Title: Things NEVER done on Sims 3?
Post by: lolbadlol on 2010 December 13, 02:33:34
Hello!
I'm pretty new to this game and forum and I was wondering what things would the Sims 3 community be interested in having?
I'm a coder and I want to contribute my skills and I was just wondering what things you would all LOVE to have/use?
I'm willing to code a few things, so give me some things you guys have never seen done before and want!
:)

No need to flame, troll.
If you're not interested, don't bother posting.
I'm simply asking what the community has never seen done to this game and what they would like to see... Perhaps I can provide those requests.
I've had success in other games, thought I'd try my luck here.
Thanks.

I hope this whole forum isn't filled with immature users, such as these two.
I asked a simple question. I didn't come here to get flamed.
Just want some insights into what you all might like to see, hack-wise.
If anyone wants to contribute, please do so. Otherwise, please don't troll by flaming.

This isn't trolling, sweetie.  If you'd have bothered to read this forum for any period of time, you'd have noticed that we flame people like you who make stupid posts happily.  And anyway, I thought the point of modding was what YOU found lacking in the game, not other people.  Look, if we want something mod-wise, we ask Pescado for it, not some some noob modder.

If you wanted to be believable, you should have chosen a different name. It's difficult to put on the reasonable act when your username includes "LOL" not once, but twice. Besides, if you were really curious what players wanted, you would have checked out the AM request thread.

How was that a stupid post? I was simply asking what users WANTED to be done. What they DESIRED.
And who said I was a noob? Come see me on other games, I've coded multiple things for other games with actual cheat clients. Don't speak unless you truly know my history.
And who cares what my username is. It wouldn't allow me to register with my original username so I just typed in anything. My username is not my life, nor do I care what it is or stands for. Don't judge me on the name I decide to enter for a forum.

Oh, hell we're going to judge you on your username.  I mean, how much is there that we can judge you on?  We don't know you, and we don't like you.  Furthermore, you don't need to know someone's history to say someone is an idiot or noob.  Since you've apparently never modded for the Sims before, the label "noob" is quite accurate.  Also, how the hell do we know how good a modder you are?  We don't KNOW you.  Lastly, it would have been much better if you had just searched for what was out there, and if you didn't see something you wanted, you could have written that mod for yourself.
PS:  DON'T DOUBLE POST YOU TARD.

I don't understand what was hard about just listing a few things that would further benefit users.
Also, I've modded for other games, not only coded, but yes, modded. And far more advanced modding.
Give me a couple things and I'll look into them. And you'll see how "good" I am. If I wasn't able to do it, big whoop, what did you lose? Absolutely nothing.

How about some freaky mod like 'Blow the candles'...only it aint a candle!  :o
And maybe put it in 'Friendly' actions so it could be for 'friends with benefits' kind of sim relationships.
And if your sim blows out your bosses candle, your sim gets a raise and a promotion.

Or...

whatever tickles your fancy.

Thank you! Finally a contribution to the thread.
I was just wondering, are there any delays or timers in this game?
I know you have to wait a few days to grow things, etc... are there any mods available that take away those delays/timers? If not, I can look into those.

Um. Did you just pick a game at random to start modding for? Call me cray-cray, but I think most people really wait until they understand how the game works or read up on it before they start modding for it.

No, I already know there are timers. I should have rephrased my question.
I was just wondering if there was a mod available to take those timers off. That's a better question.

You've just wandered into a forum dedicated to one modders creations. It is a specialist forum, but has one rule that is in common with most other forums.

READ THE FUCKING FAQ.

Why are you offering us candy Mr Bad Loser? Pescado offers us explosions and cake. If you want to go play in a paddling pool head over to MTS.

Ignore the sporks, I think folks have gone a bit spork-happy lately.

I have something I'd like to see in game. Awesomemod is a core mod, so there can be only one, but many other things can be done with xml and stuff. (Make 'stuff' stand for all the things I don't understand).

Well, in awesomemod Pescado has made it a possibility that lesbian couples could go to the science building and become artificially pregnant, only of course they can only have girls. Without removing the core mod, I would love for all my same sex couples, male or female, to be able to go to the science building and get one (or both) of them pregnant with either gender of baby.

I don't know your programming capabilities, but I remember once a guy just arrived out of the blue and handed us a compression program, I think it was. It even impressed Pescado, so I don't discount anything.

I've been wanting to request something in particular but it always seems like asking too much of someone. This post however, seems like the perfect opportunity

I recently uninstalled World Adventures, and one of the few things I sincerely miss are the food registers. I was hoping that food options from the LN bars could be added to the Ambitions register (not the consignment store one, the decorative one) so that I could create restaurants again.

