1  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Game crashing while loading CAS on: 2010 May 25, 11:30:05
I've just installed the base game on my very slow old computer. The computer does meet system requirements, but it is an old computer (six years old) that's past it's best. The game loads perfectly and works okay until I open CAS. It then crashes on the loading screen as the fifth light goes on. Any ideas as to why and how to fix it? I've already tried reinstalling.
2  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Need help making a waiter/waitress on: 2010 January 14, 12:09:19
It's definitely not the base game. The outfits come with nightlife so that should be were to find them, but maybe EA have made a mistake (they're certainly experts in that area) and it's elsewhere?
3  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Anti Virus suggestions on: 2008 November 25, 11:26:02
I've used AVG which caused problems (crashing and blue screens every fifteen minutes), although the problems in question appear to be a fault with the laptop and AVG should be okay with a different (non-faulty) computer. However, by changing to windows liveonecare the problem disappeared.
4  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Transferring (or copying)wardrobes from family to family on: 2008 November 19, 22:38:14
To the best of my understanding, Lord Darcy's fix only allows freetime outfits to be buyable. It's the original base game outfits I'm wanting. I did previously have a self-made hack, but it stopped working after freetime.
5  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Transferring (or copying)wardrobes from family to family on: 2008 November 19, 18:22:53
I've used the christianlove clothing collector in the past without much success. It only adds the outfits sims are currently wearing. Numenor's hacked coat hook would work for most purposes but unfortunately some of my families have outfits I can no longer buy thanks to freetime and all newer eps.
6  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Transferring (or copying)wardrobes from family to family on: 2008 November 19, 17:29:49
If I have a family (say family A) and I want both family B and C to own the same wardrobe, is there any way to achieve this, sor example using simPE, that does not involve transferring family B and C to family A's lot? By wardrobe, I mean every outfit that family is entitled to wear, NOT just the outfits they are wearing. Many thanks.
7  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Damn hedges! I want a new hack! on: 2008 November 10, 11:13:04
And alternative hack (which has the bonus of being in existence already) is the magic shears hack from simslice. This cuts your hedges for you, presumeably including the more inaccessible ones.
8  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: I broke my pets' careers! on: 2008 November 07, 12:19:12
I had that problem myself recently and removing all hacks didn't help. However, reinstalling apartment life did fix the problem- until I reinstalled the patch, so I assume the patch is the problem.
9  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Changing how a sim died without resurrecting them first on: 2008 October 30, 15:57:36
How can you change the type of ghost a sim has (drowned, disease, etc) without having to resurrect them and kill them again? I know you can change this using boolprop, but that doesn't have any options introduced by eps (eg. cowplant, murphy bed). More specifically, I want to make a sim die of old age then change the sim's death type, while keeping the platinum aspiration gracestone/urn.
10  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Unlocked Pet Collars on: 2008 October 20, 09:10:50
If I wanted to transfer my unlocked pet collars and fur colours from one computer to another, which file would I need to copy to avoid the long process of typing out every code? Am I correct in assuming that this can be done?
11  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Small glitches with simss, possibly caused by apartment life? on: 2008 October 18, 21:36:53
This isn't a problem I've caused by breaking something, as none of my hacks make a difference: it's more things I've noticed not working right anyway, small glitches if you will. This thread is also a moan about EAxis's uselessness. Anyway, here they are:

1). Ghosts appearing during the day. Apparently (according to the sims 2 prima guide) this does not happen. I think this has been happening since the base game, but I wouldn't swear it has.
2). In one lot only, when the stereo from glamour life is on, it flashes not only where it's meant to, but pink flashes also appear randomly around the lot, generally on the floor above the stereo, immediately above it, but also occasionally outside.
3). My witch sim can cast spells on ghosts.

Are these normal, or not and is anyone awesome enough to fix them (plus any other minor faults others have noticed)? Alternatively, some advice on fixing them would be helpful, and I could maybe try sorting them myself (though I'm not hopeful, seeing as my modding skills are very non-awesome).
12  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Weird computer problems on: 2008 October 16, 21:28:32
Thanks Jesslla, I'm now searching for help with hecking the hardware. I know the hard drive is dubious: there's problems with an older computer in the house with the same make of hard drive, but this one's been recently  (nearly a year ago, actually) checked by an IT person while trying to fix a completely different problem, so hopefully it's okay. The memory's okay. Sadly, if something fails, the laptop's doomed. There's not much replaceable parts worth replacing: better value is to replace the whole laptop: something I can't afford.

As for securom, I don't trust my computer skills to do it properly without wrecking something else: all my computer knowledge is self-taught, unless you count ECDL, (which I tend not to: it's not worth much) and an IT course I did years ago (even worse, it just taught me to touch type).

