Title: Hidden Springs
Post by: marilyros on 2011 August 26, 14:43:39
I installed hidden springs via launcher using one of the links from the downloads post and it said that the installation failed.  Is there any way to fix this?

I'm also trying to install it, but so far no success  :-\

You have to install HS just like any other sims3pack. It works just fine, you're doing it wrong. We didn't need another thread for this.

I just got the file from another link and it works fine. Maybe the previous one was corrupted....

I did it right.  I have other CC for sims 3 and they work perfectly fine.

Can you tell me the link ?

can anyone please post Hidden Springs as a .package file. I am using a mac, and for some reason that means that when I download .sim3pack files form the forums, they don't install through the launcher. Thanks!

are you using a mac? If so, how did you install it? did you just download and put it right into the downloads folder, or did you have to put it through another program first?

No I don't use a MAC, I wasn't replying to you specifically, sorry.

There are a few recidivist MAC users here, someone is bound to create a package file at some point.

Does it normally stay at 0% for a long time when installing it through the launcher?

How long is long?

Title: Re: Hidden Springs
Post by: honey_bunny on 2011 August 26, 23:46:22
30 minutes and still at 0%. I closed it out and looked in the Installed Worlds folder and the file it created was HiddenSprings.tempworld  :-\

And it wasn't in game when I started it so I dunno what's wrong because it's very rare for me to have a problem installing store stuff.

Try re-downloading? I used the .rar, extracted, decrapified and installed no problems last night. I had a good look round Hidden Springs - bit underwhelming really - and all seemed normal. Well, if your normal is rich white hets.

If you are talking about a .package file already being posted, I am aware of that. I downloaded the .package and .world files, put the .package in the World Cashe folder and put the .world file in the Installed worlds folder. I loaded my game and nothing for Hidden springs shows up when I go to start a new game. I messaged the poster of the files to ask if I was doing anything wrong, but if you have any suggestions, i would love to hear them!

Try this:
- Put the packages in your Packages directory (under Mods)
- Put the world with the Sunset Valley world. If you installed in Program Files, it's in a subdirectory a few levels below

I am using a mac, So I installed the game in my documents folder. Sunset Valley is a world that came with the game, so I'm not exactly sure where that is. I searched it and found a few .nhd files and a Sunset Valley.sims3.backup folder in my saves folder. Could you specify what folder to put the .world file in, or are there any Mac users out there who could help me out?

Thanks!

I'm pretty sure that's what happens when you use packages for worlds instead of the sims3pack, if you are using a sims3pack then IDK.

I don't have a sunset valley.world. I do have Barnacle Bay.world and Riverview.world, which are both located in the Installed Worlds folder.

Title: Re: Hidden Springs
Post by: Dramagirlie on 2011 August 27, 01:58:36
I put the Hidden Springs.world file where my other .world files are (Installed Worlds folder) and have tried putting the Hidden Springs (objects).package file in both my mods folder and in my world cashe folder, and the neighborhood still won't show up in my game. I also tried changing the hidden Springs (objects).package file name to Hidden Springs_objects.package, which is how the object files for my other downloaded worlds are formatted. This also had no effect.

Title: Re: Hidden Springs
Post by: MegAnne on 2011 August 27, 02:17:24
And where are your executables? Just to clarify: we, poor Windows users, have Barnacle and Riverview in the Installed Worlds directory. But Sunset Valley is somewhere else.

If I recall correctly, app.

I don't have any .app files.

Title: Re: Hidden Springs
Post by: MegAnne on 2011 August 27, 02:51:23
Actually that should be a directory. Do you have /Applications/The Sims 3/The Sims 3.app/

Title: Re: Hidden Springs
Post by: Dramagirlie on 2011 August 27, 02:56:04
I do have that, but it is not a directory. it shows up as the icon for the game, so if you click it the launcher opens.

Title: Re: Hidden Springs
Post by: MegAnne on 2011 August 27, 03:00:01
Well, I'm now kind of curious on the outcome of this.
If you go to /Application/The Sims 3/ and right click on the The Sims 3.app and select "Show package content", does a new folder appear?
For example, can you find there /Contents/Resources/transgaming/c_drive/Program Files/Electronic Art/The Sims 3/Game/Bin?

