Are these the same updates that are in the directory list?  Or have you added new fixes in there, like the mail box in apartments issue?

Speaking of critical fixes, the townies are spawning at a fast rate every time you open a neighborhood. Any news on that front? I take it that too many random townies are a VBT.

I've been tracking this. I removed all character files under the C:/...Apartment Life folder. Until lot load, there was no change. On lot load, one character was added. After 24 hours of play (just on the lot) I had five more characters (total of six). No new sims have walked by. I'll try a community lot and see if more spawn. I would expect six due to EAxis's stupid obsession with three of each NPC and the added witches.

EDIT: Ok, after going to a community lot I had three more character files (total of nine). No witches have shown yet. I have seen two of these new characters and they appear to be of the new useless social groups. I have one elder (grr, there are to be no elder townies!) smartly-dressed guy and one adult geeky guy. One other spawn is a garden club sim. I'd never accessed the garden club and had no garden club sims before. she's using a new AL hair.

I do have the current notownieregen in.

Yep, I'm up to 140 files now after moving a couple to an apartment complex with three other units. To me, it should have been an increase of four, not twelve. Still not in the alarming increase range...if I go over 200 I'll quit playing the 'hood until Pescado can give a verdict.

Title: Re: Unofficial AL Patch - Assorted Fixes

I have 393 files in the Characters folder for Belladonna. No Downtown/Uni/whatevers added. From my part, I created two CAS sims that got married and had twin daughters. The other CAS sim is currently single and living in another apartment.

Am I hosed yet? Should I just stop playing while this is sorted out?

(Thank god I haven't played my main hood yet...)

Edit: What's the character limit, anyway? And what's the best way to engage in a murder spree to get rid of unwanted townies?

Title: Re: Unofficial AL Patch - Assorted Fixes
Post by: J. M. Pescado on 2008 September 01, 02:53:29
Hardlimit is 32767. 393 is within acceptable parameters for a basic hood with a full townie complement.

Post by: DigiGekko on 2008 September 01, 03:02:42
Goody, no more microwave ramen fires from experienced cooks in apartments.

As for the townie explosion, I don't think there's a practical way of dealing with it right now. SimPE probably won't be updated for a while, and murdering would be slow and painful. Without notownieregen for AL, they'll just come right back anyway. It sounds like about 6 townies are being generated every 24 lot hours.

Did the cooking skill fix bump this up to "Very Critical" or did something more sinister?

Very critical is usually reserved for fixes for game-breaking glitches that either make the game unplayable or are dangerous to your saved-game files.  Cooking skill hardly qualifies as a game breaker.  I suspect it's either NL mail breaking mailboxes (since mailboxes are critical to the lot) or something Pes hasn't mentioned.

Is 527 within acceptable parameters? This is a vanilla E001 hood with 2 CAS sims added. No subhoods whatsoever.

The combination of multiple orange-level issues combine together to form a red-level issue, as the resulting mess *IS* dangerous to your save files and renders the game unplayable, as we're talking about an issue which irreversibly destroys data. The fact that this data loss is occurring at a level which makes it impractical to manually reconstruct the lost information boosts the issue to red: While fixing one or two lost cooking values on a sim is a repairable issue, losing this information on dozens of sims exceeds the level of typical players to reconstruct the lost data.

they can't call for firepolice anymore !
if you order "call for emergency" they didn't run but just walk, so the "react to fire" will override your order and they didn't call emergency and your room will be ashed :p

Yeah the changes in fire reaction in apartments makes them go out to the mailbox and freak out (lovely feature  ::)) and you can't call the fire department. My advice is to put a smoke detector in the kitchen so it auto calls the fire department.

And hey I guess that BBS report of losing the 'cocking skill' was valid!  :D

The pool is allegedly heated and does not freeze, so resets everyone to null temperature.

Hi guys, let me first say how very much I appreciate all you do for our Sims. :)

I downloaded these files and I put them in like this: Downloads/Hacks/ and everything seemed to be fine until it came time to use the cell phone, they never got to use it, they would kind of jerk a little and the cell would vanish. Am I doing something wrong? Please forgive my ignorance, I don't use too many hacks, I am extremely selective about them....... so forgive me. lol

This might sound like a stupid question, but I'm going to ask.  Are you putting it in Documents/EA Games/The Sims 2/Downloads/Hacks (this is where is SHOULD go)?  I'm asking because Vista has a folder in Documents called Downloads, and that's not where it goes.  Sometimes I accidentally click on that and freak out because there's nothing Sims related in it.

Let us know.

Also, do you have CC enabled?  To enable, you have to start the game, enable CC, then close the game and restart for the change to take effect.

Let us know about this too.

Yes I am using Vista and yes I have it in the correct folder. And yes I have CC enabled on my game. I use a LOT of CC but not a lot of hacks. The only ones I use are the Espresso machine, and up to now the phone hack, which isn't working.. and then I downloaded this one here.... and I put it in a folder called Hacks. I keep my folders in an insane order form. So I k now where I got what and where I got it.