Thanks everyone for your help and advice: it's greatly appreciated.

Too much effort. (Yes, I know, I suffer from terminal laziness).
14  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Weird computer problems on: 2008 October 15, 19:23:33
Interestingly, by changing virus software (again) I can avoid the suckROM problems without removing suckROM from sims 2. However everything's hopefully working perfectly now. *crosses fingers*
15  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Norton and CD problems on: 2008 October 15, 12:58:02
I've have no problems running a secuROM infested version of sims until today, when I changed my virus software to norton. Now, my computer accepts the apartment life CD is in the drive, but sims 2 refuses to run as the CD isn't in the drive (it says). Could norton be the cause of this somehow, as I could previously run sims 2 apartment life without problems, and has anyone any advice. If this is related to secuROM, please don't spork me too much as I do try my best. It just so happens my best isn't always good enough.
16  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: AL: i broke my closets...and i dont know how. on: 2008 October 15, 10:00:39
You should be able to get all of the closet options by clicking on the mirror. At any rate, that's what my (almost hack-free) game does, and it's no hacks that could interfere with the wardrobe (I've only got a few of Lord Darcy's hacks).
17  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Weird computer problems on: 2008 October 14, 23:44:16
Interesting. Another, probably related problem occurred. The computer  refused to work properly. Before the log on screen, a notice appeared informing me that an application can crashed. Seeing as the application was called avg(insert three random letters here), I assume the problem is caused by AVG. Having uninstalled AVG since, I still have 17 files relating to avg on the laptop. The locations of said files are in the folders:

C:/WINDOWS/prefetch
C:/WINDOWS/temp
C:/WINDOWS/pchealth/ERRORREP/UserDumps

Can I delete any of the files/is AVG properly uninstalled/if not, what do I do now?

EDIT: okay, having installed a different virus software, I spent two hours playing solitaire, listening to itunes and during this time ran a virus check. The blue screen then reappeared. WTF? Please someone more awesome than me explain?
18  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Weird computer problems on: 2008 October 14, 20:08:48
How do I do that?
19  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Re: Weird computer problems on: 2008 October 14, 17:40:29
I have 1Gb of memory, half of which cam with the laptop. I'm reluctant  to buy more though, as to upgrade further, I'd have to discard one of current memory cards and replace it. (Thus having to buy more memory than necessary)
20  TS2: Burnination / Oops! You Broke It! / Weird computer problems on: 2008 October 14, 17:19:57
Every few days (about once every week, perhaps) my laptop starts showing blue screens saying physical memory dump is starting. After a couple of seconds, the computer restarts. This occurs more and more frequently over the next 48 hours, until eventually the screen beeps, freezes and a blue screen with illegible white lines appears. The computer then re-freezes.

To fix the problem, I tend to run an error-check, which doesn't fix the problem, uninstall AVG 8.0, which doesn't work and then defrag, which does fix the problem.

Any suggestions as to the real cause of the problem? This has been happening for about two months.

It also occurred a few times a year ago, and when sent to IT services, they said there wasn't a problem. Since then, the laptop got windows xp reinstalled due to an unrelated problem, and two months later, this started (about the same time, the original virus software ran out of date and was removed (properly) by me.

Any help greatly appreciated as I can't afford the £30 handover fee for professional support. Nor do I wish to get professional support: it tends not to be much use.
21  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: EAxis annoy me (modular stairs in Veronaville house) on: 2008 October 10, 11:02:38
Thanks everyone, particularly karthikthepro, the stuckobjectremover works.
22  TS2: Burnination / Peasantry / Re: Testers wanted: WTF Snow shouldn't be on that! on: 2008 October 09, 21:08:24
Do you think you could stop the thinking cap from having snow on it when a sim's wearing it? It's been annoying me quite a lot recently.
23  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: EAxis annoy me (modular stairs in Veronaville house) on: 2008 October 09, 18:36:53
Pandaah: that method works, but you can't put in the wall afterwards whereas with the house EAxis made, the wall is there, and if removed, can be replaced.
24  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: EAxis annoy me (modular stairs in Veronaville house) on: 2008 October 09, 16:38:51
I've got the picture taken okay, it's showing it my message that I don't know how to do.
25  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / EAxis annoy me (modular stairs in Veronaville house) on: 2008 October 09, 16:32:04
In one of the houses in Veronaville (I forget which one), the fourth square above the stairs can be used and carpeted.
How on earth did EAxis do this, seeing as I can't replicate this elsewhere myself?

(Thanks Jelenedra).
