I was wondering if anyone had posted this yet. Looks like you beat me to it!

It seems to contain a lot of fixes that awesomeware fixed a long time ago - eg Romance asp graves and LTW. I guess we don't need the awesome versions any more?

The old patch was something like 17 MB I think...

No problems with download...

Heh. Time to wait for new NoCD then.

Unless Pescado confirms and removes Awesome fixes to obsolete folder, I'm leaving them right in my hack folder. I don't trust EAxis's claim until I install the thing and see in my own eyes.

I think thats not all. They put up one more FT Patch. The Maty FT Patch.
Promote Maty hardcore at several Community Managers, Rod, Mods, etc. *rofl*

I suggest waiting to install rather than rushing off immediately, as a new crack will be required to avoid infesting your computer with SuckuROM. If someone is feeling particularly foolish, I will accept the p2 objects.package for diffscan in #grah. Death to all Nesses.

So they fixed Kitchen crap for FreeTime only? So Seasons and BV players can buy the new pack or can go fuck themselves then.
I do not understand what you mean. This word, this "buy", I do not know this word.

What does this mean for those of us who haven't acquired K&B yet, but are intending to do so at some stage?  I presume that if I do patch first, then install K&B it will undo these changes - but I won't be able to repatch as the game will recognise that it is already patched.

Teen stereo and Teen computer had similar issue with BV, missing BV features like slap dancing or booking vacations. EAxis included updated versions in FreeTime Overrides.package. Even if you install Teen crap after FT, FT version will override the outdated version included in Teen crap. (And just like K&B, BV players without FT were completely left out.) I expect it's something along this line with K&B objects too. Probably they included fixed versions in FT objects.package or Overrides.package.

this is complicated. so are you guys saying i should do it in this order:

> install freetime
> wait for a new anti-securom  no-cd exe to come out, replace old exe
> then the freetime patch
> then install kitchen and bath afterwards

Not exactly.

Wait to install FT until updated NoCD crack for patch is available.
Install FT.
Install patch.
replace .exe with crack
install KB
Run game from FT cracked.exe.

Which reminds me, I have to check which no-cd crack I'm running.  I patched FT, but I'm not convinced I updated the no-cd.  Hmmm.  Seems to run fine so far, but best not to risk the unholy hybrid, I suppose.

I don't think it matters whichever you install first, FT or K&B. I expect that fixed K&B objects included in FT patch will override outdated ones included in K&B pack. That was the way FT overrode outdated Teen objects, anyway.

If you even want K&B. It's a waste of money/download time.

Does this do much more than the previous pulled patch? I've already installed that plus the matching no CD executable.

I'm also wondering whether it is safe to run BodyShop, or will that sucker me with securom?

Considering all the other stuff they found to fix, this might have been considered a non-issue.  I mean, I couldn't care less whether I see the splash screen, as long as I get to hood selection.

Not only did they break a bunch of stuff, but they RE-broke a bunch of stuff. For example, pets scratching cribs/cots when in use has been a problem since Pets, and was fixed with a Pets patch. The same problem occurred with BV (and maybe Seasons too - I don't remember), so this means that they re-broke it when BV was released. And now they've broken it yet again. It's turning out to be as bad as the recurring piano borkage. It seems like EAxis is borking and re-fixing the same fucking dozen or so things with every EP. Obviously, they spend absolutely no time on R & D or QA - they just churn out the EPs and SPs in order to turn a profit, not caring if the products actually work, or not. Oh no, testing their merchandise before releasing it would make too much sense! [/rant]

Edited to fix typo.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There are still some companies that respect their customers. Stardock (see http://www.stardock.com/products/?tab=mygames) comes immediately to mind; they have produced the highly-regarded Galactic Civilizations games (if you've ever been a Civ fan, you're liable to get hooked on those), the new hot title "Sins of a Solar Empire" which I've been meaning to check out, and others. They are proud of respecting customers enough to release games that have no copy protection...and that aren't bug-infested either. (They'd have been too proud and careful to release some of the Sims products, in their current states, as betas.) The lack of customer punishment copy protection hasn't seemed to hurt their sales...GalCiv 2 and Sins both rocketed up to the top of sales charts, and without massive ad budgets too.

They even have a no-DRM downloadable game service, TotalGaming.net, which I've used and would recommend without hesitation--it doesn't take over everything, doesn't seem to burrow deep into anything, only runs when I want it to like any other normal application. I used TG.net to acquire the fun Space Rangers games, so that I wouldn't get the nasty Starforce copy protection which had been used on the CD-ROM versions that Cinemaware Marquee released in this country.

Everyone makes mistakes now and then (there are some real dogs of games being re-distributed on TG.net along with the gems, for instance), and any organization is liable to eventually come down with a case of the evils; but so far in my experience Stardock and TotalGaming.net are teh r0x0rz. So when I become dictator if they ever asked me, I would insist that EA make a deal with these guys to fix up and then redistribute the Sims series via their online service. If the effort to repair Maxis' spaghetti code didn't suck up and exhaust all available talent and resources at Stardock, and cause them to collapse, that is...

