Title: Stupid Sims 3 patch
Post by: IAmTheRad on 2010 July 08, 20:16:14
EA broke too many things last time so they released a patch that breaks more things. I suggest you wait to patch until Pescado updates AwesomeMod.

The patch is 1.14/2.9/3.5/4.2

Apparently fixes CAW.

Search MOAR and you'll notice that it doesn't fix CAW. >_<

I never patch until AM is updated. I'm not surprised the patch has issues. EA can't seem to fix anything without breaking other things in the process.

Exact version numbers only. Can't update without an exact version number.

Not happy Jan! Automatic updates are off and I thought I had EA well and truly internet banned only to start my game this evening and find if had patched itself. Bastard thing has never done that before. Think I've found all the new EA tendrils in my PC but still not happy.

TS3 ver 0.2.0.104
WA ver 0.2.0.98
HELS ver 0.2.0.98
Amb ver 0.2.0.104

These were taken by checking the properties of the executables. Am I doing that right? I'm not usually the one here posting version inf.
I must be doing that wrong.

Ive just updated my game and it seems at least one of my active sims has vanished. Like he never existed....

Just saw this was listed to be "fixed" in the patch notes. However, i never had the issue until the patch. Same thing happened when they were meant to fix the always running issue, until that patch I had never experienced the issue. So I think they should substitute the word "fixed" to "Broke" whenever they release a new patch.

Agreed! I never had the running issue for actives or inactives, now the little pixels are running all over the town since updating. Very irritating.

I also do not recall ever, ever getting auto updates, but apparently the game decided at a random point to do it itself.

It's actually pretty convenient, because it worked flawlessly despite the fact that I'm pretty sure I had invalid tslhost.dll files and had to replace with the backups, but it's a bit freaky that the launcher apparently opened and activated itself and downloaded updates without me noticing.

Has anyone here patched and managed to get CAW to work?  I know the forum at TheSims3 is full of people who say it hasn't worked, but I'm not convicted it isn't just user error.  That place is full of whiny 6's and 12's who can't even tie their shoes.  I thought I'd give it a shot myself, but I'm curious if anyone here has also tried.

I am getting an "Attempted to read write protected memory" error, it says it may be a sign that other memory is corrupt. THe game is working fine, though, so I'm not sure what it's talking about.

Has anyone complaining of CAW being broken still actually reinstalled it? I haven't seen anyone say they have.

Edit: Okay...apparently the launcher was lying before? It no longer says I have the most recent patch. But it also says my game is up to date and won't let me update from the launcher. :\

As well, using the patch links in this thread, I am told I have the wrong versions for Base and WA, which confuses the hell out of me, since they've always been "1" before.

Launcher says:
Base- 1.12.70.006017 (Shouldnt it end in 1 or 2?)
WA- 2.7.7.006002 (Why does this one end in 2?)
HELS- 3.3.11.006001 (This one ends in 1, and the patch works for it.)
Ambitions- Something ending in 1, havne't tried yet.

Why are these so inconsistent? Whats up with the base number?

I guess I've gotta full reinstall. Ffffff.

Not here, but yes, I have read through all the comments on TheSims3 that have come in since yesterday (Pity me) and many have tried reinstalling.  The only 2 people who said theirs are working do not have the last 2 patches.

Patched, and then I sent a pair of my sims to France and everything was working fine. I saved while they were there and went back the next day to continue. Now, every time I try to do anything quest-related (give mineral to sim, ask sim out on date for someone else), my sim resets and teleports to wherever they were before I requested that command. I took AM out and disabled all custom content and it still does it.

*Repeated headdesk* >:(

So from the patch notes "The "Intrigued by Great Lecture" moodlet now has an icon" Does this mean that the great lecture repeating forever and borking romance and funny socials is also fixed? I see no mention of it but it seems odd to only fix the icon.

World Adventures ending in 2 is normal. That's how mine is. My base game is region 1, as are HELS and Ambitions (both Vitality) but World Adventures (Reloaded) is region 2. So I have to get the region 2 patch for WA and region 1 patches for everything else.

