Title: Quick question about updating
Post by: tristedone on 2010 May 05, 20:33:47
Obviously, I'm new to using AM, so I was just notified that the version I have is expiring within a couple days. I just want to make sure to avoid any game crashing mistakes that I'm updating correctly.

Are there any particular files I need to delete first or do I just click the zip file in Pescado's post to redownload?

I know, I know. I'm a newbie. I promise I spent a good chunk of time checking the manual, searching the forums, and even googling to answer my own question prior to registering.. But couldn't find a clear enough answer to sooth my compulsion to double check things.

Thanks for your time!

When you copy the new file into the folder it should ask you if you want to over-write the old file; say yes, or delete the old Awesome before you add the new one.  It's up to you.

So just the awesome.package file needs to be changed/deleted/etc?

Easy enough! Just making sure there wasn't some file in the depths of my game that has to get cleared out.

Thanks!

I do delete "scriptCache.package" in G:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\snabul\Eigene Dateien\Electronic Arts\Die Sims 3.
In your case the path will be different, but I do not know the english terms.
Maybe you even do not need to delete that file...

G:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\snabul\Eigene Dateien\Electronic Arts\Die Sims 3

=

C:\Documents and Settings\*account name*\My Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3

It's not required to delete scriptcache, but I always do after an update, too.

It's easier to understand something if it is explained in full, guys, keep that in mind. :D

Scriptcache, basically, is where the game stores "information" that it recalls a lot. Stuff like story progression and other junk, I'd imagine. Awesomemod has lots of that stuff. So if you install a new one without deleting the cache, the game might, for all you know, still be using some of the cached information instead of the new stuff.

Deleting it forces the game to generate a new one and forces it to use all the new information, ensuring nothing old is used. There's no absolute need to do it, but it won't hurt anything either.

Scriptcache, basically, is where the game stores "information" that it recalls a lot.
Don't forget that if you are running Riverview or a custom world that this information seems to be cached in the World Caches folder.

First, try redownloading and make sure the new version overwrites the old. Also, check that your config file is current if you don't use the defaults.

Thank you very much, I did have an old config file. Maybe that was it. I'll redownload awesome mod without the config and see what happens.

EDIT; It still says it's expired :(

For Fuck sake, clear your browser cache first.  Then search your system to make sure you have actually removed the old version.  The current download expires late June for memory.

Clear browser cache, and make sure the clock and calender on your computer itself is correct.

Done all that too, and it still says it's expired. :(

You're doing it wrong.

No thanks to those of you that claimed you knew everything, I fixed the problem. I don't recall anyone mentioning that I had to delete the .package files?
Thanks J. M. Pescado for a great modification. It's just a shame that you've got such a pathetic group of people that claim to 'help' people on this forum. You've lost so much respect because of the horrible people on your forum.
Say a 12 year old girl buys the Sims 3, and wants to download awesome mod. However, the instructions confuse her slightly, or something in awesome mod has caused a problem in her game. She needs help. She posts, hoping to find the answer to her problem. But no... what she does get, is a group of sad people telling her how stupid she is.. and why? Because they have nothing better to do. I mean, come on. 18 year olds, telling little 12 year old girls that they're retards and to gtfo of their forum?
Saaaaad.

But thanks to the very few amount of members that didn't insult me, and actually tried to help. You've gained my respect, and a lot of other people's respect. The rest of you... seriously, you might want to think about getting a life. Just my thoughts. Just a twelve year old girls thoughts.

What's sad is your utter inability to read and your complete retardedness. CRY MOAR, EMO BABY.

AM as well as MATY are age-restricted at 18, you moran. 12s have no place here, nor should they be using AM. Also, I love how treatment of you translates to changes in so many "other people's" opinions. WTH, the people in your head? Marco, is that you?

I remember being 12 on the internet.  I was petrified with fear at the thought of posting anything.  Instead, I searched and searched until I found my answer or I figured it out for myself.  Too bad if I can't feel any sympathy for you, but these days, the internet is too kid friendly and there's no reason why places geared towards ADULTS should change their ways to suit your needs.  Next time, think twice before posting.  Not all places on the internet are accepting of kids.

Edit: One more thing: Pescado has gained more respect from saving GOS's ass over the weekend than he lost from allowing his forum to patronize you.  For the record, since you're obviously a n00b, he also liberated Insim from Walt and runs PMBD aka the booty (http://paysites.mustbedestroyed.org/), just to name a few things.  Your feelings, compared to everything else, are trivial.  But like a typical 12, you think the world revolves around you, so I'm not surprised.

Wait, what? You were updating...without removing the older ones? How in the world did you do that?

Dragon has a point.
High time the adults took back control!  Power to the elders!

I don't allow my 12's on the internet without me sitting right there looking out for them; protecting them from predators and their own stupidity!

So these weren't big enough clues? I don't know if it's possible to dumb that down any more without speaking in Tard.

Clearly, the intarwebz are the work of the devil. First they're teaching you to be rude to strangers and then they torture you with oblivious people who expect you to be nice. Twisted.

I don't allow my 12's on the internet without me sitting right there looking out for them;
You're observing your 12s while they're looking for porn? Weird.

Wow, I'm siding with the 12 on this. You guys blather on about being adult, but I don't see it from the content of most of your posts. For every post giving a constructive answer there are four calling you names. How is that adult? You are how you act, and the majority act like trolls. I know there are nice people out there, its just that they don't post much either, why bother? Nobody WANTS to be shit on by nameless, faceless fucktards, but what are ya gonna do? I suggest private messages.

Alright kiddies, flame away. I hope you feel better about yourselves afterward lol.

I suggest you STFU, GTFO and DIAF. If you can't take the heat, get out of the motherfucking kitchen. THIS IS THE KITCHEN.

Go somewhere else.  Seriously, fuck off to another site where you can frolic with the rainbow unicorns, and no one is MEEN.  I hear MTS is really lovely in the evenings, when everyone gathers around the fire to sing "Kumbaya" and lick each other to death like a basket of puppies.
