Title: Patch 1.3 Released

If this was somehow already posted somewhere obvious and I didn't see it, then I'm stupid. This is the biggest fix list from EA. Ever. Maybe.

I'll still wait for an awesomemod update before downloading this one.

Complete list of changes:

After getting promoted in a job with a night shift the Sim will only receive the day off if their next shift starts within 8 hours.
Exporting and Sharing a Level 10 Gardener Sim properly maintains their special abilities.
Fixes to Story Progression. Babies will no longer be born to single parents. Player created or controlled households are now "protected" and will no longer be removed through "Story Progression." Warning: Story Progression will no longer remove previously player controlled Sims. Users who take control of too many Sims in the same game may experience poor performance as the neighborhood can become over populated.
Switching between multiple saved outfits of the same type no longer has the potential to wipe out saved outfits.
Waterlillies now have a smoother level of detail transition when zooming the camera.
Camera memory hotkeys now properly remember floor level.
Certain situations will now properly stop socialization and disallow asking other Sims to join.
Bait picker for fishing has been improved.
Sims no longer automatically exit the bathtub before receiving the "Bathe until Tranquil" moodlet.
Sims can no longer interview non-playable ghosts.
Addressed an issue where distant audio could occasionally be heard while the player is focused on a Sim is inside their own home.
Changing jobs no longer fulfills the "Meet All Co-workers" Wish.
Playable ghost teens and children are now properly assigned to a school.
Custom paintings can now be properly placed above objects that are placed up against a wall and leave enough wall space.
The "Call Over" Interaction is now available on seated Sims.
Reduced the urge for neat Sims to put away fire pits.
Neighbors will no longer gather to watch a burglar that hasn't yet stolen anything.
The "Maywood Glen" community lot is now properly classified as a park.
"Omni-Plant" opportunity has a higher chance of appearing.
Painting valued painting wishes are easier to fulfill.
Number of Books Read in the writing skill journal now counts number of books finished instead of the number of books started.
Sims will no longer attempt to use laptops when they are ungreeted visitors.
"Befriend All Co-workers" wish is no longer fulfilled by switching to a job with no coworkers.
Fixed a problem where the incorrect clothing was displayed on a Sim in the game launcher icon.
Harvestables on harvest ready plants will not get occasionally lost during import/export.
Opportunity to improve athletic skill will no longer appear when athletic skill is full.
"Play a Game with Sim" wish now fulfills from "Playing Foosball."
Sims will now get the "Witnessed Divorce" moodlet from watching other married Sims break up.
Stocked ponds are properly preserved when shared.
Sims will no longer occasionally fail to walk a path involving four or more flights of stairs.
A player is now able to complete the "Upgrade Audio Lite by LoFi" Wish.
Prevented a game freeze that occurred when placing a lot while in "Cameraman Mode."
Sims no longer have the rare chance of getting permanently stuck while socializing.
Non-player Sim autonomy now runs more quickly for Sims on screen and nearby (neighbors won't spend time standing in their front yards or not moving on community lots)
Fixed a rare case in which the skewer thumbnail of an NPC could disappear during a private wedding.
"Become Enemies with Child" wish no longer appears.
"Quit Job" wish will now fulfill if Sim gets a new job and is forced to quit the old one.
Stairs are no longer allowed to be deleted while in use.
Prevented a case where toddlers were allowed to escape a lot and wander freely.
Fixed a rare case where a toddler's teddy bear could get permanently stuck in their inventory.
"Clean High Chair" wish properly fulfills.
"SimLife Goggles" are no longer duplicated after moving.
The "Raid Criminals" interaction can now be properly resumed after saving and loading while it is in progress.
Sims will no longer get a wish to ask their husband to be their boyfriend.
Fix for a possible crash when disconnecting headphones during gameplay.
Relationships are properly preserved when merging a newly created household into an existing household.
"Play with Toy" wish properly fulfills when a child Sim plays with the teddy bear.
Fixed an error that occurred when deleting an outfit preset that a Sim was wearing.
Lot pricing was corrected in edit town. The price of trees and bushes is now properly accounted for. Various community lot objects no longer provide negative value to a lot.
"Woohoo" interaction now counts as a romantic interaction.
Wish to "See Child Become a Genius" now auto cancels once it is no longer possible to fulfill.
Sheet music can no longer be chosen from the bookshelf interactions. This prevents a situation in which Sims could no longer learn particular songs.
Fixes a rare case where a revived ghost could become stuck in the science lab if a household was split.
"Eat Food at Park" wish now fulfills properly.
Parents will no longer wish to "See Sim Get Married" for their already married children.
Kleptomaniac Sims can no longer return items currently being used by other Sims.
Fixes a rare case in which a blank thumbnail could appear in the family inventory after a Sim had been kicked out.
Fixes a rare case in which a blank thumbnail could appear in the family inventory after a Kleptomaniac Sim swiped something.
ATI video driver's "Adaptive Aantialiasing" option conflicts with ingame "Edge Smoothing." The combination causes visual corruption. A note has been added to the readme encouraging players not to enable these two features at the same time.
Medium-sized, high quality in-game videos can now be successfully uploaded via the launcher.
Fixed a case where "Breakup with Sim" wasn't correctly fulfilling.
Fix for a case where rapidly clicking on Sim traits could crash the game.
Toddler's body no longer deforms when "Watching TV" after "Learning to Talk."
Sims can now use "Charming Introduction" on Sims invited over to a home lot.
Gardening skill gain no longer continues if gardening channel viewing is interrupted.
Child Sims no longer deform after "Watching a Concert."
Eating specific prepared meals no longer has an impact on an unborn baby's gender.
Fixed a hang that could occur when moving away from a house with harvestable plants growing on it.