Fish just happened to be what the spinner landed on when EA decided what to break in their next patch. Unfortunately for EA they are the only people that fail at purposely breaking things so it fixed itself.

I think they changed the lighting a bit more in this one.

My sims' roof appears to be way, way shinier and more reflective (Green Scalloped). The indoor lighting looks a tiny bit different (last time lighting changed, objects made more appropriate shadows indoors instead of just blobs. They look even better now.), and I think the windows are less horrible.

Arg

Tried to update my basegame, but it tells me: "The setup has detected that the installed game region for this update is incorrect"

Sigh, now I have to hunt down the basegame?

Worst part is, after installing the latest patch, because it keeps telling me the basegame needs to be patched, the launcher freezes and wont load at all.

Alright managed to get the patch to work, but launcher is still being a bit iffy with me, it keeps whining about EA Download manager, and can freeze because of it sometimes, but it worksn other occasions.

This has happened to me before, not just with fishing though. Sometimes it affects the fridge, or bookshelves. It either corrects itself after a couple of sim days, or you have to abandon the family and start over.

Have an old question:

For example, I have my game on version 1.12/2.7/4.0... soon, I'll have to update it, when the time comes, do I have yo update base game, WA and AMB by each one... or the patch will just work over the AMB version? I know the question is kind ridiculous... but when I need to patch I always have problems with WA. Don't know why, because since the last three patches, I stopped cracking the games, so I have the original exe files in my game...

Yeah, no thanks.  Don't want/need to let EA do their funny business on my computer.  My launcher isn't allowed to contact the interwebs, and in fact is never even opened(I run straight from the ts3ep02.exe, or whatever it's called).

The patcher utility Pescado is probably referring to is here: http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=409829

It will automatically detect if a patch is available for each version and region of the game you have installed, but it's a lot more transparent than the EA launcher in that you can see what it is doing and it won't download or install anything unless you tell it to.

The launcher doesn't always patch every game you have.  It may patch the base game and AMB, but not WA and HELS.  The best option is to manually download the patches form the many location with them, or use one of the non-EAxis patch programs available.  There are a couple mention in different threads here.

Title: Re: Stupid Sims 3 patch
Post by: Claeric on 2010 July 11, 04:15:49
If you must use the launcher, open it repeatedly until it no longer says there are patches. It will not always fully patch. Then open each launcher from each game/bin folder you have, as different ones will work differently and display different information. Do this until hovering over each icon in the corner displays the proper version number.

But then again, there should be no reason you must use the launcher.

Thanks Azureale.  I ran the version that Rubyelf suggested and can now successfully open my launcher but it comes up with an error message:

"It looks like you have installed an unofficial game modification that does not match your current version of the Sims 3.  We recommend that you either uninstall these game modifications or get updated versions of them - otherwise you may experience crashes or significant bugs.  Do you want to quit?"

I notice that on page 1 of this thread, the patch is slightly different with a '6001' and '7001' at the end of both strings instead of '2' which is in the string which I ran.  Should I install the patch on the first page as well?

How would I uninstall a patch if it were necessary?

At this stage I am quitting until I get verification from someone that it is okay to continue.

Thanks

It just means update your mods. Or if you updated them then update your game to match them since mods will usually be created and updated for the most recent version of the game.

Also if you are that timid and need that much reassurance and hand holding then maybe you really shouldn't be using mods.

Well the problem is if you haven't patched, and I can't quite make out from the replies whether you did or not (maybe the launcher did it in the background?) then you will still have problems.  Awesomemod is generally always meant to be run with the latest version of the game.

If you still run into problems with your current configuration after updating awesomemod today then try using this utility from Mod The Sims http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=409829

It will check your game version, see if you are up to date and if not locate patches from the base game and all expansions and stuff packs. You then should download and install them.

After patching my game (I have base, WE, and Ambitions) to the latest patch manually (the launcher didn't even detect the new version), every time I load a game or start a new world, it loads normally then stalls at about 95% of the loading progress bar. I've seen posts where people described the same problem. Reinstalling didn't help, could this be related to custom content?

