Title: What exactly is wrong with Mrs. Crumplebottom?
Post by: timelycorruption on 2009 March 07, 01:05:21
I come from TSR where this question is always answered with "AJDSLDSJF JUST DON'T DO IT DON'T TOUCH IT STUPID WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU DON'T TOUCH HER YOU BLEW UP THE UNIVERSE OH MY GOD WEDSLFSDFAA."
So since you all are the most knowledgable of the comm, I would truly love to get an answer. Mrs. Crumplebottom--she's dangerous, when she goes up in the air, she's not safe. And I'd like to know why.
Thanks.  ;D

Mrs. Crumplebottom's data is contained within the core game datafiles. This means any attempt to "modify" Crumplebottom results in modifying the core datafiles. Modifying the core datafiles is, of course, a bad thing.

Why thank you!

I've read somewhere that the game treats her like an object. It makes sense to me; she really doesn't behave like a sim does. I was also advised that creaturefixes is absolutely necessary because otherwise vampires may try to bite her, which causes huge amounts of problems because she isn't technically a sim at all.

I do scour threads however this is the first time I've read anything on this issue, ty for the info.   When you say "modify" are you only talking about simpe-type global changes or are you also meaning animarion/interactions with Crumplebottom in game? (concerned about autonomous mods or selectors specifically).

Anything which results in a permanent state change to Mrs. Crumplebottom is out. Therefore, do not do any of the following.
1. Kill Mrs. Crumplebottom
2. Turn Mrs. Crumplebottom into any form of creature.
3. Attempt to alter Mrs. Crumplebottom's appearance or character data in any way either inside or outside of the game.

Things you CAN do:
1. Poke and otherwise argue with Mrs. Crumplebottom.
2. Delete her from the lot using move_objects, Ingelogical, or any other zappers.
3. Hijack Mrs. Crumplebottom's code to create sim-Vtardrancher.

Got it.  I was a little confused because the few times I made her selectable ( which of course you can't do for long) she registered wants of romancing Don Lothario & *gulp!* adopting a baby.  That had me thinking maybe she was destiined to marry him or something & I never knew, lol.  I guess he'll have to move on.  Thanks for clarifying that.

That is peculiar, as I only attempted to make her selectable once for photo reasons.  I noticed that she did not seem to have many of the ordinary options normal Sims do.  Common sense kicked in and I deselected her and fooled with her no more.

If for some reason, you simply can't resist playing with Crumplebottom, Grim, the Social Bunny et. al., there are extracted normal Sim versions available on the Exchange and elsewhere.  They don't exhibit their specialist NPC coding, but that is a small price to pay.  I put them all in an Asylum and had a splendid time watching my neighborhood not blow up.

Community lots. Go take a sim on a date Downtown and the old bag is bound to be there. However, if you use TJ's VC then she is banned by default.

Is deleting 2 Social Bunnies dangerous? Quick test looked fine - sim hit red social, new bunny generated and did the usual. But I'd like some confirmation that it's actually ok.

Social Bunnies are ok, they're like other regular NPCs, the odd-interactable kind (like bus drivers, social workers, etc.), but they're spawned as a copy like the others.

The objects.package NPCs are, IIRC: Mrs. Crumplebottom, Grim Reaper, Pollination Tech, Hula Zombie, all the NPCs from Festive/Holiday SPs (Father Time, Santa, Baby New Year, etc.).

In my new cemetery/playground community lot (owned by Marvin the Servo) Mrs. C ran a poker game for a solid 12 sim hours.  Apparently she is a bit of a gambler, as long as everyone stays dressed and with their hands on the table where everyone can see them.

Marvin the Servo went into social aspiration failure (how you do that on a community lot full of other sims I don't know), but replenished the social and fun bars by beating up the Social Bunny.

LOL! Such a perfect scenario for a Servo named Marvin :D

she also climbs out of the garden club wishing well if a sim is so importunate as to wish for romance too many times.  then she stalks them and beats them up. :)

No, deleting bunnies is safe.

I've opened up Clean and Fixed HP's Uber-Megahood (http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php/topic,14537.0.html) and Sim Browser lists following Objects.package NPCs: Therapist, Grim Reaper, Hula Zombie, Pollination Technician, Bigfoot Bigfoot, Witch Doctor, Genie, Rod Humble, Crumplebutt, Stinky Skunk, Ideal Plantsim, Spectral Assistant, Good Witch Cat. 3 Holiday NPCs (Father Time, Toddler New Year and Santa Claus) are also included with that hood (their filename listed in Sim Browser is H05.bundle).

- What does that mean, compatibility wise? Does this hood requires Holiday Pack? It *shouldn't* require NL and UNI, but it does requires Seasons, so Crumplebottom is fine, right? It should also require Pets and BV but one downloader reported that it behaves pretty much fine without those two packs (I should still test it) - game reports that those two packs are uninstalled, all the families are brought back from vacations and the pets are gone. Cyd Roseland shows up in the bin with the dog still in thumbnail, but the dog is actually gone, of course. But what would the presence of BV Objects.package NPCs in this hood do for someone without BV?
(FYI, HP's hood actually has 4 small strays even though it's made without Pets installed and Pets EP is not required for it. I deleted those strays, is that ok?)

