Title: SUPPORT THE MUNICIPALITY!
Post by: J. M. Pescado on 2009 August 31, 13:48:07
It is that time of the year again, where, like last year, we approach the server bill date. Do you want to see another year of Awesomeness?

SUPPORT THE MUNICIPALITY! (http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/support.php)
We're on to you.

You may also optionally indicate that you would like your contribution to also be used towards the Drunk Ellatrue Beer Fund for beer for Ellatrue in #grah, or for the Moar Computar Fund for prominent MATY citizens in need of MOAR COMPUTAR.

Ellatrue needs 'ritas! I can get behind this cause.

Are bribes being offered this year? I'm definitely going with whoever offers the best bribes.

This isn't a contest, Spaceface.

No bribes, only the stick.  I believe what Fearless Leader is saying is that it is time to kick in some IRL dough to financially support the servers.  The slightly veiled threat is that, if no money is forthcoming, the server and Awesomeworld disappears.

Avert the apocalypse.  Donate yer spawn's college fund.

That said, can we assume that donors end up in the aristocracy, as in previous years?  Perhaps that's what the spacecadet meant.

Yeah, you know, same thing if you want that. Remember, though: No hurry. This isn't the old KathyInsimenator, and we are forward-facing. We have about 3-4 months for this, and if the fact that Hecuboss is no longer present results in more Paypal issues, we have plans for an emergency drive in place, and a recovery plan which will mean we won't need to do this again next year if that happens.

Is the MATY gift shop still running?
I have no idea. Probably not, since Hecuboss is dead. You need to show up in #grah so I can asks you questions, though.

Snip...
That said, can we assume that donors end up in the aristocracy, as in previous years?  Perhaps that's what the spacecadet meant.

What is considered a large enough donation to receive said enTITLEment?  I donated last go around, and received no comely nameage.  I presumed it was because the amount given was too trivial.  Also, since I don't post often, I assumed it could have been due to my lurkerness.  There are valid reasons for not posting much; The stuff I do know about gaming is much less than other, more-experienced gamers to offer much valuable input, and the stuff I don't know it actually quite amazing.   There is enough stoopid; I don't want to let it spill out from me too often...

Did you reply and request your title? That was part of the deal I think. To come forward and ask for title or server space.

This thread (http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php/topic,7074.msg197888.html#msg197888) lists the titles one would receive based on the cumulative sum of their donations back then, if that's what you wanted to know.

Well, it is well known that Pescado's Psychotic Mind Reading Helmet (Tin Foil Antenna Sold Separately) has been in the shop for a while now. In conclusion, thanks for your donation, you are a muffin, have a nice day.

I have given tribute from my puny paypal balance (I've obviously been lacking in my offerings to the eBay Gods of late)...

Just because I could not have played the Sims2 then or the Sims3 now without the mod(s) from here. In fact, my donation may have been entirely because of my utter appreciation for several years of fairly blissful playing of Sims2 thanks to the 'nobuskers' hack alone...

No, it's more annoying than anything else. You waited a year to go "Oh hey, where's my title?" because you couldn't follow directions the first time?

Wish I could give this time around (I did last time, but for karma, not shinies) but I still has no job.

I see that those products still have a markup, although it is not very much (probably the basic 10%).  If Hecuboss is dead, who is collecting the funds from the store?  I don't suppose she handed over the passwords before dying?

I gave what I can afford. I've already felt that I wanted to give Pescado some money for all the work he does that has made it possible to play this game. I don't want any titles (assuming I'd even be considered for one). I just want to pay back in the way I can for what is being given freely.

All I know is that Hecubus told me the store was getting very, very little action, and I would vouch that she has been forwarding any profits if there are any. People here *hem* have had their differences with her, but I have never known her to be sketchy.

Eevilcat I presume you are donating from the UK, feel free to poke me with a stick if that's wrong but my ears pricked up at the word sterling.  I ask only to find out the best way to do this that causes Pescado the least hassle with fees.  Is an international money order better than visa or a cheque.  I know in the previous thread a debate raged but nothing ever seemed to be put forward as the best way.

Donation sent.

My recollection is that I did not have any specific differences with Hecubus, and I did not mean to cast aspersions.  My question was more in the sense that if Hecubus was "dead" and no longer watching the shop, who was?  It may be, as you suggest, that she has been tracking any meagre profits and forwarding them "from beyond".  I suspect her assessment was correct that after the last Cheeseserver drive there was a drop-off in activity at the store, so there may not be much income from there anyway.