I used to patcher off of mod the sims, and it patched everything up to the newest versions, except world adventures. The 2.7.7.006002 to 2.9.10.007002 patch fails at 99% because it claims the TS3EP01.exe is invalid  ???. Does anyone happen to have a non invalid 2.7 executable? I never touched the executable, so I don't know how it could be broken other than eaxis breaking it themselves.

According to the official site the launcher will always patch only the base game and the most recent EP or SP. This makes me wonder whether manually patching the other expansions nevertheless is actually a good or necessary thing.
I am asking myself this also because upgrading to Ambitions has borked more things in WA than just the excavation sites when on vacation as I have now been lucky to discover after playing France last night (see the What's borked thread). But as I am on a Mac I cannot update manually anyway at the moment as I haven't found a manual download on simsprograms yet. (Are there other sites, btw?)

The solution to the launcher not even showing the update is to update the Download Manager.

That may be an unrelated issue. Try temporarily removing or disabling all your mods and custom content and seeing if it will load. If not then try a new game (again without custom content and mods).

If you get the game to load in those instances it's likely some old mod or downloaded content causing the issue.

In theory, you shouldn't explicitly need old episodes patched as long as the base game and most recent episode are.

Just wanted to mention how much I love you sick twisted bastards. EA latest patched utterly fucked my game. Couldn't get it to work was getting the "base game is not compatible blah.." even trying to install the other patches didn't work. However the patch utility talked about above from mod the sims worked perfectly. Its fixed now. Apparently the launcher had decided that to delete some of WA updates. Consider yourselves happy, people. I can`t even patch. I`m getting an "invalid file found" crap every single fucking time. -_-

Fun facts - I`m doing a manual installation, AMB, HELS and WA patched w/o any problems, and I`m not using cracked .exe or .dll files (AM is just fine, thankyouverymuch). Never had patching issues before (as in - never), so where the hell is this patch pulling that invalid file from? And it`s so fast, I can`t even SEE which file it`s referring to. I just might uninstall this game and leave it like that. More free space on my HDD, less nervous breakdowns.

Thanks for feeling me like a 12, EA. No, really...

I found that too until I downloaded the utility. My game didn't like the version of the patch I was using (I had ignored a patch and was therefore trying to use the link patch and a bridging patch). The utility found me a single patch file that my game sucked happily right up.

That's the widget. My game simply didn't like an older WA patch and it was the whole problem with me getting Awesome to work after my game self-patched Ambitions. That auto-patcher utility grabbed exactly the patch my game was lacking and downloaded it on request. I crossed my fingers and ran the executable and 'et wala ce manifique (as my grandfather used to say) away I went back to a game that worked (or some semblance there-of).

Keep in mind that if you are reinstalling, that anything you changed before uninstalling will *still be there* and cause invalid file issues. I don't think a lot of people realize that uninstalling doesn't remove altered files, you have to do that yourself afterward.

I made a stupid mistake and I'll have to uninstall WA, then AMB and then the patch... will I lose my CC? How can I evite it? Backing up before uninstalling and then replacing after installing will help?

I am going to be blunt and say from reading your other posts, your lack of ability to find such information which already exists here and elsewhere coupled with the kind of in depth, For Dummies, simplistic yet detailed hand holding help you seem to require you are probably better suited going elsewhere like Mod the Sims.

Start here: http://www.modthesims.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:TS3_Uninstall

That's the Uninstall section. Read through the part about backing up your files and how to restore them later when you reinstall, then read through the clean uninstall process, then pick the version you will be running (ie which expansions and patch) and read through 'after the uninstall I want to reinstall with expansion packs' section and then finally the installing package files section and subsections.

Yes it's a lot of information so take the time to read through it and clearly understand it. Then make sure you follow all their instructions.

And if you have questions ask someone at Mod the Sims. :P They have to be nice to you. Niceness is enforced there even for those who need, shall we say, extra help.

Alll my upgrades seem to work, why will they not fail.  :'(

I seem to be missing a lot of fun from the upgrade process.  ;)

Ok... If I post here it's because I don't find a solution elsewhere (one that I can understand since, OBVIOUSLY, I am not a computer wiz)... thanks Motoki I've read that steps, it hasn't worked for me... I prefer "blunt" but working. This is like my problem with Riverview, It's just that my IQ has a negative value or I'm cursed.