- Spectral Assistant is a witch cat too, right? Does this mean that the "Bad Witch Cat" is missing, or that the Good Witch Cat shouldn't be there at all?

Title: Re: What exactly is wrong with Mrs. Crumplebottom?
Post by: J. M. Pescado on 2009 March 16, 23:46:45
No, Spectral Assistant is a different NPC. THere may not actually be a seperate cat for good/bad, I think the cat morphs.

Let's suppose for a moment that we could extract all of Mrs.C's resources - the ones scattered among the core files - and put them all together in a package that we could drop into the Characters folder.

Would it then be possible to make changes to Mrs.C - such as change appearance, move in, etc - that would apply only to our overriding package?

Title: Re: What exactly is wrong with Mrs. Crumplebottom?
Post by: J. M. Pescado on 2009 March 18, 07:21:10
Yes, but you'd have to do it manually in the override package, or there's no telling what might happen and where the game decides to write the results.

I had a vampire bite Mrs. C while I was otherwise occupied with 2 Sims having sex across the room. When I saw what was happening I shouted OH SHIT! I thought my game was going to crash. I had JM's vampwerewolves mod and I think it saved my game from crashing. I have Seasons now and still use that mod. For some reason the creature fix mod doesn't work as good. I had vampires biting the hell out of NPCs, Townies, and Playable Sims. I put the vampwerewolves mod back in and now when the vamps show up they just blah all the time. Unless, of course, you make friends with them. Thanks JM for your cool mods.

Uh...you know, the creaturefixes mod and the vampwerewolf mod is the same thing, except renamed, right? You're saying you had a crumplebottom attack even with that installed? You're certain?

Yes, for sure. But she didn't change to a vamp and the game didn't crash. She just kind of jumped for a second. Since I put the creaturefixes mod in the vamps went wild. So the only thing I could think of was maybe since the creaturefixes was for EPs later then Seasons that was why. Since they are the exact same mod, then I really don't know why that happened.  So I put the vampwerewolf mod back in and so far no problems. Although I keep an eye out for Vamps when I'm playing a community lot. I read once where if you change the properties on the Object.package file to Read Only then even if Mrs. C gets bit it won't crash your game. So I had that changed too. Just trying to cover all bases.

Something does not sound right here.  I have had Mrs.C and the grand vampire in the same comm lot several times and the grand vampire sits and chats, dances the night away, and uses the dance sphere, but does not bite anyone.  I would suspect a hack conflict or other such "tight pants" if you have the vampwerefixes installed and it is not working to specs.  This might also be why, when the vampire bites someone in your game, you get a "jump".  Jump is generally a sign of an error.  Do you play with "testingcheatsenabled true" (debug mode on)?

The only vampire mods showing a conflict is shaklins vampire bite mod. Squinges vampire sleep naked mod does not show any conflict. I know it is non awesome but its one of those mods I frequently use. It allows me to control my sim vampires with the option to bite and turn someone into a vampire, or bite and kill them, or bite and add or subtract days to their lives which can make them pass out. I lode it after Pescados mod. I thought Pescado said in the creaturefix mod that it was updated. I am non awesome so I can only guess that what ever was updated shouldn't affect the mod. But since I put vampwerefixes back in, my vamps stopped going on a biting spree but I've been keeping an eye on them just in case.

They're probably conflicting anyway, even if the detector doesn't spot those conflicts. Pes' vamp/creature fixes have - relatively speaking - complex BHAV modifications: they're not simple tweaks of already existing BHAVs.
When I was trying to make a mod for vampire behaviour, I had to work a lot, and roll a huge part of creaturefixes in it, to have it play nicely and preserve the fixes.

From what I saw, I would say that any mod involving vampires will conflict with creaturefixes. What probably happened in jerryking game is that the Non Awesome(tm) mod was loaded after creaturefixes (thus overriding its code) and the later addeed vampwerefix overrode the Non Awesome(tm) mod, thus reinstating the fix.

Strange, I could never make her selectable. The only option in the pie menu when I shift-click on her was "force error".

I hardly ever see her anymore in sims2,  when I do she is usually bowling but in sims1 she was a holy terror.

She used to beat my sims half to death with that darn purse if they even flirted.

I had some kind of hack where she came to your house in sims1,  she would beat you up in your own house for making out, even if you were married.   Sheesh!!   ;D

I had some kind of hack where she would wear an old fashion 1920 bathing outfit too,  it was a hoot.

Marriages didn't actually exist in Sims 1. They had something CALLED that, but it was just move in. There wasn't an actual marriage.

I think you're reading too much into it. The simple explanation is simply that the "Default Gender" of a sims in TS1 was "male", and "special NPCs", which had their behaviorset severely limited, simply never concerned themselves with it. The opposite is true in TS2, which is why the Grim Reaper, for instance, tags as "Female" instead.
