Title: Shiftable signs, paintings and photos (AL) UPDATED 2010-06-29

Just like with normal paintings you need to use Ctrl+Alt or moveobjects on to place more than one on the same wall. Naturally, Apartment Life is required.
Please try out and let me know of any problems.

(additional attachment in post below)

UPDATE 2008-09-08: New version of easelpainting hack attached. Remove the old one.

UPDATE 2008-09-15: More stuff added, see this post (http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php/topic,12998.msg373270.html#msg373270).

Have you modified the originals or are these clones?

They're modifications, not clones.

Thanks a bunch.  I would rather have mods than extra copies of stuff cluttering up stuff.

From limited testing these seem to work fine. Thank you!

Is there anywhere I can read up on how to modify the BHAVs myself? There are a few custom objects I've been itching to move up and down walls.

I was wondering how long it would be before people started producing mods for the wall stuff Maxis missed.   ;D
These are great.   Would you consider or is it even possible to do this with the mirrors?  I was so looking forward to
be able to move the mirrors and for whatever reason they cannot be moved like paintings can.

Is there anywhere I can read up on how to modify the BHAVs myself? There are a few custom objects I've been itching to move up and down walls.

In this case I just compared the movable stuff to the unmovable to see what the difference was. Turned out to be a simple flag.

If you want to do it yourself, first you need the QA version of SimPE.

If it's just a single object you want to change you just set the flag at the end of the init (If you don't know how to do this I would think most basic bhav tutorials over at MTS2 cover it). These are the values:

In the case of the signs I didn't have to change them one by one as they shared a semi-global init.
For the photos I changed another function as I also had to clear the flag for when they change to table-placed objects.

I made an attempt to change the mirrors via semi-global, and it worked for some, while others snapped to one position and then wouldn't move. I haven't checked them out individually to see if I could find the problem yet.

Thanks for the instructions, this is the first time I've ever edited BHAVs and the objects I've tested work perfectly.

How about the wall mirrors, would this kind of thing be possible for those too?

Only thing on your list I've tried this with is paintings done in game.  The new paintings --ones made after I installed the mod-- shift with no problems.  Paintings that were already hung don't.

Don't know whether this can be fixed, but I thought I'd mention it.

Thank you for this. It's ridiculous how they missed these things out. It's nice to not have my signs clipping into roofs. I assume they haven't done mirrors and the TV because of animation problems. Still... it would be nice to be able to move them at least a little (to prevent clipping into fireplaces and such).

New package for easel paintings in the first post that I hope work for both old and new paintings.
Old photos seem to work already in my tests, the signs may need to be replaced if they are on a lot that have been loaded and saved in AL without the hack. Old lots with signs that I just installed or placed picks up the change though.

Yeah, when I tested the mirrors it did look pretty silly when they practiced romance in front of an empty wall with the mirror above their heads.
I'm still looking in too why some mirrors don't work as they should.

Thanks, will the painting fix work properly with FT? Because they edited the paintings  to enable framing them.

Yes, works fine with or without framing.

I just noticed that the ctrl+alt wall decoration tool works for walls lights as well. I tested it out some and I found out that at least two lights have not been made shiftable (this is with all EPs and a good deal of SPs installed). The fan shaped light and the 'wave' light from the base game cannot shift while the others can. I find this interesting since all of the EP lights can be shifted easily and some, such as the lights from nightlife, have varying shades of light coming from them. Does anyone know why these don't work?

Post by: fway on 2008 September 14, 04:25:59
ugg, just when you thought this was over Goggalor there's more to it...

It appears that EAxis had the nerve to not make the fish shiftable, which is unfortunate, because why waste all that wall space for only 1 fish? I also found that the Maxed enthusiasm plaque can't be shifted either.  :-\

I absolutely love the hack though. Thank you!

ETA: Just found out that the plates from FreeTime can't be shifted either... EAxis has done such a shotty job, as always.

Title: Re: Shiftable signs, paintings and photos (AL)
Post by: Goggalor on 2008 September 14, 15:32:21
Hehe, of course there's more; there's always more with EAxis.
Good to know what though as it is so easy to forget what goes on the wall.

I've had no luck with the mirrors. I suppose I could change the ones that do work individually if there's interest for that.
Will check out the fish, plaque and TV.

Anyone started work on curtains?  And is there any way to adjust all of them at once, or is it each one?

Title: Re: Shiftable signs, paintings and photos (AL)
Post by: Goggalor on 2008 September 15, 03:14:43
Another batch of shiftables:

Curtains
Wall TV
The wallmounted fish from seasons
Deed to business/vacation lot + BV maps (possibly this affects other items as well as it is a semi-global function, these are the ones I spotted though)
Craftable plate + potholder  (the plate only shifts upwards from it's original position)

Hopefully coming up later:
Fire/burglar alarm
bug collection box
craftable OFB kite

...
I also found that the Maxed enthusiasm plaque can't be shifted either.  :-\
...

