Title: FYI: Message times and local time
Post by: jsalemi on 2006 October 05, 23:16:38
Hear ye, hear ye!

Just wanted to let y'all know that you may have to go into your profile and reset your time offset.  Apparently the original ofsets were saved, which throws what the board thinks is your local time off by about 11 hours.  You can find the setting in the 'Look and Layout Preferences' area -- just hitting 'auto detect' should resync your local time with the server time.

And welcome back, everyone!

If you're running ZoneAlarm Pro, you also need to change your settings by deleting the old MATY.net line from its program control.

Or you'll be tossed in a log-in loop.

wooo!  2 hours difference instead of the old 17...

Can't say I'm noticing any of this slowness that others have mentioned...  if anything, it seems faster and more responsive to me.

MATY's pretty slow for me but at least it's back up.  I've noticed that the position of the newsbox isn't on the right in Opera although it is correct in the other browsers.

EDIT: Attached a pic of the problem.

I guess the pipes between Malaysia and Australia are shorter and less prone to being clogged by goombas, then.

Yea, it's harder to push all those bytes through all that water between there and the US. :)

I noticed the time issue this morning but 'auto detect' didn't work for me but I did get it sorted out by changing it -12

I'm so used to being in the wrong time zone compared to the rest of the world that I never take any notice of the hour posted.  I usually just compare time between posts.

I'm not having that problem.

It's on the right in my Opera (9.02).

I've never checked that before, it wasn't something important to me :D. I tried that auto-detect thing, but forum time is still 12 hours ahead of mine. It's 23:04 (11pm) in the forum and 11:00 am here. Some of my clocks here are set 6 hours ahead at all times anyway, so I guess it never bothered me to to a quick-add for any time-zone. (Germany is 6 hours ahead of the Eastern US Seaboard, is why some of my clocks are set ahead)

But thanks Joe. After all, a whole 12 hours can be crucial in figuring whether it's necromancy or not yet necromancy :D

Ditto here - for MATY anyway. I did try to set it to my timezone when I registered, but for whatever reason it didn't work properly and it just left me confused so I set it back to the way it was. I'd lurked for so long I was used to the way it was anyway. ^_^
