Also, Babbysmasher FTW.

Some simple editing in paint? Though, this would be an excellent new feature for AM.

I'm pretty sure there is no chance in hell that this won't be added to AM. lol

And it's too bad if you photoshopped it Rad. That would have made my day.

Holy shit.  I've read about the babby grill but that is the first time I've seen a picture of it in use.  That is just so wrong.

I love it.

I can confirm that this Smash option is real for Simbots. You can buy a Simbot with Lifetime Reward points (around 60,000 to 70,000 I think) or when you become a level 10 inventor, you get a 'quest' arc that you can follow, and if you complete it you can then craft them.

It's a bit of a shoehorned-in feature, because once you make a Simbot they become your Son or Daughter. I was hoping they might have been more like the robot servants like in Sims 2, but they are just like fully functioning Sims, albeit with a few tweaks (appearance, obviously. Also the 'Smash' option. Also the need bars have different, more robot-y names, and no bladder bar).

I made one just to see how it looked, then moved her out about a day later. Now the crazy metallic bitch keeps turning up and standing in my garden for hours at a time, and the relationship bar is really hard to get up (plus it seems to reset as soon as they leave).

Why do the makers of the game keep making all the supernatural-type beings all cutesy and playable? Robot slaves would have been great :(

I just wished they'd used Servo from TS1. All they did was clean up and go to sleep. The TS2 version was an emo git with 'needs' and 'desires' and shit like that.

I know.  I wish they were robots and not not robot shaped people.

"Oh look at me!  I need to be entertained.  I need to talk to people and feel loved.  I need to use a toilette!  I need to sleep in a nice soft human bed and not recharge on a charging station!  I get older just like real person!"

Fuck you.

My only issue with them is their eyes. The face isn't that cute...the girl is a bit cuter, at least, but the eyes are horrifying. So I give them sunglasses which just ends up making them look like total nerds trying to be hardcore.

I haven't been able to get a simbot yet. So wait, they AGE? What kind of bullshit is that?! 8| I guess "deterioration" is plausible, but come on...To control population, the game could just cap a limit the amount of Simbots in the hood. They should also definitely be recolorable.

I think some mods are in order. Anyone?

Title: Re: Simbots are awesome
Post by: Sanati on 2010 June 06, 15:28:24
They rust as they get older, so it sort of makes sense. When you first make them they are clean, the pic in this thread is an older one with rust spots all over it. I don't know how bad it gets because I play with aging off, I assume before they "die" they are completely covered in rust.

The fact that they have to go to the bathroom and sleep in beds really pissed me off, so I got rid of them. It's like EA didn't feel like adding any new programming to make them actually function differently. It's just a sim wearing a robot suit.

I'm pretty sure "smash" is just their version of "detonate." All simbots start with like 4 or 5 points in inventing, they smash things for scrap. They eat scrap, so that's why they need it right away.

First we need some ideas.

I think there should be a charging station where they stand instead of being allowed to sleep in beds.  It could also handle them peeing since it is just retarded that they go to use toilette. Heck, it could charge up all their motives and keep them in suspended animation until there is a chore to be done, such as cleaning the house or weeding plants or fighting burglars or doing the laundry or other things that are below a non-slaves paygrade.  And when they are done with that?  Right back to their cell charging station.

Good idea! There's no way to remove some of their motive bars entirely though, is there? :/ Or to keep them from aging?

If you insist on a charging station, just get a sarcophagus and color it with the reflective metal texture.

As for motives, There is a hidden "IsFrankensim" trait. I assume someone could edit that trait to make it so that all motives are locked.

I'm doubly sure that that "headgear" is a sim-bot's head, a male one to be precise. Though, i've yet to see a blue male sim-bot.

It's definitely a Simbot "hair".

In fact, I'm not even sure there is a speshul "Future" hairstyle at all.

