Title: Quick way of changing file names?
Post by: Nepheris on 2008 August 14, 10:11:07
Quick question:

I know that in order to safely get a new hood with lots included into other people's games, you need to rename the neighbourhood to N573 (or another random ridiculously high number), to avoid conflicts.

I'm assuming all files in that folder need to be changed to reflect the new neighbourhood number too. Is there a quick way to do this as opposed to slogging through all the files manually?

Thanks in advance, oh fount of wisdom :)

Ant renamer? I've never used it myself, but someone mentioned using it the other day to rename all their neigborhood files.

I've used several mass renamer app, and this one (http://www.publicspace.net/windows/BetterFileRename/index.html) is the best for me. Very user friendly yet capable for rather complicate changes.

I've used File Renamer - I found it with a quick Google when I wanted to put back in a saved custom neighbourhood which was N004 to my present N004 custom neighbourhood.  I had it installed in minutes and my neighbourhood renamed in under 5 minutes.  Works just fine and it's freeware.  What more do you want?

BTW, you don't need to use a ridiculously high number, just a number not used by any of the other hoods in your game.  In the above case, I just renamed to N006.

Cheers guys, that's exactly what I was looking for.

And maxon, the point is to actually upload stuff so other people can have it in their game too, and they might have more neighbourhoods than me :)

I know you've already found the way, but there's Bulk Rename Utility (http://www.bulkrenameutility.co.uk). Just to mention.
