Sims will be able to fill their enthusiasm bar easier when engaged in their One True Hobby (or Predestined Hobby). That's it. THE HOBBY LOT - The Hobby Maven is the only sim allowed to instruct another sim beyond 7 points. And (s)he can only do this while at the hobby lot. The gain rate for this is not as good as if the pupil just stayed at home and read the newspaper section, read the hobby mag, or blogged. - Sims wanting to win hobby related competitions will need to go to the hobby lot to do so. - The hobby lots contain some career rewards and large objects that perhaps are otherwise unavailable to your sim at home. ------------------------------------------------------ TIME TO GAIN A POINT - using long running activities. There's a table that stores how many ticks it takes to gain 1% of a point (at base rate of 100), depending on what level your sim is currently at. There are 30 ticks to a sim minute. There are 2 thresholds of 5 and 8 points that have to be reached before skill and interest bonus is applied. The lower threshold gives a small bonus, the higher one a greater bonus. 5points 8points Interest 1/5 1/3 Skill 1/4 1/2 OTH bonus 1/2 Eg. A Sim has 7 enthusiasm points (Ticks/1% = 230) and is reading the HobbyMag(BR 200) for their OTH. 230 * 100 / 200 = 115 Interval between increases is 115/30 sim minutes. One of the relevant interests is 9 so qualifies for the high bonus 1/3 and their relevant skill of 7 qualifies for the low bonus 1/4 OTH gets an additional 1/2 1 + (1/3 + 1/4 + 1/2) = 25/12 added each cycle. So to gain the whole point, they would reach level 7 within 115/30 * (100 / (25/12) ) = 184 mins 1000*Ticks/(3*BR(1+IB+SB+OTH)) Sim traits and IQ have no bearing on enthusiasm gain. OTHER SIDE EFFECTS OF ENTHUSIASM GAIN/LOSS. - All relevant interests will be increased/decreased. (with random loss from non related interests - see Sims interests) - Nearby sims (within 10 tiles) will also gain enthusiasm in the hobby. Only sims under 5 points can receive enthusiasm this way. A max of 80% of one point can be gained this way, the last 20% of the point must be gained by the sim itself. I think the wrong info originated from the Prima Guide. This is the only time traits have any direct relationship with enthusiasm. The interests for all newborn sims are very similar (see Sims interests). -------------------------------------------------------------------- SIM INTERESTS FT messes with interests when increasing enthusiasm. pre-FT info from a post at MATY. It still works the same up to AL, except that enthusiasm can screw it up. The max absorsion of interests seems to be around 10k for all ages. For this reason I have my sims do all their interest building as children, then delete the books. The 'Child to Teen' stage gives the largest boost, and it is best if you have the interest of the topics that get a bonus of 400 showing no more that 5 bars (5 bars could be a value from 500 to 599). In practice, my teen sims show about 135 interest bars after aging. Babies/Toddlers/Children < Politics < Money < Environment < Crime ? Each takes 4 parameters. No bonus / No absorption by other sims / Does change interests. Chance cards use this when they tell you if you have lost/gained a point. Apparently your FilmLit sims should read to sleep. 15% of one point would take a long time to gain using the other methods when at the higher levels. Not tried this yet in game. 0x0617 Enthusasm - Boost (Ticks) This is a one-shot call, and adds so-many-ticks-worth of enthusiasm to the relevant bar. Used mainly for actions that have a finite time to run the animation. Bonus applied / Absorption on / interests change. I've only seen 2 values used. 300 and 570, which correspond to 10 and 19 sim minutes using an object with a base rate of 100. 0x060F Enthusiasm - Start Normally called at the beginning of a 'long running activity'. ie. one which you would normally have to stop yourself by cancelling the action, or until the sim decided to stop itself to tend a pressing motive. Enthusiasm continues to increase until you finish the activity.