I'm also sure it is the Simbot's head.  I used test AM on a test hood, to make androids, and it worked!  But my point is that when making the androids, I had to change my simbots into adults.  Before I changed the hair they looked like the picture above.

I was hoping little kids, as simbots, would be able to anime properly, but the animation has specific bone assignments (like gardening and etc) that makes them stretch in a terrifying manner. Sucks, because creepy robot kids with spinning heads would be awesome.

Sim bots do everything but take showers. Also, bodysnatch works with them, due to the fact that they suffer from Big Foot syndrome from the sims 2; they are just make-up upped. I made a servo using the servo skin someone did, and then a snatched a human's body and it works fine except for the odd eyelids while sleeping.

Dunno why I didn't see that. EA did say somewhere that you could get futuristic body mods by using the time machine though, that's what I assumed it was.

Wait, what? Simbots PEE?

They pee, and it's censored. Can also give them the Steel Bladder trait IIRC. Totally ridiculous.

I've got a female sim in my game with that problem.  I couldn't figure out what the hell it was until I saw the female simbot.  It seems to me that the hairstyle for the simbots is most likely tagged to come up in random hair selections or something.

Only if you eat food which contains undigestable matter. Simbots eat FOOD? My understanding was that simbots consume scrap metal. Given that scrap metal is entirely digestable, being metal, and in any event, anything which might NOT be digestable is likely toxic heavy metals, you don't want to be dumping that into a terlet. It might even be illegal to do so.

This assumes that said chemical reaction produces no by-product. It would appear that the Simbot consumes metal to either convert to energy somehow or make internal repairs; similar to human growth or energy conversion. It is highly unlikely that this chemical reaction would have zero by-product.

Hell, even hydrogen cars "pee" because their by-product is water.

I doubt very much EAxis thought about any of this. They probably were just too lazy to make robots different to sims in any way other than their aesthetics and with a few text changes.

Title: Re: Simbots are awesome
Post by: Claeric on 2010 June 07, 16:32:57
That would make sense if Simbots didn't have a specific hidden trait which makes it so that they don't need to shower, gradually age visually over time, come in two preset varieties, etc.

Man, they thought enough to make them look like cruddy, prototype robots- following the idea that the game is 25 and 50 years before TS1 and TS2. They pay attention to detail more than people think (if you looked it up, you'd be surprised at the consistency between games and between families and their stories). It's not so crazy to believe that it's just supposed to be a clunky, inefficient robot.

Pretty much.  It is rather disappointing that they are just people in metal suits.  I'd personally like them to be little slaves that do all the chores and shit around the house so their masters can do other more important things.  But whatever is done with them, I'd like them to be more unique.

Actually, come to think of it there is one other difference between a regular sim and a sim bot. It seems sim bots can't be killed.  I had one relaxing in a bed that caught fire and it didn't phase him.  I've restarted the game since then, but I am going to test to see if I can kill one by starvation or by drowning once I make another.

It wasn't the look people were criticising. It was the fact that they pee, despite not having bladders. Try and actually read what people are complaining about rather than automatically fapping over EAxis at every opportunity. And, don't try and imply people know nothing about the game with statements like "if you looked it up", because I've been playing the sims for years, and yes, I have noted the consistency.

They pee because they're not fucking mega future Servos, they're a little mechanical robot that has waste it needs to get rid of. They have to eat because they're not mega future servos, they dont absorb energy from the world around them. Etc.

Well they probably "die" when they age too much. Before that they just break and stop working and then a sim can repair and or reprogram them.

When they break down they automatically repair themselves if a sim doesn't get around to it after a few hours.  But yeah, I'm pretty sure they die of old age, although I haven't played with one long enough for that to happen yet.