Merge household bed and fridge requirements are no longer enforced on lots that are being abandoned.
Fixed a problem, where through specific timing, objects could become unusable if the game is saved while they are being placed in a Sim's inventory.
The Sims 3 is now properly categorized as a game in the Windows Vista Games Explorer.
A selected object in buy or build mode now stays attached to the cursor as the player scrolls the camera with the direction keys.
Fences no longer occlude sound.
Terrain enclosed by walls and a roof is now properly lit.
Puddles will properly conform to uneven terrain.
Prevented problematic routing behavior that occurs when replacing an object mid route.
Corrected various grammar and spelling mistakes.
Deleted screenshots no longer remain listed in the launcher.
"Dance Together" and "Tutor Sim in Skill…" no longer appear on Sims at inappropriate times.
"Non-hydrophobic" Sims will no longer panic while swimming.
The Magic Gnome text notification now displays the proper icon.
Exposed floor tile edges have changed in color.
Fixed a problem where counters would occasionally turn black while selecting certain objects in build mode.
Fixed a rare instance where at map level the bulldozer tool could leave a blue hole in the ground.
The option to "Adjust Tree Detail" now properly displays a "Restart Required" message.
"Spying on the Cuisine" opportunity can now be fulfilled by selecting to "Eat Outside" at the Bistro.
Refreshing doors no longer causes them to lose their front door status.
A child that ages to a teen will no longer receive the wish to "Talk about New Job."
"View" interaction will not be duplicated when placing objects on the "Nearly Perfect Pedestal."
Up arrow can now be used when placing a house from the library.
A faint line is no longer visible on the heads of babies.
Fish are no longer duplicated in the fridge when moving homes.
All dfc-gorilla (update installer) messages will now appear properly translated.
Fix for a rare case in which a Sim could be teleported to an invalid location if the game was reloaded while they were "Changing Outfit."
Fixed a problem where bulldozed lots were not being properly lit at map level.
Sims who run into obstacles placed directly in front of them, no longer get stuck.
Babies and Toddlers will no longer be left alone if the household is split up or merged through edit town, a babysitter will be called.
Fixed a rare case in which a Sim remains on the wrong lot after moving.
Guitar Skill level 10 text notification no longer mentions purchasing new songs from the bookstore.
Fixed a rare case where the social worker's vehicle could be left behind on a lot.
Korean GRB rating is now available to use in Windows Parental Controls.
The Sims 3 now supports more than 2000 concurrent save games.
Custom Music will no longer be assigned as a favorite randomly.
Fixed a rare case where "Accept" would be unavailable in Create-A-Sim after undoing while accepting a Sim from "Play with Genetics."
Children Sims will no longer attempt to knock over blocks at the same time.
Fixed child animation when putting away the birthday cake.
Fish no longer appear on dry ground of lots that have been coverted to residential lots .
Bulldozing a lot with collectable spawners no longer destroys the spawners.
A family with only a toddler is no longer allowed to be saved to the library.
Placing small objects on the front slot of the dresser will no longer block the dresser from being used.
Sims no longer fail to view decorative objects placed on a fireplace mantle.
Sims now build relationship through the "Tutor" interaction.
Fixed a minor error that occurred while loading a game where the dresser was in use.
Fix for misaligned water effects on a particular sink.
"Likes Work" moodlet is now properly removed if "Workaholic" trait is changed or removed.
Purchasing "SimLife Goggles" now fulfills the "Buy Video Game" wish.
Canceling the installation of a queue of downloaded items now works properly.
"Collection Helper" is properly displayed when picked up in buy mode.
Fixes some cases of objects being improperly assigned type in the launcher.
The player can no longer delete a tombstone that is being used by a ghost.
Fixed a rare routing failure that could happen when attempting to route to an enclosed object on an inactive floor.
Televisions no longer play video after they are burned or broken.
Under certain circumstances, Sims will now choose smarter lot entry locations.
"Amateur Olympics" Opportunity notification now mentions event times.
Sims can no longer "Try for Baby" with the Grim Reaper.
Fixed a rare case where a Sim could start painting but the canvas was not visible.
Fixed a rare case where the police cruiser could be left in front of the police station.
"Sabotage" interaction is now available under more conditions.
Deeds will now stack in the inventory and a "Collect All" interaction can be used on them.
The Riverview download now displays the proper size for the entire duration of the download.
Fix for children playing improper animations when trying to cook.
Fixed an error that occurred when removing the moodlet manager from the inventory of a Sim that was in the process of using the moodlet manager.
"Upgrade Object" wish correctly filters out gates.
Various premade Sims downloaded from the exchange are now sorting into the correct age catagory.
Buildings will keep the appropriate lights when zooming in and out at nighttime.
Fixed a very slow memory leak triggered by the "Fertilize" interaction.
Adding support for the NVIDIA Ion.
Roofing is now visible on low end Intel video cards.
Replaced a duplicate hat style for elder females.
Game speed no longer affects the playback of audio stings.
NPC's automobiles are no longer purged from inventory.
Added support for the NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250.
Mac Only: Custom Content, Screenshots or video added to Documents/User/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3/… while the game is running will now show up in the Launcher.
Mac Only: The Mac version of The Sims 3 now supports Shader Model 3.0 graphics features. (excluding the NVIDIA GeForce 7300GT and 7600GT cards)
Mac Only: The high lighting quality Sim shader has been enabled in Create-A-Sim.
Mac Only: Added a warning message upon attempting to delete a downloaded world (Riverview) that associated save files will be lost.
Mac Only: Enabled depth texture support (shadows) on all supported video cards.
Mac Only: The user interface is no longer improperly displayed in ingame reflections.