I believe you misunderstand.  No-cd crack .exe files are used so you don't have to load the game from the CD or DVD.  Bypassing the CD, means that you avoid installing securom (bad thing) on your computer.  When you patch, the no-cd crack is out-of-date, since it was made for the non-patched game.  This may cause problems due to what we call the "unholy hybrid" (patched game with non-patch no-cd .exe).  Thus, people wait to patch the game until a no-cd crack for the patch comes out, so that we can continue to avoid securom (bad thing).

Wonder if the next EP Apartments will re-break some of these fixes or do more harm to the game it self. Would have been more logical to just wait till the The Sims 2 series was done then come out with a large patch at the end then to have us remove hacks now and then put them back in later after the next EP comes out. We will end up with a broken game anyways since Sims 2 is  almost done and they are busy getting Sims 3 out the door. I don't think I will be in any rush to play the next generation of the Sims anytime soon.

Considering their inability to learn from past mistakes or actually use anything resembling logic, it's a definite. I thought that Lord Darcy postulated that the reason bugs and such keep recurring is because they are building the EPs & SPs all off the (unpatched) Pets engine. Well, duh. If you keep building off the same engine you knew had bugs without fixing it, you're going to keep getting the same bugs.

I also patched with the first patch (got it off here, it had been pulled before I even installed FT) and had been unable to find another no-CD to update to in the first place. Seems to be fine, but I'll wait some on the second patch.

My optimistic side wants to believe that EA is really working on patching FreeTime because of player complaints, but then I notice that they're selling another stuff pack next month and it seems to work well for them when they release fixes right before they ask for more money.

There seems to be a new round of SecuROM-related complaints on the BBS from it, and I'm definitely waiting for a crack before I touch the patch. Does someone more adventurous know if the installer's going to get wobbly about my having cleaned-out template neighborhoods and camera mods, though? I had no issues with patch 1, for what it's worth.

I think Securom stays installed on your PC even if you uninstall your games that are infested with it.

You need to follow the steps for removing securom in the "How to remove securom..." thread in the Podium.  It includes the instructions for getting and using a no-cd crack.  It is not remarkably difficult.

Emma is correct however in that, if you have other games that use securom, and do not have no-cd cracks for them, it will reinstall when you play those games.  Chances are, however, that there are no-cd cracks available for those games as well.  Gamecopyworld usually has a bunch of them, as do other sites.

Teens no longer have the option to "Birdwatch".
Teen and Child Sims will no longer receive the unachievable Bird Watch Want.

What? They couldn't figure out what they did wrong so they just removed it instead of fix it?

My teens can birdwatch just fine, Thanks to jase. I'll stick with my 3rd party fixes thank you very much. What, they couldn't do what they did last time, and use community modders code? Bleh, Teen sims should be able to bird watch, it's just stupid for it to be restricted to adults and elders.

Edit:
Oh, and if that is the same version of Securom that was on the third Sim Cities Societies patch, DO NOT WANT, it gave be hell about my deamon and I couldn't get a no-cd to work. It was such a pain in the ass to remove again, I'm not even  sure it's all gone, as I tried installing the game again and only up to the second patch, but still couldn't get the game to run, fuck that.

Wonder if the next EP Apartments will re-break some of these fixes or do more harm to the game it self.

Not quite, I said only SPs are built on Pets engine. EPs can't do that, otherwise they'll lose all new functions and objects from post-Pets EPs.

Every EP includes the whole contents of last EP's object.package. (Stuffpack objects are not part of object.package since Celebration, that's why they remain outdated.) So Apartment Life will include the whole contents of FT object.package. The problem comes from the idiocy that EAxis is not carrying the change FT patch brought on FT object.package forward AL's object.package. As EAxis started to develop AL before they released FT patches, it means that they're building AL upon broken, unpatched FT engine. That's unavoidable, given the schedule, but any respectable game company will take the time to include the contents of FT patch in AL before they send AL to gold. They don't, because it means rewriting of changed codes and what not, heaven forbids the delayed release date. I think that's the reason why once-stomped bugs are constantly resurrected in the next EP.

I installed the old Patch and the new one. No problems with suckUrom (using only daemon tools, but don´t start it), no problems with playing.
Millions of bugs removed with this patch. I´m very happy about the rethinking with the Base Game Compability (TSS, B&K) and happy they are recognizing some Maty fixes (Biotech etc) Hope the third patch fix the next millions of bugs by using MATY.

I see the will to remove new AND old bugs. Maxis is absolutely on the correct road now.
Nice Patch for me.

The next patch could be the nuclear war extreme MATY patch, who knows.

