Chapter 1 is up. Please ignore the fuzzy photo quality. I forgot to reset my camera when I installed NL. Bummer.

Very cool, reggikko - since I am refraining from buying NL until there is a Uni patch and a greenlight from the great overlord JMP, it is really nice to see some NL content in stories. Yay for you.

Oh my! I never interacted with vampire, lol. I hate their guts...:).  My all sims' turn offs are "vampirism".

Nevertheless, cool story. I am curious if the baby will be human, or a vampire...:).

Did you change her job to Slacker?

Aquarius are very much attracted to Capricorn and vise versa. Make her some young mate, and cure the poor girl from the auful vampirism...:).

Waiting for the next chapter...:).

vampirism is viral not genetic, the baby will be born normal.

That was a fun diary. I must say I can relate to some things. It seems night since NL all my sims just seem to think the old farts are just totally hot hunks and sexy mommas  ::) I've resorted to giving most of my sims grey hair as a turn off now. ;)

Oh and microwaves, I remember when I first got the game, the prima guide said an advantage to the microwave is that it doesn't catch on fire so I bought it for one of my po' just starting out sims. Well, I learned the hard way that prima is full of it.  >:(

OT a minute - so mictowaves can catch fire? Haven't seen that. I always wonder how the hell any sim can burn food in a microwave. :/

Love your story start reggikko! You have a knack for casual and humorous narration that just flows. I loved the tossed salad pic, I was too slow on the pause button the first (and only so far) time I saw this happen. I've also failed to get a good angle on the actual vampire bite. Kudos to you.

No Slacker job for Fiona. She's a Knowledge Sim and is now a Mad Scientist (her LTW). In my very first Fiona incarnation she was married to a Capricorn. :) I also won't be curing her. That's one of her fears. But, wait until you see the gorgeous vampire replacement skin my talented son made. You'll change your mind! As for the hot guy...well, Travis can't live forever but Fiona can. She and Travis are so cute together, though. They're always swooning and doing the "hot" interaction.

Great Reg, as usual. My son bought me NL (I wasn't about to do it myself, but I'm also not giving it back :D), so my first destination was your lot file. Lovely, also as usual.

I agree with Gali to some point. The maxis vampire skin is... well, lets just say it can use much improvement. If your talented offspring can prouduce a good vampire skin, maybe you could be persuaded to share? (Hint? What hint?)

Way to go Reg, I can't wait for the next part of your story.

Here are two screenshots. The first is Fiona holding her son. He has her natural skin tone, so you can see the difference. The second is a close-up. The eyes are contact lenses I downloaded from Well Dressed Sim.

It is a nice skin, I have several pale skins I have been saving for vampires. Vampires should be pale. (So are my Geek family ;)). What I would like to know is how to make the pale ones default in the game instead of the blue ones.  :)

I'll try to get an answer later today when Dylan wakes up. I have no idea. He makes the stuff and then transfers it to my computer on our network. :D

Title: Re: My new Legacy
Post by: GloamingMerle on 2005 October 07, 18:55:15
Dylan here... to answer some questions.

How do I do it?: Pretty simple. I find the default game files using SimPE, extract them, create a brand new package file to throw the extracted stuff into, extract the images, edit them, import them, save.. It's pretty easy. If you don't change the filenames of the extracted files, it'll just effectively write over the defaults, while still being easy to get rid of.

Sharing: I've been going back and forth with this idea for a while, and finally decided that I would like to put my creations on the web. Kind of a scary notion if you're on the shy side like I am. I just don't know where I'll be putting them yet. I connect to the internet through my mom's computer, and the sucky firewall my Dad insists on (I use something else for my computer) won't allow me to publish a website from this computer. It's a no-prompt kind of firewall, taking matters into it's own hands without asking you what you want.  ::)  My firewall asks me what I want. Enough griping though.. I'll try to figure something out soon. I'm sure you'll hear my mom bursting with pride when I do.  ;)

Notes: My replacement allows them to keep their original eyecolor, or use contacts (apparently) if you so please. I also fixed the alpha channel issue with teen female vamps.

Well there's always the Exchange. *shudder*

If you package up a sim with a custom skintone in the bodyshop the skintone should be included in the sims2pack file. Not sure about the vamps though since you normally can't create them in the bodyshop. I haven't tried extracting an in-game vamp sim via sim surgery yet and seeing how they would show up in the bodyshop.

I suppose you could also just upload it as an attachment here, but I'm sure since it's a skintone the file is rather large.

No no no no! No exchange! You can't make me do it!... *composes self* ahem...

It's about 11,200 KB... It's not actually a skintone, it's a full body tattoo. Compare this to my alien default skintone replacement, which is about 90,800 KB.

I didn't think we were allowed to upload that kind of thing here? I mean... There are no specific rules against it, but it seems a little... presumptuous.

Ha. I just looked.. there's a 128KB cut-off point in the file attachment option.. Sorry guys.. I would have went for it too.. If I had gotten my lips ripped for it, at least it would have been for the greater good.  ;)

My parents are leaving in a while, so I'll try to see if I can (use my mom's computer to) get a website started and upload my default replacements.

Random suggestion for the eyes: if it's possible, perhaps make it a transparent red overlay? So you get a bit of a bloodshot look to the eyes, but doesn't replace any nice custom eyes we may have (I have all the maxis defaults replaced, for example) but does make them slightly vampiric. Give the alien eyes a red twinge, too, but they're still obviously aliens.

Beauuutiful!!!

This is the first time I see the stages of the  abduction in the game...:). My sims have never been abducted.

...And why Mom didn't turn her kids/teens to vampires? Has it to be their own decision?

I have a question: if my sims' turn off is "vampirism", and they go to downtown and meet a vampire  - can they be bited by him?
Because each time I spot a vampire in the lot - I order them all immediately to drive home...:). I am scared to death that someone will be bitten...:).
So far all went well and they are not bitten - I don't permit them to interact with the vamp...:).

Kids can't be turned into vampires. The teen girl is a Popularity Sim, so I don't think she would want to be a vampire. ;)

The vampire will only bite controllable Sims who become friends/best friends. If your Sims don't interact with him/her, I don't think they would be bitten, but I suppose there is a slight chance. It's easily fixable, though. You just buy the cure from the gypsy and your Sim instanly returns to normal.

Actually, you can buy the cure ahead of time and keep it inthe Sims' inventory, just in case. ;)

I know the mesh is by Shannara and I think I originally got it off MTS2. I just searched there and couldn't find it, but it's been quite some time since I downloaded it. There is a modified version, with bangs, on TSR. It seems like Shannara is posting her stuff somewhere, but for the life of me I can't remember where. If I do think of it, I'll let you know.

That was my first rat, Mishka. I just lost her sister this past Thursday so I thought I'd put a little tribute up. Unfortunately, I don't have a really good picture of Kiko. Rats are tough to photograph. They are much too busy to hold still for 5 seconds! And I agree, they are the most awesome pets. :)

It's funny you should say that. My son and I have always said that Pascal is Will Wright's alter-ego in the game. I don't think it's coincidental that Pascal starts the game with maxed Creativity.  ;)

Thanks for the compliment! You'll see more of Pascal....and maybe the other Curious brothers, as well. Glad you liked the stories.
