Title: Want Text Alterations
Post by: Menaceman on 2008 September 04, 12:17:44
How would I go about altering the text that appears when you hover over a want in the wants panel? I thought it would be as simple as locating the text, extracting it and then creating a new package with the extracted file and then altering the text before committing. I'm asking cos the "Tell an inside joke to 'sim name'" text is missing the 'to' in English UK installations.
I've already made a replacement file but it doesn't seem to have any effect in game.

I assumed that this was simply because more text would not fit in the want block. A smaller font would be irritating.

Simply edit the text files in the wants.package?

I have thought about doing that, but it's nonsensical to me.  Have you ever seen what's in there?! :o  I didn't even know some of those symbols existed!

It's probably not something someone with little to no skill with computers (read: me) should do, but I wanted to try anyway.  Oh, well.  I'll live.

Make a backup and try it.  How else are you going to learn?

Looking at the text string it should show up correctly for american installations. The word 'to' was actually missing from the text string in the UK but is present in the US. I thought adding it back to the UK should work but it didn't seem to.
I may have another go at locating it.
If anybody else is bothered about having a look then don't go looking for an "InsideJoke" string. For some Eaxian reason its known in the files as "InsideJob".