You should know, I´m NOT a big friend of EAxis, but I begin rethinking about Maxis, I see the will in fixing first time. Compliment!

I was whiny in the German forum about the millions of bugs and specaly about B&K in an "harsh criticism B&K thread". Promote MATY fixes there. I focus the example of the Biotech staition and B&K base game compability. You must know that in Germans forum only  1 or 2 of the community are whiny, but the mods and our communitmanager are cool, they are allowed to discuss and post there own opinion. In Germany they discuss with us, in N-America they keep silent :-X or ask stupid ??? questions like issues with refrigerator. Of course, all the evidence they say thats right what we toled about the many bugs. They will go tell someone who can decide this points but they can´t promise that something happened (they know the invisible wall for normal support). I toled them that only Rod himself can decide this, so I would be interested in his voice and no other negative voice, what he is talking about the old bugs and the new ones. Give me citation from his voice about the problems ply.

http://www.sims.de/forums.view.asp?fID=32&tID=133427

Could all be hazard  :P or figment imagination ;D, that nothing have to do with this thread, but I think the German market is very essential and the points I focus are history now.

Open compressed.zip in your FT disk. Go to TSData\Res\Overrides and extract fresh Overrides.package to the same location under your FreeTime game folder.

Overrides.package is used to update Stuff Pack objects, like Teen objects that were updated to FreeTime. Probably the new patch added K&B objects in there.

Because Europeans had adopted DVD players in the PCs as standard as the USA was still using CDs, I guess that is because Europe is still PC land as the USA dropped PC in exchange for Consoles.

Its not "pawning" but knowing if they made expansions "DVD only" it would upset a part of their user base, its a question of average system specs.

That is why no company puts a game that requires a quad core 3.00 Hrz  with 4 Gb of RAM ... when they do something like that (say "Crysis") it usually hurts sales ... and then they blame piracy for it ...

I've read the entire thread and my two lingering questions remain unanswered:

1.  Is this patch worth installing?  (i.e. is the number and severity of bugs fixed by the patch greater than the number and severity of bugs created?)
2.  If I choose to install the patch which of my hacks can be removed?

Naturally, if the answer to #1 is "Yes" then I'll want the answer to #2 before proceeding.

1) Well it does fix the dancing contest bug, I think it is worth it since the only bitching about it was about SecuROM.
2) I think the only hacks that became redundant were the ones that enabled BV and Seasons functions to the new expansions objects.

Title: Re: Freetime Patch is out
Post by: Sagana on 2008 June 01, 00:07:48
I  think it's worth it - it's a huge list of fixes and people are reporting less lag/faster load time if it works for them. That's my experience as well - my game is sorta mysteriously "better" now. Back up your hoods and downloads first. My Desiderata hood just wasn't there after I patched. I put it back in from back up and it was fine. (Interestingly I've played Desiderata since I put in the previous patch but not my custom hood and the custom hood was fine. Maybe coincidence).

I can't say for sure what's not needed anymore. All the fixes would hafta be tested to be sure. The patch claims it fixed the biotech machine, but does it really? And for both virus and medicine even though it just mentions medicine? Anyways, I pull all my 'fix broken things' hacks and put back in the ones that fix things I notice wrong rather than the other way around. I'd rather not leave one I don't need as I'm afraid it'll conflict somehow with the game code if it fixes the same stuff.

Not exactly.

Wait to install FT until updated NoCD crack for patch is available.
Install FT.
Install patch.
replace .exe with crack
install KB
Run game from FT cracked.exe.

Okay, when I go to "c:\program files\EA GAMES\ The Sims2 Free Time\TSBin" I don't see "Sims2EP7.exe" all I see is "Sims2EP7", it says it's an application??? Am I doing something wrong? I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do with the "crack"?? I mean I know I'm supposed to replace the .exe file with the crack but it doesn't have .exe attached to it, and it says it's an application not a file?? I'm confused, lol.
Oh and is there a new "no-cd" crack for the FT patch?

Title: Re: Freetime Patch is out

That's it. It's just because starting with Windows XP(2000?) Microsoft decided to stupify it for people and not show file extensions by default. This is far more trouble than it's worth, as some virus will pretend to be other file types by having two extensions like durvirus.doc.exe. Try replacing it and see if it lets you, if it doesn't, then click on Tools then folder options. Open the View tab, then uncheck hide known file extensions. Hit OK. Now it should work. Oh! Backup the unmodified .exe so that in the unlikely that EA patches again, you'll have it and be ready.

simsbaby - you're too patient. I'm a teacher; what's your excuse?
Here the weird part. I'm tired. It's like 2 AM here. If I stay up past the time I normally go to sleep, I get really chatty and stop snapping at people. Few more hours and I'll get really hyper, then a few hours later I'll go crazy and start yelling again. It's weird, but I can use it to my advantage.  :P