I'm amazed that they would even consider fixing that much. Anyway, these two interested me the most.

Did this actually exist before, or is this an entirely new moodlet?

Although you have to wonder whether the moodlet is a good one or a bad one. I mean, I, personally, think such a thing is hilarious and would P&L if I saw it, so it should almost certainly be a good thing to see for the Mean and Evil.

I wonder, are they paying our fearless leader for having shown them the light (and possibly the code) to fix those two particular problems among others?   (I know better, but just had to ask...found it hilarious that they just now are fixing the things Pescado fixed weeks and weeks ago).

Serves no purpose to specifically remove them just to patch: Hacks are files that never existed, and are installed into a directory that never existed in the first place, making it impossible for the patch program to be aware of their existence.

The Invalid file fix that worked for me.

There was a mod which had you either replace or archive the gameplay.package in The Sims 3\Game\Bin. Fortunately I made a backup of that file. I just switched it out and the patch ran fine. See if you can remember any mod asking you to manipulate the base game files.

Yeah sorry, I was referring to potentially unwanted weirdness occuring if playing with the pre-patch mods still in there?

Of course, it's vaguely worded enough that it's not clear what changed.  Maybe raw apples and watermelons still work, but cooked food doesn't.  Maybe Cobbler and Pancakes still work.  French Toast and Eggs Machiavelli were traps for players who didn't know the rules.

Testing must ensue.

Is it just me or did they steal some of that from Pescado?
Parthenogenesis was always such a stupid idea that this fix is obvious.

No more reaper spawn! I wonder if any of the families that had the shadow larvae have been uploaded. Also, I am absolutely dumbfounded by the sheer length of this list of things they failed to fix before releasing the game... and this is probably just the tip of the iceberg.

A dumb and n00bish question but I gotta ask it. Do I need the previous patch as well as this one? My game still isn't patched. I'm still not sure wether I should patch the game but I rather downlaod the patches just in case I decide to change my mind.

The patch installed fine without removing mods(I don't have any that replaced bin files).  I also have Indie.  I was playing for about 5 min. my time and it crashed to desktop.  I never crash during the game.  There must be something conflicting.  I figured it would because there were so many fixes that Prescado already addressed.

Yeah. After a few minutes the game will crash to the desktop. Awesomemod and Indie are bound to get updated within the next hour or two. If not, it's night time where I am so I'm hoping by the time I wake up I can use Awesomemod and Indie again.

And for all you tards saying you are removing mods so you can install the patch even after Pescado told your asses it serves no god damned purpose you are idiots performing voodoo that does nothing.

99% of "mods" are package files that reside in the Mods subdirectory that you created. You. Not the game. The game has nothing to do with that and it will never look there.

Now if by "mod" you mean an ini or shader package or else something that does not normally reside in the Mods directory or one of its subdirectories then yes, you will need to remove that but not just remove it you will need to restore the original file that you replaced or modified.

Now it's possible there may be some conflicts with certain mods, particularly core ones, and the patch, but that in and of itself will not prevent the game from patching.

The first patch gave me huge issues when it came time to install it. I finally had to uninstall my game and reinstall it to get it to patch. And lost LOTS of stuff in the process even though they shouldn't have gone anywhere. So today I moved my Mods folder to my desktop etc. And the patch won't install. I get this:

Error: I/O operation failed (attribute modification)

Is this patch causing anyone else huge pathfinding difficulties? Ever since I installed it, my Sims haven't been able to access anything outside of the room that they are currently in, unless they walk into the room of whatever they were going to access before the queue comes up.

BTW, the first 3 "newly created" files in the windows part (Default.ini, GraphicsRules.sgr and TS3.exe) already exist, so I guess it's the patcher way to say "I'm going to substitute directly the whole file, no point in modify a few bits only".

Actually, there's another bunch of "new" created files, but they only show how much is retarded the guy who built the patcher, as they're useless files like .DS_Store which store the user's GUI preferences in Mac OS X (like, if he likes that folder show the files as a detailed list or icons, the color of the background, etc.).

If anyone uses Delphy's face slider hack or the Console debug enabler, they definitely are not compatible with the new patch, crashes out on the loading screen just after the intro video.  Delphy has confirmed facial hack will conflict.  One strange thing I have on my system, (also reported by a few others at MTS), the EA launcher now refuses to install Sims downloaded packages, unless you remove the packages folder from program files/electronics Arts/sims3/mods, easy enough to do with a cut and paste to your desktop, install your downloads via the launcher , then cut and paste the package folder back.  But it is annoying.  I have tried downloads of lots, clothing and shoes, same problem on all, not figured out the why yet, could be a funny pattern within the download, who knows.

99% of "mods" are package files that reside in the Mods subdirectory that you created. You. Not the game. The game has nothing to do with that and it will never look there.

Now if by "mod" you mean an ini or shader package or else something that does not normally reside in the Mods directory or one of its subdirectories then yes, you will need to remove that but not just remove it you will need to restore the original file that you replaced or modified.