Okay, a word to previous posters in this thread:  MATY has never been exclusively devoted to Pescado's work.  He's the boss and the main man, but other modders have had their own sections in the past and Pudding Factory is still up and running (as is Peasantry, for that matter.)  There's no reason to run somebody off just because they're not Pescado and want to contribute to the Pudding, and no reason to assume that someone who's not already intimately familiar with the game has nothing worthwhile to offer.  We've seen valuable tools come from drive-by non-Simmers before.

Hello!
I'm pretty new to this game and forum and I was wondering what things would the Sims 3 community be interested in having?

If you're serious, and not completely alienated by the reception thus far (gotta say, you made an unfortunate choice for the first place to post such a query, but kudos if you stick with your ambitions anyway) then you might consider looking into the game's horrible, lousy, worthless outdoor lighting and seeing if you can tweak it so Sims don't look ghastly when they step out the door.  Or figure out how to create animated foliage without resorting to a program that costs thousands of dollars.  Or come up with a TS3 version of Pescado's old Hackdiff program (Google for explanation, I'm having trouble describing what it did succinctly.)  Or look into what causes certain custom files to break without explanation and hang up the game, and fix it so the game either loads them properly or skips them instead of trying to load them tens of thousands of times.  Or enable tooltips in Create-A-Sim, or make it possible to delete custom content from within the game, or add an option to skip loading a particular game and go straight into Create-A-Sim from the main menu...I'm sure I could think of more if you want it.

It should go without saying anything you make needs to be compatible with AwesomeMod, and preferably also with Twallan's NRAAS series of mods, which are also widely used.

Hey, you should check AM requests thread under Awesome Mod section. There's plenty of sheeps asking Pescado to tweak some things up. Meanwhile, can you try to remove those cutesy sparkles when building walls? Or ALL sparkles in the game because I palmed every time I saw it.

I think HP's texture replacers (http://modthesims.info/download.php?t=425036) might be what you're looking for. That's the combined package, but she's got links to the individual ones on the off chance you want some sparkles gone and not others.

Have you searched MTS?  I know there was a mod to remove the build sparkles, I have it and it still works fine, even though it was released way back with the base game many patches ago.

Actually, here is a link http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=343257

I'm with the Witch on this one, I'd like to see same sex couples/men being able to get pregnant. This is already done on a different core mod, with options as to which sim, dominate or passive, gets pregnant. It also has options like if you want men to get pregnant in a straight relationship as well. And since "THERE CAN ONLY BE ONE,"  I currently don't use Awesomemod. So if there was something like this that was compatible with Awesomemod that would be...awesome.

Ok, you know what, I get Ambular and Witch's points that we shouldn't crush budding modding spirit under our jaded sporkfists, but this poster is going about it all wrong. It obviously hasn't read the FAQ or lurked at all to gain an idea of what MATY is like. It double posts, has an aversion to paragraphs, and CAN'T EVEN FIND THE CLEARLY LABELLED AWESOMEMOD REQUESTS THREAD ON ITS OWN. I mean really, talk about lazy. Plus, it seems an arrogant little thing. I don't see why it should be sporked any less than the next random noob, just on the off chance it might produce a mod one day.

Presumably a simple mod: make rabbit hole objects have a non-zero cost; I suspect it's to avoid allowing users to simply drop a new store down to increase a property's value (which is stupid, if true, because one can just hide a bunch of expensive crap in a closed basement to the same effect), but the notion of being able to drop a new 4-storey building down on any community lot, at zero cost simply grates on my nerves.... even if I have never had much reason to use such a thing myself.

@Ambular; Do you have any more general ideas? I'm not really looking into too many specific things, such as fixing specific textures, etc. I'm looking to work on things more like no delays for the timers in the game, or adding a way to skip screens straight to the Create-a-Sim screen, etc.

If anyone could add more general (not specific)requests, I'll definitely look into those.
If you have any specific requests, if they are productive and efficient to other users, I'll look into those, as well!
Thanks!

A simple browse of the forum, something that would have taken a couple of minutes, would have yielded some interesting things, most notably 2 threads that would have been better places for your original post.  Then again, within the 2 threads, the lame request and AM request threads, you could have found what people are asking for, gone away, made the mod, then come back and posted it, and made known that you do requests.  Much better than starting a new thread in an inappropriate place.

Where would you propose to subtract funds from for these buildings?   Then again, when you actually buy the lot in-game, you are paying for it, so whats the problem?  This is only a game afterall, and not real life.

