Of course, I paid my subscription fees, didn't you?  You might end up banninated with a Subscription Expired sign if you're not careful!

Yes, we'll definately have to review the subscription records about that. Can't have people traispsing around the forums with expired subscriptions ya'know.

I'd suggest you stop discussing this before your account gets suspended.

Plastic shine, I do hope your post wasn't intended to be incitement to other people to try and get round paying the subs?  If you have found a loophole, your conscience should direct you to tell Pescado so he can fix it - not blurt it out to every Tom, Dick and Harry who might try to do the same.

I paid mine a year in advance.  I like to be prepared, although I am now kicking myself for the fact I couldn't take advantage of the one sub for the price of two offer Grrrr

My Mom owed me a ton of money, and I got it back. I keep the money I got back in a hidden place, and my wallet money on my desk

And now she owes me over $200. I'll be good for a long time because she keeps taking and giving money.

GALI!!!  LOL.

And I paid a year in advance too.  I'm still waiting for the lifetime membership deal where you pay for however many years JM thinks you'll live.  If it goes beyond that, he gets your picture in an envelope in the mail.

I once paid for a lifetime membership on a site (not related to sims), and afterwards read the fine print only to find out that my lifetime membership is only good for 5 years!  That's around 3 years ago now, so in about two years I'm expecting to have them on my doorstep.  :'(

I'm going to have to send Gali my laundry bill if she keeps going on like that ;)

I also think I missed my senior discount so now JM owes me. Guess I'll get some extra time or something.

5 years? That's an awfully short life. Do you have trouble relating to the rest of us eternals who move so slow?

I also think the original poster seems a bit confused.

Title: Re: So has anyone actually ever paid the 40 bucks to join?
Post by: Nick on 2006 January 22, 15:34:32
I think its just easier to do it the old fashioned way

I always send JM checks in the mail, and he renews my subscription. I actully paid until June, and then, I am gonna pay for the rest of the year

So, I am now only gonna pay twice in a year

One in January until June, then June til January

I'd be surprised if anyone can mail El Presidente checks, much less boxes or (my god, what could be in them) buckets. It's my understanding that his address is one of the secrets of state stored in the government warehouse, probably guarded by the modern version of Cerebrus as well as the Men in Black, alongside the Ark of the Covenent and the Holy Grail and the Proof that Aliens Exist.

Angelyne, you read the wrong description :) - you should search for  HUMOR, not for IRONY.

Irony, Satire,  and S arcasm contain a Critic Point of View on the subject. Saying - "doh, I am clever", contains a critic point of view on myself, i.e. "I am dumb".

Humor doesn't contain any criticism   - it's mutilated description of a situation. Stand-up artists describe their experiences in a humoristic way. They don't intend to critisize anybody, just to laugh at it.
The anecdotes are good example of humor.

So, this thread is a humoristic one - not ironic or sarcastic. We laugh at the "fee issue", we don't critisize it...:).

There is a difference among the various kinds of Stand-up comedians; some of them use Irony, Sarcasm, and Satire. As people can't "live" with humor alone - many stand-uppists use the above attitude (i.e. the critic point of veiw - irony, sarcasm, and satire). They think it's more sophisticated...:).

The Humorous kind is just like in the movie "Punch Line" (Sally Field). That's the "pure" humoristic attitude, and I point to them.

So, you have to recognize the different kinds of the Stand-Up commediants.

...Comprende?...:)

I think humour depends a lot on the language, racial background etc. of the humorist.  French humour is very different from English, which is different from Welsh, Scots or Irish, and is again very different from American.

I loved Punchline. Great flick. Tom Hanks is one of my favorite actors.

I think "irony" is hugely misunderstood. Drives me nuts. Remember that song "Isn't it Ironic" by Alannis Morissette? The word is used improperly throughout the entire damn song. I can barely listen to it.

Too true Brynne. If she had called the song "Isn't It Typical", then that would have been closer!

But it no doubt fitted the tune!  And you have to bear in mind that Alanis' first language isn't English, and the term "ironique! in French has a slightly different meaning and usage than in English.

Well according to my albeit small research today, irony means saying one thing and meaning the opposite.  If you go back to the poor original poster, who has since changed his post and then fled the forum (who could blame him), he/she was asking if anyone paid the 40 dollars.  Everyone jumped in and acted horrified and implied that had circumvented the system.  So, since everyone was saying one thing, but meaning another, while the original poster was initially unaware of the truth, that sounds like a classic case of irony to me.  Could it even fit the classic description of dramatic irony?

That's my understanding of it anyway.  But then I'm french .. canadian... so no poking fun of Celine Dion !  just kidding :)

"Could it even fit the classic description of dramatic irony?" [angelyne]

An example of Dramatic Irony:  "Ah poor Yorik, I knew him"
(Hamlet, holding Yorik's skull).

No humor here, but a great deal of Irony, because Hamlet hardly knew Yorik, which wasn't one of his noble class.

IRONY: You prepare a scathing letter of resignation, and upon placing it in your boss' box at work, find a pink slip in your own.

SARCASM: Your reply to your boss says, "Thank you. I love you, too."

---

I don't pay my subscription fee. I simply PM-ed my PayPal username and password to Pescado to do with as he wishes.

[edit] For non-Americans, I should point out that a pink slip is a notice of being fired or laid off (sacked).