I'll do it now, lol. But hey I do have one more question, if you will:
um there were to different files in the "no_cd" cracks rar. One of them was "Sims2EP7.exe"  and the other said "vitality.nfo(MSInfo Configuration File) do I put that in there too(TSBin)??

also I never could find securom anywhere on my computer. even though I installed the patch, and they say you can't get rid of it by unistalling. Still I followed the securom diretions, and found nothing on my computer, lol. So I don't know if that means I have it on my comp or not. but I can't get it to show by following the removal directions, vista or not

.nfo files in cracks or NoCDs are just plain readme text files. You don't have to put it into TSBin folder. Always read .nfo first when you're downloading NoCDs. Open it in notepad to read it. You can tell the exact version of executable that the NoCD is intended for by reading .nfo file.

It depends. Sometimes just a few days, sometimes a week or two, sometimes never.

Back in the blissful Securom-free days, patched NoCDs for Sims EPs were virtually nonexistent. There was really not much point to make NoCDs for patched executables which will surely be superseded by yet another EP only after a couple of months, when perfectly working "Fixed Images" were available. Plus Sims is not regarded as a "real game" in the mainstream video gaming scene.

Since BV, there was more demand for patched NoCDs. We got the NoCD for the first BV patch after 3 weeks. For the second patch, we got the NoCD only after a couple of days.
As the new "upgraded" version of Securom was already cracked for Mass Effect, I guess it wouldn't take a very long time for FreeTime as well.

So they 'fixed' 84 items and they claim they 'test' their own game to see if there are bugs?

Maybe someone should tell them that the 'testing' is done so they can fix the bugs before shipping the game.
Because, seen on the amount of 'bugs' they fixed, they just test it so they can say they tested it. They don't realise yet that the next step is not shipping the game, but to actually fix the bugs...

Now let's just hope that they've grown some brains somewhere that tell them that they should start building the next EP from the 'patched' engine. Who knows home many bugs will be in there otherwise? (My estimate is around 160...)

Anyway, I'm not patching unless I've found my 'patched no-dvd'... I don't want the 'securom' junk to update instal itself...

Oh! That helps a lot. Vista is MUSH SMERTER and hides that by default, so it won't confuzzle users. You have to press Shift, Ctrl, or Alt to make it show up, not sure which is which.

Really??  Well MY version of Vista shows the tools option.  One of the first things I did when the new comp came was unhide the file extensions.  Am I missing something?

I'm thinking the same - I managed to install P1 and everything is fine.  If P2 does not fix the obvious annoyances, I'll pass for the moment.  (I don't think I've even noticed the obvious annoyances, actually.)

You mean, as in the patch installs SecuRom when you run it?  Oh, definitely DNW, then.

(P.S.: colored text in messages is frowned upon here on MATY -- just a word to the wise...)

ETA: Ok, I checked the sources mentioned -- it appears you still have to run the new Sims7EP.exe to get the new, nastier SecuROM. It's not installed by just installing the patch.  So the wait for a no-cd.exe continues...

I attempted to install the patch last night.  No errors on the patch installation, but any attempt to actually run the game (either via the launcher or the Sims2EP7.exe -- I never use the launcher normally but tried it this time just in case it might have fixed it, no luck) just gave an error message, something about a "conflict with the emulation software".  This was before it even started up the game, let alone got to the neighborhoods, so it can't be hack-related.

I ended up uninstalling FT and reinstalling it.  Fortunately I managed to get a current backup of my hood from SimPE prior to uninstalling, so I didn't lose anything.

I'm running Vista, all EPs, and several of the SPs including the KBID one.  I have never had the slightest problem installing a patch before, but I'm not going to try that again.  What a waste of time!   >:(

That means that the new secuROM is unimpressed with the programs you have on your computer and demands that you uninstall some of your software. Most likely whatever you use to burn CDs. Removing secuROM and waiting for a no-CD recommended.

Does uninstalling FT and reinstalling from disk actually overwrite the new version of secuROM with the old one? If so, bet they "fix" that next. :p

What a freakin' joke this has all become.  :o EA is shoving this damn SecuRom down our throats at every turn and we're spending more time trying to fix our game than playing it.  Every time EA tries to pull one over on us we find a way around it so when are they going to realize this security thing is a fuck up? Playing with glitches that only modders can fix is bad enough but now they're shoving an ' updated ' SecuRom on us? WTF?? I didn't download the first patch for FT and I'm sure as Hell not getting the second one, either.  :P When I began playing The Sims1 and The Sims2 up to Seasons, all was well. No problems, very few glitches and no SecuRom. Now my game is glitchy as Hell, I've had to go to all the trouble of removing this gem of a fuck up and they're still more concerned about their precious security than fixing a game they broke? EA has taken most of the fun out of The Sims for me and I find that so sad.  But I am still mad as Hell about it and they will be hearing from me. Not that it'll do much good but maybe I'll feel better after venting.