Not a stupid question at all, a pratical one in fact. :)

Well, shoot.  I'm not sure what the problem is here then...I'm wondering if the phonehack is required to make the cell phone fix work.  I doubt it, as Pes didn't say so.  Sorry, I can't help you any further.  Maybe someone else will have an idea.  :-\

It's cool, maybe someone will come along that can tell me what stupid thing I have done to make it not work for me. lol

I had the phone hack but had to remove it when I got AL because it would hang my sims up when trying to use the phone, so I had to delete it until it is updated. :(

I am horrible about making friends, so I depend on that to let my sims stay on the phone for hours on end, am I pathetic or what? lol

I found the problem...... somehow or another, there was some rogue replacement cell phone, one that replaced the default one, in a folder where it had no business being..... so I deleted that, restarted the game and everything is perfect.....  ;D

Thanks for all the help. :)

Title: Re: Unofficial AL Patch - Assorted Fixes

Does that mean you accidentally had two cell phone replacements in different folders causing the problems? or that this is completely incompatible with cell phone replacements? I use the Moto K Razor by KyleBeans @ MTS2 I really love that phone and don't want to give it up.

Title: Re: Unofficial AL Patch - Assorted Fixes
Post by: Soulstripper on 2008 September 02, 02:56:48
This was a Moto Razr V3i, the file name was and I couldn't tell you where it came from, it was in a folder where I have hair meshes from Rose Sims....... so what a phone was doing in there is beyond me. All I DO know is that it was a Moto Razr V3i, as I said and that the file was made in 2006, if that helps. I didn't have anymore but that one replacement default, and when I deleted it, this hack started working, allowing my Sims to keep their cell phones.

I did do some digging for you, I somehow picked it up from Modthesims2 (although I may have downloaded it with a lot at some point, who knows) and it was made by user mohd14 on June 16th, 2006 and updated in January of 2007..... it conflicted with this hack/patch so bad that the Sims were jumping like beans when trying to pull their phone out and then the phone would just vanish from their inventory.

I won't post the link here, as I don't know how cool that would be, but I think you can fnd it based on that info..... if you look it up in google as the name of the phone and sims 2, you will find it in the first link. ;)

Anyway, my apologies for being such a pain, and I do thank you all for your help, even if it didn't work, it was a huge help.... got me going looking for other things. lol

It's good that J. M. Pesacdo is here to fix EA's failures.  Just two retardo questions:  Can the exsessive townie spawing be fixed, adn can the cylindrical NL n-hood deco building be restored?  The new small rectangular building seems to share the same in-game GUID.  Why do I feel like I'm paying money to beta-test a game?  They never test this crap with all EP's installed and those as the users that report all kinds of problems.  Plus, I'm VERY wary of downloading any patches, after today.  (I just lost my  "Knights of the Old Republic" games to the SeuROM that was hidden in the patches.)

Yes, but I'm not presently certain this is desirable. The hack is already made, but I haven't installed it in my game yet. I haven't seen any wild, uncontrollable spawning, the only time new townies spawn is to populate apartment blocks.

You keep saying this, but people are complaining about hundreds of character files spawning in new hoods with no apartments, or in university neighborhoods.

I know you're not wrong (you're never wrong), but could you explain this for the non-awesome?  I mean, I'm personally curious, but I'm also getting weary of people ZOMG-ing over it.

I'm just saying after wandering several community lots and playing both apartments and non-apartments briefly, there were no signs of new faces other than those produced as apartment neighbors. And one witch.

Do you mean actually seeing or looking at the amount of character files?  Because I haven't seen more than two or three different townies while playing SEVERAL houses, but the character files just keep on growing and growing and growing.

I promise to shut-up after your reply to this.

I know that, in my case, it can't be that they're only spawning to fill apartments simply because I don't have any apartment lots. After the initial 100 or so new character files, I've been getting about one new one on every lot load.

Just a little bit ago, I noticed that after Apartment Life is installed that the kids swing disappears from buy mode (it's called the Swing Kidz Deluxe).  My youngest daughter was playing Apartment Life on our other computer and I just at the time happened to be playing my game with just Freetime installed and I noticed that I still had that swing.  I was hoping that could be restored in J.M.'s awesome assorted fix patch.

Edit - Nevermid - KLGFCG explained on where the swing is located in the game now (I didn't know they moved it).

Okay, I know, you've heard it. Not trying to annoy here, but for my $0.02, DO WANT the no-social group spawnage hack. Even if the spawning isn't out of control, I want to be in charge. If the game spawns a new social group townie, I have to find and make-over said townie. I'd rather just make my own and NPC gun them to what I want. I'd rather have an empty apartment than a fug townie to makeover (or kill when I'm sick of catch and release). I'll probably do what I do with dorms though - calculate how many townies I need to fill my apartments and make the correct number with a few extras to take over for those I make playable.

I wonder if the uber-spawnage some people are seeing is related to social groups and lot classes, however. The Prima Guide o' Lies seems to indicate that every lot has a "value" that will attract certain types of social groups. I wonder if the people seeing many spawns per game are going to many different class lots (apartments and community) so the game thinks it needs to make new townies to fit the lot ambiance even if that's over and above the apartment amount. If, for instance, all your apartments attract socialites, could the game be making gearheads to populate low class community lots but they'll never show up in your apartments? Then again, I'm probably talking out my ass here. Any insights on that, Pes... will the game move a gearhead into a nice, ritzy apartment if there aren't any socialites available or will a new socialite get spawned?

Fake Edit: Jaldeer - the swing is now under Hobbies > Recreation with the other playground equipment. Why they moved it, I do not know.