Now it's possible there may be some conflicts with certain mods, particularly core ones, and the patch, but that in and of itself will not prevent the game from patching.

I'm actually a bit afraid to post this - I just updated my game entirely to the current 1.3.24 from what was a Razor install. I have awesomemod configured, with cd check disabled, but alas I am unable to start the game. (No Game Disk Found!) Pops up at me.

I have the installer monkey erm.. installed, which is how I installed both awesomemod files, and I believe I deleted the cache file..

Is my problem that like a blonde I have missed a glaringly obvious step, or did the update break the awesomemod nocd fix?

I'm having the same problem. Route failures all over the place. Sims can't find their way to anything in another room. They will stand around complaining about it until they pass out.

Does anyone have a link to the 1.2.7 update so I can reinstall?

You missed the glaringly obvious step of checking to see if Pescado had updated AwesomeMod to work with the latest patch, which he hasn't. ;)

Just wait until he does, (probably by this time tomorrow) and then re-download AwesomeMod and then your game should work fine.

It not this patch related since it was already acting that way for me and I have yet to install this patch, if I keep trying installing it would eventually install the damn thing.

I was thinking exactly that, which is why I came here to see if there was any early indication of possible incompatibilities. Awful long list of fixes; I actually dozed off while reading it (long day at the gym). Could it be that the game is as ~BUGGY~ as everyone was saying it was?

I did notice that my low end laptop will now be able to see roofs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Look in your temp folder for a directory with an alfanumeric string (for me {E1F84AB6-D46A-43C7-A056-D3C7795DBB21}), and read the rtpatch.log file. It will tell you what file it crapped out on.

Well, I tried searching for this, as I get a "file not found" error; but, I can't seem to locate anything similar on my system. I'm running Vista(BLARGH!) if that's any help. I hate being nonawesome.

I can't install the latest patch as well even though I have restored all the modified files. I get the "Update Error : File Not Found" message. Not sure what I've done to bork up my game but if I reinstalled the previous patch version 1.2.7.**001 it works fine.

Already noticed an audio issue with the game. I'm not sure if this has to do with AwesomeMod and Indie running with the new patch but when walls are up and you are in a room, all audio from that room sounds as if it is coming from the next room. To make it clearer: Usually when a sim is running on the tredmill, in that room the audio is loud and clear, but next door the audio is lower and muffled because the walls are blocking the sound. However with the new patch, when the walls are up, if you are in the room, it sounds like you are next door; and when you are next door, it sounds like you are in the room with the tredmill. Make sense?

I've never replaced or messed with the baker.package. I have one there anyway (went looking), no idea what the problem is or how to fix it. I have a legit purchased EA downloadable form of the game.

Do you think I'm going to have to reinstall just to get this sorted?

**edit** NM, I forgot to revert my TSLhost.dll file. And I was eventually able to find my rtpatch.log file, but not by searching. I instead had to manually search all my temp folders which is how I found out that the TSLhost was the problem.

Make sure you are searching hidden files and folders too.  Mine was located under C:\Documents and Settings\MyFiles\Local Settings\Temp\{3897403E-73D3-4283-B421-5A99DA7AACFD} .  Local Settings is a hidden folder and it's contents won't show up unless you are searching hidden folders as well.

For those who are having troubles due to overwritten game files, try making a habit of keeping the original files in the original location with a .off extension so they can be easily searched and swapped back.  It's simpler than trying to remember changes and hunt down original files later on.

Whenever I replace something, I simply zip the original first (is easier on OS X since you don't even need to type, only rightclick -- apart from the fact that it saves space for stuff you're not actually using).

OS X question: it is driving me batty that stupid Spotlight seems unable to search for stuff inside .apps; does anyone know of a workaround/alternative for that? Would make it easier to actually *search* for those zipped files, instead of having to look for them (as in eyeball).

That is the file that would be replaced for the censor blur remover, if you removed the blur (without using Rick's no mosaic mod), then you have changed that file.

Shaders_Win32.precomp was altered to get rid of the censorblocks (at least before uncensor.mod was available).
So if you don't have the censor you must have exchanged the file :D :D

I just rename anything that's going to be replaced like this TS3.exe.org and during patching I rename the exchanged files like this: TS3.exe.crk
That way not only do I have all files in the correct directory, but as well you can see at once, what has been replaced.

Just a note:
I temporaily removed my mod-file and installed the patch.
I hav awesome (the today post), Indie, nointro and nomosaic hacks.
I cleared the four cache-files and installed the mods.
The program started without problems but when I click the lot I want to play I have a CTD.
After romoving the enablescripterror.package the game works without problem for now (one hour playing different lots)
Just want to tell... ;D

Fuck, I have replaced, replaced, and replaced the gameplay.package file because that's what's throwing errors (according to the log), and it's still giving off errors.  I guess I need to redo the whole lot of Bin?  I didn't have this much trouble with the last craptastic patch.

Look in your temp folder for a directory with an alfanumeric string (for me {E1F84AB6-D46A-43C7-A056-D3C7795DBB21}), and read the rtpatch.log file. It will tell you what file it crapped out on.
This is my problem, but no matter the source, (have tried using the file from cd, from download, etc) the installer is hating on Sims3GDF.dll . Oy.

