Title: AM is Borking Vampires.
Post by: magicalnessa on 2010 November 17, 17:17:47
I RFTM and I checked the config. However, other than Vampire Skilling, the manual said nothing about them. Once I install AM, the normal debuff Burning Up from staying out in the sun happens AS SOON AS I LEAVE A BUILDING, and continues to tick, even in cars. Before AM, it would take like three hours before the Burning Up Moodlet occurred, then another 3 hours until Burning Up would turn into Too Much Sun. And it also seemed to not tick in cars, but I can't be sure because I couldn't have the minute-by-minute moodlet update. Did we mean to bork this or didn't we?

My guess would that you're playing a VAMPIRE and VAMPIRES DO NOT BELONG OUT IN THE SUN.

I use AM and play a vampire in Bridgeport who doesn't burn as soon as she steps out on the street or on her balcony to paint. You have a borkness.

No, both of you are observing a phenomenon that makes perfect sense and is definitely a feature. The time it takes for a vampire to start burning is now variable and depends on some very obvious factors. It works this way in real life, too.

I did notice that if I bring up the SHIFT+CTRL debug menu and go to occult, service NPCs are suddenly all shown as already being vampire, although they are not actually vampires. Has anyone else got this issue?

Nope. That's also a dodgy EA command of dubious reliability, so I wouldn't trust what it says too much.

Well, I finally played with one of them vampire sims...and honestly, he didn't burn up fast enough, if you ask me...I've now got little vampire babies and toddlers and children all over Bridgeport... I realize EA doesn't want the game all that macabre, but there really ought to be more than one way to kill them and they really should be able to drain and thus kill (not just drink from or turn) sims.

Also, the genetics seem skewed - he fathered 7 children before his 'untimely demise' and all 7 are vampires. None of the mothers are - I assumed (obviously incorrectly) that there would be a 50/50 chance of vampirism in his offspring born of normal females...joke's on me. So given that the only mod I use in game is AM - will these offspring who have 50% vampire genetics, but are in fact vampires, what are the odds their children will be vampires if they mate with a 'normal' sim?  I'm suspecting that the vampiric gene is dominant.

The good news is that at least they don't sparkle. I think we may have been given the 'True Blood' version of vampires as opposed to the 'Twilight' version. yay.

That's okay, but I WANTED the "Bloodsucking Fiends" version.

Tried several times to replicate the problem that I couldn't stop from happening before, and it's not going through. My only guess is that for a period, all of my vamps needed SPF 1,000. I just hulk smashed all my saved and now they're doing OK.

Till the masses of lil girls demand that a mod be made to add the eye candy sparkle to vampires.
I fear for the sims. I really do.

I don't see that happening. The producers themselves appear to be firmly anti-Sparklepire.

The -only- reason to use sparkle and vampire in the same setting is to poke fun at the idiots who think vampires are all sparkle-fluffy-bunny-happy.  I have no real objection to romantic goth vampires, that's actually been around longer then me, so its got longevity now.  But Vampires DO NOT FUCKING SPARKLE!  They are not unicorns, they are blood sucking monsters who may embrace this fact, or angst over it and try to retain their humanity, but they are not rays of sunshine.

That said, I've not seen a problem with them having sun issues, but then, I run with static motives since I find trying to keep their needs met tedious and dull.

Please.. do not request that Vampires be sparkly! God no, I prefer my Vampires to be the way they are. NON SPARKLY! Twilight lovers should run over to BBS or MTS to ask for that.

By the way, what was EA sniffing when they made the Eye Candy reward for Lifetime Happiness? Most useless feature ever.

Any requests for sparkly vampires will be mocked or ignored. Vampires Do Not Sparkle.

Title: Re: AM is Borking Vampires.

The only time a Vampire should sparkle is when they burst into flames as soon soon as they step outside in daylight.

Well, some vampires are more resistant to burning than others, in the current AwesomeMod. I challenge you to figure out how it works and which ones will burn faster than the others.

Without doing any testing or observing at all, I'll guess that vamps who EAT PEOPLE as opposed to juice boxes will take more sun damage.

I reckon the amount of (pixel) melanin in the skin will be a big factor.

I was thinking it would be vampires who had recently eaten who would be less harmed by the sun, but of course I have done no testing on this yet.  For some reason, actually playing a vampire hasn't really compelled my interest yet.

Surely it is more fun watching the sparkling ones burst into flames?  Watching them burn is the whole point of having sparkly!vamps at all.

As I am not a Twilight fan in any way, I have only hearsay to go by, but didn't the author make them sparkly in sun as opposed to burning up in sun? So operating on that assumption, one would assume a vampire could sparkle OR burn up in sunlight...not both.