They did?  I didn't think about checking under hobbies/recreation.  Well, I wonder why they decided to move it - not much telling.  I stopped trying to figure out EA/Maxis along time ago.  So, I suppose my post about the swing can be ignored.

Whether or not it plateaus as far as the townie spawning goes, I've been trying to actively monitor what it has been doing on my system.  First off, it seems to create a set value amount on load of a lot no matter what.  Residential zones (not counting apartments, I have not tested with that yet) creates one new character file, and a commercial lot creates 3.  Whether I ever actually see the newly created characters or not seems to be a gamble; sometimes they show up at some point, sometimes they don't.  Needless to say, if you go load a sim's house, go to two community lots, then go home; that's 8 townies spawned in that time.  If it actually stops this before hitting...oh 10,000 characters I guess it's not too terrible an issue for the average person (albeit a bit of a slowdown and a pain in the ass on going through the phone book), but do we know for certain that it's going to stop at some point or just endlessly generate upon lot load townies until the game explodes all over itself in townie guts?

That is my concern.  Is there a ceiling?  Is there any way to tell?  I'd really hate for my neigborhood to explode into a firey ball visible from space because EA's latest glitchfest didn't have a spawning limit.  As a side note, what about the deco building?  I really miss it.

Hmmm. Interesting. Apparently, I *DID* squash the mass-respawnage in No Townie Regen. At least, in the Director's Cut Edition, which has been up since 8/28. And that is why I'm not seeing THE SWARM, just the bare essentials to populate apartments. I will update standalone now.

Ack, sorry. The F in me is fighting to be heard.

I was still getting increases last night (I was in and out of the game a lot due to running around outside and flitting between accounts), but just at the 1-sim-per-load level. Still, that adds up. I'm eager to see if the DC version fixes even that. I've not yet decided what is going to happen with all these extra townies I never, ever wanted.

Creative methods of community lot genocide could be fun...

That's awesome it's figured out though.  I just did a test of running a residential lot for one game day and it of course generated one new townie upon loading the lot and that was it.  The file was then also modified upon leaving the lot.  As far as I could tell, I never saw a new townie walk past the house.

Prolly. I do have QA SimPE, after all. I'll kill a few for live graves in my graveyard (it's using props right now), keep the ones my sims have interacted with, and Deleted 2 the rest. Back to under 30 townies in no time...

It seems a bit odd it'd already be slowing down due to that already, but this is the easiest way to check and see if you're being affected by this (you most likely are if you do not have notownieregen).

1: Open up your Characters folder for that neighborhood
2: If it is not there, right click on the bar that lists the list by categories (Name, Type, Size, etc) and add the 'Date Created' field (usually under 'More')
3: Click that newly made category to list everything in order by its creation date, so that the newest is first
4: Run Sims 2! (preferrably in windowed mode)
5: While playing, watch the folder.  If you are affected, the following will happen:
A: One new file will be created on loading a family in a regular residence
B: when you have a sim go to a community lot, on loading the lot it will generate approximately 3 new files.

If this is happening, get the notownieregen hack PRONTO!

This has been discussed in previous threads - the game can easily handle over a thousand character files with no issue. The problem is with changes to the engine itself."

~600 is definitely by no means a "bad" case, though it is a pretty big amount.  My instructions are more to diagnose and catch the issue if it (and most likely is) happening, before it gets out of hand.  As far as I can tell, amount will always increase, well into the thousands.

Pleasantview is my most populated 'hood, with all avaliable subhoods (bar LFT and ALT universities) and is currently at somewhere in the region of 700 sims (Have not touched since installing AL, which adds about another 126 I think. No CAS sims either, and very few babies have been born so far). 800 and something sims is a reasonable amount and won't cause any significant slowdown. My barely populated neighborhoods run very similarly to my most populated, bar a small difference in loading times and a reduction in lag if you have only one of each NPC.

But anyway, the game will add 800 or so sims by default (with all eps), which, although undesirable, is normal and not really a VBT. The thing that will cause problems is redundant, sim character file clutter, which can corrupt your hood. And of course, the lag caused by the game continuously generating new sims. Simply having 500 sims in the folder won't cause any major harm though.

I do get the feeling that a lot of people who are just counting the character files for the first time are seeing large numbers and freaking out. And why bother checking? Just download the damn fix! Preempt it instead of actually letting the game generate more clutter.

How about 2000 plus? Are we talking problems here yet?

Where do I find the fix? I had the one for bv, but since then have a new hard drive and have lost all my fixes. Sorry, don't remember where I got it. Will the one from bv work on this one?

In all honesty, the amount depends on how powerful your computer is and how many you feel alright with having.  I had almost 1300 before I plugged the issue.  I thought about actually letting it get to 1500 before putting in the hack just to inflate my neighborhood some for the hell of it.  Hell, my only scare about it was the amount of hard drive space it was going to gradually eat since I am a tad limited at the moment.  The one thing though is if you have a thriving neighborhood most of the townies end up being redundant as you have enough playable sims to make community lots feel really populated and varied.  At which point constant new townies would be flat-out annoying.