There is a way to stop Vista from hiding the toolbar. I can't remember how it's done though. I did unhide it on my laptop and my mom's computer, and it wasn't hidden on my dad's laptop by default.

v1.0 is for unpatched game, and v1.1 is for 1st patch. Had you looked at the release date, you would have realized that v1.1 is for the old patch.

The sad thing about all this is that the federal goverment, through the passage of HR 4279 sponsored by John Conyers (D-MI), has pretty much given software manufacturers the legal right to do anything with regard to copyright protection.

The bill does not provide any rights to the consumer. The Copyright Alliance had pumped over $100,000.00 to get this passed. I have no idea what the MPA (Motion Picture Alliance) has made in payments through their lobbyists. I believe there was an addition made to this bill just recently. It is a pretty severe one. Software manufacturers can destroy consumers' computers and still be within legal rights in their pursuit of software protection. Of course this will encourage companies like Sony to get more aggressive in their actions to provide copyright protection to software manufacturers, and without any legal limitations.

I really don't see the problem with SecuRom.  It's not like this is some brand new thing that appeared out of nowhere to ruin Simmers' computers.  The copy protection has been around for what, maybe 10 years now.  Perhaps it seems "new" to people that only play the Sims 2 and nothing else, but SecuRom definitely isn't new.

For all the gamers out there, you can't just remove it.  You will need it for probably 50% of the games that came out in the last few years since it is the most widely used copy protection now.

I remember everyone raging about the StarForce protection, which is way more invasive than SecuRom.  But if you're a general gamer (and not just a Sims-only player), then you know all about SecuRom.  Personally, I don't mind the protection.  Just remove the pirate tools off your system (such as Alcohol 120% and Daemon Tools), and game should load fine for 99% of you.

It may have a few problems with some weird computer setups, but you can fill out that form at the Securom web site and they either send you a better game executable that should work or I think even a code to allow the game to run.  I think you guys are blowing this way way way out of proportion.

That's just my 2 cents so feel free to flame me all you want.

Companies have a right to protect their games and they have been doing so for over 20 years.

Says you who had no issue with Securom, several of us had various other issues that had nothing to do with pirate tools. Even without Deamon on my system I still had "Conflict with emulation software detected", I had the damn thing keep my Virus scan and my Ad-aware from updating completely and Ad-aware wouldn't even run with it on my system, it started to and then just hung there. I had my Firewall turned off repeatedly. No Virus scan, no firewall, yeah fun times. No freaking game is going to tell me what I can and can not have on my system nor is is going to dictate what software I can use(as it was doing with plenty of people and their innocent programs). A good potion of people had the damn thing disable their cd drives and burners. Which was all the "WAAAHH WAHHH SECUROM BROKE MY CD drive", nonsense. So it's all fine and dandy for people who have no issues with it, but what about those of us that do? Yeah, a lot of consumers are idiots, so it's quite possible that several of the instances that showed up during that whole BV HAS SECUROM! thing was just stupidity, but there was plenty that wasn't. I know of at least two people who had drive problems with it on their computer, I trust them to have not been idiots, and I trust other members on this forum to not be idiots about their PC as well. I'm not going to accept that some corporation has to give their okay as to what I can have on my PC. I bought their damn game I have my cd key as proof that I bought their game. How I run it is none of their business. I thought they passed some kind of law on personal pcs, that they were considered personal property, you had to have a warrant to search it and such. Well securom is trespassing. Damn kids, get off my lawn.

Just remove the pirate tools off your system (such as Alcohol 120% and Daemon Tools), and game should load fine for 99% of you.

And FWIW, there are legitimate reasons to use Alcohol (CD/DVD archiving, for example) and Daemon Tools (to run legitimately owned software without having to put the CD in every time, and to speed up game loading), so calling them 'pirate tools' is a sign of severe brainwashing by the companies who use invasive and/or harmful forms of copy protection.

And also FWIW, I have legitimate copies of all my games, and I still prefer to run them with various no-cd tools or exes.

QFE.

At some point game companies decided it would be cute to turn the CD/DVD drive into a glorified dongle.  PC games run mostly from hard disk these days, so the software company requiring that the original media be in the drive when you play is an offensive and annoying means of getting you the average legitimate user to spend time playing their game and not someone else's, or to waste time pissing about with the physical media.  So is it really any surprise when the average legitimate user gives them the finger and bypasses the 'GIVE ME DONGLE!' routine?

Using tools like Alcohol and DT to play the games you paid money for isn't piracy, but it will stop you from going insane if you haven't done so already.

