Title: Hides in a corner
Post by: MissDoh on 2006 February 16, 07:59:56
Forget about my other post... I found the problem... by mistake I made a copy of the downloads folder in my N004 back-up folder.

Gee I felt so stupid I deleted my other post....

Though the rest of it was still interesting to know.

Seems like the detection of the specs of our computer has been fixed.  I can now have 8 guests to parties and on community lots without having to type the "intprop" cheat.  And by looking at my "config-log.txt" files, it does confirm in there that I can have 8 guests again.  This is the way it is since I install the 2nd Nightlife patch.

EDIT:  Before the second patch I was only able to have 2 guests eventhough with University I was able to have 8.

See now most folks didn't see your other post. I did, but I don't understand such things anyway so no harm done. I'm just thrilled to be able to have more guests at parties. Glad you discovered that.

MissDoh, it's no good hiding in a corner.  We'll all find you eventually, then point and laugh.   I can see why your name suits you though  ;D

Never mind, Missdoh - I lost a Downloads folder - it had somehow found its way into the Config folder!  Luckily I hadn't loaded my game - just couldn't find a subfolder to check in CleanInstaller and wondered what the heck was going on!

I didn't see the original post, but I have a tendency to click a little too fast at times, particularly when tired so I've done stuff like that... more than once.

hey, where did all my hacks go? oh, I threw them into Lot Catalog, or something equally useless.
Hey, since when did Logs have subfolders? (oh, so that's where my 3 'test' folders went)

Yet another reason window mode is so much easier...

Well, at least you can then run a search to find them!  But on my machine, I have to search from My Documents!  If I actually run the Search program from the Search shortcut, Windows Explorer decides it has to close!  (Same applies if I try from My Computer!)

That is the same as me Zeph-it is because our computers hate us :D

Well, according to Microsoft it's a known issue!  So if it's a known issue, why don't they do something about it?  (I suppose because it has nothing to do with Security!)

I actually found out where that downloads folder was by opening the "customcontent.txt" that can be found in the logs folder.

It gave me the path of that hiding downloads folder.

Amazing - it knew it was there, but presumably wouldn't load it into your game!

Interesting-I can now have 4 apparently by looking at the config-log :D

Well, without the patch I can usually have 4 (unless there's a visitor or NPC around, either on the lot or in a portal).  I always find it helps, too, to invite the guests before everyone gets home!

But yes, when I just had Uni, I could have 8.

Before NL I could have 8, but when NL installed I could only have 2 >:( I still will intprop the usual number of guests though. What gets me is I have absolutely no slowdown with 8 guests. I only start getting slowdown if there are more than 25 sims on the lot-and even that isn't too bad. Playable. I had the Doc Doofus hack in and I had families of about 10-15 all living together, and still had parties with about 10 guests.

Either your specs are far superior to mine, or you don't have so many downloads!

This computer is a dinosaur-upgraded to within an inch of its life! My downloads all together are 1.91GB. Dunno if that is good or bad.

Downloads sounds about the same.  I find if I play a large lot on first starting up the game, it's not too bad, but if I switch to it after playing for a bit, it gets very jerky!  Especially if I have to switch levels a lot!

The only lot I ever have trouble with is the 'Sims Gone Wired' in downtown. It takes a while to switch to the top level-dunno why!

Emma, same here, some of the downtown lots with 2 floors seems to take more time to switch from level 1 to level 2.

Yesterday (I must say it was late), after I deleted my Sims 2 folder and place back my back-up, I was so confused on why the pop-up would ask me if I wanted to enable cc stuff since I did not place back the downloads folder back-in yet.   I had to found out what was going on... Result I went to bed at 3 am..... and I am at work now with my eyes half close lol.

Now tonight I will check that back-up to make sure there is no other weird folder hiding in it, delete the Sims 2 folder again and then place back that N004 hood back-up again and finally the downloads folder back in place too.

I have no idea if the hacks were actually working or not, I panic when I saw the cc pop-up and quit my game right away.  I was really surprise it detected it but cannot tell if they were really activated or not.  Honestly I won't try to know lol.

Inge feel free to point and laugh at me, I deserve it ;)  But with that mistake I did learn a few new things I did not before  :D

Since the log file for the cc content is presumably unaffected by the patch, the game wouldn't know the stuff was missing - which, since you replaced the downloads folder before loading the game, it, in fact, wasn't.

I had a back-up of that file custom content file which was empty that I place back in during my search for truth.

I started the game without my back-up and the pop-up for custom content did not show up.

I added my N004 hood back-up which was containing the downloads folder and upon starting the game it did ask me if I wanted to enable the cc.

I look at the cc txt file before I place my bakc-up and there was nothing writen in it (that was after I quitted the game after I replace the cc file but before I place the back-up of N004), after I place the N004 and quit the game, the path of the N004 downloads showed in that cc txt file.

So yes the game did detect it.

Hey no prob. Zephyr.  I have a hard time understanding myself post too sometimes ;D

Well, your English is a lot better than my French these days (even though it was my Main subject at college) and it was probably because I didn't take the time to read it properly!

I did not remember you speak French  :)  Always good to know that if I am in need of a good translation you might be able to help me.  I always keep my French/English dictionary handy though for emergency.

Now my games is back to normal... fiou.... I did not want to have to reinstall everything because of a stupid mistake!  Doh!

Zephyr can we ever expect a SimZephyrZodiac to add in our MATY hood?  I would love to add you in my game  :D I take good care of my Sims.

In case you wonder what I am taking about, you should take a peek at the "peasantry" section and then in the "made-up animals" one.  Really cool and nice strories there.  ;D

Main problem is I can't seem to use Bodyshop.  I could make one in CAS, though.  (Actually, ZephyrZodiac already exists in sims1, along with Zuleika, Zillah and Zoe and their husbands Zak, Zeb, (and two more whose names I can't remember!)

Or you could, as other did, place that Sim on an empty lot in a freshly made hood so that Sim would not have met anyone.

Think about it, I am sure a lot of us would download yourself Sim.

Any plan on doing your own MATY hood too?  If so, I would definitley love to read your story about all those Sims adventures!

I've got about 6 different projects underway at present, so you'll have to bear with me a while.

I can certainly make a sim and a house for upload, but I am a complete klutz about uploading stuff to MATY!  However, I could probably put it on my Yahoo site.
