Title: The stupid trees are back!
Post by: Emma on 2007 December 12, 12:48:02
Remember the random spawning maple trees?

Crap. I think Teen Style Stuff broke it. Stupid EAxis.

Hmm. Ponderances. The trees are broken even though Teen Crap doesn't even contain trees? Is this an ACTUAL tree that is ON the lot, or a Falsetree from the neighborhood? Because I see some blurry objects which are neighborhood objects, and your tree in the lot is also blurry. Does it go away when neighborhood crap is deactivated?

Title: Re: The stupid trees are back!
Post by: Emma on 2007 December 12, 13:38:52
No, it doesn't go away. It is not an actual tree, the only other trees on my lot that you can see in the picture are the 3 fruit trees.

Not even if you deactivate the display of neighborhood items under "Show Neighbors/Props"?

Post by: Emma on 2007 December 12, 14:07:55
Nope.

Update-now it is winter and the tree has shed its leaves, it has moved from beside the driveway. It is now in the middle of the road.

[edit] They are spreading throughout my neighbourhood! There are 2 inside my Lucky Card Shack lot.

*Emma is getting pissed off

I wonder if it is the festive stuff pack causing it? There are new trees in that.

It seems fairly obvious that this is a regression of the bug that Seasons patch 2 (1.7.0 r158) fixed.

Quote
Un-moveable maple trees in neighborhood view will no longer appear at random.

Well I thought of that-and tried to install the Seasons patch. It says my game is already up-to-date.

Post by: snowbawl on 2007 December 12, 17:43:21
I was going to start a thread about a very similar problem.  I have trees that spawn in my houses (among other places).  They disappear randomly...and reappear elsewhere, randomly, all while playing the same lot (without saves or off-lot visits).  These trees appear on my lots while playing...not in my neighborhood view.  These trees "look" like neighborhood-view trees and cannot be moved in any way, although the game recognizes that they are taking up space (sims will walk around them/not be able to reach things, etc. until they disappear).  There are no errors being generated.  This started after I installed BV...I am not patched.

Post by: Emma on 2007 December 12, 17:45:39
Have you any patches at all snowbawl? Namely the seasons patch?

Title: Re: The stupid trees are back!
Post by: snowbawl on 2007 December 12, 18:02:57
patched up to Seasons...should I patch BV?

Title: Re: The stupid trees are back!
Post by: Emma on 2007 December 12, 18:22:59
I have all the patches and it is still broke re: the tree issue.

Title: Re: The stupid trees are back!
Post by: snowbawl on 2007 December 12, 18:36:03
Yeah, I don't think the BV patch addresses this problem anyway.

My Mapletrees are fine, i have all EPs and Stuffpacks + Teenstyle. The old ones broken by Seasons where from other Lots not random spawning Trees. Is this a Vacation Hood Emma ?

Title: Re: The stupid trees are back!
Post by: dawnkeeper on 2007 December 13, 01:37:56
I had the same thing happen! My sim left for work in their car and could not return because some phantom trees spawned randomly over the driveway and caused some sort of error.

I could not delete them or anything. I basically had to restart that lot. It was especially annoying because I had not saved for hours.  :-\

Post by: ZiggyDoodle on 2007 December 13, 02:40:46
For whatever it's worth, no dancing trees in my game.  All EPs plus the first Holiday pack and Glamour.  No other stuff crap as I swore off EAxis after BV.  I haven't patched my game since the first Pets patch disaster (and that patch was dumped).

Title: Re: The stupid trees are back!
Post by: Emma on 2007 December 13, 08:53:24
Ok this is weird. I decided to quit my game, clear groups.cache and reload. The trees are gone. I have checked in every lot that had them and they have just disappeared....thank goodness ;D

When I quit though, I exited the lot to neighbourhood then quit the game. The 'application crashed' sign came up. Something definitely screwy was going on but hopefully whatever it was has stopped now.

I got this bug with the maple trees again after Teen stuff, the only way I could get rid of them is by deleting every maple tree from every lot in the neighbourhood. That fixed it. Its very annoying since I like that tree.

I hope it gets fixed.

Title: Re: The stupid trees are back!

I believe that Teen Style Shit is simply a massively buggy pack, as when injected into a BV game, it will overwrite parts of BV's code with legacy code from Teen Shit, thus reintroducing bugs and errors.

It is not entirely clear how to resolve these issues, as they're endemic. Recommended course of action at this time is to deinstall it. I have limited capability to research the issues, as I don't have this pack!

I have not seen any issues since I installed BV and Teen style stuff... Although I am sure it is on the horizon. So I should install it? Dang.

