Title: Bodyshop Won't Load, Microsoft Error Message Shown Instead
Post by: Haricot on 2010 April 06, 15:51:05
My sister recently installed TS2, NL and OFB (NOT Uni) on a not-particularly-great-but-okay dell computer. The game works fine, more or less (apart from sims using Pescado's macrotastics to autosocialise often generate errrors (visible when boolprop is on - or caused by boolprop being on?)  - something to do with 'desire' - and have to be reset), but Bodyshop won't load at all. When I try to load Bodyshop, all I get is a microsoft error message saying "The Sims 2 Body Shop has encountered a problem and needs to close.  We are sorry for the inconvenience," so on and soforth. This is obviously very annoying as most Maxis stuff is very ugly (especially NL and OFB decor stuff - erlack).

Could it be because my sister didn't install Uni? If so, is there any way of re-installing the game to include Uni (I have the discs) while still preserving my sims? If not, what is it?

Thanks for your patience.

EDIT: More info --

After searching on this board for similar problems, I deleted the cigen.package and the Groups Cache and cleaned out the SavedSims folder, to no avail. I only have Pescado's stuff in my downloads - I have no CC.

Not sure about the bodyshop thing, as there several things that could cause that.  You could probably install Uni without reinstalling any of the other packs, just to answer that question.  This means you wouldn't lose your sims.

The boolprop thing... yeah.  That isn't causing the errors.  Boolprop testingcheatsenabled true is a debug mode used by the designers; it's set up to generate error messages for every little hiccup your game has.  If your getting errors with it on, you were certainly getting the same ones with it off, only without the message.  A lot of sheeple don't understand this, which is why they blame it for a lot of problems.

I thought so, just checking.

Don't you have to install them in order?

Edit: Also, Uni discs are AWOL. Is it likely/possible that it could be the absence of Uni that is causing this problem?

Ah! Right, so, I searched my computer for bodyshop, opened the bodyshop open for business csbin, and boom! There it is. Maybe the shortcut on my start menu was of the wrong program. In any case, the thing has loaded, so problem solved I think.

It's recommended, but I doubt it's a must.  I had to reinstall certain ep's before, and I didn't have to uninstall every ep that came after it just to install the one I needed.  Way too much time for nothing.  If you're afraid it it will bork your hood, just back it up before trying.  Of course, this is only if you decide to install Uni later, since you seem to have solved the problem on your own without it.