I'm still quite happy that the stuff there is still apparently available.

I am willing to pony up $100 CDN for this. Add your pleas, people.

I think you'll be fine. Last year, the donation goal was reached very quickly, though, so maybe you should just donate now and live off Ramen until the 15th :P
AFAIK, shirts and other merch can be bought whenever you feel like it, not dependant on current server payment status.
If Hecubus is alive, that is.

The title wasn't all that important, or I would have taken the time to follow through the first time.  I actually didn't remember the whole scenario until someone brought up the possibility of title or goods for the donation.  I donated to donate.  It's better than pressing the "thanks" button.  I asked because it's been a year, I didn't remember, and obviously didn't take the time to research the original thread.

Actually, I think I like Rohina's idea the most.  Although it does seem to me that most of those considered tards really like to follow where ever she posts.  She's so busy trying to stomp the stupid that the main point of the topic gets lost.  Sometimes it's hilarious, mostly it's annoying.

Because apparently Zazzle calls all amounts less than $25, "$0".

Be advised that for those who just suffer from a total lack of patience and pacing, that, like all previous years, titles and other rewards will not actually be processed until the bill is sent in and confirmed. Due to past difficulties in processing, we don't count the chickens until they hatch. Because, you know, this was supposed to run for 3 months. Not 3 days. :P

Not 3 days. :P

So, we are going to nag you about SETTING A TARD-FREE ZONE SEPARATED FROM RETARDOLAND for three months? This could be fun.

I was going to wait awhile since you said you weren't in any hurry but it looks like you might be cutting this off early so....Donation complete.

As mentioned, I am shallow enough to purchase a title if they are for sale (feminine form please). If not, consider it a thank you. Baa baa...

Edited to correct spelling fail.

Anyone out to get a title will have to wait until final processing at the REAL end of the process, assuming you had paced yourselves better. That means you have to manage to stay alive here for the next 3-4 months without dying or souping.

Good, please post deadlines so that people can keep on donating. You might just get that other stuff you wanted.  :P

Well, yes, but when the person who was running the Zazzle store was apparently MIA, it did not seem likely to me that money I paid to the Zazzle store would actually get to the cheeseserver.

Well, based on the progress rate, by tomorrow we will be full up on the server fund and will only take donations for the Beer Fund and the Computar Fund.

The Computar Fund sounds worthwhile as your minions need to be able to provide fast, efficient service. We all stand to benefit by that. I am less convinced about the need for beer, unless it is for the minions to help them work.

Beer helping minions work?  There is something really wrong with that statement. In my experience, the moar beer consumed by minions, the LESS work you get out of 'em... no beer until the minions have finished their assigned tasks.

Yes, but this misconception stems from your imperfect understanding of how things work. If you were THERE, you would know!

In all seriousness booze effects people differently. I have a friend who is generally a slob but when she gets buzzed she gets super productive and turns into a cleaning machine.

I don't pretend to understand it, but I have seen it happen many times.

To clarify, Zazzle doesn't need any interference from anyone to run correctly: ie to pay money to cheezservar when people buy MATY stuffs. They only transfer money in lots of $25 or more, though and they take a while to do it. So your money will get into the fund eventually.

Beer is what fuels my brother and most other roofers.

The more beer I pour into him, the more work he does on my apartment.

Donation made.  Please no titles.  Use funds for whatever, including beer.  I'm just happy to have you back up and running!

I am, however, taking possible explanations for when my husband sees BURNINATION on our bank statement.

If we donate to the computer fund can we still get the title or webspace?

Donation complete, and as I am vain, I would like the title, if possible. Feminine form pretty please.

Also, I am wondering, are there anything specific we had to do to tie the donation to our MATY username? 'Cause if there were, I didn't know and/or forgot.

You have to, at some point, indicate which one of those is actually you, either during title claim, or by putting it in the commentary.

LOLz at husband's reaction. If it really says that, I wonder what my mom and dad will say. Though I did request permission prior to donation, it will be interesting to see/hear their reaction to having supported BURNATION.

Yes, the goal has effectively been met, although there are a number of uncertainties we are looking to cover. And beer. Titles will be given at the time the renewal is confirmed.

Usually, assuming we keep our present provider, sometime in Jan. Like I said, we are forward-facing. Things are currently up in the air, though.
