Title: How do I get rid of a corrupt sim in CAS or Bodyshop?
Post by: Metalkatt on 2005 December 18, 20:35:54
I've discovered that I have a corrupted premade sim in one of my CAS sections... CAS crashes when trying to load the thumbnails, but Bodyshop doesn't crash until I click on the sim.  I can't mouse-over the sim in BS to get the name of the file, and CAS won't load even the thumbs so I can do it.  Would anyone know how I'd go about getting rid of that stupid sim?  Thanks in advance for any advice, and feel free to laugh at me.  I work in customer service; I've heard it all before.

The long way:
move your sims (which I hope you have in Saved Sims) to your desktop.
Place a few of the sims at a time back into the saved sims folder.
Load bodyshop, test sims...
eventually you will find the (hopefully small) batch of sims with the bad one in it.
Test that batch one by one.
delete bad sim...

If your sims are in both saved sims and downloads you might use Cleam Installer to sort your files.  Clean installer flags some sims as "People" or "Character" and others as, well, nothing.  So all files that are a string of 16 alpha-numeric with a blank type is a sim.  (names usually look like 6a180059-52c7145b.package).

Good luck.

*rubs temples*  Oh, dear.  You've given me a big help with that last bit, since I don't have any sims stored in the SavedSims folder.  It's probably good that I can't really play the game--only have 512 RAM, and XP is a memory hog.  *goes Sim-hunting*

Thanks for that info, dewshine.  I wondered what the heck those things were in CI.

SimPE's Scan Folders will actually tell you which files are sims. It takes a loooong time to scan using SimPE if you have a lot of files, so I suggest narrowing things down to those blank or unknown files using Clean Installer, and then using SimPE to make sure only actual sim files are left.

Oh, that's good to know.  I haven't dealt with SimPE too much because I have a bit of a problem with numbers, and all the values are set as numbers.  Thank you.

Well, Scan Folders has no numbers anywhere, so you are safe. :)

So I'm seeing.  What criteria do I search under?  I don't see a "sims" option...  (Apologies for being such a dunce.)

Open SimPE and select "Scan Folders" from the Tools menu.

Select a folder to scan, then let the scan complete. To select the right folder (unless all your stuff is in the Downloads folder) it's best to browse for it -- just choose the "..." from the drop-down menu. If you use subfolders, then you need to enable the scanner to look in them. You do that by opening "Scan Folders" and selecting the "Scanner Settings" tab that's in the bottom-left corner. There is a small tick-box that says "Recursive" and that's what you need to check.

Once the scan finishes, there are several columns called Filename, Enabled, Type, Caption, etc. Type is the one that will tell you what the file is. If it's a sim it will say "Sim" in there.

Ahh, thank you!  Pictures work magic in this sort of case.  *watches Red Green and waits for Simpe to scan*

Thank you to both of you, SaraMK and dewshine.  I was finally able to track down the darn thing and get it removed.  Thanks again for your help.
