Title: Regenerating Catalog Thumbnail. How?
Post by: SiuPang on 2008 July 05, 20:36:19
I've got corrupted catalog thumbnails of some of my skins... is there a way I can regenerate the thumbnails other than finding the picture in CASThumbnails.package 1 by 1? Thx

Well, the easiest way is to just delete the CASThumbnails.package -- the game will regenerate it next time you go into CAS and select a skin. There's also a way to update individual thumbnails -- turn the testing cheats on before you go into CAS, and then shift-click (or shift-right-click -- I forget which, since I rarely use it) on the thumbnail to regenerate it.

Just deleting the thumbnail package is probably the best course of action if it's more than one that's borked, though.

I've been able to update my thumbnails without debug mode enabled by holding Ctrl and right clicking the thumbnails.

Yup, CTRL right click regenerates thumbnails, but only in CAS, more's the pity.  If there are lots of thumbnails to be regenerated it is often quicker to delete the file, but if it's only a few, going through and regenerating them all one by one isn't too bad.

Does this work with the CAS Sim bin? I recently had a random crash while creating a family, and when I next loaded the game, every adult Sim had someone else's thumbnail-- some Sims appeared several times in both genders.

Yes it does- I find that they are the thumbnails which break most often!

Saucesome! Thanks, Simsample! I was dreading deleting my thumbnails just for that.  ::)

Thx for the solution... But I have already spent two hours locating and deleting those thumbnails I wanna regenerate in CASThumbnail.package  :P

I have objects that I've deleted where the thumbnails still exist, but the content does not.  The option to delete is not available, at least in buy mode (where the items are located).  How do you get rid of those?

Go into the thumbnails folder (under your documents\EA Games\The Sims 2 folder) and delete the relevant thumbnail file (I believe it's 'objectsthumbnails.package').  The game will rebuild it next time you go into buy mode.

The thumbnail files get glitched over time -- many of us just delete all of them on principle every so often.

That was way too easy.  Thanks.