No need to twist me words...
I was just looking for more general ideas, instead of ideas dealing with small, specific things in the game such as rabbit holes.
I'm just looking for anything that can be beneficial to users, instead of small tweaks that make the game look "prettier".
You didn't need to take my content and make it sound bad, btw lol

@Ambular; Do you have any more general ideas? I'm not really looking into too many specific things, such as fixing specific textures, etc. I'm looking to work on things more like no delays for the timers in the game, or adding a way to skip screens straight to the Create-a-Sim screen, etc.

If anyone could add more general (not specific)requests, I'll definitely look into those.
If you have any specific requests, if they are productive and efficient to other users, I'll look into those, as well!
Thanks!

If you find the atmosphere here too toxic (and you'd hardly be the first!) modthesims.info is a good alternative.  As for other general ideas...how about enabling save game from build or buy mode, or adding a way to change or kill the background music in the load screens and CAS?

I don't know your programming capabilities, but I remember once a guy just arrived out of the blue and handed us a compression program, I think it was. It even impressed Pescado, so I don't discount anything.
Yeah, but he came in and gave us the shiny, proving he had skills. This one says is has modded for other games but gives us no proof, and displays a lack of understanding as to how TS3 or the Sims modding community works. It has broken the cardinal rule: Show, don't tell.

I'd like to see a simple family tree editor, one that lets me edit their family lines even with the deceased ones. All I have now is AM's genealogy tab, but that requires both sims to be alive, and works only for parent/child and sibling relationships. I'd like to be able to build a whole family tree in one sitting, without switching to another sim.

Parent/child and sibling relationships are the only formal relationships that actually exist in the game. All other relationships are procedurally derived from these.

NEVER done in *any* of the Sims games...

It has always been a pet beef of mine that the in game radios/stereo/DJ booth/TVs are so limited in their choices of content. Not the "what" of the content, but the "where"... as in Hard Drive directory/folder. I have all my media files on my M:\<MEDIA> drive. Having to make copies of it on my P:\<Personal> drive is wasteful and infuriating. I should be able to tell the in game media players where my content already is rather than being forced to move/copy it over.

I have looked in my OS's registry hoping that I might find a media pointer value that I could edit, but no. So I am guessing that it is hard-coded into the game. Which makes me further guess that this would require a hacked, buy-able game-object.

One possible stumbling block... *IF* EA is following proper programming/security guidelines (BWAHAHAHAHA), then the game should not have any access outside of it's own directory structures. Perhaps this is why someone has not yet made this mod already.

The Twallanian Woohooer allows this, last time I checked.

It's also compatible with AM. Twallan's Woohooer is pretty nice, actually. There's a tuning file you can download to tweak it to your liking.

Yea I know, I just don't like the extra pie menus Twallan's mods add. It is better than nothing I suppose, since he does update rather quickly.

In TS2 I used an app called Junction Link Magic. There is a post here (http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php/topic,8614.msg237831.html#msg237831) that explains how to use it for TS2. I don't suppose it is that different for TS3.

Yeah, the pie menus are the only real downside for me. All of his mods seem to do it, so once you get more than one in there, it starts getting pretty cluttered.

Ahhh, well that is nice, but it doesn't completely cover what I want. Which is understandable since I didn't fully state what I wanted. (due to net yet having my full coffee quotient for the day) Sorting my music into separate genre folders is unacceptable as well. Make the radio read the MP3 tags and auto-sort by genre.  By god this is a computer! IT should be doing the work, not I. Plus have a setting so that it only plays 4 or 5 star rated music, which is once again read from the MP3 file.   (I'm an archivist type, I have a lot of tunes, not all of which I want in game)

It's just possible that you're Weird and Cannot Be Helped.

(Or as a very odd man I once met at a party told me -- after showing me his portfolio of photographs of naked women covered in melted wax -- "Nobody out there was making porn for my fetishes, so I had to learn how to do it myself.")

I kinda get that though, because if you use iTunes, you don't have genre subfolders, the file itself gets a genre tag and the iTunes program categorizes music automagically.

Yeah, I had guessed that I would have to learn all of this, meshing, Lua, etc... Not only for my own wants but for the friend that I mentioned in another thread that is facing down the fireball. Fortunately I've been a geek for about 39 years now, so I guess I no longer have any excuse to avoid diving into this arena.

Any chance of getting a copy of the (I presume heavily annotated/commented) de-compiled source, Pes?  Inge? Anyone?

Well I just found out the maker of the"Extended Game Core" over at MTS is giving up on up keeping that mod so it looks like I'll be going on over to Nraas.