As far assim populations go, my most poulated town is Pleasantveiw, which I have added all of the pre-AL core neighborhoods to using a tutorial I found somewhere around here.  Before installing AL, it had about 1300 sims, including townies and CAS sims.  I'm just worried that AL will balloon it into something ridiculous, like 10,000 with the frequent spawing of useless "social group" townies.  During play, I have yet to actually see more than maybe 12 or so of these new ones.

Yes, it does fix the issue with the date note and mailbox.

If that's Squinge's hack to enable the Uni careers as LTWs, you'll find a better version here in the AL hacks directory -- Pesc's uni_ltws_sns hack.

A good thing to do, before pointing the finger and saying something doesn't work, is to remove all CC except for the hack in question. Then see if it's not working as advertised.

Also, for anyone who is saying they have absolutely no CC and the hack doesn't work, make sure you have CC enabled in-game. The game disables them by default, as it is an intrusive little bugger.

I'm still having problems receiving NL mail at apartment mailboxes.  I pulled everything except the alfixes hack and had my sim go on a date to generate a new love letter delivery.  Same error as before, and I reset her.  I'm still able to get and pay bills so it's not entirely game-breaking but it's annoying as hell and I'd like to be able to send my sims on dates if they live in apartments  :-\

As I said, NO cc at all except this fix and I made sure that cc was enabled.  Error log is attached.

In the supremely unlikely even that EAxis perfectly fixes everything covered by this patch, it will be moved to the Scrapyard. Otherwise, the criticality may be downgraded but it will still be needed.

Maybe I'm mistaken, but wouldn't any official EA patch have SecuRom coded with it?

Title: Re: Unofficial AL Patch - Assorted Fixes
Post by: jsalemi on 2008 September 07, 22:13:39
Yes, but the SecuROM only installs if you run the game with the official patched .exe -- so we all just wait for the cracked no-cd.exe to come out for the patched version before installing the patch.  In most cases, it usually comes out within a couple of days of patch release.

Hi there.  I am by no means new to the Sims 2, but in my years of playing it I have never downloaded a single hack.  However, I am considering getting this one, since the bugs it fixes are severely horrible.   :P

What other basic hacks should I get?  I don't want to make the game weird or ubber-easy; I just want to be able to play it normally.  After reading this thread, I am terrified to even play anymore due to current bugs.   :-\  I see there are two other hacks recomended in the first post; guess those would be a good place to start...

First I want to thank the creator of this hack to make the sims work better then EAxis ever will do!

The next thing is that I keep getting Errors since i've been installing TS2 AL, wich are very annoying, during the gameplay.
These errors started from the moment I have made a new character, and put it in the appartment.
I can tell that one of the hundred errors is: ''An error occured in object ''Controller Age'' #124 Error: Bad gosub tree number. The stack trace is saved in my doc..-ts2-logs/ObjectError_N004_t9000.txt
Try the 50/50 method (removing half your hacks, seeing if error occurs, adjusting what you have in the game and repeating). Your most likely culprits are any hacks that affect aging. When you find the culprit, check the creator's website for updates.

Are you shift-clicking the newspaper in debug mode?  I'm asking because this apparently has been broken for some time.

As for slower game play, I've actually read that people are experiencing the opposite.

hello, first excuse my bad english, but I had something important to report :
Appartements should be rent with all pianos, sofas, etc etc; it's a bug when he come without only a kitchen and a bathroom .
A friend give me the code "boolProp testingCheatsEnabled true" and use it just when your sim is in front of his new appartement door .Clik on the door and choose " louez meublé " (and dont know what is for english version, sorry ! ) , then use boolProp testingCheatsEnabled false .

But perhaps there is a possibility for you to fix it ?  it would be fine ,and more easy that all this manipulations .I don't try it again , i will test it after .

This is not a bug.  This was done intentionally by EA.  The furnishings are shown as a "suggestion" as to how to arrange the apartment.  Also, the NPC townies use the "sample" layout when they move in, I think.  This way, the playable households can use whatever they can afford, and arrange things any way they choose.

today my Sims in an rental apartment had a money tree. The landlord came to the usuall time to check on his property and walked right in the apartment to water the tree and harvest the money.  My Sims was sleeping and he stand by the bed to talk about hobbies. :'(

Then it is no way to get rid of the guy, because there is not an good by option. >:(

It seems the walkin the apartment get triggered by the gardening duties of him.

I used the Teen WooHoo hack from the now-defunct(?) InTeen site and found it caused major conflicts with newer EP's.  I can only imagine the kind of havoc an out-dated InTeenimater must cause.  Make sure you (read as: anyone) removes ALL outdated hacks before reporting bugs here.  We don't need Pescado tracking down phantom bugs caused by a mod conflict.  I, for one, truly appreciate that someone is actually trying to make this, the coolest and buggiest EP ever, playable.  Even the Sims2 Official Site didn't have a "Report your bugs" thread the last time I was there.  So, thanks, Pescado, for all your hard work!

Anyone caught reporting a mod conflict as an EP bug will be exiled to "Retardo Land," as per the order from the Jedi Council.

Should be fixed now. It's hard to get a good test case for the love letters since I never, ever, have seen them in my game.

That's why I'm trying to do the same test scenario every time.  Good scientific method and all that rubbish.  Shall try the new version and report back *fights urge to add a smiley*

Actually, I think it's not so much about posting it in the right place, as providing enough information to determine what the problem is.  The more specific information you can provide, the faster these types of bugs will get fixed.  That's why I included an error log with the description of the restorable car bug.  If you don't know how to generate an error log, try doing a search.

