Title: Stretched and Flattened Clothes:Pictures Added
Post by: Kala on 2009 January 14, 00:52:42
I have a few pieces of clothing in Bodyshop/CAS that don't show up properly in my game.  The outfits in question look like when you put a short skirt texture on a long skirt mesh back in the TS1 days. Other outfits don't show any non-maxis 3D details.(will take pics later)   I have the needed meshes.  I've made sure the meshes and recolors are compatible with the EPs I have.  What the hell is going on?  How can I fix this problem?
BTW:I compress my files before I put them in the game.

That's weird: I use the same clothes and they work just fine. Have you tried to have in-game sim actually wear that dress? I mean, apart of the "buy clothes" preview, have sim buy and then wear those?

Marhis, that's how I found out something wasn't right about the mesh.  I made a sim in CAS and threw the two inch skirt on her.  When I moved her into a house, the skirt looked like it does in the buy preview.

I can tell you that the difference in the two previews is due to the thumbnail for the CAS version not being updated.

The skin used to work?

You say you're sure there's nothing wrong with the mesh? I reckon you probably have a conflicting mesh somewhere. It's over-riding the mesh that skin is supposed to use. You're probably stuck with the old by-halves testing.

Where did you get those clothes? I want.

editted to finish post - was called into other room to fix foxtel box.

Mim, please explain halves testing to me.  I do need to refresh my CAS thumbnails.   I don't think I have even seen the clothes in question properly in my game.

Oh I got the sweater vests and the skirts at Garden of Shadows.

I have the same problem with a pair of goggles I downloaded that were cloned from the OFB scuba goggles.

I can put them on fine in CAS but when I get an adult sim to change their appearance in a mirror, the goggles show up has messed up recolors of the OFB goggles instead of the custom meshes, and it's not just the thumbnails, it shows up messed up in game. So the goggles pretty much only work on CAS sims that were made with the goggles on. I just thought the creator messed up when creating the meshes.  :(

Halves testing = the 50/50 method = binary search. Divide downloads folder in half, load game, check for issue. Continue until you figure out what is conflicting with what. (Making sure, I'd assume, to leave those meshes that you're having a problem with in so that you can actually test for the problem.)

If you have your downloads folder sorted into types you might be able to speed the search up by first removing all of the clothing except the 'problem' ones. If the error goes you know that the problem is in the clothng folder and then you can search through that by halves.

I used to sort everything by creator and site. Now I sort by where I'd find it in the game. It makes finding conflicts easier.

edit: Thanks for the skirts - the tops require me to register so I'm going to pass for the moment.

Are you sure?  GoS is open to anyone to read (or at least it used to be), and the download link points to mediafire, so you should be able to nab it...

You're right - It's just me not being able to see the link on that page.

The blonde streaks in my hair must be more powerful than the red ones today.

Thanks, got them now.
