Title: Accidental-on-Purpose Deaths (Mod Request)
Post by: Ancient Sim on 2005 November 19, 21:36:19
In the absence of a much-needed expansion pack that allows for unexpected accidents/deaths and so on (especially nannies getting run over by school buses) I would like to request a mod.  As things stand now, the only way to have someone burnt to death in a fire, for instance, is to remove the fire alarms.  If we leave them there, the chances are they won't be burnt to death.  This, for me anyway, takes away all the suspense.  I'd like to see a mod that caused fire alarms to run out of battery power occasionally (i.e., not work) and fire engines get stuck at traffic lights (i.e., not turn-up or arrive too late) and other related occurrences (such as an instantly-fatal 'flu bug, that sort of thing).  Not all the time, just at random.  This would add a nice "Ooh" factor to my game and probably other people's, too.

That's a nice idea! It would be even nicer if it could be rigged so that sims could leave an inheritance even if they died by accident, as opposed to old age.

I totally agree. This would take some of that plastic logic out of the game.

Something that made their disease death happen faster (and more unpredictably) would be alright as well, don't you think? I hear they have to be sick for fourteen days before they will die (the reliability of this is questionable) but the longest illness I have seen lasted less than one day and I was trying to prolong it to get them to die.

I know this sound morbid, but I would love to have a Sim die of sickness. It says in the Prima guide that it is 10 days. Is it really 14? I tried to have Komei Tellerman die from the flu and kept him on his feet for as long as possible, but suddenly on only the 2nd or 3rd day of illness I got the message "Komei is well again!" even while he's hacking away.

I have had a Sim die very unexpectedly (and I didn't have a fire alarm installed) when the teen autonomously decided to make Crepes Suzette with only *one* cooking skill point. Both he and his father caught on fire, and the mom saved him, but not his father.

I personally think the easiest way is simply to not install fire alarms. ;) Last night I was playing in my "retirement" home and they had thrown a party, and someone lit the fireplace, and suddenly a fire started. (There was a fire alarm in the kitchen but not the main living room.) So, one of my elder Sims caught fire, his needs plummeted, and he almost died before the fire got put out. His aspiration went in the red, and the Sim Shrink came.  But then moments later, despite the fire, the party was a "success" and suddenly his Aspiration went back to green. Here he was almost dead, and he was cheered up by having a "Good Time."  ;) It really cracked me up.

I had a Sim die under the wedding arch as a result of 'flu, even though she was fine at the start of the wedding party.  There were about 18 guests and at least half of them had the 'flu - probably more like two-thirds.  She never sat down, just went from guest to guest via the Socialiser and probably caught the 'flu several times over.  She died literally as soon as she'd taken her vows.  Unfortunately, her groom had no option to plead with the Reaper because he was already on his way to the limo and preferred going on honeymoon alone rather than trying to save his new bride.  Other than that, I agree that 10 days is far too long, it makes no sense.

a bit off-topic, but I think the dma hitmen are great. (I just discovered them :)

DMA-hitmen?  I am subscribed to that site, I probably have an email about it.  I must rush there pronto.  Sounds wonderful.

OK, I've been ... $50,000 to hire a hitman?  Gonna have to be my richest Sims use that service, then!  I also like the idea of being able to call the cops when there's a fight and have the Sim who started it arrested.  Definitely going to try that one out.  Do these hitmen use guns or what?  Going to have to go back to Pleasantview to find out, none of my Sims in my new neighbourhood are anywhere near rich enough yet.

50k seems reasonable to me. a good hitman costs ;)

I dunno about how they do it. I haven't tried them yet either. They sound (and look) kinda sneaky. I just the idea is... <long pause> ...cute

<waits cuz someone is sure to call me on calling hitmen cute, but I just do>

I'm probably going to end up breaking all my personal rules and getting a subscription to that site. I dunno that there's near enough to be worth it (hope they make tons more), but I really like the NPCs... well, and... I want more of the guys ;)

This is extremely off topic but funny as hell. I started playing the org hoods again and this is what john burb decided to do to his family on the first night in their new home. HE FARTED ON THE DINNER TABLE. I almost spit out my coke laughing.

I would definitely buy such an expansion pack. Of course then I'd also feel compelled to bring them all back as zombies.  ;D

lol i have only played zombies a few times but if they can't have kids they have no purpose.

They have their own appeal heh. You can have them have kids and them zombify them. They can be the adult that takes care of the kids, sort of like elders except they don't die on you. If you have your zombie meet their ltw you can kind of just play them at a leisurely pace without having to worry about wants, keeping them in platinum or dying and having to get things done before they do. I know vamps don't have to worry about dying either but they are severly limited by the whole daylight thing.

Now I wouldn't want to play every sim like this, it's kind of like TS1 and gets boring fast. But I don't mind having a couple like this. It's not so bad to have an extra adult in the house so as to not have to call the nanny but also not have to worry about playing them so much.

I have to take this opportunity to again beg someone to increase the mortality rate from flu so that I can start off a lethal epidemic and cull the herd a bit in my rapidly-spiraling-out-of-control neighborhood without having to actually pick who to kill. I've been whining about this for ages but no one else seemed interested thus far. Now I have new hope.

Where is JM on this thread? Doesn't he love to torture and kill sims? lol

Just today, Don farted on the table while he was eating with Nina. She swooned. It was funnier than words can express.

Also, Sagana, yeah, the hitmen-for-your-sims idea IS cute. You could really get a mob family going with that mess!
