Title: What is the Skintone Range in Sim DNA?
Post by: Jysudo on 2006 May 12, 04:20:06
I saw a 'skintone range" when I am trying to change the skintone of my sims in SimPE. What is that?
Thanks.

In the Enhanser I saw this:

Light skin
Tan skin
Medium skin
Dark skin
Alien skin -

and then added all the custom skins you downloaded.

Gali, he is asking about SimPE, not the Enhancer.  You don't even use SimPE.  :D

Jysudo, the Skintone range comes from the parents' genetics.  If you have an S1 mother and an S4 father, the children will have a range of S1-S4.  It is possible for the children to have any skin tone.  However, if the parents skintones are closer together, say S1 and S3, then the children can have any skintone from S1-S3.  When they reproduce, however, they will only pass on to their children the skintone they express.

I see. Thanks Rainbow. What happens if I let the skintone range be a custom one?
Does it mean that the child will always pass on that custom skintone as a domaint feature?

Thanks for the clarification.  I think I am confused over the skintone and skintone range in SimPE hence this question.

Custom skintones are handled differently.  I believe custom skins carry a 50% chance of being inherited by the child.  Custom skins are heavily dominant over the regular skintones.  For more information, check out this thread at MTS2:
The mysteries of Sim DNA unraveled (http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=19921)

It's long, but there's a lot of good info.  And it starts back in November so some of the information about SimPE has changed since then, but this is where it started.  Maxoid Tom even popped in for a bit and gave us some inside information.   This is where a lot of the information in the Correcting the DNA of Strangetown premade characters (http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php?topic=1423.0) thread in the Peasantry came from.

Jysudo, check out this thread as well: http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php?topic=2966.0
Read on a bit and you'll find some very interesting info.

Why? I use SimPe too...:). The range at the Enhanser is arranged as in the SimPe, only without the Hexa numbers. And to change the DNA there is much more easier that to change it with the SimPe (OK, JMP, I'll pay another penalty charge  ;) ).

I thought you didn't use SimPE because it was "too confusing?"  I use SimPE because it's free, and it's really not that difficult to me.  Then again, I enjoy doing stuff like that.

But if you want me to use the Enhancer, I will be happy to take donations.  :)
