26  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Custom Careers? on: 2005 November 22, 18:44:22
what Veilchen said.

I have ~100 new careers in my game (about 20-30 are teen careers), and they all work without conflicts. Some don't have updated chance-cards, but with those, I just edited them myself to deactivate chancecards altogether. I really love the variety, especially since there are careers for Pastors, Vampire Hunters, and some Adult careers. I've also seen some based on XFiles or or Buffy or Harry Potter, and some Medieval ones, which are great for themed neighborhoods.

Just make sure to check whether they're Uni/NL compatible, and keep them all in a seperate folder so you can easily delete any that you suspect of causing trouble.

Is the file in question DylanTK_DefaultVampirePaste (filesize 1,6MB)? Because if so, I have that on my HD and cound put it on my site temporarily until you find some other place to host it, or email it out to people who request it.

I cannot figure out how to do anything with my sims in SimPe.  The most I can do with it is recolor stuff.  I really need to read a tutorial.  Is it hard to change their genetics?

No, that part is really easy. Here's a tutorial specifically for making SimSurgery changes genetic: http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=56241

I have pictures of my the made-over Townies and NPCs from my old neighborhood (they're the standard ones from Pleasantview/all custom neighborhoods), if you want to see possibly results: http://www.livejournal.com/community/thesims2/1029185.html

oh, thanks - I'll have to experiment with that!
30  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Changing eye color, is this possible? on: 2005 November 21, 20:20:29
Importing via SimPE causes major graphical corruption.

It does? I *have* edited default replacement eyes with this method before, and they all work perfectly. Tho' I have an ATI card...
31  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Where have all the breedable NPC's gone? on: 2005 November 21, 20:18:25
You can create just NPCs, by clicking on the mailbox in debug mode. That should create 3 of each.

I've started just making all NPCs and Townies over with the SimSurgery machine: I have one on each lot, and I also have Merola's Mindcontrolling Mirror, a normal mirror, and a Max-Aspiration painting (as well as TwoJeff's mod that makes the SimSurgery machine only fail if the aspiration is in green), so everytime a sim walks by that hasn't been been beautified yet, I snag him or her and they get a new face, and then a new custom hairstyle.

Whenever I exit the game, I seach all edited NPCs/Townies/Downtownies and make the change genetic with SimPE.

32  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Changing eye color, is this possible? on: 2005 November 21, 17:00:37
instead of renaming them, wouldn't it be easier to find the eye file (use the Sims2Pack scanner to find them, put them in a seperate folder, and then *copy* only that into the downloads. Start the game, delete all custom eyes that you are not using. Then, open the remaining ones in SimPE, and import a new eyecolor over the old one. Save, and put those edited files back into your normal downloads, overwriting the old ones. Thus, the game would find new graphics in the files it's using now. That should affect all current sims that have them, and all their offspring.

You can get new graphics by simply opening up the eyes you want to use in SimPE and exporting those graphics.

That being said, I've never done that myself. So I don't know if it really works.
33  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Marriage jump bug?, also, Captain Hero carpool errors on: 2005 November 21, 11:32:59
*YES*. This one worked.

I'd smooch you, but that'd probably be not so good for my health. *g*

I'll keep using this for now, and if my game ever goes *boom*, I'll re-create everything then. A few months down the road I'll probably not mind going through the whole SimSurgery-and-then-import thing again.

*bounces happily*
34  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Alternate reality neighborhood on: 2005 November 21, 10:59:11
I love Nervous as well.

Sadly, by the time I noticed that Nervous was interested in Pascal, Pascal had paired off with someone else's alien girl that the brothers had raised (thank you, teenwoohoo). So Pascal rejected Nervous, very gently. But Nervous still went nuts, and set fire to his home while Circe and Loki were in it. Then Tank Grunt took him in, and they fell in love. They adopted a girl, and I've been slowly giving him Nice points whenever he does something nice to Tank or the girl.

The other 2 Curious brothers had 3 alien kids (Laszlo has twins), and are living with the Singles girls, all of them in custom Jouralist, Photography and Alien Conspiracy careers, except Chloe, who's a fetish model. Since they, along with all other Maxis characters that I play, "moved" (ie, were re-created) to my Custom Neighborhood, everyone of my CAS sims thinks that they're two brothers who're married to two sisters. However, their bedrooms tell a different story...

then may I ask how you got the flat-ish roof? I can build the rest of easily since you have pictures of the floorplan, but I have no idea how to get roofs like that. Which is why I'm so interested in the house...
36  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Marriage jump bug?, also, Captain Hero carpool errors on: 2005 November 21, 10:18:02
Neither happened - instead, the error is still there, just as before putting the file in. *sigh*

I'm attaching another error log, this time with the fix installed.