It's both.  The Asinine Airhead needed a Malodorous Moron to affirm the problem is a bug, not a glitch, and upload the error log for him.  He found a place to post where someone more experienced would say, "me, too."  I'll hit you up with a baa for posting the log.

I have a lightsaber.  And, I must obey the will of the Jedi Council.  Besides, it would be doing Pescado a favor.  I'm glad someone confirmed my bug.  Even I have much to learn, and next time I find a bug, I'll be sure to post an error log.  In the mean time, my Sims are much happier, as they can now finish the car resto project before heading off to college!

I always review logs regardless of how "experienced" the user is, but as a general policy, I work on an "error log or it didn't happen" basis. An error reported without an error log merely gets filed in the list of things to watch for if it happens in my game, an error log is enough to prompt a targeted investigation.

Let me give you a hint to the thing that should be fixed as well.
In Belladonna Cove there is a house where one man with a daughter lives and he has a crush with the neighbour under him - Viviane.
If you play the man's family her appartment is visible. I can admit that. Because they have an affection may be.
But I moved her family in so they live all together now in man's apartment.
Her apartment become empty and invisible.
But then NPC man rented this vacant place and the apartment is visible again! All the time! You can see this NPC man doing activities but you cannot see that! It makes the game slower when another apartment is visible too.

bug? :)

I hate that downtown is FUBARed, because the new ugly building, overwrites the NL condo building. I miss that deco, and would rather have that building in belladonna, than have a badly messed up downtown.

I agree totally.  I loved the condo building.  It lit up at night and looked very cool.  The problem is probaby a defualt GUID conflict caused by EAxis not testing AL with any EP's installed and only with the base game.  *sigh*  It seems that Rod Humble might be the newest Sith Lord: Darth Numbnuts.  I may have to challenge him to a duel.

In the meantime, I'm investigating the Butler as being a pawn of the Dark Side (read as: borked by bad play-testing and/or lazy programming).  I'll report my finding later.

I personally have refused to play until this conflict has been resolved, because the other three skyscrapers look ugly and industrial. It's actually kind of ironic. The decoration that looks like an apartment, is missing in Apartment Life.

Title: Re: Unofficial AL Patch - Assorted Fixes

I suspect he can fix the buildings and billboards, but I do not know how difficult it would be.  I would consider it borderline impossible for someone with my level of modding skill: nil.  The difficulty or complexity of fixing it may have an effect in Pescado deciding IF he wants to fix it.  In the meantime, I have to report that I have not encountered any significant problems using the butler.  The only thing I noticed was that he had a tendancy to remain on one floor, which didn't help the family keep the upsatirs area of their home clean.  I suspect the users on the official BBS reporting extremely wonkey behavior and lack of the butler counting as a child-care specialist were either in a different version (I have the North American/English language version), had mod conflicts, or were making things up just to get attention.

I had a butler on a two-story lot, and he went upstairs everyday with no problems.

I'm a coding IDIOT.  I can't even open SimPE, let alone use it, so take my assumption as you will:

With the broken building, it seems to me that they replaced the old with the new, so we could either have one or the other if this is fixed, not both.  I assume this because it's not a UI place-able object.   ???

There is no GUID conflict the building got completly replaced by the new one.

The sportscar billboard has now a graffity which covers the sportscar.

Are you sure the old building is completey gone?  It should still exist in the Nightlife .objects file, completely separate from the Apartment Life file, right?  Or am I not understanding how the EP installation works?  I know it has replaced it in the NL downtown area, but if the newer building shares the same GUID as the old one, then only the new one will show up, seeming to replace (overrride) the old one. I learned this while making a customized version of a modder-made car.  Untill I changed the GUID, only my version would appear in the Buy Mode cataloge.  Of course, I don't know everything about computer coding, and what I do know is somewhere in the "very basic, begginner" area, so I could be wrong.

SJActress:
On a different lot, the butler did use stairs and/or elevator to go to the second floor.  I never noticed him to go to the third floor on that lot, but at the time there was no need to.  I'll have to kep an eye on that butler guy.

Anyone run into this one? Played a SIM thru university, moved into apratment. Now they never age. Tried aging on in the command cheat, tried "temporal adjuster"...nothing seems to start the normal aging.
Try turning on the cheat "moveobjects on", deleting the sim, saving and reloading the lot. Periodically I have issues with adopted animals and marry-ins not aging. It's not frequent at all, but always takes a few days for me to notice so I've taken to doing this with any new family member.

It has nothin to do with GUIDs they have given the new Deco Object the Name of the old one.

Nightlife deco was called neighborhoodBuildingRes1 in the Game files. All resources of the Object had this name, now the new building has this name and the group number of the old one so the old building gets overridden.

No. Regardless what route you take, since internally, they are the SAME building, splitting them will turn all existing examples of the building into one or the other.

I'm not sure if I can request a fix or if I should even be posting here, but my attempts to search for the issue I've experienced yielded nothing.  So, I apologize in advance if this is the wrong place to air this particular AL grievance.