Currently I am in college working on my degree in Game and Simulation Programming.  I want to be part of the game industry but I sure as hell don't want to put crap like SuckuRom into my programs.  I do not and never will support piracy in any form, that would be like saying I don't want a paycheck for working.  However, I also do not support treating customers like criminals or putting invasive software on their computers that detracts from their enjoyment of the product I am producing.  As a game producer my job will be to make software that makes people, gives them an escape from reality, or otherwise improves their lives in some small way... crap like SuckuRom does exactly the opposite.

It's interesting the way some brainwashed people allow their property to be manipulated by some private corporate entities without judicial power. So today it may be just a trifle annoyance with a couple of emulation softwares. What makes them believe that the same corporations will not go further than that? How naive. Tomorrow it could very well be our personal information, sent home in encrypted form via "online validation", all done in the virtuous cause of "protecting intellectual property". Corporations in general do not give a flying fuck about respecting privacy of their customers. That's why we customers have to fight tooth and nail to protect ourselves from bottomless corporate greed.

Hey, folks. Does anyone know if the instructions for this crack listed @ gamecopyworld is for patch 2? Or 3?:

* Install the game - Full Installation.
    * Apply the official The Sims 2: Freetime v1.13.0.161 Patch.
    * Replace the original SIMS2EP7.EXE file with the one from the File Archive.
    * Play the Game!

Looks like it's probably the new one on the official site, but I just wanted to be sure, before messing with anything.

If you right click, scroll to properties on the download link for the official patch, it gives you the version number.

The new fixed exe at GCW is for the patch available for download today.  Not sure which patch that is though, but it is version 1.13.0.161.

This is the address it gives.
http://thesims2.ea.com/update/exe/ep7/1.13.0.161/sims2ep7_patch.exe

It also shows at the bottom of your browser window (IE) if you hover over the download link.

Because it bundles in the SecuROM several other fixes that ought to have been fixed years ago for other EPs?

I'm sticking with the first patch, now that my sim can catch all the butterflies I don't really care about the other problems.

Installed it, re-cracked it, seems to be working. I had a problem with the "overrides.package", where the game would quit patching there and claim a reinstall was in order. But referring to a different thread here (or was it earlier on in this one??) I found that mounting the iso of freetime (or inserting the dvd or disc 2 if you have the cds), extracting the "overrides.package" from the disc (in a compressed folder) and replacing the one in your ea folder with the one from the compressed folder on your disc allowed the patch to install.
ETA: It no longer brings up that box that informs you about updates when you click the freetime exe... Too bad, I sort of liked that. It gave me some time to reconsider bringing the game up, in case I wanted to do one more thing. Ah well!

What? The launcher? That's because the launcher has it's own exe. Click on that one. Although, I think some people had issues with getting it to start the game if they changed the game exe, but I think that may have been with the Securom supplied exe.

So say we all. Pescado's fixes tend to, for instance, fix things. As opposed to EA's Russian roulette approach, in which the error may be fixed but pretty much guarantees breakage elsewhere. I swear, it's like they have a finite number of things they're allowed to have working at any given time, so adding something to the fixed column demands an addition to the borkage to keep the scales balanced.

Since you installed it... Any idea what caused Patch 2 and Patch 3 to be 80+ meg while Patch 1 was skinny?  I've been holding off on installing FT patches until they get somewhere close to being right, but the larger size is a major red flag.  It is the largest patch they have ever released.

Patch 1 only fixed about four or five things, compared to Patch 2/3's 30+ bugfixes. Patch 2 and 3 also came with more yummy Securom updates, all for no extra charge.

What if you have a Securom-free computer? Will the 3rd patch take care of that fact and install it? I didn't see any update between 2nd and 3rd patch (other than the Securom and EA Store things, which don't concern me at all) and so I'd prefer the 2nd patch instead (but then again, no crack for that yet).

If you don't run the game from the default .exe, you won't get SecuROM. Just patch with original .exe in place, apply crack, and run game from crack.

Still SecuROM free since BV!

Securom is in the main .exe, they are never relevant to how large a patch is because the .exe is always updated even if just to show its a new "version".

Can't be a hell of a lot of difference, other than the SecuRom crap.  I had downloaded the 2nd patch a while back and applied it and the no-CD crack today without realizing there was a third one, and when I went to get the third one and tried to apply it, it told me Free Time was already up to date.

Thank you Jaldeer and AmberDicelss,

I did miss the last two items on the list.

The differences between patch 2 and 3 (for anyone else wondering)

Patch 2
Item 84 - Resolved an issue where some players started their game through the launcher or clicked on the game executable, but never saw the game splash screen on monitor.

Patch 3

Item 84 - Updated SecuRom version to resolve an issue where some players started their game through the launcher or clicked on the game executable, but never saw the game splash screen on monitor and fixed emulation problems players were experiencing.

Item 85 - Added a new command line option "-blackfont" to make in-game fonts appear in black.