Are you sure? They move in my game without any hacks.

Thank you for all those upcoming objects!

Mhrmm, well actually, it appears that any plaque you get, at least in my game, before AL was installed that the enthusiasm plaques can't be shifted. However any enthusiasm plaque you get after AL is installed is shiftable. *Shrugs* The same also happens if there are any wall hangings that are left in the inventory. Have no idea at all really, why that would be a problem.

Title: Re: Shiftable signs, paintings and photos (AL)
Post by: Goggalor on 2008 September 15, 04:33:46
You could try to hang it and force error. (With boolprop testingcheatsenabled set to true; shiftclick plaque and force error. In the dialog that comes up, choose reset.) Then see if you can move it.

Heh, did not think of that. I sometimes forget I have the power to boolprop. *chuckles*

It's generally called by its correct name, 'debug mode', here. Boolean properties are only one of the things that may be set in debug mode.

Sorry about the long pause. Here are three more shiftables:

Alarms: burglar/fire
Speakers: All the wallspeakers. ( I don't think there's a problem with having these inits as one package even if one doesn't have the corresponding  EP's. If I'm wrong just tell me and I'll split them up.)
Wall vents: They were floor objects, besides the shifting I changed them to go on walls.

The only mirrors I would have a real interest in being movable would be the ones that clip into counters. Some of my favorite mirrors can't be placed over counters. Shame really.

I'm in the process of changing the properly functioning ones, it'll be done later today. Except if there's new ones in Mansion & Garden of course.

Think you'll be doing the other wall mounted TV? I noticed that can't move either.

Ah,  the swingarm one, forgot about that. Here it is.

Well, here's the mirror hack.

I decided to enable shifting for all wallmirrors through a semi-global, and then disable it for the ones that didn't work as they should.

This means that most CC mirrors will be shiftable as well. However this also means that if there are custom mirrors cloned from the problematic ones they might jump and snap into a locked position when you try to shift them. In that case just rebuy it.

List of the non-working ones (including the three full-wall mirrors):

Deceptico Plano Glass  -UNI
Modart Noudeco 1&3 tile  -NL
Bigger is Better  -NL
Functional Eloquence  -OFB
The Eleafquent Mirror  -AL
Charming Reflections -Glamour Life
Fancy Sycophancy -Glamour Life
KRABB Mirror (the small one) -IKEA

The taller mirrors from IKEA stuff pack only move slightly up and down.

When positioning wall lights lower on a wall, do they light up properly with this mod? It irks me that I can't have lights that stair-step up with staircases since the ones that are lower are basically just dark blobs. :P

No, sorry, this doesn't do anything to the lights. Some of the items here have that problem of going dark when moved as well. I wouldn't know how to fix it either or if it's even possible.

I think this is fantastic!! I'm having a problem downloading the files though...maybe someone can help me...When I click to download the file.. I click open..then I get a message wanting to know which program I want to use to open the file..I have winrar and also the Sims2 Clean Pack Installer..when I try with winrar I get a message that the files are damaged and it cannot open. When I try with the clean pack installer, there are no files to install...is there something I'm doing wrong?  :-\  I really would love to have these mods in my game!

Ok, so that's 12 files so far.  Is there any more to come? :)

A zip in the first post would be good.
And some of these files have 600+ downloads!
Looks like a "Taster's Choice" to me.

There were a couple of items I had issues with but I have pretty much given up on those for now, so hopefully not any more. Or were you thinking of anything I have overlooked?

Yeah, collecting them in an archive is probably a good idea now. Will do.

The way they make holes in the wall, would make me believe it would glitch up when tried.

Aren't holes made by wallmasks? No reason why the wallmask can't just shift along with the window mesh. Unless the two are more separate than I'm thinking. It's been a long time since I've tinkered with creating anything, and I never tried windows.

I haven't tried it, but I doubt the wallmask can move since it's applied to the whole area of the wall. I'll make an attempt anyway as it's not hard and it would be very useful.

EDIT: Like I thought, the wallmask stays in place.

I've updated the archive in the first post with a curtain fix by leesester (http://www.modthesims.info/member.php?u=2168990), sent to me by fanseelamb (http://www.modthesims.info/member.php?u=117050) (Thanks guys!). Here's what she wrote about it:

Quote
It was a bit of a strange bug - when the curtains were placed over a table with booth seating, sims couldn't sit in the seats next to the windows. [...]  Curtains already on the lot must be deleted and re-bought for the fix to take effect.  It also fixes a bug where the curtains couldn't be placed over toilets, and perhaps some other objects.

I'll also add it to this post if you don't want to re-download the rar. Just replace shiftcurtain.package with this file.