Well, I cannot say this will work ( the only Mac in this house is owned by my kid and she refuses to let me have it right now to test - too busy with some flame war in Facebook) but you have nothing to lose at this point. Drop the world thing there and try again. I'm going to hide waiting for your angry reaction if that does not work.

Title: Re: Hidden Springs
Post by: Dramagirlie on 2011 August 27, 03:31:41
haha. i'm not angry. I really appreciate you trying to help me. putting the .world file in that worlds folder causes my game to crash as soon as the loading screen loads. I don't get to the screen where you can select a family or to create a new game.

Title: Re: Hidden Springs
Post by: MegAnne on 2011 August 27, 03:43:17
I'd tested when I wanted to understand why I should have paid $20+ to EA to buy the "new Barnacle Bay" when I already owned the first one and the bounty set. That worked on the Mac but maybe EA changed something.I'll do some testing when I'm able to take the Mac from the brat - she will fall sleep sooner or later - and let you know if I find the right Mac-way.

I've had that problem when I had the world file installed properly but not a .package or .dbc containing that little bit of info on the town that the launcher puts in the .dbc file. This is on Windows, not Mac, and the .world file was placed in the Bins folder, as it wouldn't show up when left only in Installed Worlds.

I have tried all the Hidden Spring files uploaded and I have had little success.
I had a poke on the EA forums for a poke around and a few people who have actually purchased the world are having similar problems, have you got the most updated version of the game?

I got the world uploaded, and could enter it but all the lots and sims are called ridiculous names so it's unplayable.

It's not even about playing it now it's about the challenge of getting it working!  ::)

I'll continue to play around and I'll post any developments.

Title: Re: Hidden Springs
Post by: kissing_toast on 2011 August 27, 23:03:37
I just don't understand why this is so hard. Download the world from the DL thread, I personally used the one from jenpez, run it through the decrapper and install via the launcher. It works and the lot names are normal. This isn't rocket science you tardlings. If it doesn't work you ARE doing it wrong. Is your game fully up to date? Are your decrapper files up to date? And for the Mac users, just bite the bullet and install a windows partition, chances are that if you're here your a pirate so just arr it.

Title: Re: Hidden Springs
Post by: Petit_Fromage on 2011 August 27, 23:43:00
I have never had an issue in the past ::)

I have both the most recent versions of both the decrapper and the game.
The only way I can make it run, is through downloading and placing the .world file into C:\ProgramFiles|\TheSims3\GameData\Shared\NonPackaged\Worlds
(but as I previously mentioned, although I can play the game, the lot/sims names look scripted)

Do you have any constructive suggestions?

This post may or may not be of use. It addressed some of the problems people encountered installing the Riverview world, including funny string names. I do not know if the file paths are still the same but it may provide some hints.

Quote
Here is the Riverview.world (http://www.4shared.com/file/184447839/4b10ed45/Riverview.html) file. 62MB Please use this instead of the Riverview.Sims3Pack. This file goes in: C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\GameData\Shared\NonPackaged\Worlds
Problems with Riverview saved games?
To anyone that's having trouble with playing games saved in Riverview,
Put the Riverview.world file in C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\GameData\Shared\NonPackaged\Worlds like Witch instructed.  Next, you must delete the Riverview.world file from your InstalledWorlds folder in your Documents to get it to work correctly.

To those having trouble with RiverView, try the instructions here:
http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php/topic,18408.msg535029.html#msg535029
After you install Riverview, you will find a new .dbc file in DCCache. You can rename that file to RiverView.dbc. I believe that the lack of this file has been where everyone trouble came from. I am assuming that the people having trouble didn't grab the first torrent, which had that information already in it.

I hadn't realized that I had capitalized Riverview so oddly, multiple times.  :-[

If anyone does the rename thing to the .dbc containing the world, but then still has issues, try putting it with your .package files(with the .cfg set up to read .dbc). My game was rather hit and miss on reading the renamed .dbc still in the DCCache folder. I now rename all of them and stick them with Packages. No CC star, but no issues getting them to load either.

It's no wonder you can't get it to work, you can't even figure out how to properly use the shift and apostrophe keys.

If you mean the actual waterfall part of the fountain, when it's just sitting there, then something's wrong with your game, mine shows up correctly.

