It is heart warming to know that under that gruff mean exterior that JM has...is an even gruffer and meaner interior.

Happy Massacre Day JM.

Can I join yall? Honestly. Seriously. I think I may vomit if I have to look at one more bouquet.

I HATE V-DAY!

Point in case, and for all you people who say shit like this, dont do it:
I was in the elevator with some other people; delivery guy has a giant bouquet of long stem roses, for one of our admins. Anyway, the offender says "Oh somebody's getting some beautiful flowers, that's when you know your special".

What? As if! So if I don't get some stupid ass flowers I am not special? WTF?!

And another thing that pisses me off about this day, so many guys protest it, why I am not sure, some bullshit about it shouldn't be the only day to treat someone special or they don't need a holiday to do it yadda yadda whatever. What they don't seem to realize is that in their measure to protest in the name of some sovereign manly bullshit all they are doing is hurting the feelings of someone they claim they care about...why? And why does it hurt our (ok mine) feelings? See above, because we are not special enough to get some stupid ass flowers. I know it shouldn't matter anyway, but still, it pisses me off. And I don't know what I am going on about since I am single and always have been on this stupid frickin day!

I want to go back to bed now.

ARGH!

LOL nectere.  I totally agree.

I have had a boyfriend before on this "special" day, and it didn't make one damn bit of difference.  I really hate pretty much all holidays.  Except St. Patrick's Day.  And that's just an excuse to wear my absolutely ancient green Doc Marten's and get roaringly drunk on all drinks green.  ;D

St Patricks day is the coolest day ever- mostly because my uni has a 15 hour drinking marathon. I'll still be going to that when im 40!

And Renatus, can i have vodka in my coke, and chocolate too please? Im greedy.

Heres to an early St Patricks day! Woot!

Title: Re: Awww... shucks (newsbox)
Post by: Renatus on 2006 February 14, 16:15:14
Alas, I don't have vodka! It tastes like rubbing alcohol to me so I don't keep it in the house. Other alternatives are salmari (salmiakki liquor) and irish cream because I like froufrou girly drinks.

But definitely take some chocolate. It's Fazer chocolate, and therefore is awesome. They came out with a 70% cocoa bar that is so absolutely wonderful that I, who can sit down with a box of chocolates and have it cleaned out by the end of the day, only need three squares. Three squares. It's that good.

What do you use in place of the green olive in a chocolate martini?  Chocolate kiss wouldn't go with the "theme" very well.  Maybe one of those Rocher things?  I'm sure I brutalized the spelling, don't happen to have an empty wrapper to look at...

Heh. Makes me glad I'm a hermit and just don't care what day it is. I like being single - and if I want flowers or candy, well, I'll go buy them, then.  8) It sucks how there can be pressure to do or be something for certain days, though. Like you can slack off the rest of the time as long as you pony up for this one day. Bah, I say!  :P

V-Day is annoying if you're coupled, too.  Everyone is asking me what my plans for tonight are and then look at me all sympathetically when I say "Watch American Idol."  I don't need pity because my boyfriend works 12 hours a day.  It's the groups singing in Hollywood!  Even if he was home, I'd be in front of the television with a box of Tagalongs and a glass of milk.

Hey Brynne, if it makes you feel better...

If I promise to bring the Godiva liqueur, may I join...mmm white chocolate booze in hot cocoa...bring your own marshmellows.

I'll celebrate Valentine's Day when neither women nor men are brutalized by their partners. Until then, let's celebrate amity -- the love of friendship.

Happy VDay, everyone!

Well said, ElfPuddle!

For those who like that sort of thing (naked and male), I drew a pin-up of one of my (written) characters for V-Day. Linky button is in my signature or my profile if you have sigs turned off. It's slightly more tangible than e-chocolate and booze. :)

Come on people - I've never heard such griping!  Surely someone besides me has happy Valentines Day memories?  Just like Christmas, it's a commercial  money-making exercise, but even so, once in a while you can have a fantastic Valentines Day.  Dinner, alcohol, chocolate, great sex.  It's out there...and yes you can have that any day of the week, but the idea is just once a year, you can make a public fuss about it.

I know that when you are in a relationship, the pressure to do something for someone you're not really 'feeling' right now can make the Day seem like a long chore instead of fun.  The best Valentines I've had have been early on in relationships, when everything's still fresh and new.  The worst have been in longterm relationships where I could cheerfully have said - Just. Don't. - to any and everything, as in "No I don't want a poxy card"  "And don't call me because I'm working late."  and the classic "Is this the best you can do?"  I guess it's true what they say, familiarity does breed contempt! :)

Amen to that.  We should rename this holiday "indulge yourself day".  Tonight I am having some filet mignon with a loaded baked potato.  And I am making this : http://www.lcbo.com/lcbo-ear/RecipeController?action=recipe&language=1&recipeID=557&recipeType=1

meh, I am pretty much indifferent to it myself, I just don't like that it makes otherwise happy and well-loved people feel less so because someone neglected to buy them something on Feb. 14.