Item 86 - Updated game code in order for The SimsTM 2 FreeTime to be compatible with The SimsTM 2 Store Edition. For users who have The SimsTM 2 FreeTime Expansion Pack installed, this patch must be installed in order to run The SimsTM 2 Store Edition with The SimsTM 2 FreeTime Expansion Pack. This patch runs automatically if FreeTime is already on your computer and you install The SimsTM 2 Store Edition on top of it.

As I don't give a damn about the Sims 2 Store I am going to stick with patch 2 and try out the new fixed exe posted at GCW.

In short, patch 3 says what exactly patch 2 DID to "resolved an issue where some players started their game through the launcher or clicked on the game executable, but never saw the game splash screen on monitor" plus a command line for black fonts and EA paysite support.

Out of curiousity: What happens when you do that? I used to do that same thing, before I knew I had to get a new crack. Nothing ever seemed to happen, but I assume now that it used to just overwrite the changes the patch made...?

Well, I bit the bullet and installed the new patch.  I played for about 2 hours afterwards and everything seems just fine.  I still have all the awesome hacks in though and haven't took them out and it seems that everything works ok.

I do have a question though about Townies.  I moved a townie in with one of my families and when I went to get him a job it tells me you have some homework to do, even though he is an adult and it won't let me get him a job.  This has happened before.  I used the Lot Debugger to upgrade him from pre-uni but he still couldn't get a job.

I finally had to age him down to a teen and use a hack to give him an A+ and then grow him back up so he could get a job but I really don't like doing this as it really changes them.  Is there any fix for this, I thought the Lot Debugger should fix him when you upgrade him from pre-uni.

Well, I will confirm that this patch has significant performance improvements in it (probably introduced in Patch 2).   I went from no patches to Patch 3 directly and the current lot I am on has a 5-10 fps performance boost and improved camera movement.  The latter improvement startled me.  I did not notice any decrease in startup time.  I am running the official EXE since SecuROM is not a problem on this machine.

Because I don't see where it is posted, here are all the FT files that were updated on my system by Patch 3.  Looks like objects.package was changed since patch 2.

I have to make clear, I don't have patch 2 here so I have no way to compare the objects.package in patch 2 with the one in patch 3.  Of course, just because the date changes does not guarantee that the content changed.  I suppose they could have repackaged the Patch 2 one with the Patch 3 date.

There is a new, NoCD patch on GCW for Patch #3.

So far, I haven't come across any problems with Patch #3.  It still doesn't fix everything as well as the fixes done by Lord Darcy.  Correct me if I'm wrong Lord Darcy, but I don't think I need the K&B fix anymore.  I can get leftovers and tinker, although I haven't been able to test it for platters and composting yet.

Although some stuff is fixed for Teen Style Stuff, I find that I'll still need Darcy's fix because EA didn't fix it completely.  And then there are the fixes that Darcy has made to fix animations for all the Pets, Celebration Stuff, and H&M stuff.  Lord Darcy is very helpful and explains on his patches that Freetime still doesn't fix certain "glitches" that EA hasn't fixed yet.

I think my K&B fix was made obsolete by the second FT patch. Though the K&B toilets and the coffee maker still miss some bits in BCON, it's possible they're never used anyway.

But I confirmed a new problem in the fixed K&B dishwasher, which affects only non-English games. EAxis fucked up the pie menu string of K&B dishwasher for non-English languages. "Get Out of the Way" will come up instead of "Tinker", though Sims are still able to Tinker it anyway. How could they manage to fuck up such a simple thing like this? >:( I'll post a new fix soon. New fix is up. (http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php/topic,11717.0.html) The old version won't work anymore, as EAxis changes the group of fixed SP objects for no sensible reason.

Although some stuff is fixed for Teen Style Stuff, I find that I'll still need Darcy's fix because EA didn't fix it completely.

Teen objects were updated by FreeTime itself, albeit poorly. Any subsequent FT patches didn't change anything. My TSS-FT fix from March is still needed whether you patched FT or not.

And then there are the fixes that Darcy has made to fix animations for all the Pets, Celebration Stuff, and H&M stuff.

Unless you see a new version of SP objects in Overrides.package in Overrides folder, you can be sure that they were not updated by a patch or a new EP. (Except for FFS and GLS, as objects from this first 2 SPs are included in Objects.package itself.)

Lord Darcy is very helpful and explains on his patches that Freetime still doesn't fix certain "glitches" that EA hasn't fixed yet.

Thanks, baa. ;)

I'm getting a glitch with the new noCD? For some reason my walls all cost zero. It's probably some sort of hack conflict with the new patch, but it could be the noCD, so I thought I'd ask before doing the long 50/50 process.

Try a different no-cd if you can find one. Build and buy mode issues are sometimes a sign of a bad no-cd.

I don't have such a problem in my hack-free AnyGame. I installed the 3rd FT patch and used the new NoCD. Have you encountered any problem during the installation of the 3rd FT patch?

