Title: Lost code for tattoos?
Post by: liegenschonheit on 2006 May 15, 02:24:50
I've noticed in simPE that under turn ons/ turn offs, there is a checkbox for tattoos. Maybe this is a stupid question, but does that mean that Maxis planned for there to be tattoos in the game? If so, is there any possible way to add tattoos to a sim, kind of like makeup or the vamp overlay, without using a whole custom skintone?

Just wondering.

I think the tattoos were going to come with Nightlife. But just like everything else, the didn't finish them.  ::)

I was wondering that myself, and I thought perhaps it was related to the Sims 1 thing that had tattoos - Urbz?

IIRC Maxis themselves described the vampire overlay as a "full body tattoo," so I've often wondered if it was possible to use that somehow to make real tattoos. Being clueless myself though I certainly won't be the one to do it :P

Wait, I thought that there were certain tanktops for uni that include tattoos?

Yes, but those tats are part of the clothing mesh. Currently, there are two kinds of tattoos you can have/make:
Tattoos that are part of a custom skintone and never come off
Tattoos that are part of the clothing and come off when the sim changes clothes

The problem with the second one is pretty obvious, I think, and the problem with the first one is that tats shouldn't be genetic. I also wondered if there isnt a way to export the vamp skin and use it to make permanent, non-genetic tattoos. Though, the whole thing could just be a pipe dream till maxis gets off their collective asses and finishes what it started :P

Could you export it and make it appear as an assecory? I know some site has finger nail polish that appears in the glasses catagory, couldn't tattoos appear there too?

The fingernail polish that I've seen have been actual long fingernail meshes. I tried (unsuccessfully) to figure out a way to do something like what you're suggesting, but according to people with far more knowledge than I, it isn't possible without a new mesh.

If you remember the surveys before OFB, tattoos were one of their ideas, but it just didn't make it into the final. Porabably just didn't get finished in time, like the rest of the EP ::)

Yes, I remember that survey for a tattoo parlour (god how I hate that word) but stupid Maxis never put it in.  I'm pretty bitter about it actually - I wanted to ink all my Simmies up!
