Title: Special object collections and BV
Post by: KLGFCG on 2007 September 16, 07:33:02
Well, I didn't break it but Eaxis broke it. As mentioned in one of the too-many-to-follow-all-of-them-BV-threads, collections of aspiration and career rewards no worky since BV. Is there a solution? I'd especially like the collection with the Celebration stuff wedding arch to work because big shocker, it didn't get updated with community lot availability for the new community weddings option and I hate having to changelotzoning just to place one freaking object.

Have you tried opening the collection from Build Mode instead of Buy Mode? Post-Pets, opening such  collections from Build Mode has been a necessity. The objects are often still greyed out, but will be placeable from Build Mode.

Unfortunately, that doesn't work in BV, although it worked fine with Seasons.

They nerfed that exploit in BV, yes. All the buyable whatzit collections are thus dead as a result. It is unlikely that they will change it back, so making any odd object buyable will require messy hacking.

Oh joyfuls. What would happen if one were to clone (using object workshop) a reward object, thus making a new object that can be tweaked with a categorizer to show up appropriately? And, if one were to do this, should the new object get new GUID(s) or just leave them alone so it effectively overwrites the original object? Or would even attempting this be asking for badness to rain down upon the land?

Check Peasantry for Dizzy's collection of hacks -- he has one that adds the ability to get the aspiration objects off the sim's debug menu.

Thanks for the tip.  I will definitely have to check that out.

Yep. EA finally got around to fixing that old old bug they've had since the base game. Alas, buyable fire, I knew thee well.  :'(

and in the process, further broke their ChangeLotZoning cheat. Or does it now spawn a trash can and mailbox/phone booth? You needed buyable collections in order to use the cheat that came with the game, after all..
