Title: Red World
Post by: littleblackdog on 2010 September 15, 17:24:56
Has anyone else seen anything like this? I have installed Fastlane and all the required patches.  This is without any CC or Mods except Awesomemod.  My saved game is playable but the lighting and colors appear borked, flat, greenish, and odd reflections. When I open a new game, this is what I get.  I have tried deleting game cache files and updating my drivers.  No luck

I'm guessing video card failure.

I am not looking for guesswork.  Either you have seen it before and know something about it or you haven't.  Trying to up you post count?

I'm pretty sure I recall seeing a picture like that before on these forums. Did you check all your video drivers were updated?

Updating my video drivers was the first thing I did. I too recall seeing a picture like this before, but I have not been able to find a solution.  I also tried  replacing Shaders_Win32.precomp file in the game bin.

Any particular reason you didn't do the first thing you should do when a fresh install of something doesn't work properly?

You do need more than 1GB of RAM to run the game and expansions/stuff packs. I needed more than 2GB, had to install a large address aware program to make the game recognize all 4GB installed on my computer.

You might need to get an upgrade on your video card. I had the 8400GS and upgraded to a 9500GT for better performance. Improved the rendering much better.

I looked up my DirectX version on my computer, I have 11. You may need to update that too.

I started having problems after update 1.12.

I have been running the game and expansion packs okay.  This happened after I had been playing Fast Lane for a day.   I  have uninstalled FL and it did not help.  I will update my directX.  I am still running on XP and my understanding is I do not need LAA unless I have more than 3 gigs of ram.

You still haven't quite gotten the idea.

When an install messes things up...you should...? Come on, you can figure it out!

What the Shouty Vole is subtly hinting to is doing a reinstall.

I knew what the vole was referring too,  I was tired of guessing games.   I have uninstalled Fast Lane and am still getting red neighborhood.  I was certainly hoping to not have to reinstall everything, but it is looking like I might have to do that.  Both my HELS and FL are arrr'd.  Could they have gotten corrupted somehow by the patches?  To be honest, when it first showed up, I had used the EA launcher to check updates.  My paranoia set in and I thought about the red dye packs they use to foil bank robbers.  LOL!  Damn EA!!

dude, fucking hell

REINSTALL means "uninstall everything and RE-INSTALL"

Not "Uninstall fast lane".

I know what you meant, bootlicker!

If something goes wrong when patching a game, then yes, it could get corrupted (I had such problem with Neverwinter Nights 2, when upon patching half NPCs didn't display in the game, I had to reinstall the game and patch it again). Doubt it has anything to do with the game being arrr'd, since game files on your computer are the same.

I did have problems when I was patching HEL.  The dreaded "invalid file". There does not seem to be a quick fix for the red neighborhood problem.  Later on today I will do a complete uninstall and reinstall.   I was sure hoping to avoid that.

In Soviet Russia, red game plays you?

Seriously, using the EA Launcher to patch booty is not a particularly good idea. It's not such a great idea for legitimately purchased copies either, for that matter.

Boy that is the truth.  This red game has sure been playin' me.   I have found the patch updater at MTS, and will be using that for my reinstalls.  I don't know what I was thinking.

That's the problem, you weren't.