I haven't looked at the Fountain of Youth object yet, but I am generally unimpressed with the neighborhood.  You kind of have to admire EA's big brass ones for charging $20 for something that pales in comparison to what cc creators generally give away for free.

Post by: Painkiller on 2011 August 30, 18:43:55
And your fountain animations are working? Sparkles and water flowing, all the jazz? I too kept the stand alone fix for the spell book installed and the fountain is dead as meat. Drinking works correctly, it's just the fountain animations that are missing.
Edit: after some more testing it turns out the fountain drinking action does works but doesn't give any moodlet/removes day. Wishing is even more broken, I get the text but no effect whatsoever. Reading Moryrie's post it seems now evident that both items are incompatible. Duh, I don't think EA will ever repair that failed bucket of water, not that I care much since the spellbook is far more awesome that this piece of crap. I first thought the book would be useless but now my gardens are filled with flamingos. :P

When I have the fountain installed (package format) the spellbook won't work. No effects from the book, and whenever a sim finishes learning a spell they are reset and don't have any spells memorized. The fountain will not reset a sim back to the YA stage no matter how many times I get the 'wish granted' moodlet. Animations and effects are all present on the fountain whether or not I have the spellbook installed.. I am not using the stand alone fix for the spellbook, because it seems to work well without it, but maybe I'll try that later.

Spellbook>Fountain though in terms of usefulness. Especially if one has Generations.

edit: Tried adding spellbook fix. Spellbook now works with fountain installed. Fountain no longer works even in the broken way it used to. No effects whatsoever, and no rollback to YA for an elder. No moodlets given either.

Incidentally, I got it to work, but it looks like command prompt was sick all over the names and lots, and it seems to be a common issue. I'm sure it's possible for me to rename everyone-- or better yet, blast the shitty lots and sims from the neighbourhood and recycle the terrain. I still don't put it past the TS3 community to be doing anything correctly though.

That happens when something is wrong with the .dbc that contains the world info. I had the issue too. I had been able to put the .dbc containing that info into my mods with the others, apparently I have forgotten how I made it work before, or it's now broken. So, the DBC containing the worlds files have to stay named whatever the launcher named it, and stay in DCCache. At least until I figure out if I can get it to work right again.  :-\

So I get the animations and sparkles but no moodlets or anything, just the pop ups. I assume drink makes you a day younger and wish makes you an age state younger? So do these work if you completely uninstall the book or is the FOY just borked? I truly feel sorry for the people that pay for this stuff.

Title: Re: Hidden Springs
Post by: Moryrie on 2011 September 07, 03:59:54
I can't get the age-state younger thing to work no matter how many wishes I use while the spellbook is uninstalled. The age-reset thing seems to work with the spellbook in place also working, as long as the fix for the spellbook is in an override folder, but again, no moodlets.

The moodlets might make the thing worth the trouble, but not if its going to continue to conflict with the spellbook. Also, decrapifying one, while having the other crapified, still results in conflicts at least for me. I've given up. The potions that came with Generations are more effective and not borked.

Ditto. I added the FOY as a decrappified package to check and finally got the fountains animations working but not the moodlets it gives nor the aging thing (I got a big nothing, not even the single day reset & moodlet) and the spellbook anims broke (no more bats flying around when you read it). I'll use the broken FOY as a money flusher. Both items must use the same GUID or whatever borkage EA managed to make. Way to go, EA.

Now that you mention it my spell book bats are gone too.

That's because you are relying on AM to fix the Spell book, put the spellbook fix back in and your spell book should work. The FOY should "work" as well, you can get a granted Wish and it will remove the days on your sim, or a failed wish will throw your sim a childish trait randomly replacing one of their others. It has to say wish was Granted or Failed, all those partially granted wishes do nothing. What stays broken with the spell book and FOY, is FOYs "drink", it will not take a day off and will not give you a moodlet, the granted wish doesn't give the moodlet either. The visuals on the FOY can at least be made to work with the spell book in.

Except that I never removed the spellbook fix, too lazy to redo that store month merge for a single file.

Ah, my mistake, I could have sworn on one of my tests with both objects that I still had the spell book ghosts ect. and the flowing water. Water I have, ghosts when the sim is learning a spell, no. Visuals when a sim is summoned are still there. The Sims aging being reduced does work still though. It took 24 "wish for" for my sim to get it though, and acquired the childish trait while she was at it. I suppose I need to keep fucking with it, the only way I've managed to get the spell book to still allow spells was by putting a copy decrapped spell book+fix, and the decrapped fountain into my overrides.

