Title: Hidden/missing traits?
Post by: tedw on 2009 June 19, 15:12:21
I was poking around the game files in an attempt to see if I could find out where clothing categories are set for each item and stumbled across graphics for some traits that I haven't heard about or seen before.  Apologies if these are widely known:

(http://img3.imageshack.us/img3/820/missingtraits.jpg)

These are, in alpha order: Boring, Conversationalist, Crybaby, Dreamer, Easily Bored, Gloomy, Good Masseuse, Greedy, Materialistic, Quick Recovery, Rude, Shy, Stubborn, Sweet Talker, Vain, Wanton and Worrywart.

I wondered if perhaps some are linked to careers in the same way "Can Salute" or "Can Apprehend Burglar" may be; for example, Sweet Talker could be linked to the Political career, Good Masseuse to the part-time Spa career or Quick Recovery to the Medical career.

However, the others do not seem to be career rewards or lifetime rewards, so I would guess these are traits that were not included.  However, some stubs of them may be present and inactive.  Could anyone who knows more about the code, or has looked around it at more, offer any opinions?

Edit: There also appear to be CAS animations for Boring, Crybaby, Dreamer, Gloomy, Materialistic, Rude, Shy, Vain and Worrywart in the files, as well as Paranoid and Stupid [not in the icons above].  Perhaps there's more of these traits left in the game?

Hey, Pescado, did you enable these in awesome?

I searched through all the XML in GamplayData.package for a couple of them...  Nothing for Wanton, in Idles it mentions the Materialistic trait, in Socializing it mentions the Greedy trait.  Haven't found anything interesting yet though.

EDIT: Something slightly interesting in Socializing XML;
Code:
<ActiveTopic>
  <Name>Loser Trait</Name>
  <Forgettable>0</Forgettable>
  <StaticPriority>100</StaticPriority>
  <Text>CrybabyTrait</Text>
  <AvailableForOtherSim>1</AvailableForOtherSim>
  <UsedUpAfterDoneOnce>0</UsedUpAfterDoneOnce>
 </ActiveTopic>
Did Crybaby become Loser?

It would make sense - others such as Materialistic or Vain may have become Snob.  I'd like to try and find a way to view the animation files which seem to still be there for some of them [inside FullBuild0.package].

It would make sense if they had merged two of the more useless ones into one marginally less useless trait. This is very interesting, and I'd love to know whether the code for them is still in the game and can be enabled.

Yeah, I've seen things in XML relating Boring to No Sense of Humor and Worrywart to Neurotic

Where do you find these XML files? And is there anything in there about changing household sizes? ;)

You use a program like S3PI to extract everything from GameplayData.package.  It results in 2,278 XML files that take up 13.4MB.  Considering the amount of data, I've only scratched the surface, but I doubt an XML tweak would let you override the household limit.

I'd actually love to use some of these, as the in-game traits don't really suit me as well as some of these: I'm stubborn, not hotheaded. And just because I'm a dreamer doesn't mean I have to be absent-minded.

I'm disappointed they nixed traits like Shy or Materialistic.  I can see how there is a similarity between some of these traits and others, but having more choice is fun - saying a character is Vain versus a Snob, for example.  Some in the game seem to overlap anyways (Charismatic and Schmoozer offer some of the same, or similar, interactions).

I'd really love Paranoid in particular, but I think there's less chance some of that remains given I found less references to it.

Chiming in here to say that being vain or materialistic is not the same as being a snob, really.  It's a bit crap that they just lumped them together without bothering to think through the differences between them.

Shy and Stubborn would be nice, Loner's not bad as it is but it's certainly not all that great.  I'm a loner, but I don't feel like shit if I'm around three other people.  That's more in the territory of "Avoidant" than "Loner".

I wish they would have put shy in.  I'm shy to the extreme but not at all a loner.

Even worse; they spelled it wrong, then.
