Title: Fishtank woes
Post by: RogueSkinner on 2010 February 07, 19:30:26
Ok, I've installed HELS and updated everything, tried with both mods in game, and taken out and still have the same issue.

The new fishtank has no interaction options.  Can't add fish at all, and when you hover over it it says something like sims 3 object decorative but it's unclickable.

Has anyone else had this issue and if so, is there a fix?

It sounds like a conflict to me. Try removing any mods you have, then reloading the game and try again. If it works, then try putting the mods in one at a time until you find the culprit.

I tried with mods and without any.  Same issue

Try removing skins and testing in a world you don't care about.  I found that custom skins caused crashing problems with the pool/basement tools in my game.

Just a note. Try moving your framework into the HELS folder. I was having all kinds of problems with custom objects and objects from HELS until I did that. All my stuff works now.

I'm having the same issues, with and without mods, and with all my framework shifted to the newer HELS directory. A lot of the HELS objects have no interactions, and the new electric guitar doesn't show up at all. :/

EDIT: Scratch that, I forgot to remove awesome mod. Removing the Feb 02 version of Awesome mod results restores all functions, but the game ceases to be awesome. :/

That's why you should use the Test version of Awesome Mod,  that version works with the new 1.9/2.4 update.  The side effect is that your game will become Awesome again.

Awesome mod has been fine since I updated the versions, it's HELS (which I only installed today) that has brought on the issues. Test directory is currenty empty by the looks of things, but I've grabbed today's version. Might solve things.

yeah I have everything in the HELS directory and even without mods and nothing but EA content, I'm still having the issue

Would you care to elaborate on your issues?  Are you using Awesome Mod? Have you made sure the framework is installed properly in the HELS directory?  I'm not sure if you were looking for help Rogue but if you were, more info is needed.

Although more information is always a good thing, they already said that they have the issue even without mods. Twice, actually. Since AM qualifies as a mod, I'm guessing they aren't using it. They did not, however, state whether or not they were playing with a new, clean hood created post-mod-removal, so I suppose it's still a valid point.

My apologies, didn't even realize that Rogueskinner was the OP.  I Thought he was just another person with a similar issue that possibly needed to elaborate his issues.  Nor was it mentioned that they used sims 3 dashboard or some other means to remove any possible Cache files or the cas and object thumbnails packages.

Correct.  New Neighborhood, (1 with mods in place, 1 without) Framework properly installed in the correct directory, all custom content outside of EA store items removed (and default replacement skin) and the fishtank still has no interactions available regardless of modded game, or plain jane game.

I DO use awesomemod but this was removed along with all other mods in the clean game.  Same issue.

Going to start removing EA content next to see if it's something there.

It probably isn't EA stuff. I have all the EA store stuff, plus all my mods and downloads. I do not use Awesomemod though. I have all the interactions on the fishtank. It is something you have downloaded that is conflicting most likely...perhaps something you forgot to remove? Did you double check the Base Game folders?

Halp!  Does anyone else have disappearing fish?  I can have one fish in the HELS aquarium; if I try to put in more, they disappear in a few Sim hours.

I have the 1.10/2.5/3.1 patches and AM, and no other hacks.  The framework is installed in all three directories.

Is it possible the fish are eating each other? That would be seriously cool.

Does that mean if no fish are there that 1 fish ate itself?  Something silly people have tried to do for years, accomplished by ... game fish?

Post by: Capitaine Marie on 2010 February 11, 06:00:52
I'm starting to think the aquarium is seriously screwed.  In my last session, I had one black goldfish in there already and added *one* goldfish.  The aquarium showed one black goldfish and *two* goldfish!  Awhile later, one goldfish apparently ate the other.  Oy!  ::)

I requested a fix for this in the AwesomeMod request area.  Hopefully, Pes can fix it.

Maybe it is possible for the fish to mate?  And then there's the "I brought you in, I can take you out", complex.