My update was unsuccesful several times, I DID removed all of my Mods and I didn't have any .ini edited files, it just couldn't update my game properly, so this is what I did in order to get this crap working:


1. I made a Back-Up of My Documents folder (For the saved games and downloads).

2. Uninstalled the game.

(In my case the uninstaller was all f*cked up (what a surprise don't you think? ::)), so I had to manually delete the game folder from the installation directory, then I opened the RegEdit and searched for every trace of TS3, in this case I just searched for Electronic Arts, since I had no other EA game installed atm (thank heaven  :P), then I erased the folders containing all those Electronic Arts values, but I had to check very well what I was erasing, don't do it if you don't know what the hell you're doing, otherwise you'll damage your programs or even your OS. And with that done, that was it, no more TS3.)

3. Then I re-installed the game, as usual.

4. After that I applied the 1st patch.

5. And finally this new patch ran correctly.


NOTE: You HAVE to run your game without any Mods after you re-installed and patched it, that way your game will create again the files to run properly, after you do that, exit the game and restore your backed-up data, you're also free now to re-add the mods that you want, but you need to watch out for the updates of the Core Mods only, or the game will crash (How blessing is EA 8)).

Have you Re-installed from blank and then applied the 1st patch right after? Also make sure to have the correct version of the patches (US/WW/EU/DD).

Kerryee except you left out one thing.  Pescado can always dish out anything better than what EA gives out.  Always get the EA patches less work for Pescado.  But, on most cases more work.  But, Pescado can dish out a fix in 24 hours of a patch.  Wonders if Pescado works for EA.  That patch was close to an exact duplicate of Awesome Mod and coincidence just weeks after the Awesome/IndieStone Mod.  There is no coincidence there is The Force.

Pescado could eat EA developers alive.  Without Pescado, SIMs communities would be boring.

Yes, fresh-install. When I last uninstalled I deleted everything that I could find that had to do with TS3. A month later I got the urge to play, the very same day the new patch was released. Got around to installing today then tried to apply the patch right after. I tried the correct version, supposedly, but I'll try another version just for the hell of it to see what happens.

I join the reinstall crowd, but with a fun new twist. 

I had to uninstall (which in my case worked, with my System Mechanic), reinstall, run both patches, re-up my saved data, mods, downloads, etc, and then I crossed my fingers and gave it a go.... epic fail.  My Legacy house (and actual, whole town I later found out), became entirely unplayable for me.  I had no thumbnails, no abilities to interact with anything.  Didn't matter where I went or which house I went to, I got to watch the Sims play themselves.  Removing mods and trying again made no difference, so I figured I somehow corrupted my saved data, and decided, reluctantly, to start a new neighborhood again.

This time I decided to try Riverview, since I have no luck with Sunset Valley.  Loaded it up, grabbed my Legacy founder from the Library, and for some reason, couldn't buy a blank plot of land... any plot of land.  Why?  Because for some inane reason, they all cost multi-millions of dollars!  Every freakin' property and house in Riverview either cost upwards of 1 mil or absolutely nothing.  So, just as a test, I decide to load up a random pre-set family from there, just to find out how borked my game really is.  Never loaded.  After an hour of it saying it was still loading, I gave up.  I am now redoing my game again.

It is a mess.  I only downloaded the damn thing because I noticed that Pes had updated AM to be compatible, and I've spent the last six hours of my day trying different tactics to get it to install before finally giving up and reinstalling the game (only to run into uninstalling AND reinstalling problems).

It's acting different ways with different users, so I don't know if a guide would help at this point.  Hell, chanting and voodoo are tried and true practices; you'd have better luck with those.

Unless it hangs on the Launcher (as in my case) which you can't replace with an original file from the CD or iso, so you're stuck reinstalling the game.

The game started up fine, the neighborhood loaded fine.
The only problem I've had--that I've discovered, anyway--is that I had a boatload of sims who were stuck outside their places of work. They'd been at work when I saved last before installing the patch and new AM. Their shifts had all been over for hours--or maybe an entire day--their motives were in the red, and they were stuck there in their uniforms, with the "work" tone selector/progress bar still up.  Canceling it and telling them to go home did nothing. I had to find and reset each and every one of them, and if there is a way to reset every sim in the whole damn town at the same time I wish I had known about it.
Oh and there was a stray limo stuck outside City Hall. Otherwise, everything seems fine so far.
Remarkably smooth install for an EA patch, really.

Why in heaven's name would you apply the French patch to the English version and what genius at EA allowed such a thing to be possible?

As for 'installing' Awesomemod you don't need the Delphy tool. That's for the lazy. Just drop the damned thing in C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Mods\Packages or the Hacks subdirectory under packages and call it good. Make sure you have the resource.cfg though. The Delphy tool should install that.

Now as for the Delphy tool not recognizing it, it should recognize a package file.

Please tell me you unzipped it after you downloaded it. :P

By the way, what's with the crack? Shouldn't we wait until the crack is updated to newest version?

I installed the 1.3 patch still using the 1.2.7 crack, latest AwesomeMod and Indie Stone mod, it worked fine. Before I patched it, I just cut the entire mod folder on desktop, put it back after the patch installed, delete all the cache files in C:\Documents and Settings\User\My Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3 folder. It didn't crash and the game ran smoothly. (I have the retail version.)

Okay so I can't get my game to patch, I even uninstalled and reinstalled. I have no mod file in there, I even removed my downloads folder. I'm still getting the invalid file error. I have windows vista, and I still can't find half the stuff on this damn thing. I had to use to a outside uninstaller, Revo Uninstaller, to uninstall the sims 3 because it wouldn't even uninstall for me so I had to do an manual uninstall. Any ideas?
Finally got it to work by uninstalling again, and re-reinstalling, then redownloading the patch.