I haven't looked at the Fountain of Youth object yet, but I am generally unimpressed with the neighborhood.  You kind of have to admire EA's big brass ones for charging $20 for something that pales in comparison to what cc creators generally give away for free.

I have to agree with you there. I downloaded it and had a look, it looks like a bland and thrown together neighbourhood. The only thing I liked about it was one of the lots on the mountain that gave a really good view of the town, but apart from that, I am greatly unimpressed. I also can't understand why the lots which came with Ambitions suffer the same problems that a new Sunset Valley and Bridgeport are just thrown down and don't even face the street.

That's because the game only adds the AMB lots if you have that EP.  For people without AMB, those would be empty lots.  The game doesn't make any attempt to make the lots line up neatly; it just slaps them down in whatever slots are available and moves on.  It used to generate a game-crashing bug in Bridgeport because it would add the AMB lots to spaces that were too small for them, but I believe that has since been fixed.

You would have thought that EA would have had the sense to put lots down that they could actually fit on. I've got no problem if they aren't at the road properly, I can delete and rotate them, it's when the only lot sizes are far too large and they are swimming in a sea of grass. I prefer my lots to fit snuggly with the boarder. And 9 times out of 10, the lot placement doesn't allign with the road or you can't place them anywhere.

EA lots are generally too big anyway.  That assy movie lot is the worst offender.  The rabbit hole object itself won't fit on anything less than the second largest lot size.  Do yourself a favor and get Jinx's rabbit hole doors from MTS.  I made my own 25x25 movie lot using them.

So which file in the spell book and fountain would the conflict be in? Would that be in the DLL or an XML thing? I've been playing around with them and if I have the spell book package in my test/overrides folder it works 100% how it should, effects, moodlets and all. On the other hand, my FOY loses the effects, moodlets and the age effects. If I put the FOY in the overrides folder it's the same, works 100% how it should, effects, moodlets, all that jazz. While the book loses everything. I'm sure it's only a matter of time before someone figures this out.

*Goddamn it! I've been fucking up a lot lately.

Awesome, so what is the conflict? Is there anyway to make this a default fix like the spell book one so you don't end up with new items? The only thing I'm confused about now is, can the fountain actually make you an age state younger? I've gotten the wish granted moodlet that lasts for two days, but it didn't actually do anything.

If you get the message that actually says "Wish Granted", then your sim should be back at the start of it's age state. My YA sim with 15 days on it's age meter had those taken off by the fountain. I'm not sure about this uploaded file by Simon, but the original one that I have "working" with the spell book+fix does take off the days.

But, it says in the wish description 'so-and-so is now back in the prime of young adulthood', when they get the wish granted thing, even if they're elders or adults, and they don't actually seem to roll back.

OK so they never actually go from elder to adult for example? The wish interaction just brings you back to day 1 of whatever age state you're in? That's lame.

I have just used the FOY on adults and expected that they would roll back to being at the beginning of the young adult stage. However, they just roll back to the beginning of the adult stage. The wish does say, "Young adult stage", so I've been wondering if the fountain is indeed conflicting w/the spellbook in my game as well.

No, but you will end up with two of each item.

Okay, I have been trying to get this world loaded for quite some time now. My object .package file is in my mod folder and my .world file is in my Sims 3 , non package file under programs. But yet I still keep getting this message every time I load.

Tried putting .world file in installed world file along with other two locations, that did nothing to fix the problem.

Any suggestions?

That's not true. The game places the lots in specific positions and rotations. These can be altered by editing the "AutoVenuePlacement.xml," which looks something like this:

Code:
<HiddenSprings>
  <Venu_Name>kEP2_ConsignmentStore</Venu_Name>
  <Lot_Id>1614540730735267984</Lot_Id>
  <Lot_Rotation>270</Lot_Rotation>
 </HiddenSprings>
<HiddenSprings>
  <Venu_Name>kEP2_FireStation</Venu_Name>
  <Lot_Id>1614540730735267968</Lot_Id>
  <Lot_Rotation>90</Lot_Rotation>
 </HiddenSprings>
<!-- etc. -->