What is your butt doing that close to the monitor?

Someone at another forum pointed out that goldfish are bait for black goldfish, and that may be why they keep disappearing.  I'm going to test that theory with other fish.

What is your butt doing that close to the monitor?

It's ok, I saw "poop" too.  :D

It's not a bug--it's a feature!

By the way, there's now a mod at MTS to expand the tank capacity to as many as 15 fish.

Very awesome. Are their any accompanying visuals for prey and woohoo, I wonder. You'd think so, if the sims react to it.

I wonder if there is a food chain defined somewhere. Would suck if it's just random, and Goldfish start eating Lobsters or whatever.

Definitely a surprising little feature.

Title: Re: Fishtank woes
Post by: J. M. Pescado on 2010 February 12, 16:27:54
It's defined based on the bait-table, so certain fish eating certain other fish is based on what baits are used to catch them...
Of course, those tables are pretty random and often nonsensical, too.

Cool -- now that I know it's a feature and not a bug!  I've got to watch more closely for those animations.  I wonder if woohoo leads to baby fishies. ;D

Oh that is cool, now I can't wait to get HELS. This will make the "perfect aquarium" LTW a bit more interesting.

I wonder if the HELS aquarium will work for that LTW.  When my Sim has a wish to put a fish in a bowl, it isn't fulfilled by putting the fish in the aquarium.  And she's never rolled a wish to put one in the aquarium.

Aw, what complete crap. I was really hoping having the aquarium would eliminate having fish bowls on every surface in the house. Drat.

Maybe Pes can fix that.  ;D

I had my Hopeless Romantic Sim stock her aquarium with 4 Goldfish, and then I proceeded to make her "watch" throughout the days ahead.  For 3 sims days nothing happened.  My Sim usually booed the fish tank and stuck her tongue out.  Then finally one "Watch" she started to get excited and cheered with a baby pacifier thought bubble over her head.

I looked in the tank and there were still only 4 fish.  I didn't notice any different animation or bubbles or anything in the fish tank.  She went to bed and when she woke up I had her go to feed and watch and there were 6 Goldfish now.  They are labeled as had been "born in captivity".  I took one out and put it in a round fish tank, and the next day I had 6 again in the aquarium.

I like the idea that they can mate and fight.  I wish this counted toward the LTW.  I hate having all of those fish bowls everywhere.

If you have debugging commands enabled you can force events in the fishtank. I had to remove my no-mosaic to see the bloody fish at all, but making them 'woohoo' makes two random fish of the same type swim towards each other, and then hearts appear. 'Prey' makes a random predator swim towards a random bait fish. You can also create a 'die' event that makes a random fish float to the surface.. dead.

*hopes no mosaic is updated soon* ... The Awesomemod no mosaic is very un-awesome. I never use it because of the toilet censor it doesn't disable, and the only reason I use no mosaic anyway is so I don't have to deal with the toddlers that vanish under the mosaic when being potty-trained.

Awesome. I'd never visited that site before. Always nice not to need to go through foreign language registrations. @.@

When I used debug commands I have hoping for one like the 'stock fridge' or 'fill bookcase with all books' ones. There isn't one.

No, it does exactly what *I* want it to do. That's what's important. I *WANT* it that way. Therefore, it will STAY that way. And it tells you this.

I was meaning the one on mod the sims. There's two of them. One was buy Rick. The other was by Rothchild. Those were the ones I have been using in place of awesomemod, because I know that that question  has been asked of Pescado multiple times and the answer was always NO. I was NOT saying that he should change it now. I was merely HOPING that someone else would have made the fishy effects re-appear on one of those ones. And someone already had, as Tasha pointed out, and I am using that one now.

So I'd say you need a stronger prescription for your glasses.

My German is pretty rusty, but it looks like Rothschilde has solved the game effects problem. I will try it out later to be certain. Though I don't mind not seeing people pee. I have two small children, so I get enough of that in real life. :P