Although flowers from Nightlife can be retrieved from outside of an apartment, gifts from dates cannot.  At first, I was upset about the financial issue (because the Sim who received the gift was on the destitute side), the gift giver placed it directly in front of the trash chute on her floor.  Sooo, when the landlady tried to throw away the newspaper, she basically got stuck in a loop.  Pick up, notice something in way, put down, pick up, notice something in way, put down.

And, to top it all off, it was one of those hideous, pricey blue vases, so everyone visiting the lot soon gravitated to her 2x4 tile porch to gawk at it, soon finding themselves stuck, along with the landlady, who likely would've died trying to throw away that newspaper if I hadn't gotten so frustrated with the situation that I ended up moving the woman out of the apartment altogether, for lack of any other way to repair it.

So, my question is whether or not there's any way to make date gifts grabbable from outside of an apartment or eliminate the ability to receive them.  Or has it already been done?  Again, I apologize if this is the wrong place to ask, but it'd be a nice addition to the AL hacks.

I've noticed a problem with Sims in apartment complexes staying outside in all weather to the point of getting frostbite/sunstroke, peeing on themselves, getting stinky, etc. when I play as another family.  It's particularly bad when they have children or teens and there's a playground on the property.  The kids will practically LIVE in the playground.  I'm surprised they don't stand outside and stare up into the rain until they all drown, like turkeys.  When I click on the apartment complex from the Neighborhood screen, half the people on it have frostbite or sunstroke apparent.

I would settle for a fixed downtown, because while downtown looks glitchy with the AL building, I think Belladonna wouldn't look half bad with the NL one.

This happens because they are unable to figure out how to return home until their motives have dropped to near-death levels, so they wander around, pass out, and pee on themselves. Particularly if your common area is underequipped as a residence, because you expected people to return home.

I think it would be much easier to replace the Belladonna ones, seeing as they are simpler to line up than the rounded apartment buildings. And because NL came first, and AL needs to be punished for being stupid.

Ideally, the Belladonna Cove template needs to be updated.

From the RTFM of the latest version (though apparently not in this post at time of writing..) :

8. No longer required to greet Gypsy(impossible) or employees<->customers.

..does this include members of the manager's household as 'employees'?  And will customers still insist on greeting each other?

You won't see "walk to school" on the menu until after the time the bus would come and leave. It seems like I can use that feature after 9 a.m. on Monday through Friday. Typically I only use it on move in day.

Has "walk to school" always been a game option, or was that added with BV?  To be honest, I never noticed "walk to work" and "walk to school" until this very week, and since I hadn't noticed them before, I assumed they were relatively new.

It seems that the helpful link (thanks to CTnutmegger) for getting the octogonal building again doesn't conflict or replace the AL one. It worked successfully in my game. However, I wonder if such technique could be applied to the former billboards as well ?

I don't mind about billboards with graffitti on it, but I wish  I had at least the choice as any Buy mode object to select the texture or the color.
When you build an entire urban ghetto like neighborhood, it's ok.. but when you want to build a rather rich, industrial neighborhood, that doesn't match so much.

I didn't see any fix about that yet, but this detail is of importance for me. I don't appreciate that Eaxians morons change things without even asking if that please us. >:(

Yes, it can, there are 4 of them that were overwritten by AL, you can find them in my Mediafire folder http://www.mediafire.com/ctnumegger (http://www.mediafire.com/ctnumegger) They are in new packages, so they won't overwrite anything and can be found in the catalog under Landmarks with the new ones.

Also, I downloaded some hoods yesterday that were created before AL and there are hundreds of the new "ponds" everywhere overlapping each other.  I assume that it is overwriting some kind of plant material from before.  I cant tell in the preview pics of the hoods what is supposed to be where the ponds are but it looks like maybe a light clumping bush of some sort.  Anyone notice this?

The new pond is categorized as neighborhood foliage, so when you add a new hood, if it had trees on it when it was created in SC4, you run the chance of getting both ponds and trees covering it. I haven't checked to see if it overwrote anything or not, it might just be a dumbass mistake in cataloging.

I don't know. And I don't care. You decide whether you consider a redfix more important than things which look like, at best, blue or green. See your friendly neighborhood Terror Alert for more information.

/me kicks the Fat Obstreprous Jerk.

Aracelis, for that first one, it's been discussed at TwoJeffs' site and the answer is that they work together fine as long as you make sure the school bus hack loads last (which it should with the way the two hacks are named, unless you have them weirdly subfoldered by something other than creator name.)

Although unless the fixes are integrated into the Jeffistani hack, the bug will return and all your apartment kids fail again.

Ahh, right, wasn't looking at the file path.  So yeah, switch them around and you'll get at least part of Pes's mod and TJ's working.  (I have a special folder at the very end of my downloads named with a z where I stick stuff that needs to load after other stuff.)

This is a known reported issue caused by "hobby friends". I will investigate this particular issue further, but it is not AL specific.

No; I've had two Sims bringing home the same person each day - in one case, it was a cheerleader from Uni (..who really needs to die anyway, since she insists on cold calling people constantly..) and in the other case, it was one of the Uni mascots.  I really need to start looking into mods dealing with 'home-brung' Sims anyway since my teen Sims only ever seem to bring home vacation Sims, despite the fact that there's still a good handful of normal townie teens and a few playables around.

i'm pretty sure that i didn't see any "Walk to school" voice on the menu, but i'll check it again later ;)

You won't see "walk to school" on the menu until after the time the bus would come and leave. It seems like I can use that feature after 9 a.m. on Monday through Friday. Typically I only use it on move in day.

looks like the game think this:
"no bus, no menu" ... anyway, actually my sim is at usinversity, so the problem is "bypassed" :D
What menu are you looking for?  You just have to click on the child/teen when it's time to go to school, and the option "walk to school" should be there.  Always is for my sims regardless of if the bus shows up or not.