It must have been some kind of quirk because it hasn't happened on any other lot. I'm going to have to go back to that lot to see if the walls cost there but false alarm people, sorry.

Is it fine to leave in Awesomeland hacks and Lord Darcy's stuff and still patch the game, or once patching do we have to take some out?  Because I'm pretty sure there are some user-made fixes that the patch doesn't address..  So yeah, I'm curious if keeping other fixes will cause issues upon patchment.

I've left the fixes in since patching my game and it seems to be running fine.

ok, sorry if this sounds naive, still a little baffled...

the new exe contains a patch?

Um, no -- the 3rd patch contains an even worse version of SecuROM.  You still need to get the no-cd exe from a reliable source, like gamecopyworld.

I've found an annoyance since installing the patch- the always crying babies are back. I had my first babies born in-game since the patch, and both spent their entire infancy screaming unless being held, despite the fact that their portraits were green. When I grew them up, their fun bars were tanked, which never occured before the patch. Ugh, I thought this bug was long gone!

An even worse version? Ugh... I'm afraid to screw around in the registry to remove the current one as it is (turns out it installed with Neverwinter Nights 2, and my computer was behaving as normal so yeah.) Sounds like this patch addresses some things that could be relevant to me though. Where are the Lord Darcy fixes you were talking about?

Edit: Actually, I just made myself look like a total noob. Instead- does the procedure outlined in the "HOW TO REMOVE SECUROM NOW" thread work on this new version? (.. and on Vista?)

Edit 2: Electric Boogaloo: ... Huh, that's interesting. I don't seem to have it. With viewing hidden folders on, there is no SecuROM folder under AppData, or anywhere else apparently when I use Search. Maybe it's a Vista compatibility thing (but you'd think a Vista version would have come with FT)... Well, no-CD crack is going in, because I'm not going to inflict it on myself now. XD

You must have an outdated hack lurking in your downloads somewhere -- I've had no problem with babies, crying or otherwise, after installing the patch, and I've had at least 3 born since then.

Well, just to add my personal experience.  No problems w/ patch #1, no problems w/ patch #2, then patch #3 stopped towards the end of installing, said there had been an error and I should reinstall Freetime.  I thought perhaps there had been a problem w/ my download, so I redownloaded it and tried again to install it.  The same error.  I uninstalled and reinstalled Freetime which completely reset my game.  Now I have no patch at all.  Someone said that Patch #3 didn't install well over Patch #2.  If that's the case perhaps I should try installing Patch #3 now.  But if Patch #3 just sucks, well perhaps I should skip it.
Not worried about Securom because it's already on my computer.

Some people reported they encountered an error in Overrides.package towards the end. Unlike Patch 1, Patch 2 altered that file to fix K&B stuff. Perhaps that's the reason Patch 3 doesn't install well over Patch 2. I installed Patch 3 over Patch 1, and had no problem at all.

Now I have no patch at all.  Someone said that Patch #3 didn't install well over Patch #2.  If that's the case perhaps I should try installing Patch #3 now.  But if Patch #3 just sucks, well perhaps I should skip it.
There is very little difference between patch 2 and 3. The only reason EAxis posted patch 3 was to make FT identify Store crap. But if you already uninstalled/reinstalled FT, and don't mind Securom, no need to install patch 2 at this point. Go on to patch 3. I'm running patch 3 with NoCD and have not encountered a problem yet.

I can only find a noDVD crack for Patch 3 at Game Copy World. Anyone know of a GOOD noCD crack?

Doesn't matter -- it's the same .exe, and works whether you have the CD version or DVD version.  Only difference is that the DVD version comes with only one disk, while the CD has two disks. :)

before patch three i could play the game with no problem. but after it, even with the cd it says 'emulation software detected' so i tried to use the nocd (which i don't like using very much) but all I get is an error ???! and the error doesn't say anything (it is a blank box with a red X to the left) does anyone know why this is?
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling freetime again. I also have the two last stuffpacks too.. do i need a nocd for them too? thanks!

Delete your groups.cache.
This will tell you how:

First issue (emulation software error): You have SecuROM. See stickied thread for removal instructions.
Second issue (blank box error): do as morriganrant directs.

Title: FT Patch #3 + NoInstantLove?
Post by: pseudonymph on 2008 July 18, 11:48:50
Is it compatible? I ask because soon after I fired up my game, one of my married couples, who both happen to be BFFs with this one particular sim, ended up falling in love with her. I had no such problems until I patched my game again. ACR and NoInstantLove were working fine for me. I asked over at the ACR forum too about this, but I just wanna know if Pescado's hack is cool with the latest FT Patch.

Thanks in advance.

Has anyone else noticed that since patching their game their sims hug each other a lot more?
Inevitably in my game this has led not to sharing the lurve but causing fights...

No. Maybe they're trying to CRUSH THEIR OPPONENT'S RIBS?
