Title: Owned community coffee bar, sims don't pay!
Post by: Lion on 2006 June 12, 14:59:22
I searched the podium, and there was one thread back in mid March concerning the same problem, i.e., customers are not paying when they buy coffee from the coffee bar manned by the owner or an employee. But not many responses. One response says customers are paying. But in my game, in owned community coffee shop, customers as well as the shop owner are obsessed with the coffee bar, which is fine, but they never pay, only the shop owner pays. I did put in ticket machine to charge, but I like to make money for the coffee and do away with the ticket machine.  I remembered residential barista hack for Uni, which may be the problem interfering with OFB, but I didn't find it in my download hacks folder. I'll appreciate if anyone remember the file name so I can look again for it. Or is it just a collection?

So do you have a problem with the coffee bar at a business?

Wow, so customers do actually buy espresso. I have an employee or my Sim assigned to the espresso bar but Sims just stand around and talk without even looking at it. Works fine on unowned lots, sims flock to it. And when I have an employee assigned my Sim is the only one who won't leave it alone. The regular bar works fine.

Another of those screw-ups which are referred to as "features"?

I had the same prob in my restaurant with both bar and coffee machine.  I pay Kent Capp too many $ an hour just to stand there  ???

Maybe it needs to be moved to another part of the lot?  Why not just charge the customers an arm and a leg to come into the place, and give them free espressos?  (Then find a way of charging them to use the bathroom!)

I think I've figured this one out as well while looking at Dr. Beast's problem with sims meeting themselves while working as a barista.

If I'm reading the code right it appears that only playable sims will actually pay for the coffee.

Those thieving townies are at it again! ;D  ZZ pats TJ on the back and cries "Well done, sir!  Simland is proud of you!"

Well, I need a workaround too, I just don't hire baristas for owned lots any more, or use coffee counters or bars in them. It sucks. How can I make a bar? I'm willing to give espresso for free if I just can get some sims to drink it! My problem is that no sims use the coffee bars, for buying or for free. None at all. They're just used if I take a sim downtown and order coffee. It's pretty stupid.

I've read about that problem as well and I'm going to try to fix that at the same time if I can. It's going to take some testing to try to figure out unless I get lucky and find something in the code.

That would be so awesome of you.

Right now there's really no point to opening a coffee shop. I tried to make one and ended up turning it into a ticketron video arcade that sells clothing. ::)

Well I've been able to duplicate the espresso stand not being used problem, and I know why...now I've just got to figure out the cause of the borked attribute so I can fix it.

In case it could help.  I tried the "cafe petite" lot that came with the game.  I added an expresso cart on it.

If I assign an employee to the expresso cart only, no money was generated when sims purchase coffee.

If I assign an employee to the be a bartender at the same time then money started to generate eventhough no sims purchase any drinks, only coffee.  ???

If I left only the bartender assign, money was still generated eventhough no sims purchase drinks.

weird all this...

That's an actual bug -- the bartender gets the 16 simolean an hour wage that your sim would get working as a bartender on, say, a uni lot.  And since the bartender is on your business, you actually get it. So if you pay the bartender 15 an hour, you make a buck on the deal. :)

This applies eventhough I assign an employee to be the bartender?  I did saw 16$ float in the air but it was like 3 or 4 times per hour depending on how many sims were drinking coffe on the lot.

Yes, even if  you assign an employee to be bartender. I first saw it at Club Dante, and then saw a discussion here about it being a bug.  The reason you see multiples is probably because both the bartender and the owner get the '+16' thing.

Yea, Maxis royally boned the code for both the espresso stand and the bar when used in a business. It's going to take me a little longer than I thought to unravel this and make sure it's working properly, but I'm on it.  8)

It's like when a friend visits and you get him to act as your sim's personal trainer, your sim gets the money!

Sorry to revive this old topic, but I'm having the same situation.  I've opened a coffee shop that's basically.... a hangout spot.  No one ever, EVER buys coffee.

Is there any luck that this issue has been fixed?  Maybe by Maxis (ha!) or more likely, TwoJeffs?

*looks hopeful*