Maybe it is, maybe it's not, I've been playing for 3 hours now and I haven't noticed anything weird happened yet. I guess I'll find out soon if it is heading towards BFBVFS.

You're still running 1.27 so there's no point in even bothering going through the trouble unless you care about the few other minor things EA updated like burying some blurb in the readme that Adaptive Antialiasing doesn't work well with this game on ATI cards.  ::)

I was perusing  the thread and this jostled my curiosity. I installed 1.3 no problem, and I still run from the TS3.exe that came with the game .iso (razor release)
So if I am using the 1.27 TS3.exe after the 1.3 patch, I'm not running the latest version but rather 1.27? I don't see how that works since its running fine with the newest awesome mod build.
Will it make a diff if I just pull the file out now? How is it defeating the purpose of the patch?

I give up.  After reinstalling my game 3 times trying to get the damn thing patched AND working, I still have fail.  This last time, I thought it was working, until 2 minutes into gameplay, my new character froze.  Everything around her worked, but she was a statue, and so were her stats.  So I reset her, try again with a new task, and she not only freezes, but disappears.

I'm reinstalling vanilla again, patching to 1.2.7, and then calling it for now.  It was working just fine with the glitches.

I've not experienced any crashing on my macbook (yet), but what is your gameplay like?

After installing the patch onto my mac, the game lags and freezes like crazy, even with all the settings changed to low. It now freezes for 2-3 seconds everytime I scroll or zoom, and I'm wondering if it has something to do with the supposed "fix" for the shadows listed in the description.

My game won't patch. I tried several times, and I can't figure out why it's not working. The first patch didn't give me any problems. The first time I tried I got "Update Error: Invalid File Found" but it didn't tell me which file was invalid. The next time I tried, I got "The Sims 3 Update cannot continue because programs associated with The Sims 3 are currently running. Please stop these applications before attempting to update The Sims 3." At that time, all I had running was the launcher. I really can't figure out what's wrong. I haven't changed anything with any of the files. And I only have a few downloads, mainly AM and a few clothing, hair, patterns, and default skintones. I tried removing my Mods folder and trying to patch, but it still failed. Is there anything I'm missing that I should try?

My sim has become extremely ... slow?  :-\  In between every single action she does, she stops and stands still for several sim minutes. Poor thing was starving by the time she got dinner made. Go to fridge .. stand still for a few minutes.. open fridge .. stand still for a few minutes.. get ingredients .. stand still for a few minutes .. walk to food processor .. stand still.. And it's not that the game is lagging, the minutes on the clock are moving along normally and animations like the stereo and water spouting out of the broken shower are perfectly smooth.

@ShortyBoo: Mods are no problem (like Pes already stated, those are new folders that are not involved in the patch process).
To find out where the patch process choked, you'll have to find the most recent file rtpatch.log on your drive, open it with any editor and scroll down to the last line. The exact location of said file depends on your OS and your login account.

Typical candidates for easily overlooked, altered files would be:
"C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\GameData\Shared\NonPackaged\Ini\VideoCamera.ini" (better camera mod).
"C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Game\Bin\Shaders_Win32.precomp" (the old censor remover ).
"C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Game\Bin\TS3.exe" (No CD Patch).
"C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Game\Bin\TSLHost.dll" (also delivered with some no-CD patch).

The Launcher must be closed during patching since it might or might not be altered by the patch and  the OS usually denies the modification of files in use through patches.

I ran the patch and it worked perfectly, even with all mods installed, because I live dangerously like that. Without running the game, I installed new awesome mod update, deleted scriptscache, then ran the game and it's still alive.

So, here's a helpful new voodoo spell: delete the scriptscache.

(Bare in mind I have a Reloaded-to-Razor that I had to fix way back with the first patch. So Reloaded/Razor users should probably look into that.)

I am having the same problem -- takes the Sims like 2 hrs to get supper done... plus I cannot just click on the bed to have them go to bed -- they just stand around as if they are blocked by something... I have to get them to go to the stairs, then up the stairs, then to the bedroom door, then through the door and then to bed....  The arrival of the schoolbus/carpool cannot get them to go to it... they stay lost in the house or yard... I have to direct them step by step to the bus/car....

I agree.  It's also useful because although I prefer to use Awesomemod, my wife prefers to run without any mods.  I also prefer having a cracked TS3.exe because if I do remove Awesomemod, I don't need the DVD.

Eureka! I kept getting the "File Not Found" error, even though I had put back the original shaders and videocamera files. Then, I remembered that I had removed the default family packages from the library. I copied those back in from the cd, and it updated just fine.

I haven't tried running it yet...  :o

Well, it turned out to be erroring on SkyCommon.ini which is a file I never even heard of, and since I never changed any of my files, I know I didn't do it. I'll grab the original file from the disc and hopefully that will fix it.

Edit: Well, I replaced the SkyCommon.ini with the one from the disc (the files were the same size, the only difference was the date) and the game patched. I still haven't tried playing, but at least I got that out of the way.

When I was looking for the file I had to replace, I noticed that there are config files for different sky states, like stormy, cloudy, etc. which makes me wonder if they started to put weather in, but in the end decided to take it out, just like they did with TS2.

