Title: Kitchen & Bath Stuff Objects Fix - SNS/FT Functions Enabled (Updated 2008/07/10)
Post by: Lord Darcy on 2008 April 16, 21:18:31
(http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff243/creamgray/The%20Sims%202/LD_SP7KBIDObjectsFix_Fridge.jpg)

New fridges, appliances and plumbing fixtures in Kitchen & Bath Stuff Pack are missing functions added after Seasons. Official stuff pack objects working no better than some outdated custom objects, how lovely. They're based on Pets version, so none of Seasons functions (Get Leftovers/Stock/Compost) and FT functions (Serve Platter/Tinker) are working.

This mod will enable all missing Seasons and FT functions for KBID objects.
Only needed for Seasons or later EPs. Not needed for Pets or older EPs. At least Sims can bathe dogs in the new clawfeet bathtub. (And thank God for that, updating pre-Pets bathtub would have been a nightmare.)

There are 3 versions of this fix. ONLY choose one of them, depending on your latest EP and patch.
If you use FT version when your latest EP is either Seasons or BV, the game will throw an error whenever you mouse-hover on the K&B Trash Compactor.

  • zLdDarcy_SP7KBIDObjectsFix_FTp2.package: Your latest EP is FreeTime, and have applied the 2nd patch or later
  • LdDarcy_SP7KBIDObjectsFix_FT.package: Your latest EP is FreeTime, but have NOT applied the 2nd patch or later
  • LdDarcy_SP7KBIDObjectsFix_SNS.package: Your latest EP is either Seasons or Bon Voyage

List of objects fixed by this mod:

  • Solid Sense Fridge by Romantic Notions (Fridge - Romantic) : Get Leftovers/Stock (SNS), Serve Platter (FT)
  • The Coldinator by Kitchensations (Fridge - Stylish) : Get Leftovers/Stock (SNS), Serve Platter (FT)
  • Garbage Ninja by Kitchensations (Trash Compactor Stylish) : Compost Contents (SNS), Tinker (FT)
  • Big and Brown Dishwasher by Romantic Notions (Dishwasher - Romantic) : Tinker (FT)
  • SuperJet Corner Shower by Sleek Sensations (Shower - Stylish) : Tinker (FT)
  • You Got Feets Bathtub (Tub - Romantic) : Tinker (FT)

I also updated some of codes for KBID Coffee Maker, 2 Toilets and Microwave, just in case.
Some bits about PlantSim toddlers and temperature were missing.

Seems that EAxis is almost expecting for modding community to clean up their mess. Base game compatibility my arse. How could it be THAT difficult to check the latest EP upon installation? Or to provide a simple patch on the official website, so that later EP owners can enjoy new functions? If an average player like me can make a quick fix with third party tool just in one day, then bunch of PAID professional programmers can damn well find a workaround, if they only care. This is just pure laziness.
/rant over

2008-07-10: v1.01 - Added a new version for FreeTime 2nd patch or later. Fixed the wrong pie menu text of Romantic Dishwasher in non-English games.

The second and third FT patch updated most of K&B objects to FT, but EAxis as usual did a poor job, fucking up pie menu text of Romantic Dishwasher in all non-English games. "Get Out of The Way" will come up instead of the appropriate equivalent of "Tinker".
Also, the patch didn't update some missing codes in K&B Coffee Maker, Toilets and Tub, which may or may not affect the gameplay in a subtle way. It's possible those missing bits are never used in game anyway.

If you're playing game in English and do not mind those missing codes, you can remove my fix. But if you'd rather get missing codes just in case, or if you're playing non-English game, get the new version for FT second patch. (Don't forget to remove the old version.) The installation location was changed, please read the instruction carefully.

This fix was rolled into Stuff Pack Objects Fix Collection for Apartment Life (http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php/topic,12894.0.html) in Apartment Life. Remove it, and get the new AL fix. (http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/Themes/babylon/images/english/new.gif)

Installation:

FreeTime (Unpatched or Patch 1) and Seasons version

Place in your My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Downloads folder.
(Or in a subfolder of Downloads folder.)

 FreeTime Patch 2 version

  C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\The Sims 2 FreeTime\TSData\Res\Overrides
(or the corresponding folder on your system if your game isn't installed in C:\Program Files)

DO NOT remove z- prefix in the filename. It is for ensuring that the fix is loaded after SP objects, overriding original settings.

Changelog:

 v1.0: Initial Release.
v1.01: Added a new version for FreeTime 2nd patch or later. (2008/07/10)
Fixed the wrong pie menu text of Romantic Dishwasher in non-English games.