We do the present buying and overly-nice thing to each other if and when the mood strikes us regardless of occasion, having an official holiday tell us to do so makes us less inclined. If we do exchange gifts, there is a rule that it must be something we don't expect others to be getting,  usually something chore-related or downright gross, (but funny of course) whatever will be most shocking to the people who ask us what we got the next day.

I like to get chocolate, presents or flowers 'just because' not out of a feeling of obligation.

I just realised I've missed V-Day and I didn't even notice hehehe - it's 8am on 15th for me.

I did get a present this year although I didn't think about it at the time - my cat Theo brought in a dead grasshopper for me.  So you can keep your flowers, chockies 'n stuff 'cause my little boy protected my honour against a villainous insect and brought me the proof of its demise. ;D Happy belated Massacre Day.

Man oh man. All of you need to learn how to make a holiday work for you.  Don't depend on someone else to do it.  I had a great Valentine's Day.  Went shopping and bought clothes (for me). Had lunch with hubby and enjoyed steak and shrimp.  Dropped by a shoe store after lunch and bought shoes (for me). Told husband I had a great day. He didn't do anything in the way of gifts, etc. Took care of it myself. Just think of yourself on holidays. Works great.  Husband feels good too, he had a great lunch.

And for JM I would say this; I have been to the building in Chicago/Cicero where the Valentine's Day Massacre took place. Walls in the building are brick and the massive amounts of bullet holes in the wall impressed the hell out of me.  They call the place Tommy Gunn's. Fun place though, you would like it.

For shame, raining on JM's favorite day like that. That's why he prefers good old Al's re-invention of Valentine's Day. Nothing says love like a bouquet of hot lead with a spray of bullets. A real heart stopper.

V-Day? Meh... Never been too big on it. Probably because I've been single for a decade and a half (read: my whole life). I did finally get a present today, though (along with half the girls in my highschool xD). But I did have a good time choosing my clothes today. Most people were wearing red, I wore black. :)

I think you guys are over-reacting. The holiday is not such a big deal. I always feel that if you are not in a relationship, you are exempt- except from chocolates and teddybears. My mom sent me something, I am content.

Plus, I made a ton of money doing overtime work at a local florist. Why not support small businesses?

Argon, my sister had an experience with her dachsund a while back that was very bizarre and you reminded me of it.  We have no clue what happened, but apparently the little thing fell down the steps and hurt her back.  She lost all movement in her back legs.  My sis took her to the vet and the vet said it didn't look good, that she would never walk again.  Low and behold, she's getting around like a champ now!  It took a lot of rest--she had to stay in a pet carrier most of the time for weeks, but she's motorvating again!  So maybe your pet will be up and around soon, too. :)

I guess maybe this wouldn't be such a good time to say I had a great Valentine's Day!  I walked into my office around noon-thirty today and found a beautiful bouquet and card sitting in front of my monitor.  Nope--no guilt in my man or any need.  This is our twenty-second year of marriage.  He doesn't always remember Valentine's Day and such--just makes it all the nicer when he does remember! LOL

This is only about the second time in all our married life he's given me flowers.  We still laugh over the first time, because it was Valentine's Day about 4 or 5 years ago.  We live a ways out in the country so he bought them the day before and decided to keep them in his pick-up overnight.  The next morning they were totally frozen!  I just chuckled!  I let the petals dry, then crunched them up and put them in the next batch of melt and pour glycerin soap I made!

Ah, men.  They're such a weird species!

And for those who're having a lousy day, believe me when I say I've been there, done that.  I was 24 before I married, and only ever had one boyfriend before that on a Valentine's Day.  Mainly to me it's just another day, but it does give a good excuse for buying flowers and such. ;)

I love VD day!!  Well, actually, I love the days right after it.. discount chocolate!  Hubby is broke until payday (friday).. so he'll get me a present then.. some new Sims 1 games since most of mine have disappeared ... I think they are at his freiends' house but since it's only $20 for 3 of them.. he's ecstatic.  Yeah.. I'm easily amused and cheap to boot  ;D I've been missing playing Unleashed and Making Magic.

I already told him I want OFB as an early Mother's Day present.. concidering he's going to spend a couple grand on a new riding lawnmower and is looking at dune buggy chassises (sp)( he'll build his own from the chassis up) .. he loves buying me games.. they are relatively cheap, playing on the pc and consoles keeps me and the boys entertained and then I don't whine about him going out and hanging with his friends out at the shop (huge garage they built so they could weld and drink a lot of beer.)

I'm doing better today, I found this site: http://www.hopperhome.com/Disabled%20Rabbit.htm so I've decided that if my parents try to put him to sleep, it will be over my dead body since it doesn't have to end that way!