Well, I think I've officially fucked my game up with this patch. Are any other mac users having success with this thing? I tried uninstalling/reinstalling, but the freezing and lag is still unbearable, and on top of that the most expensive desk is one giant black mess. I tried reinstalling and not updating to the patch, but the game won't run without the first mac patch, which apparently has been rolled into this most recent one since I can't find it anywhere else.

I'd really like to smack whatever idiot(s) at EA did this.

Edit: it is not the patch per se, as it works perfectly without the mod folder, with quick saves too.

Just reinstalled afresh and patched. On Mac. The game is nearly unplayable, vanilla.
We got (at last!) shadows and smooth edges, but if you turn them on the lag and slowness are incredible. BTW, the game is a lot more slow even with those new settings off: in short, it sucks MORE than before.

To top everything, there's no way to have awesomemod work. With enablescripterror it crashes at load screen, without enablescriptetc. it hangs indefinitely. No difference with or without physical DVD - the game never asks for DVD, even with DisableCDCheck disabled: it hangs and stop. I want to cry.

ETA: Nevermind. That FUCKER of a patch deleted my d3dx9_31.dll. Restored the dll, it loads.

Okay, now I've got real problems. First, the patch wouldn't completely install. It came up with the "File not found" error. I removed all mods and CC, tried again, same error. I made sure the original .exe and .dll files were installed, same error. I replaced all the .ini files with the original files just in case, same error.

So I figured, fine, the game still says it's version 1.2.07, I'll just keep playing that. Only I couldn't play it, it kept crashing to the desktop as soon as it reached the screen where you choose a neighborhood/family to play. With or without any mods or CC, the same thing happened. Quaint note, the first time I tried to load the game after the patch failure, I got a popup notice telling me the Awesomemod expired on July 15, 2009 and I had to download and install the latest version. Which I did, and still the game crashed.

So I tried to uninstall the game and it told me I couldn't uninstall until I completed the patching. I gave up and deleted the Electronics Arts folder and tried to reinstall. It told me the version I was trying to install (1.0.631) is older than the one already installed (1.2.07) and I have to uninstall the newer one first. I deleted everything I could find with "Sims 3" on it, including the registry entry. The installer is still detecting an installation of version 1.2.07 and won't let me reinstall.

I have the Reloaded retail version.

What else do I have to locate and eliminate before this effing game will reinstall?  >:(

Did you search the register for everything "Electronics Arts" and "Sims" related? There must still be entries in there. Uninstall the EA Downloader too if you can.

I uninstalled the downloader, I searched the registry and removed everything that I could find that pertained to Sims 3 and the goddamn installer still tells me I have to uninstall the patched (v. 1.2.07) game before I can reinstall.

What the FUCK is going on here? Just how many clandestine files has this POS software crammed onto my computer? I'm at a complete loss. I don't know what else to do, short of a complete system reinstall, which I've never done and don't want to attempt. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Check your Temp folder (checking to make sure it's not hidden first, of course).  The patch puts a shitload of corrupted files in there.

Yes, I have cleaned out the temp folder.

I also ran CC Cleaner as well as TuneUp Utilities to clean the registry before I went in manually to try to find out what was keeping the game "alive."

Nothing works! I thought I was pissed at EA before, but this fiasco is absolutely boiling my blood.  >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

Try going through all of that just to double check. I did everything it told me and my game was completely uninstalled after I was done, allowing me to happily reinstall. Make sure you delete EVERYTHING from your HD pertaining to the sims. (I actually left the stuff in My Documents for the game though and it still installed correctly. Shrug.)

I have the Mac digital download version. There is no 1.3 patch for my version, EA admits on their site that they don't have one yet. So, since I can't get the Unholy Hybrid to work at all, I am going with previous AwesomeMod version (and not mentioning any bugs or problems) until I can figure out a way to patch. Even Mac patches on other sites don't work. Ugh. Any suggestions - either for getting the 1.3 patch somewhere that works for the dd version, or else to get the Unholy Hybrid to work - would be very welcome.

That NoCD crack I linked to earlier works fine.  It's also the proper 1.3.24 version.

I managed to upgrade from 1.2.7 to 1.3.24 without a single issue.

Thank you very, very much for that link. I discovered several files that needed to be deleted, in places I never would have thought to check. I also discovered that SecuROM was installed on my system again. I thought EA swore up and down it wasn't going to use SecuROM with TS3. Now I discover that installing the EADM infects your computer. So what are we supposed to do to install store content, arred or otherwise?

This crap is turning me off TS3 big time. But I do thank you for the advice, at least I've got the thing reinstalled and completely patched, and I know how to wipe it completely off when I decide I've had enough of it. Which shouldn't be long, at this rate.

For what it's worth, I just thought I'd post that I managed to install the patch (Razor) and have NO issues with my game. I was already patched up to the previous version. I wasn't originally going to patch, mainly because I had no major game issues, but then I decided I missed Awesomemod too much. Besides, I was reading all the panic about this patch and the breaking of games, and that was a bit of a turn off, too. But ultimately I decided, meh, it's just a game. I can reinstall.

So the first time I tried to patch I got an Invalid File error. Looking in rtpatch.log, I saw the file was the TSLhost.dll file, so I restored the original, and it patched just fine. I used the patch Pescado posted at the beginning of this thread, NOT the launcher.

I did NOT remove ANY mods, patterns, or other CC, since I remembered reading something by Motoki (I think?) and Pescado that said you didn't need to.