This is truly pathetic. I can almost understand it when SPs miss the last EP's updates, but updates from a year-old EP? Good grief. Thank you for the fix.

Also, where did you get the female Sim's hair?

That particular hairstyle counts as a mark against the SP to me.  What is this fascination people have with hair that falls right in the Sim's eyes?  :p

One of my 'hoods is having a bout of ugly genes. Luckily, it's just the eyes, but they all the women look a bit...off...because of it. The men still look great, as the one who has little eyes also has kind of a sad, downturned mouth and it all works for him. I need more hairs that camouflage a bit.

Damn. Must take moar anti-stupid medicine. Am waiting for this SP to arrive Friday (Stupid UK and different release dates).

If I was ever in any doubt about whether EA deserves actualy money for its crap, then the last vestiges have gone.

And how typical that the community has the fixes, which in all probability EA will never even acknowledge were necessary.

Oh yeah ... <pauses to test speakers are working> Thanks, this was great. ::)

I'm more pissed off by that it's only for adults and old people. I could way more easily see a teenager or a kid with their hair like that.

Thanks LD. Rocks my socks.

Thanks LD. I haven't even got the SP yet, but it doesn't surprise me that they haven't made it compatible with earlier EPs. EAxis are total shit and should rot in the deepest pit of hell. They are so confident that modders would provide fixes for their inferior products, so they release untested with all EP&SP configs. Bastards.

*Emma presses the 'baa' button for LD

[edit to speculate] I wonder if they will release a patch to fix this SP before or after the FT patch? :-\

I alpha-edited the bangs to NOT be in the sim's eyes, which made a huge improvement. I'd upload it, only it comes linked with the usual straight-parted in the middle hair, and I haven't bothered to try to un-tangle that.

[edit to speculate] I wonder if they will release a patch to fix this SP before or after the FT patch? :-\

I don't think EAxis will release a standalone patch for the stuff pack itself. EAxis never released a standalone patch for Teen Style Stuff either, ignoring similar issue with outdated Teen computer and stereo missing BV functions. They included updates only in FreeTime, completely disregarding BV players without FT. (If you want fixes for past EPs, go buy new EP!) Not to mention that those updates were such in poor quality that I had to make yet another fix (http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=275502) for those "updates".

Probably they'll include the fix for KBID objects only in the next Apartments L&P, only to botch it royally like that b0rked GLS dining chair disabled for humans in FreeTime (http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=263078).

The PHAIL is more noticeable this time though, even BBS Sheeples are complaining. For once, EAxis may release a patch before they release the next IKEA L&P.

Yeah-if even the sheep are complaining then EAxis usually take notice and do something about it. Usually breaking other stuff in the process though. ::)

Uh, no. Think about that for a minute, will you? Let's say you aren't a completionist. Let's say you got NL and OFB, skipped Pets and Seasons, then got BV. Guess what? The items from BV still have pets options (scratching, chewing) and Seasons options (leftovers, struck by lightning) available to them, even if you wait until 2049 to get Pets or Seasons.

There also were not any real significant problems with Seasons. BV, the only major problem was the NPC spawning, which was fixed by a hack and then by their patch. FT...is still kinda borked.  Oh, there's SecuROM...but Kitchen & Bath has SecuROM as well. EAxis doesn't listen to their customers, don't you know?

Conclusion: You are a dumbass. Borrow a couple of brain cells, and reacquaint yourself with your SHIFT key.

I've fiddled around in SimPE and managed to apply Annan's alpha file to the five original textures. 7Zip archives are attached below, split into two parts only because the five textures together in one file is 45kB over the damn filesize limit for this forum. >:( My package just overrides the original textures for these hairstyles, so if you drop the package somewhere in your Downloads folder, all Sims who have this hairstyle will now not have their faces covered by hideous bangs.

Feel free to distribute these files as you wish, as long as credit is given to Annan for creating the alpha replacement in the first place.

I'm looking at the two screenshots, and I'm trying to figure out why Annan's is so much more attractive.  It's the eyes, isn't it?  I've never bothered with custom eyes, but if that's what's going on here, it's a convincing argument for them.

Mine are actually custom too, but oepu's Maxis matching custom eyes. They themselves look a billion times better than the original ones although it's not as noticeable with the darker colours. I am a sucker for Maxis-like stuff; realistic sclera on Sims freaks me out. Look out, it's the uncanny valley!  :o

It's amazing what facial expressions and camera angles will do. Sometimes in CAS closeups (like when picking hair) my Sims always smile and sometimes they always have a neutral expression. In that screen she's obviously neutral but I booted up the game again just now and every single CAS Sim is smiling. Does anyone know what affects that? Am I just crazy? I don't want to be crazy!