It works me! After reinstalling the whole fucking thing...

Oh and 0.0.0.0 won't go away no matter who many fixes I try. So i guess it's gonna be uninstalling the basegame, reinstalling it and patching from retail from now on.

The steps work. If they are not working for you, it is because you are not following them. It isn't our job to hand-hold you or spend hours making up for your stupidity.

I had to uninstall an expansion pack and reinstall due to a changed file with this patch. I managed to do so without coming here to whine about it, nor did I even need to check some guide. It's a rather elementary process.

It was unrelated. Super computer was causing it to not load. It would still be nice to be able to update world adventures though :/.
I have the same problem with the same patch and an untouched game.

Super Computer is dead, so if you're using that, that's why your game is borked. It's been mentioned several times in this thread. It's been replaced with master controller. If you're not using it, then it's some other mod you have screwing with your game. Try taking the damn custom content out and putting it back in piece by piece.

Title: Re: Stupid Sims 3 patch

No Super Computer.
No another mod that AM.
Custom Content all from store.
...

I uninstalled my FAT AND OUTRAGEOUS HEAD, then my game. Yes, I did the steps from modthesims and the backup too.
Patched. Finally, with no mistakes. Now I'm 1.14/2.9/4.2. Installed the framework, so I don't have the not-filling-loadingbar-problem I had with the last patch.
The CustomContent is showing up in the game. I didn't lose my saved games.
Everything is OK. Just a LOT of crashes to desktop when I move through any of my sims' houses. I hope this could be due to DEP, what I'm going to test now.

Should we assume the condition is catching?  STAY AWAY!  I do not wish my head to be fat and outrageous.

Just patched the game, got the latest AM too.
When loading up a world, the bar almost reaches the end, and then it stays that way forever. A short forever, but forever nonetheless.
I've tried this with both saves and new games, but none seem to load, not even Vole's CAS world which usually took around a minute or so before.

No CTD yet. What could be the issue?

Custom content and/or other mods. Try yanking them all out and see if it loads. Also many of Twallan's mods have been updated for the new patch so if you have any of his go there and get the newest versions.

Well...God damn it...-_-

I know, necromancy is not cute, tits or GTFO, I know. I just have one thing to ask. I will not even try to get into details about patching with this latest stupid patch, but trust me when I say - X.x Long story short - could somebody please be so kind to upload the TSHost.dll file from the Ambitions CD (not the one you have on your HD - that one is probably already patched, so I`d have no use for it). My .iso image of AMB somehow mysteriously lost it, and now I can`t install it, and b/c I can`t install it, I can`t patch and...well, you know. We all got the same mind fuck from EA...

So, if anyone is reading this and has 2 minutes of spare time...yea. I`d appreciate the shit out of that.

Maybe you should get a different .iso. Are you sure this one isn't broken in other ways?

I already installed it once with this particular .iso, now that I`m doing a reinstall, that file is missing. Like, WTF, right? I didn`t poke at it at all! And since I`m on a limited internet bandwidth (10GB/month), d/l a new 4.6 GB heavy .iso for just that one small missing file seems kinda redundant :/

Uh-oh.

It is taking forever to switch between Live Mode and Buy/Build Mode.
Moreover, I'm experiencing CTD when going to the "basement building" mode.
Anyone have this issue? I'm using Sims 3 with all EPs and Stuff Packs.

My suggestion: Cancel your ISP and go back to dialup. Even 56K is worth a bit shy of 20 GB/mo. What you have is a connection about half the speed of common dialup. Whatever you're paying for it, it's too much.

Try installing the basegame patch that is in this thread Willee. If that one doesnt work, get this one:

http://akamai.cdn.ea.com/eadownloads/u/f/sims/sims3/patches/Sims3_1.14.11.007002_from_1.12.70.006002.exe

That will sort your problem :)
I can't thank you enough! I haven't played the game for weeks just because I didn't know I could do this  :D
Thank you!!  ;D