My game is running just fine after installing the newest version of Awesomemod. No errors, all CC is showing up fine, no issues with my saves or odd Sim behaviour. Maybe I just got lucky, or maybe it was a result of not modding my game. (I know some people have downloaded big overhauls.) I'm not using a NoCD crack, because Awesomemod has taken care of that. (Hurray!) I'm not seeing any big performance fixes or anything with this new patch, but I hadn't really expected to. (Sims seem to idle a lot less, but I don't know if that counts.)

Obviously a lot of people are having trouble with this patch, and I feel bad for them. But at the same time I'm mildly annoyed by all the "THIS PATCH WILL RUIN YOUR GAME DON'T DOWNLOAD IT A BLOO BLOO BLOO" I've been seeing. It really had me paranoid, and ultimately for no reason. Yes, absolutely you should post your experiences to get help and inform others, but there's a difference between a bug report and shouting "BOMB" in a crowded area.

Anyway, sorry for the long winded, pissy post. I know I'm not a regular forumer, and it's not my intention to get into a big dick-waving contest with anyone. (Especially since I don't have one!)

tl;dr: Patch worked after following instructions with no issue.

Just to inform I tried the link provided by GnatGoSplat and apparently it updated the game to V1.3.24.00002 without any problem.

the sims 3 is still a poor game but at least the crack works and the patch removes some critical issues like player-created families disappear or babies coming from nowhere

I'm okay so far after the reinstall and double patching. I'd saved my C:/My Documents/Electronic Arts folder before I deleted the actual game, and was I surprised to find that everything was still installed and working! All my saved games, my installed content, everything. I didn't expect that.

I used the Launcher to install a really nice lot, and no SecuROM showed up afterward so it really is just the Download Manager that's putting that shit out. As long as EA's pulling that crap they deserve to have their game, and their store crap, arred. What possible reasoning can they have to keep using that vile, universally hated, and easily circumvented program on their software?

Can somebody confirm that EA lied about scrapping the impact of specific meals on offsprings' genders but instead just scrapped the option to cook specific meals entirely? After patching my sims can't cook anything but generic meals, no apple pan cakes or apple whatsoever anymore...

In addition it seems that the general meal quality is lower also. I'm almost absolutely sure that my lvl10 chef with cooking trait was perfectly capable to cook some meals (beyond the obvious) in perfect quality before the patch but isn't anymore after the patch. I think it's because "refine" doesn't do anything anymore (not sure if it's "refine" in the english game, I'm referring to the interaction only sims with the cooking trait can do).

That NoCD crack I linked to earlier works fine.  It's also the proper 1.3.24 version.

I managed to upgrade from 1.2.7 to 1.3.24 without a single issue.

I am making apple pancakes just fine post patch.

In fact, one of my sims autonomously made flame fruit pancakes with the flame fruit I kept in his inventory to get the warm and fuzzy moodlet.  ::)

I should have known that being able to play for entire 3 weeks (since I own the game) without any real borkiness was bound to lead to some sort of punishment... Seems like the whole family is borked. In the meantime one Sim became unable to write his reports on the computer and then jumping bugs occured all over the place.

Any slim chance to resolve this? Is it possible to really reset a family without losing their family ties to sims in other households? (Might be to greedy to hope their job levels and relationships could be kept too.)

The use of fruit for cooking seems to go in alphabetical order. When my sims' household ran out of apples, they started using grapes, and then limes for stuff like pancakes. As long as you make sure to have plenty of apples in the fridge, then the fruit-using meals should always use apples.
I think they're using the ingredients 1st in quality order then in the order they're stocked. I had Sims make melon and grape and yes even life fruit pancakes when plenty of apples were in the fridge. And Sims always prefer ingredients that are in their personal inventory.

That's how they do it. I've experimented around. This is what I've determined:
- Use inventory over fridge
- Use higher quality over lower quality
- Use first item of that quality in inventory list (since apples are usually the first fruit grown, they are usually the first fruit in the inventory or fridge, unless you move them or clean them out).

Example:
Inventory order:
Great Flame Fruit
Bad Apple
Perfect Life Fruit
Perfect Watermelon
Sim makes Life Fruit pancakes.

In order to keep the flame fruit bonus on all cooking sims, I make sure they have only a lower-quality flame fruit along with higher quality other fruits. That is if I let them make pancakes at all. Usually I just have them "eat" under the supreme commander.

Well,  I had time to play for a long time in a new town with the patch. Still a lot of issues, and some new, as usual.
It did not solve at all the player-created families moving out of the game, making it impossible to play multiple families. This is a major issue, when a sim marries and moves temporarily out of the house he can disappear forever, and if you play him immediately then his former family can move.
After about 24h of game, 25% of my created families disappeared, and some sims moved from their own house to merge with another family.

Worse, I discovered the social need drops VERY quickly after patch.
Some "bad mood" ( sorry, my game is not english and I don't know how it is named) are stuck after their normal expiration time.
As eveyone, a lot more route failure now and some weird graphic glitches with the sims icons on mood change. ( they look like zombies until I quit and restart game)

I did not see newborn babies with a single parent, though, but perhaps I am just lucky.

I don't know for you, it probably depends of the way each one plays but the patch brought more problems than solutions for me. Really not worth installing.

Edit : Good news ! After all the patch works for my gamestyle.
Finally the player-made sims don't disappear. They are moved randomly from a house to another. Only built-in sims are removed from game, but not always, some merge to custom made houses too. It's weird and rather hard to track but the game is now less frustrating. And after about a hundred hours still no monoparental babies appearing randomly.
