Title: Create a template
Post by: shadow on 2009 November 09, 17:17:34
My neighborhood became corrupt and I can't open the saved file so I'm starting over. I started a new neighborhood using Sunset Valley. I 'raptured' the residents and bulldozed the houses. I am now in the process of updating the community lots. When I'm finished I would like to save the neighborhood as a template, possibly replacing EA's Sunset Valley, so I can use it again and won't have to go to the work of cleaning it up again. I'm lazy that way.  :P
How would I do that?

I just keep all my neighborhood templates in a safe folder on my computer and when I want a fresh neighborhood, I copy the template I want to use, changing the name to the new town name, into my Saves folder where all the neighborhood saves end up. I don't think you can replace the original drop down neighborhoods (nor may you want to either).

For backup purposes, it is a great idea to save a copy in a safe location; but you could still leave the template in with your regular saved games. Just remember to choose "save as" right away. I usually have different versions: starting from scratch, buildings, cribs/ready to move in, and populated.