Oh - in the \logs directory, there's also a file named OETreeDelete.xls, which gets updated whenever a new error log gets created. Let me know if you need that one as well.
37  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Marriage jump bug?, also, Captain Hero carpool errors on: 2005 November 20, 22:29:33
There's 442 files in the \Characters folder.

39  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Marriage jump bug?, also, Captain Hero carpool errors on: 2005 November 20, 21:20:52
ok, I tracked down the sim in question. She can't have a left-over memory - she was recreated in CAS. She did have a weird age: days left in age were somewhere over 65000.

I went through her memories, but they all look legit. Still, I first tried to delete all invisible ones, and then, when that didn't help, I deleted all her memories.

Neither helped - the same error is still occurring.

At this point, I'm contemplating exporting everyone with SimSurgery again and restarting over. Are you sure the marriage error is linked to a memory problem? I'm willing to go through the hassle of re-creating everything if I'm pretty sure it'll fix whatever is wrong, but I don't want to spend all that time just to have the error show up again later (I had it in my old game, it was one of the reasons I did a fresh install for NL).
40  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Marriage jump bug?, also, Captain Hero carpool errors on: 2005 November 20, 14:51:02
Ok, here you go. He is a Uni graduate, she isn't. Both were created in CAS as teens, had their personality adjusted in SimPE to what they were born as before I recreated them. But I did personality adjustments for all the families I recreated, and as I said, some of them marry without a problem. Didn't use any other hacks on them. I had moved her into his household with Inge's teleport shurb.

I put both sims on a new and completely empty lot (except for the mailbox and trashcan). Didn't let them interact at all before I started the tests. I exited without saving inbetween.

1. I had him propose to her. Same error as in screenshot I posted. No memory, they keep the engagement rings, it's as if nothing has happened.

2. I had her propose to him (never tried that before, I wanted her to have his last name). Again, the game tells me that the error is with *her*. Again, no memory and they keep the engagement rings, but this time, their relationship statues changes to 'Married'. No change of last names, tho.

Then I first bought them a wedding arc and tried with that.

3. He proposed with arc. They stood around a bit, then went though the animations you get before the ring-exchange, but I'm petty sure they were out of sync with each other. Then they jumped, with him ending up under the middle of the arc, and her standing in front of the left side of the arc. After a few seconds, both got the spinning rings over their head, *and* got a memory. However, they kept their last names, and their relationship panel didn't update, and the arc remained clickable for them both. They also only wore engagement rings.

4. She proposed with arc. Same as above, but the animation seemed to get a bit farther, although still not to the part where they exchange rings. I did hear the sound of kissing, tho, and got maybe half a second of falling petals.

*kicks game*
41  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Marriage jump bug?, also, Captain Hero carpool errors on: 2005 November 20, 01:31:10
THis could be the mystery event resolved either by Crammyboy's "Clothing Event Fixer" or the Hygiene Bug Fix, possibly induced by Captain Hero trying to change to his uniform.

Ok, having both of these in game seems to have fixed the Captain Hero carpool (I hadn't gone back to the lot where I have the Cpt.Hero since installing these).

However, all attempts at marriage still make some sim-pairings jump. While I tested the carpool right now, I also moved one of the affected couples out and into a new lot, but the jump out of the interaction still occurs. It looks like it's the sim that initiates the get-married interaction who jumps out of it first.

I can't find anything that the couples that can't get married have in common. Graduating uni doesn't make a difference, as far as I can tell: of two couples where one partner is a uni graduate and the other is not, one could get married, but the other couldn't.
42  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Marriage jump bug?, also, Captain Hero carpool errors on: 2005 November 19, 19:44:22
It's not that (s)he can't get them to go to work after cancelling the action it's that the action never pops up and (s)he gets an error message.

*nod*

I've even tried that fix, but it didn't change anything.

43  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Marriage jump bug?, also, Captain Hero carpool errors on: 2005 November 19, 17:55:11
I just noticed that I (again) can't get sims to marry - they'll jump out of the interaction.

This is a newly-installed game, with a recreated neighborhood. I extracted all families with the SimSurgery plug-in in SimPE and recreated them in a new neighborhood. The only fiddling around I've done is to recreate sibling and/or parent-child relationships across different lots.