When you delete stuff like hair or makeup (which you can't do now because EAxis broke it) the sim smiles like an idiot. To fix it I either press on 1 (the naming, gender, skintone etc bit) or 5 (clothing) on the CAS buttons then go back to the selection screen I was on.

That's the old default wedding dress from before whichever EP allowed normal custom formalwear to be used for weddings (OFB?), and shouldn't be showing up in your wardrobe anyway, as far as I know. Did you have a hack to enable it in the first place?

MTS2 is down for maintenance right now so I can't link to his profile, but I know Ephemera has Teru K, or possibly Teru_K, as his screenname there. I don't know why he doesn't rename his files to match it though.

No, but it became buyable as from OFB (I think?) once the formalwear was enabled to be used for weddings. I don't think it shows up in Bodyshop-I'll just check.

[edit] Nope, it's gone. ::)

This is yet another typical PHAIL by EAxis. As KBID stuff is based on Pets engine, Property Sets of all base game clothing are now updated to Pets as well. (Bodyshop version 4) Instead of updating newer Property Set of wedding dress included in OFB, they updated unused version included in the base game. The hide flag in the base game version is now back to the wedding dress, so it's hidden in CAS and Bodyshop just like back in pre-OFB days. I discovered this when all my clothing unlockers for base game clothing stopped working after installing KBID.

Made a quick fix. Will post it soon. Fix is now here (http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php/topic,11736.0.html).

Moving existing unlockers to the new location will do. No need to alter the unlocker file itself.

C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\The Sims 2 Kitchen & Bath Interior Design Stuff\TSData\Res\Catalog\Skins

I moved all my unlockers to the above location. Unlockers for other EPs/SPs still work in the new location.
I made a subfolder for the unlockers, and made sure they load after Skins.package by naming subfolder as "Unlockers".

I installed the fix from Lord Darcy[thank you] and proceeded to play only to find I still have none of the functions working[no tinkering, repairs, etc.] The fridge/leftover function does work but now the clean up bot leaves plates everywhere and there are no actions to pick them up. I would appreciate any help with this. Thanks, kidede.

Are you sure you chose the correct version for your game? SNS version only enables Get Leftovers/Stock/Compost, while FT version enables Serve Platters/Tinker in addition to SNS functions. If you have FT but installed SNS version fix, you'll get Leftovers but not Tinker.

"Clean up" function doesn't come up on plates? But this mod doesn't alter anything about plate itself. Did you try it in hack-free vanilla game?

This is working out great for me, so thank you lots.
I was wondering if I could throw out a request to you since you're on a roll with fixing these types of things.
Have you noticed that, most ridiculously, the male handkerchief hair with the ponytail actually becomes the buzz-cut (army-style) when the sims are in undies/pjs/formal etc...
The worst part about that is that the Sims has a perfectly fine ponytail that could have been used that would have made so much more sense. It's just so....ridiculous that they wouldn't have tied it to something else...I don't know many people who wear long, fake ponytail's under their handkerchiefs.  ::)
I have no idea where to even begin with redirecting those to a more suitable mesh, so if you're in any sort of mood to add that into these mods, it would be very much appreciated.
Otherwise, if someone wants to shout over some info on how to go about it, I can give it a shot (in the dark, mind you). :)
Thanks again for this.

If you have seasons, you can choose different hairstyles for different types of outfits. I presume this feature carried over to later expansions..?

Unless you're complaining about the mesh itself, then feel free to ignore me.

Yes I installed Freetime function as that is my most recent ep. Clean up seemed to work before that. Perhaps I will try with some hacks disabled to try and fix problem. Would appreciate any other helpful suggestions. Thanks.

heh, did you notice that the female towel hair can be worn with outerwear  ::)

I second this request, please fix all the new hair. I'd be perfectly happy to have it all available no matter what a sim is wearing (even if pregnant) ...well except maybe the towel hair  ::)

some of the category choices just make no sense to me and I would truly rather have them available in every category rather then not having them in the category I want.  Theres plenty of times (in my past) that I walked around the house with my hair done and makeup on while still in my pjs.