I think I always had a problem with the order the teen achieved those goals. There must be a reason I wait until the teen has an A+ before getting them a job? I don't know, but I do know that I've always had them get the overachiever thing, still as teens, if they max school before career, so...

If they got the A+ after the top level of their career, try quitting their job and getting a new one, and see if they get it on maxing that one.

Are these important conflicts?

Thanks for asking about the school bus one and thanks to whoever answered; I was wondering about that one as well when I ran the HCD. I find the enthusiasm decay one interesting because I use nohobbyspam and over the past few days I've noticed some "losing enthusiasm in _______"s slipping through - though not nearly as many as before I installed nohobbyspam. The new things I've put in over the past few days are the updated alfixes, LordDarcy's More Decorative Slots, Squinge's No Auto Relax, Sit on Floor to Watch TV, and Witch More Often, and No Over-watering from MTS2. The hobby spam I'm getting isn't enough to really bother me, but it was just interesting the you mentioned it.

Title: Re: Unofficial AL Patch - Assorted Fixes
Post by: J. M. Pescado on 2008 October 01, 16:30:26
nohobbyspam is not meant to squelch every single hobby message ever, it's just meant to stop them from spamming you. You should make sure the Carrigonian no-enthusiasm-delay loads last if you want its effects, though, since the ALfix version only stops decay on the nonplayable family (since otherwise they would lose all their hobbies because you cannot instruct them to perform them).

Title: Re: Unofficial AL Patch - Assorted Fixes

Thanks for the reply, JM! I knew nohobbyspam wasn't *no* decay, which seems more realistic, but for some reason I thought it stopped the pop-ups entirely.

I see EA have a patch out for AL BUT it doesnt fix any of these bugs hardly

They have fixed a load of cosmetic rubbish and ignored the important stuff in the main

1.  Cellphones can now be answered without being eated.               Supposedly Fixed
2.  Receiving NL-mail at an apartment now works, no longer renders mailbox
unusable and dooming your sim to eventual eviction.                   Supposedly Fixed
3.  Cooking skill is FUBAR'ed by moving into an apartment.                NOT FIXED
4.  Inactive apartment residents no longer slowly drained of hobby enthusiasm.  NOT FIXED
5.  Pianos no longer ADHD due to function arguments being garbage.  Supposedly fixed
6.  Teens able to work on restorable car again.                                 NOT FIXED
7.  Apartment resident kids not in the active family no longer lose grades
every day and automatically fail school and get taken by the SS.        NOT FIXED
8.  No longer required to greet Gypsy(impossible) or employees<->customers.  NOT FIXED
9.  Should be able to retrieve date rewards dropped outside apartment now.   NOT FIXED
10. Love Potion no longer restocks as Nice Potion instead.                             NOT FIXED

Is there anything out there that will give me back the extra colors of the Ergo door and window that AL stole from my Build Mode catalog?  I use those build items a LOT, but usually in white.  Red...  not so much!  Or should I just bite the bullet and recolor them myself?

This is why you should ensure all household sims are on-lot and idle before patching.

Title: Re: Unofficial AL Patch - Assorted Fixes
Post by: J. M. Pescado on 2008 October 03, 11:06:19
I think I've spotted a possible clash.  It concerns loading a lot for the first time after applying the official patch, if one of the household was out at work when the lot was last saved.  With the unofficial patch in my Downloads folder I received a "Nathan has missed work today" message, even though he was already at work.  In addition, he remained permanently at work and never came home again.
This isn't a patch "clash", this is just the normal behavior of the game when resetting offlot. Sergeant Box has a "Fix Afterpatch" which will prevent missed work/school.

Is there anyway of fixing that stupid thing that happens to all not flattened Apt lots when a Sim moves in? The lot sinks a few levels into the ground and if the lot is on low level land there is floating water above the lot. The same thing happens with beach lots re-zoned to apts. I've read on MTS2 that there is a way to fix each lot individually with SimPE, but i'm a moron when it comes to SimPE.

It's a simple problem to fix with SimPE, but I don't know enough about writing mods (.package) to create one myself.  Here's what needs to happen to fix it:  When a family moves into an apartment building, the cloned lot is created with the wrong Z (elevation) value in the lot description in the neighborhood package.  So, during or after the cloning process, the mod would have to find the correct Z value from the apartment base and replace the incorrect value in the apartment sublot.  I just don't know whether it's possible to fix this in-game.

Alternatively, I could write a C# .NET program to fix all apartment sublots in a neighborhood.  You'd have to save and exit the game after moving the family in, then run the program to fix the lot, then run the game to continue the move-in process.  Not a perfect solution, but it might be easier than SimPE?

I suppose that there's one more option: to write an unofficial patch to the game.  I notice that someone (Dizzy?) has already done this for another bug...

My experience seems to contradict this.  I've never had any form of CEP, and all the colors of the Ergo windows were still available after installing AL.  The already-bought windows did revert to red, but I was able to change them back to black with the design tool.