Are we talking BFBVFS or just kind of messed up if I don't uninstall it?

Title: Re: The stupid trees are back!
Post by: dizzy on 2007 December 14, 02:01:52
Is everybody having the tree issue running TSS or BV? I know TSS has its own exe file, but you can still run the BV exe instead.

Title: Re: The stupid trees are back!
Post by: J. M. Pescado on 2007 December 14, 02:10:40
Yes, but I think that because TSS's objects are contained within its own packages, which host redundant information, that redundant and obsolete information maybe overwriting "good" BV info.

Title: Re: The stupid trees are back!
Post by: Ness on 2007 December 14, 02:12:40
I have BV.  I have TSS.  I have no tree problem.  I'm running from the BV exe file.

Don't recall patching either seasons or BV, but I could be wrong.

Running from BV exe. Patched.

Trees are gone in my game and I didn't do anything but clear groups.cache.

Title: Re: The stupid trees are back!
Post by: J. M. Pescado on 2007 December 14, 12:04:33
Ah, yes, Groups.cache is always a good source of evildoing.

I haven't had any tree problems (and I have all EPs and SPs install), but I've been afraid to place any maple trees ever since the problems originally occured, so I might not have any in my hood.  (I don't take Maxis' word for fixes.)

I just installed teen style and I have my first tree problem, but then I also had a crash (PC crash - not crash to desktop) which resulted in missing sims from newly installed occupied lots, a cat that thinks it's a sim (looks really bizarre trying to climb into bed), a female sim with a male voice and none of the Pets community lots in the lot bin!  The lot debugger has not helped; I think force error on everything actually helped convince the cat it was really a sim. I suspect my problems are self-inflicted because I didn't re-install base game starter after adding Pets.  I'm heading off to use Inge's brand new simPE and see what I can fix.  I've also deleted groups.cache and I'll report if that fixes the tree problem  Good thing it's a test hood!

Yup I had that happen to with one of my cats after a crash.  The crash borked my entire hood.  Luckily simpe was able to at least open the neighborhood file to extract everything.

I had to reinstall  BV and I had the tree problem again--  it said that everything was up to date but i tryed to install the Season's patch anyways and it accepted it and the trees were fixed.

With Inge's SimPE, I've cleaned up after the crash and deleted most of the sims that went missing.  I've nuked everything the lotdebugger finds as well including attraction markers and all the gossip in the entire 'hood.  I bulldozed the lot with the tree problem too.  I can see the trees on the 'hood screen, where the lot used to be but I can't select them to move or delete them.  I bowed to the inevitable and placed the new version of the lot somewhere else.  I have error logs about the cat if anyone wants them.

I haven't installed BV.  I'm running off the Seasons .exe patched.

The wandering trees are just a case of EAxian coders reading too much Tolkein. They aren't maples, they are Ents.

No way, Ents are bright. Maples are too stupid to get out of the street.

You think an Ent can outrun a car? Well, I mean, if you piss them off sufficiently, maybe, but still.

What if you install the stuffpack(s), and THEN install BV? I am generally in the habit of waiting to buy and install stuffpacks until an EP that I want comes out. I install the stuffpacks before the EP, due to the weird name-changing phenomenon that sometimes occurs with stuffpacks. Would such a procedure prevent TSS from buggering BV?

Title: Re: The stupid trees are back!
Post by: J. M. Pescado on 2007 December 19, 09:51:51
No. It doesn't matter what order you install them in, the problem is that Teen Shit pretends to be a higher bit than BV, and this apparently causes problems. You'd have to wait until the next Real EP comes out before it would be safe to install.

I had this problem in my game. The tree moved each time I exited lot to visit business, and it left after a few days. I don't have TSS though just BV. However I am completely unawesome so it's probably some sort of karma.

Do I just delete the group.cache file to clear it? Or do I have to do some strange doohikery in SimPE?

You just need to delete it.

Slightly OT: Why, exactly, is the BV patch a VBT? I assume it broke more than it fixed, like the first Pets patch, but I'd like to know exactly what it broke, so I can decide for myself if the benefits outweigh the risks.

BV Patch updated ScrewuROM. This was a bad thing. Those issues have since been ironed out by third-party fixes.

FWIW: It's not just maple trees.  ::) I just had a phantom birch tree spring up in the middle of the living room.

Deleting group.cache didn't help, either. Grrr

How many times do I have to tell you that I don't soup?  If you want rid of me, Ban me. Otherwise I'm just here, minding my own damn business, not even taking part in Moar Fight. Have you degenerated so far that someone can't even get game help here anymore?