And while I do follow True Blood and obviously see the similarity (the plasma juice boxes are a lame version of the bottled artificial blood in that show)...I honestly have decided that the vampires in game are just not all that fun...as Jolrei pointed out - the bloodsucking fiends version where there could be actual death from a vampire bite would be better, but I get why EA did things this way - we wouldn't want to scare the kiddies...so we get 'vampire-lite'.

Or have Grand Vampires go on a biting rampage to turn half of the customers on a community lot into vampires before dawn.

No, that part was stupid and we got rid of it with Awesomeware. Besides, that sort of happens anyway...only now, the sims turning into vampires never get bitten by anything at all, they just suddenly turn into vampires like it's some sort of strange, contagious disease.

Can there be zombies in TS3? I want them to run around wreaking havoc on the poor unsuspecting Sims AND vampires? I miss Zombie Apocalypse.

The whole bursting into flames thing isn't mythical, so I have no problem with them just being weak and miserable in sunlight.....  But sparkles >.> *shudders* Ick

I was fully prepared to go on a blood sucking rampage until I found out you have to get friendly with the victim and then ask them if you can bite them.  A bear doesn't ask you if it can eat you before it eats you.

EXACTLY!  They ought to at least be able to bite/drink from whatever random stranger they encounter in order to survive...

But considering that I played one of them for only a couple days and he managed make something like 6 or 7 vampire babies, that particular instance of Bridgeport is pretty much vampire central now. I haven't been playing that fambly for a while now...just don't want to deal.

I kinda miss the 'bleh'...it was stupid in a Mel Brooks kind of stupidly funny way...or maybe that's just me?

Quite so.  I was hoping you'd get on with it, myself.  Dark Trepie is the only vampire in my Twinbrooks hood, and he does nothing except work and collapse on the floor.  No vampires populate the vampire lounge, and certainly nobody is drinking anyone else (at least not in the vampire way, to my knowledge).  Perhaps if I have Dark Trepie buy the vampire lounge, it would at least lend some credence to the name.

This appears to be a problem with everyone.  It's frighteningly common for me to switch to another household and find everyone passed out in a puddle of their own pee and starving.  There's a couple in my current Bridgeport stuck in an eternal "Tour City Hall" with "Expire" in their queue.

Have you ever actually toured City Hall? I mean the real one in your own town? That's a feature, not a bug.

I hate both twilight and true blood.. if it weren't obvious by my name, I'm an Anne Rice vampire fan.  I prefer the old pile of dust as soon as they hit the sun vampires, where only the ancients who are over 1,000 years old can tolerate it.  So yea.. i pretty much hate everything about the Late Night Vamps, lol.  It gave me something to do though.. I went and downloaded some weapons from MTS and went on a shooting spree, cleansing Bridgeport of all the fairy vampires (aside from the mixologists for plasma that keep respawning.. I may have to burn that building down to completely eradicate them).

All is right in the world! ^_^

The only thing impressive about Anne Rice's vamps is that she managed to take her head out of her ass long enough to write umpteen novels about her beloved Mary Sue, Lestat.

Not true! She said sometime before, maybe multiple times, that Lestat was based on herself... or her alter ego. Therefor she was writing umpteen novels about herself. =)

Either way, i'm a fan of the books, not the lady. Head up her ass or not, the woman is a great storyteller.

Lestat is a whiney emo. The only book he's good in is the first one, and that's before you know he's a whiney emo, because you think he's a psychopath instead.

Some people do like to read about other people's Mary Sues, which is why it's still feasible to churn them out. Heck, some Mary Sues can even be enjoyable to those of us who don't normally like Sues, if they are done particularly well or at the very least are doing interesting things. I don't recall Lestat really fitting either criteria (at least after the first book).

But I admit that I also liked Lestat / Anne Rice as a 12. And I also have an internet handle (in other places, didn't dare use it here :P) that stuck because of it. Fortunately, I eventually grew out of it.

Urge to buy Late Night decreasing. DX

I loathe breeding vampires. They're undead ffs, they can't have babies.

And aren't they more likely to bite someone expendable who they don't know than bite a friend and risk killing them?

So funny how the babymaking is always what people get hung up about. Why shouldn't they be able to breed when they can walk, talk, and do all kinds of other crap? Infertility seems a bit too convenient and is far too often used as a cheap source of wangsting, because omg you can't be happy without ze babbys. I'd rather see a vampire wangst about how annoying it is to use rubber for hundreds of years because they don't want babbys and STDs still itch, and how that time with the syphilis was especially bad.

Ramble aside, there are other things to LN than the vampires. Like, empty clubs, for instance. And boring bands that don't really get any gigs. >_>

Stuff is borked, but I still kind of like it. I must be a glutton for punishment. Or maybe I just have too much faith that Awesomemod will eventually fix everything.

Empty clubs should be somewhat reduced with the removal of the DDoS factor where club visitor slots were being DDoSed with randomly selected visitors who are not actually allowed in the club.