Title: Re: Unofficial AL Patch - Assorted Fixes
Post by: J. M. Pescado on 2008 October 11, 10:31:45
It's not so much that the icon is recycled as it is that the "yellow placeholder box" is the default model used to present objects that normally do not appear in the game, such as offworld "Controllers". Normally, actions are pushed using a different object as the "Icon Object", but sometimes EAxis slips and uses the wrong icon. Usually this is not noticeable, but sometimes you notice some particularly odd icons being chosen for actions. As the icon is purely cosmetic, no one cares enough to rewrite a ton of code to fix it.

Do you have hacks or CC in your game?  Does this happen in a plain-vanilla game?  You might want to make a new thread in the podium or in Oops! The hack conflict detection utility isn't saying I have anything conflicting.

I installed latest AL official patch and was forced to back it up back again (I mean the object.package) because I had an issue with that
http://www.insimenator.net/showthread.php?t=97800

Also I have a bug with Gypsy - she comes in community lots and rings the door then wanders around.

As I do not use official patch can you extract some fixes from that to apply them separately?

1. Social Groups now generate significantly less NPCs  - I have many new new social NPC generated and they are all male.
can you also make a single fix like the official patch has?

Noticed this too.  Downtown at the Crypto Nightclub - or whatever it's called.
I'd seen the gypsy before at some cafe just waiting near an entrance portal... maybe she rang the bell that time too.
Just have the option to 'dismiss'.
I've not noticed the gypsy at any residential lots so far.

I haven't been able to reproduce any unusual gypsy behavior, but alfixes doesn't modify the gypsy behavior itself, so whatever it is, I had nothing to do with it. If I see the behavior, I'll do something about it. As for the "all social group townies are male/female" thing, I know why that happens, too. Fat Gwilly People currently are playing with a fix for that.

At last I decided to install latest official patch to test it one more time.
the bug with blackened tenant's object (http://www.insimenator.net/showthread.php?t=97800) is not in every block fortunately.
So I guess The patch is OK for now. :)

I have another strange BHAV with visitors on community lots. Some of them arrive and just stand like a dummy with nothing doing but their needs are getting low. Some of are OK they are talking, playing etc. Some of them are just standing on one spot. No errors occurs (I always play with the developers cheat)
Do you have something like this too?

I found a problem with Alfixes.

When a sim had a good date. And later they pick up there "thanks for the fun" note
from the mailbox.  The note disappears from there inventory.
It happened on a residental lot. I don't know if apartment lots have the same problem.

As this is fixing pet careers... any chance ofworking up and including a fix for the 0 bonus bug referred to here?

It may be an old bug, but it's still there, Tara Kat and her 5 star cats hit this twice the other day.

Hello
I'd like to decrease the number of social groups members in my town I delete certain character files (User#__XXX)
But seems like game respawns 'em again.
How can I ban it?

Well, for starters, I hope you're deleting them properly using Deleted 2 + theotool or equivalent. As for reducing their spawning, the game will spawn one anytime you use an apartment that requires a member of said group to inhabit an unoccupied unit. Notownierespawn should disable any other cases of spawning.

cwykes, it occurs with dogs too.
If I knew more about coding in the game then I would give fixing it a shot, but I don't.

Title: Problem with apartments and ALFixes, it seems.
Post by: Mizz Rose Bud on 2009 June 16, 10:28:10

The ALFixes dated April 26 seems to break "new" apartment lots.
The Landlord never tries to shake the potential tenant's hand with hack in.
The Check Out Apartment interaction isn't working correctly with the hack in.
The sim will perform the action but the door stays closed and never opens.
If you do manage to rent the apartment cause it wants to drop from queue,
the tenants the game spawns may complain about blocked apartments doors.
This breakage seems to happen mostly on fresh new lots without any tenants.

This has been tested in both vanilla and non vanilla games by a few different players with the same results.
The Hack dated March 28th works fine but April 24 and April 26 one does not.
All players tested had the latest AL patch and M&G installed.

In this case, vanilla means "with nothing but the ALFixes"  :)

Should be able to actually enter the apartment to check it out now.

Yes, that worked  :) bah

Quote from another player
Quote
I move the second family in and the first one came home from work before she should and showed a wall in the way bubble but then
she walked back to work when she came home later she was able to enter her unit on her own.

So as far as I can tell it works now with a few quirks but it works.
Donīt know if it is important

Sorry to bring this back up, but I figure if you have a problem with a hack it is best to post it in the thread the hack came from, rather than a new topic. That way, maybe someone else with no brain can find it as well.

I've had this one for quite some time, and I haven't noticed any problems, but over the past few months love letters have disappeared whenever someone try to retrieve them from the mailbox. They will take it out, kiss it, but it never actually appears in their inventory.

I've done 50/50 and eventually narrowed it down to this mod. Not a conflict, it happens with only this hack in game, and does not happen if I leave everything and remove this one.

I would like to have the fixes, but I do actually use love letters quite a lot in my game so it is very annoying that they don't appear. I saw on earlier pages that some people had problems with it erroring in apartments lot, but my problem occurs in residential lots (I've tried normal hood, and uni residential lot) and it does not error, the letter just doesn't reach inventory and vanishes.