Quote properly FFS instead of that patronising shit you do with italics. Your posts have a tone displeases me - a certain jumped up sense of self righteousness because someone DARES to criticize the game.  They don't pee to make them appear clunky and inefficient. They pee because EAxis is lazy, and I don't believe basic robots and computer systems pissed when were first invented. And you didn't make it 'very clear' at all; you referenced their gradual aging in the first line, as well as their lack of need to shower and the fact they come in two different varieties, despite that not being a particular skillful way of making the robots different to sims on EAxis' part, which was my criticism in the first place. FFS stop being so far up EAxis' arse. I am sick to death of your posts and cba to respond to you anymore.

And get your fucking grammar right. They is plural, 'a little mechanical robot' is singular.

I would be pretty concerned if any of the robots at work started peeing. That would indicate a transmission/braking/hydraulic leak. Not standard operating protocol.

My opinion has reasoning behind it.

Yours is simply "They are lazy as fuck and that is that" without any actual backing to it.

Which is more reasonable? You can act like i'm "up EAxis' ass" all you want, but the fact is that my opinion, that they're intended very blatantly to be inefficient creatures, has reasoning behind it, and yours is just pulled from your whiny ass.

Well, if they weren't being lazy they would have had the sim bots get rid of waste in a way that makes sense, like throwing it away.  I mean, they don't drink.  They consume metal to fix themselves up or whatever and get energy through the electric blanket in the sheets. Shitting out the metal that it doesn't use would clog up the the toilette up pretty darn quickly.  It makes no sense whatsoever.

Not that it really matters.  On a fun side note that I found while looking for a pink diamond, if you drill a hole at night it pisses off your neighbors and they all come over to yell at you.  Great way to socialize.

I've already listed reasons. Read it again. It is lazy because they're identical to ordinary sims with a few minor, most superficial amendments. That is why they are lazy. Fucktard. Other people have said it too; read.

See, now the solid waste thing is sensible to say.

But "they are lazy because they arent how I want them to be" argument does not make sense. The fact that they are barely different than sims does not automatically indicate laziness.

It does to me, especially considering how they forgot to make the hairs unavailable for random selection.

like I said, it means to me that they have a specific view of what they are supposed to be: Very basic, inefficient, prototype servos. And because they're inefficient they have all these motives that need tending to, they produce excess waste, they have to eat physical matter to survive, etc.

Are either of us right for sure? No, we don't know. I'm just saying that just because they aren't how you want them to be doesn't mean they were lazy about them.

(also, I checked in TSRW, and the simbot heads/hairs are not allowed for random. Their loading randomly seems to be another issue.)

Lazy or obsessed with Twilight. The supernatural/scifi creatures in TS3 acting just like regular Sims with a superficial make-over reminds me of those failpires whose only difference is...sparkling in the sunlight.

Speaking of which, the Sims 2 Vampires were well done.  IIRC the only thing I would have changed is I would have forced them to suck another sim's blood to sustain themselves and they wouldn't have been able to eat real food.

Yeah, that would be a pretty good change.  Either that or they'd have to be outside during the daytime to recharge (although they wouldn't have to stop what they are doing, their solar panels would work passively).

I figure if they're eating, that's their energy source. So it's either no food/bathroom or no sleeping.

If they occasionally shit gears out in a corner or puked a toxic spill on the floor, I'd be okay with that. Not regularly like a bathroom need, but occasionally like cat hairballs.

This.

Puke in the corner and clean it afterwards instead of FUBAR in my terlet, filthy robot.

Gathering from everyone's ideas (which are all pretty damn good), here's what I'd like to see personally:

-Simbots either recharging at a charge station instead of beds or absorbing energy from sunlight. Possibly both.

-Getting rid of waste is reasonable, but doing it in a terlet is retarded. They should just randomly leave a scrap pile on the floor when their bladder hits 0.

-Aging off, OR have a mechanic do a "tune up" that resets their age.

Both of these could, in theory, be achieved through a custom object though. That may be the only option, it's not like EA will improve it.

I agree with the previous statements about the Servo from TS1. That thing was awesome.

I would like to add here that allowing waste failure has no consequences(other than a puddle) so you can ignore it if you want.

Edited to add: The tag/running big works on Simbots as well.

