.

It does exactly the same thing for me. I even reinstalled Base Game and Pets before patching and can't find any mods from anywhere that could cause the crashing. Caches are deleted, framework is installed to every EP...Oh well, off to play S2.

Is anyone else experiencing random "ACCESS_VIOLATION reading address 0x00000030" crashes to desktop since the 1.29 patch? The crash happens at random times - with or without CC - so sometimes I can play for a bit and do many things, but other times it's the exact opposite. My Sim lives in Appaloosa Plains and is only on week 2 of her life, but could it still be a possible save corruption?

I've been getting those, too, since 1.26.  One was definitely a corrupt save, but my graphics card isn't well suited to games and seems to be part of the problem.  Turning down the settings, getting rid of memories, and using a smaller neighbourhood is helping so far.

Ever since I installed the 1.29 patch last night, I've had my sound cutting out and not coming back on. The sound plays as normal on load up, then about an hour or so after play, it cuts out. How typical of EA to "fix" things, and break a million other things.

You had a comma splice in your sentence; you're supposed to use a semicolon to join two related independent clauses.

I think she has a total of 5 memories (okay, maybe ~20 since they like to have memories of such trivial things) but I'll try deleting them, along with turning down some settings. I don't suspect graphics to be the issue, but it couldn't hurt to turn some settings down for a test. Thankfully, I won't be losing too much progress as she's only 2 weeks old, but these crashes are still ridiculous. I suspect save corruption, but we shall see..

Can you provide a bit more info? Does the sound cut off completely but come back after a while, all at once? If so, that's a problem that has been around for a while with no known cause, as far as I know.

The sound doesn't come back on after a while. It took me a while to actually realise that the sound had turned off completely. I first noticed it in CAS. In CAS the background music tends to cut out after a song or two, but the sound effects play as normal. Last night when the sound cut out, I figured that was the case again. Only the sound effects (changing clothing options, outfits etc) when clicking the buttons were not playing and the sim wasn't saying anything either. The last time it happened, I had my sim teaching his dog to speak, as the interaction started, all sound cut out again once more. I continued playing for a few minutes, then saved and quit the game.

EDIT: What is PEBCAK?

What is PEBCAK?

It's been found to be the most common cause of computer problems.  You should probably Google for a good PEBKAC scanner for your computer.

Next time you play, try one thing out: when the sound cuts out, pause the game for 5-15 minutes and do something else near the computer while you wait; keep an ear open for any sudden spew of sounds, which should hopefully happen. If it happens, just repeat the same steps the next time the sound cuts out because you now know it will come back eventually.*read below* This is actually a good thing because it means your game isn't screwed, just a victim of a random bug that has been around for a while. If the sound doesn't come back, I can only suggest basic troubleshooting suggestions such as removing CC/mods, etc.

Edit: A quick search led me to this thread right here on MATY: http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php?topic=20852.0 - check it out if it matches your problem & follow the solution suggested. I know you said the sound cuts out completely, but I can't tell from your posts if you wait 5-15 minutes on Pause to see if the sound comes back. In my own experience with this issue and from other posts across the interwebz, the sound always comes back after a while.

I am going to give this sentence a special Grammar Day thumbs up for being correctly punctuated. Some might quibble about the comma before the final subordinate clause, but given the length of the sentence, I am happy to let it stand. Thanks for participating in Grammar Day!

I also have the sound issue but this patch didn't cause it as it existed before this. I just save and exit, then restart. Or I go play something else.

I had this too... so I installed a BRAND NEW copy of every single expansion on my other computer, Installed no mods, ran the game and It said "unable to verify that my cd is a valid copy" (because it isn't)

I put the Crack in, and it loads, BUT I get the out of date mod message...

Bottom line: A crack is a mod... /facepalm

Anyone know where to get a 1.29 Sims pets crack? If not I'll post when I find one.

Inb4 someone says using cracks with the sims is a noob move :>

Hope some Awesome Modder can show me the way :P

Dude, even in the event of minor framework/patch fail AM will still perform the no-cd function.
