Title: Tikki Islanders know nothing.
Post by: witch on 2008 December 20, 09:11:38
I used Inge's cat to make some CAS sims into Twikki Islanders. These islanders don't appear to know their gestures or dance. I found Madame Mim's post that said she used Theo's sim surgery tool to clone dummy islanders over the ones in the game, but I don't know how to do that. I also found the townie gun but am not sure how, or if it's possible, to make my islanders the full quid.

After I took out notownieregen, I also seem to have a bunch of EAxis sims - don't know if they're islanders or not.

I can't just delete the vacation spot as my sims have met many of the islanders.

What's the best solution to giving the islanders the skills they need? And making the EAxis islanders look like they should?

This has puzzled and frustrated me too, I have ended up just using the EAxis locals for each vacation hood. Not helpful to you, I suppose.

Argon made a hack (http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php/topic,9684.0.html) which can give correct tokens to CAS-made vacation locals.

I found Madame Mim's post that said she used Theo's sim surgery tool to clone dummy islanders over the ones in the game, but I don't know how to do that.
You need Theo's Alternate Sim Surgery Plugin (http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php/topic,3563.0.html) to use that technique. Unlike standard Sim Surgery, you don't have to make a useless dummy Sim. You can copy Bodyshop-made Sims onto your vacation locals.

As I already had bunch of fugly vacation locals foisted on me, and I didn't want to Delete'2 50+ characters, I used Theo's tool instead of Argon's hack. Applying Pescado's clothingtool after performing Sim Surgery cleans up character files. So far I didn't encounter any problem with Theo's tool.

OK. Found Argon's hack - oddly enough I even posted in that thread at the time but had completely forgotten in the interim.

I've read both the threads you linked to and downloaded the alternate surgery module just in case.

I'll let you know how it goes tomorrow, cheers for the links.

Poofs, why is your avatar suddenly non-Poofs?

Oh damn. Sprung.

'Cos it's cthulhu?

I thought it might make a nice holiday change. If you're too senile to cope, I could always go back to jingle-poofs.  :P

Double-posting here to let Lord Darcy know that her suggestion about Argon's hack seems to have done the job as far as gestures go. The locals are doing the gesture fine now. They still didn't do the hula on any of the comm lots I went to. The BV Inn had the ethno-world music speaker, but no local sims turned up at the Inn.

Instead of community lot speakers, try putting a regular stereo in community lots. Regular stereos seem to do a better job of initiating dance session than community lot speakers.

Might as well have the option of changing the station on a stereo, as the dumb "vacation-appropriate" speakers will, more often than not, just blare yodeling mountain songs at your island retreat.

Cool, I'll give that a go. I have just spent the whole evening making the EAxis tourists wear summer clothing.  ::)

Tomorrow night I'll send my test sim on holiday again. Will let you know if I have finally got the damn thing going!

For the BV locals I have used Argons Townie Brick.

I finally discovered why the sims weren't doing a spontaneous hula. I tried the stereos instead of speakers, that didn't work. I took all hacks out except FFS hacks. Still no hula.

Then I tried it without the dancepositioner hack and guess what? Instant hula. I updated the dancepositioner, it was just yesterday's release and tried again. No hula. Sims go to the speaker, pause, look at it for a bit as if making up their minds, then they go off to do something else.

So I guess I'll be playing without the dancepositioner for a while.