A puddle? Well that completely discards the idea that it's getting rid of unnecessary scrap. It's peeing. Ridiculous.

Yes, post number 14 is generally the magic post where one should come striding into the Forum and DEMAND a canning for another member.  LURK MOAR.

This assumes that said chemical reaction produces no by-product. It would appear that the Simbot consumes metal to either convert to energy somehow or make internal repairs; similar to human growth or energy conversion. It is highly unlikely that this chemical reaction would have zero by-product.
It's also highly unlikely the chemical byproducts of such a reaction are things that are legal to be flushing down a terlet, since the products would almost certainly include toxic heavy metals and nasty chemicals that you should not be flushing into the water supply.

Bit of a shame you need WA though.

Got around to having a sim actually make a simbot and wow, I didn't know I could be underwhelmed AFTER hearing all I heard. They really are just regular sims with an added "smash" option to objects (except salvaged ones, for some stupid reason) who can't bathe. They get labelled as your child and you can't even order them around. Sleeping in a sim bed and pissing in a sim toilet just adds to their mundaneness (mundanity?). I don't care how "realistic" a shitty robot is, because goddamn, it's a computer game. I want realism when sims die of disease or get canned for sleeping on the job, not for when you make robots. The same goes for ghosts - too much humanization of the supernatural or scifi in TS3.

Ghosts should always take the shortest route possible by floating through doors and walls; they shouldn't need to eat, sleep, piss or shower; if they MUST recharge, then they should disappear into their (placeable) grave or urn. I could go either way on ageing, what with the whole GHOST BABBY thing - although I definitely would have loved to scrap GHOST BABBIES. TS3 ghosts overall remind me of those Twilight failpires.

Robots should recharge in a station (or the sun, that was a nice added touch - eco sims could get an added boost for that); waste disposal should at least be toxic green puke; their creators/owners should be able to order them around, maybe with additional ROBOT REVOLUTION possibilities (ie, lower your relationship with your simbot enough and they set your house on fire before running away). Eating scrap was a nice touch, but seriously, why can't you smash salvaged items? I'd understand not getting the same amount of scrap as you would from smashing a brand new item, but if you can explode salvaged items into scrap, you can smash them. I wonder if that's a code bug.

I have no tl;dr thoughts on mummies because I've never bothered with them, but I liked that fire killed them instantly. For the record, washing their hands does not kill a simbot - I've tried.

I have a household of 2 simbots, one invented by the other.  I really don't like the "eek, a Simbot" reaction that stomps their queues whenever one of them walks past the other one.

I've had them roll up wants to eat at the bistro.  Sorry, but I don't think the bistro serves scrap.

They also roll up wants to become more muscular, which I don't think is possible.  If EA weren't going to block this want for simbots then they should have added a "change simbot body shape" interaction on the inventing station.

The reprogram option when they have shorted out is a nice way to change their traits without spending aspiration points, but it's a shame that it doesn't change their LTW.

Good find.  Since this is technically a sarcophagus what we need now is a mod that makes a sarcophagus able to be an assignable bed.  What I mean by that is if you direct a sim to sleep in a regular bed he will always sleep in that bed and no one else will.  If you click on a different sim to sleep in that bed it will say something like "Sleep in Rob's bed" and if you choose that option you reassign the bed to Rob. But with a sarcophagus you can only choose sleep and it never assigns the sarcophagus to the sim you order to sleep there.  Either that or if there is an empty sarcophagus on a lot any mummies/sim bots should automatically choose it before selecting any other bed.

Pescado hates queue stomping, so he'll probably be getting rid of this behaviour in AM.

Probably.  I don't actually mind the reaction, I just wish they'd continue on with whatever they were doing before after the reaction.

FYI: Process Monitor logged over 9 million events for Wintermuteai's original sim bot station. It caused serious lag in my game. The fixed version seems OK. He was snarky about the issue in his MTS thread, telling those who had it it must be their fault.