Same here, I'd rather see the handkerchief in the shower rather than seeing his hair get buzzed off every time, lol.
I didn't notice the towel hair that you mentioned, Sleepycat, but I need not see it to believe it. ;)
I am so lost as to the logic of the choices.  It's hard to even imagine someone saying, "okay, the buzz-cut seems to be fitting"....So, perhaps this was a complete oversight?
I dunno, I am oh so confused. ::)

Thanks Annan and Maxwell - that's so much better - I can't believe EAMaxis thought people would actually like that hairstyle with the bangs in the face.  I love that hairstyle, but, not with the bangs in the face.  You both making the bangs shorter and not in the face makes the hair so much better.

Okay, my Sims keep throwing errors at me, but I have no clue what action is causing them, as they seem to be just standing there, or even just greeting someone, or various other seemingly-unrelated actions. The first thing the error logs say on most of them is 'Interaction - Tinker - TEST' and related to a kbs object. (I attached one). Is it possible this mod is doing this? Is there somewhere I can get a crash course on reading an error log to at least narrow down the cause? Sorry if I'm completely off-base. I just can't find a common denominator to these errors. Even trying to repeat the aborted action doen't replicate the problem reliably.

Looks like KBS shower isn't present in this lot. If this error is indeed related to the KBS shower, the object name should be Shower - Stylish, not Shower - Cheap, which means base game cheap shower (or custom showers cloned from it).   Do you still get this error in the hack-free game except this mod? In all lots, or only in some lots?

I had something similar happen with a CS shower.
Hover over the shower would be enough to make the sim error. Its caused by an older Repair/ Explore or somethingelse BHAV i am not sure how she was named before FT. She got replaced with the Tinker BHAV. You may be not aware you hover over here (she may be covered by a wall)but you get the error.

I see. Sorry. That was one of 10 or more error logs from that lot I randomly picked. I was using K&B kitchen stuff, but it seems to be the tinker interaction locking up the game. When I hover over anything that sims can theoretically tinker with, the sim errors. I suppose since it's not strictly K&B related, it's not this mod. I will have to strip the game of hacks to find out.
On a side note, when my male sim was in the shower and errored, he appeared naked beside the shower, look down at himself, nodded approvingly, then got dressed again. A highly amusing action, which makes me wonder what exactly Eaxis was programing in there.

It has nothing to do with hacks its related to every custom object that sims can theoretically tinker with, but they are not properly updated.
Its a wrong BHAV called from the Objects Pie Menue who makes the Sim Error.

No, it's not that. I wasn't using custom objects at all. Playing without any hacks installed the game was fine. Same for FFS hacks. I'm adding stuff back in slowly (anyone else's game take 30 mins. to load?). I'm pretty sure this hack wasn't the cause, though, so sorry for bothering you and thanks anyway.

Okay, I realize that I'm probably the only one still playing the Sims 2, but I have something to add to this conversation.

Yesterday I fired up my game and several objects were missing. The most expensive refrigerator, romantic stove, footed stove, romantic dishwasher and a round mirror, just to name a few. In the houses that they were placed in, the object was not visible, but the space was occupied.

I could not highlight or delete the invisible items because they technically weren't there. The sledgehammer would sometimes delete the item, but sometimes it wouldn't. There was no set pattern on what it would delete and what it wouldn't.

The items came from Kitchens & Bath Interior Design. Also missing from this game were all hair that came with this particular game, all clothes that came with this particular game, cabinets, bathroom tiles and flooring, besides the other stuff mentioned. Flooring and paint were easily re-covered over since you don't have to delete the previous object before re-painting or re-flooring.

This morning I decided to re-load the entire game series, starting with the original Sims 2 disks. But when I got to Kitchens & Bath Interior Design, when I got into the game, the items were completely missing, as in, in the display panel, "No Pic" was displayed instead of the picture of the item. When I selected the "item", because the game would still let me, the items were still invisible but would still take up space.

All of these items coincidentally, are the ones you made the patch for. I did not install your patch...yet. If I decide to load your patch, I will let you know if it brought back these items.

I made no changes or updates to my PC from the time I played it and everything worked/was there, until the time I played it and stuff was missing.

If anyone is still playing the Sims 2, you might want to consider deleting these items before they disappear and you have a "blank space" that you cannot move another item into.

1. This isn't something that'll be fixed by installing LordDarcy's fix. I don't know why you'd think so, as described in the first post her fixes only add later EP features to some of the objects that EA, in their infinite wisdom, left out.

2. Sounds like your K&B installation got corrupted, or your game was just having a bad day. Have you tried deleting your cache files and starting the game again, to make sure this is a permanent issue and not just a one time thing? If the problem persists, try uninstalling and reinstalling K&B.