I first thought I had some conflicting hacks (I have most of what is available here and from SimLogical, and a small selection from MTS2, as well as the newest version of the InSimenator). But then I found out that I only have the marriage error in some families - in others, I have no problem getting sims married. It makes no difference whether I have them Propose-Marriage or use the arc, also, throwing a party or not doesn't seem to make a difference. If I do it via the arc, they go through half the interaction, but when they get to the point where they'd start to exchange rings, everyone on the lot that's attending the wedding jumps out of their sitting positions and resets to stand next to their chairs, and the couple just stops, stands there, and eventually wanders off.

So I turned debug mode on to create an error log, and got this message:

I'm also attaching the error log.

My current generation has just finished uni, or just reached adulthood for those that didn't get to go, and now they're starting to pair off, and it's quite a hassle to throw a wedding party and then have them jump out of the interaction.

Also when I turned debug mode on, I also realized that I do have an error with the Captain Hero carpool. I had noticed that the sim in question never got the "go to work" icon, and I had to send him there manually with the car, otherwise he'd just miss work. It's something I can live with, but I'm curious why the problem exists: all other carpools works fine, as do neighbor walk-bys, etc. I manually set someone on another lot to Captain Hero, and they also didn't get a carpool, so it doesn't seem to be related to the lot. I'm also attaching an error log of this, in case someone wants to take a look at it.

44  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Who's getting the x-mas pack? on: 2005 November 13, 18:10:10
The only thing that would interest me would be new animations or new interactions.

The fireworks are semi-interesting, but I can live without them.
45  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Who Are They? (A Guessing Game!) on: 2005 November 13, 18:05:41
the girl in the middle looks like Brandi, and the boy on the right is probably Don. I'm not sure about the guy on the left - doesn't Mortimer turn into a blond when you age-regress him, tho?

(the picture isn't very good, tho, which makes it difficult to make out facial features)

Edited because there's a difference between left and right
46  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Sim wants to fall in love with her husband's alien son on: 2005 November 09, 09:31:07
And how did the kids turn out?  Shocked

I don't remember (or rather, I was probably never mentioned), but I don't think they had any serious problems. Inbreeding only gets problematic if you keep doing it over and over, so unless their kids keep up the practice, the family line should be safe.

47  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: Sim wants to fall in love with her husband's alien son on: 2005 November 09, 09:16:34
Oddest case I remember reading about was a man who had a son, and they lived in the south of Italy somewhere.  The son moved up North (i don't know why) and met his half-sister ( it seems Dad had had a brief affair) fell in love and the bride and groom were virtually at the alter  steps when dad arrived to put a stop to the wedding!

I remember about 10 or 15 years ago, there was a case in I think Spain where a brother and sister who'd both been adopted out and had never known each other ended up married and with children. When they found out, they decided to stay as a married couple - after all, they had the kids already, and saw no point in breaking up.

why don't you write the entry as a post to your LJ (or even a specifically created LJ)? That way, all pics load at once, and your readers can just scroll down.

(and you can post the link at the thesims2 community...)
49  TS2: Burnination / The Podium / Re: How much is too much on: 2005 October 31, 19:12:13
Hmmm...

Bodyshop stuff: 9.600 objects, 4,81 GB
Objects and Recolors: 10.000 objects, 2,8 GB
And Hacks, Careers and Walls/Floors, but they take up nearly nothing in comparison.

Mind you, this is after reinstalling prior to NL, where I drastically weeded out objects.

Granted, the game lags when I start it up (~15 mins), and it takes ~4 mins when I load the first family, but all other families after that load quickly. And since I always have Firefox running the background, I just surf around a bit while the game loads. From what I've noticed, it seems it's the new meshed stuff that ups the load time: before new meshes came out, I had tons of Bodyshop objects and recolors, and hardly had any additional loadtime.

After reinstalling, nearly all of the objects I kept are new meshes, and I also have a lot of hairmeshes. I've thought about going back to mostly only recolors for objects, but I don't want to go back to the boring Maxis stuff. I mind the load-time less than I mind having all houses look alike.

I have mostly stopped downloading, tho. I have enough furniture for all the houses I play (and I am working on making my neighborhood smaller, so I'm unlikely to need more). I do still download some newly meshed stuffed, but it's mostly new decorative objects, just things to make the lots more lived-in and realistic. With Bodyshop, I only get new clothes if they're either ethnic stuff, Victorian/old-fashioned stuff, or new hair.

I could probably weed out the Bodyshop stuff, but it's so *tedious* and takes forever.

Have you tried going into Beau's lot and moving Penelope in with the Simlogical Teleporter Plus?
