Title: Making your own strays
Post by: Jackathyn on 2010 March 11, 09:20:13
I've made a set of strays with nostrayregen on because I hate the fail Maxis ones. However, they're not behaving as I'd expected, ie. roaming around occasionally as true strays. What might I have done wrong? I've placed the animals in a townie family, but that doesn't seem to have been all I needed to do.

Strays don't go in the townie fambly. They go in the Strays fambly.

That explains that.

Making one titled 'Strays' would work, wouldn't it? I don't have one as-is.

It has a magic number, so it cannot just be any fambly. The name does not matter, although naming it that may help keep it straight.

Is there a reference list with this number, or might you know it offhand? ... I did just try making a 'Strays' family but yes, no dice.

The easiest way is probably to make a stray ingame, thereby forcing the creation of a Stray family. An easy way to do this is to give away/sell a pet to a townie. Once the family is created you can move your other animals into it.

I used Inge's teleporter cat to move CAS-created 'strays' into a test family, then from there I could make them real strays using the teleporter. They wander onto lots just as they should.

Whoo... I think I've got it. Thanks a lot, everyone. It was a big help.
